So I was poking around on Flickr a bit today, looking at pictures of some of the new locations. On a whim I decided to look up photos of Doune Castle, just in case someone may have snapped a set pic back in Oct and waited until recently to upload it. Well, lo and behold, someone had. Check it out.
Winter Is Coming: Pretty nice find, huh? I only wish the photographer would have snapped the photo a few seconds prior so we could have got a full shot of the guy on the left. But from what I can see, the costume looks very impressive. Much better than that first leaked costume photo. I’m trying to figure out who that guy is supposed to be. Could those by maester’s robes?

Looks like Hagrid.

The basket weave on the sleeve seems a little fancy for a maester. Don't know if it means the same thing in Westeros as it does here but the mytery man on the left is wearing a wedding ring.

Nice found!
The coustume is impressive, I wonder whose costume it is?
An extra as a servant, as a guard, or maybe a night-watch member?
@The_Rabbit01Quote Reply
A black brother, maybe???
KelfkaQuote Reply
I see now, that we are wondering about the same thing.
Maester? Hmmm . maybe?
Musician – one of the Corvus Corax?
@The_Rabbit01Quote Reply
It's neither a Maester or a Musician, I'd have to say. I visited the set and saw extras in costume… I was extremely impressed with how many of them had beautiful costumes but no lines or name. My best guess is that this person is playing an un-named nobleman during the feast.

Also, I know it's pure speculation but I wonder if that's me behind that glass window on the second floor. I had a bit of a stake-out there when I visited :P
CrakehallQuote Reply
I would not be so sure for that, because Wills cloack form the still is more fancy than I dared to imagine nightwatchs poachers cloack would be.
I like it, of course.

Did you try to contact the person who posted the picture? Perhapd they would be interested in giving us a short account, or more info on the half-man on the left. And perhaps they didn't even know what was happening there when they visited and would be happy to learn about GoT…

oups! I forgot! Nice find, BTW

There's 3 photos of the same set on "Fans of George R.R. Martin's 'Game of Thrones' HBO TV Series" on Facebook (though not this exact photo)
From the same photographer?

It must be just one.
I have posted it on the wall – at that side some half hour ago.

I see now, these are the old photos, posted in October.
They are in the photos – section.

Nice catch, Winter!
You guys had better find more set photos or we'd better get more official stills, or else I'm going to start getting the DT's over here…

I think there are more people in coustumes in the backround.
But I can not see it clearly.

What about Benjen? He might wear something more fancy then the usual watch uniform when he visit Winterfell…

Now this is interesting news. My impression was that Weiss and Benioff were going to write all of the episodes apart from the one which would be written by GRRM himself. I thought at the time this was mentioned this was highly unusual, but given the enormous lead-time (almost three years since HBO optioned the series) it seemed doable.

Yes…as a wandering minstrel in disguise. He mentioned having sat at the low tables with the lesser folk who followed the caravan. I got the impression he styled himself in modest clothing, so as to not draw attention.
Stella MarisQuote Reply
Could be him.
At least, I am pretty sure it is male figure.
@The_Rabbit01Quote Reply
A reader by the name of Melise sent me this image she created to help get a sense of what the costume might look like in full view.
Winter Is ComingQuote Reply
lol you guys are too good, First i was going to point out the figure in the third story window, but Crakehall not only saw it, but may be the person behind the glass. Then, I was going to suggest Mance (though tongue-in-cheek since I doubt they would include a role not seen for another two years) but Burke beat me to it. I would like to add though the ring on the mystery man's finger definately looks more ornamental and less marriage to me.

Was originally thinking Maester, but it could be any number of other characters as others pointed out. Looks like a rich costume, though. I like it.

That is a little surprise, if Mr. Goldstrom has a right information.

Pretty cool photo!
For me, the guy on the left could be Maester Luwin, but the robe is too …dark. Could he be Benjen Stark?
Laura Marchante García-BaqueroQuote Reply
I love the photo mainly because the photographer utterly tried to ignore the unusually dressed person and probably was cursing them for getting their arm in their lovely castle shot.
Joss AttridgeQuote Reply
Actually I'm 90% sure it's King Robert (Mark Addy). I remember him being in rich black robes.
Crakehall, I have to laugh because I was wondering if that was me at the window! ;) I'm sure it's the same day we were there. I think it might have been just after you left because the main hall emptied and King Robert and Jon (Kit – though I didn't recognise him at the time) stood under the window with the extras etc for a while. Then Ned (Sean B) and the Starks and the Lannister brothers ( Peter and Nikolaj) arrived and waited at the lodge. I think this is Robert heading to the lodge (behind the photographer).
The people up at the main gate were servants etc in the main hall.
For those wanting orientation the lodge is to the left of the image of George arriving at the castle. Think the image was posted here a while back (I have one too but I think it was Crakehall's that was out and about).

I'm going to feel pretty bad if it's not! It was a wee while ago and quite an overwhelming day ;) All I can say is Mark Addy was in black.
Oh and on reflection I'm pretty certain I'm actually sitting in the bottom corner of the window, not standing. Standing is either Crackhall or one of the 2 old ladies that came to stalk Sean Bean ;)
@JacMac30Quote Reply
Very cool if it's true :)
Oh, we are going to be so overwhelmed when full sets of photos are released – we won't have enough time and space to analyse every little detail as we do now. Reconstructing full robes, etc … the fan community is simply awesome.
Hear Me RoarQuote Reply
I made this image while trying to figure out if it was Mark Addys hand.
http://angryhosting-east.mirror.waffleimages.com/…
The image seems to match Marks knuckley hands..
DanielQuote Reply
A little disturbing that you took the time to make that. I like it!____And the hands do look similar. Between this and Jacs thoughts, i guess we have our King here.
sjweningsQuote Reply
It might actually be Maester Luwin. Those robes look black with the light source to the wearer's back, but on film they could easily go gray. And there's just too much detail for them to be Random Backdrop Dude. If we had maybe an inch more of him we'd know, because then we could see his chain, but I think I remember somewhere that Maester Luwin had a fur collar to go along with all the hidden pockets in his robes.

This is just up the road from me – I hope we find out somehow when the local sets will be used – I'd gladly camp out to watch!

My idea was pretty much similar – I made an image of how the robe would look on king Robert and maester Luwin. Really quick one this time: http://westeros.ru/wp-content/uploads/set-costume…

That is interesting. I don't remember. Do we find out about this later on or is it in the first book?
SteveQuote Reply
That is very cool. I would have made the whole thing a little broader of course. The imagination runs wild at what type of character this is. It seems like at least a semi-important character would wear it. Reminds me of Wormtongue's costume from LOTR, but this one is more stately. Phat ring on his hand is a nice touch.
SteveQuote Reply
I would not disagree about the King Robert guess. Because of the belt, it looks like there is a belly coming out of the robes.
SteveQuote Reply
Oh jeez. Well…Deleted!
Stella MarisQuote Reply
Wow… so, if the camera man had snapped the photo about 2 seconds earlier, we might have had a close up photo of Mark Addy in full costume?!?
LexQuote Reply
I bet the people involved are having a laugh right now seeing how we are debating a picture showing (possibly) half a costume, especially since they aren’t even the ones who released the said picture. No, we inflicted this torture upon ourselves, searching the web for any leak…
NymeriaQuote Reply
It seems so.
And we are lucky enough that the camera man is not a good one, cause King Robert Baratheon, first of his name etc…just ruined fantastic shot, with his left arm and half a cloack. :D
