HBO receives 22 Golden Globe noms

The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles. HBO received the most nominations of any network, 22 to be exact. The shows that received noms were In Treatment, Recount, John Adams, Bernard and Doris, Entourage and True Blood. Below is a snippet from the official HBO press release.

HBO received 22 Golden Globe nominations, the most of any television network this year, for the upcoming 66th annual Golden Globe Awards, which were announced today in Los Angeles. In Treatment and Recount led all HBO programming and tied for the lead among all TV programming with 5 nominations apiece. The Golden Globe Awards will be presented Jan. 11 in Los Angeles.

Winter Is Coming: So what does this mean for Game of Thrones? Possibly nothing. But it is good to see that HBO continues to lead the way in terms of quality television programming. Premium networks such as HBO need awards and recognition, more so than broadcast and cable nets, as it helps build buzz which in turn adds subscribers. Especially encouraging is to see True Blood garnering some critical acclaim. A genre project based on a book series? That sounds familiar.

The Wire never got any Golden Globe nominations even though it is the best series ever made.

So yeah, I dont really care about Golden Globes.
A big joke as Demerson said.

I agree with Winter is Coming that this is either neutral or good news. Big studios don’t tend to like putting money into scifi/fantasy fiction projects. They’re not classy or prestigious or something. And they rarely get acclaim for anything other than special effects, even if the acting was far superior to anything else offered that season.

True Blood getting notice could encourage the executives to be more open about investing in fantasy pieces. Which would be great for Game of Thrones.

And, to be honest, I think it would be wise of them to do so. True Blood is part of the lastest big thing, but if they want to be bleeding edge, Game of Thrones exemplifies the next big trend.
