Rome: The Movie?

There is talk that a movie may be in the works for Rome. James Hibberd from The Hollywood Reporter writes on his blog:

Bruno Heller says he wants to produce a theatrical wrap-up to his critically beloved and prematurely canceled HBO drama “Rome.”

“There is talk of doing a movie version,” he said. “It’s moving along. It’s not there until it is there. I would love to round that show off.”

Winter Is Coming: To fans of the show, this is great news. I’ve never seen it, though I have heard good things. I post this here though, because I was intrigued by this comment in the article:

HBO executives have since admitted that axing the show probably was a mistake.

Might HBO wish to fill the void left by Rome, a project they now wish they would have kept, with Game of Thrones?

Rome was a FANTASTIC show filled with top notch actors. I’d slap my $10 down to see a big screen wrap up in a heartbeat.

I think HBO’s future is going to be in these super budget spectacles. The Pacific ($200 MILLION for 10 episodes), Boardwalk which wont come cheap, and now Game of Thrones which won’t come cheap.

38 million subscribers paying around $15 bucks a month. You do the math. GOT is a drop in the bucket.
