It seems that the extras agency that supplied the extras for the Game of Thrones pilot (and will likely do the same for the full series) is counting on a series pickup. Rimshot, who was an extra in the pilot, recently re-registered with the agency and said the questions they asked on this year’s registration form were quite different from years past.
I’ve re-registered for Extras NI for another year. I noticed the application form is slightly different this year. Normally it asks various general questions about your experiences (acting/sports/hobbies) and they use this to group people into skill sets in case a film needs a certain type. This year however there were more questions about horse-riding; combat training & experience in historical re-enactments etc. It seems that they are getting ready for potentially lots of work on GOT!
Winter Is Coming: Just another sign pointing to a series pick up. It does make me wonder though if HBO has already informed certain folks that the series is going to get picked up but they are just waiting to make the official announcement. Probably not. Probably just Extras NI doing the same thing we are all doing and assuming, based on what they’ve heard, that the show will be picked up and wanting to be prepared. Either way, this is a good sign.

I’m seriously considering subscribing with them. But I live in Belgium, would they take foreign extras? (I doubt it) I’d not mind doing the travel for a week or two if I could just have a chance to be part of this.

Just a thought, but GRRM has posted more updates about Dance in the last three weeks then he has in a year. Is he trying to finish the book by end of Feb early March so he can focus on being around and assisting in the shoot (when GOT s picked up) and writing the one screenplay he said he'll contribute? I think so, either way I think positive things are occurring with GOT series and Dance.

Another reason GRRM might be doing more work/posting on ADWD is the American football season for his favorite teams (NY Jets and NY Giants) has been over for several weeks now. And with the Super Bowl now done as well, GRRM has lots of extra time on Sundays. :)

It is possible the extras agency got some inside word on this from someone at HBO or the producers. It might not have been confirmation, but it might have been along the lines of, "it really looks like it's going to happen, so start getting your ducks in a row for more casting to come soon." Either that or they are just being extra diligent so they don't drop the ball should it happen. It's pretty clear this will be rather a windfall for them should it happen, so it pays to invest a little extra time and effort on it up front to make it work.

I'm betting on them simply being prepared should the series get a pick up. They've probably seen as much positive feedback in the news as we have here, and it won't harm them to be prepared with a folio of people who know how to ride, do archery, perform swordfighting or other forms of melee combat (Robert was known for using a mace, wasn't he?), etc.

Just signed up with the Belfast extras agency yesterday, had to admit I last sat on a horse ages ago and don't own one ;) They do ask about historical re-enactment, combat and horse riding, but also about loads of other stuff, so I guess they are just covering all bases. Hope my LARP experience and court dance classes will be enough to get me in as a lady in waiting somewhere!
