When the pilot was first filmed, Morocco was used as a stand-in for Pentos during the Dany scenes. It seemed likely they would be returning to the location when the first season was to be filmed. However that was thrown into doubt when, at the time of the green light announcement, George R. R. Martin mentioned that returning to Morocco was only “possible.” Now it seems that possibility is becoming more likely as a recent posting on the website My Entertainment World seems to indicate a return to the African nation.
Winter Is Coming: Unfortunately the details of the posting is hidden behind a subscription-barrier. If anyone has, or knows someone who has, a subscription to this site and would be willing to pass along the info, we would be much obliged. I’m going to guess that this is legit though and that Morocco will be the setting for all of the scenes involving Dany and company. They already did a lot of ground work location scouting and whatnot, so my assumption is they will want to return to the area they had already settled on.

It's gonna be a hot summer for the crew and actors.

Interesting to see the Tamzin is still on the list.

I removed the contact information.

Yeah, that is interesting. But nothing officially has been said yet regarding her, on the other hand.
I can speculate it is tightly connected to HBO politics – they will list her, as long as they officialy say it is otherwise.
Thanks Raijap for providing more info.
To be honest, I do not know much on My entertainment web site, is it legit or not.

I can't wait for late June, and regular shooting to begin. It's been such an anti-climatic dry spell, as far as news goes, ever since the green light. Can't wait for the ball to get rolling!

Might we be a little concerned that the Island of Ice and Fire might effect the filming of book one of our beloved Song of Ice and Fire saga. I read that when it erupted last in 1821, the eruptions continued for almost 2 years.

Well I don't think the ash would be a problem, it's to high to cause any trouble, and I just read in the news that the volcanic activity is calming down.
in any case, an big eruption will probably do more good than bad, after the Pinatubo eruption in 1991 the world temperature dropped around 0.5 °C , maybe it will solve the "fake snow" issue.

It'll make some pretty sunsets – nice backgrounds for a red comet maybe…

But for some reason Lena Headey and Michelle Fairley aren't.
NemoQuote Reply
Living in Northern Ireland myself, i can say that we have seen no real fallout of ash yet
all of the uk airspace has beem closed for nearly a week now and thats causing majorhassle but there is no filming happening here atm so i cant see it being a problem for the show…as long as ts open soon!
christina is right, got some pretty stunning sunsets these days, shame they are not here to shoot!

The ash as such might not show up as more than bright sunsets, as the ones Krakatoa provided for the background of Edvards Munch´s "The Scream". I am more worried for the long term effects on transatlantic air travel with the consequences that may have for the filing. So far the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano has waxed and vaned, and not really stopped, the 1821-23 eruption lasted 14 months, and nobody know if the near-by Katla vulcano will react.

Thats good news, as the international media has only focused on air travel and not on ground conditions. I look forward to watching those stunning sunsets come next spring when Westeros comes alive on screen.

morrocco schmorrocco. just give us a Dany that is actually pretty and not homely and I will be happy!

Sorry Tysnow, pilot was shot before ash cloud, during the winter, this has only happened recently! (more appropraite to story though i guess)
and they are not here to shoot atm and wont be able to get here…unless they swim…thats a mighty long swim…..
but im sure its goin to be great! im excited that place i spend my childhood summers are now transformed westeros. and if they do manage to get back over for re shoots well the weather here is as good as its been for a long while, clear blue skies. which is odd seeing as we are trapped under a dust cloud….

Anyone read No Ryan’s snippet from her interview with GRRM?
http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2010/04/mad-men-amc.html
I fin d it pretty interesting.
Can’t wait to read the rest!
NymeriaQuote Reply
ok, it's Mo Ryan… and I can't edit my post 'cuz Intensedebate wasn't loading at the time…

GRRM is back from Chicago and back on his blog http://grrm.livejournal.com/
NymeriaQuote Reply
ok, now considering GRRM's hint on the content of his interview with Mo Ryan at the end of his post and Mo Ryan's withholding of her article on her interview with GRRM, my guess is George gave her a scoop with an embargo, so big HBO series related news are coming are way "later this week"!
NymeriaQuote Reply
The way I read both of those is that there is (big?) news, either casting or otherwise, being released either late this week or early next week and they talked about it in the interview. Why else would Martin say "I'd tell you what we talked about but then I'd have to kill you" and Mo say that she'll post the interview either late this week or early next? She is waiting for the news to break from HBO or where ever and then post the interview about it!
@dsigalQuote Reply
Maybe, I am going to bring some tears here, but I actually asked Mo Ryan via Twitter if there would be some exclusive stuff in that interview.
She answered: Nothing super exclusive.
Maybe she is preparing some big suprise..I do not know.
But, unfortunately for us all, I think that everything related to Thrones is in HBOs hands now.
And that we must wait. :(
@The_Rabbit01Quote Reply
well of course, if she's waiting for HBo to release it before her, than it won't be super exclusive. The real question is, is there big news coming?
NymeriaQuote Reply
I don't think the reason Mo is waiting to publish the interview is because she is waiting on HBO to announce something. I think it is more likely to be because she has to edit down what was probably a 2-hour lunch into a coherent Q&A. Not something you do in an afternoon, especially when you have other responsibilities.
That being said, I have to imagine we will get some casting news soon. Hopefully by the end of the month?

Hewoo me bumpkins!
It is always most pleasure to speak with u. I must agree it is good to eat 2 hours of luncheon in the afternoon. I like a long nap on the after!
My great-grandmama was a Dothraki, and she is a great age!
Sorry, I'm just so bored I don't know what to do with myself. Where's the news? Where's the excitement? (directed to producers)..
I mean, yes it's true the show is far from getting aired, BUT what about us? We are hella dedicated, we come here every day!
We keep coming back, and it's not because we like each other, let me tell you, oh no. It's because we wants to see the greatest story ever spun come to life. I want to go to a premiere dressed like Yoda. My real name is Bilbo Baggins. Boobs.

@WiC… I noticed the Dothraki blog hasn't been added to the links yet. Not pressuring you or anything, just wondering if you forgot…

I can reveal that I suggested a few questions to Mo for the interview, with no guarantee that they would be asked, but it'd be interesting if they were. One revolves around the existing vast array of ICE AND FIRE art assets from the merchandise and if HBO would be taking them on board in visualising the series (I wish I'd heard GRRM's LotR comparison before that, as the comparison here would be how Peter Jackson recruited John Howe and Alan Lee and used a lot of their art designs straight out of various LotR calendars and illustrated editions in the movies, in some cases completely unchanged). There was another one about ADWD as well ;-)
