She is stunning and apparently a great actress with and without clothes.

The film in question is Pihalla, a Finnish-German production in which I was an extra. All the moments added together, I might have gotten more than one second of screentime! But it was a funny experience, even if the film itself didn’t end up being that terrific (not that I was expecting it would).

GRRM says:

Which leaves only the “ups and downs” and “12 steps” clues for the last actress.

Also since “Big Brother” was originally the “Fat Man”, and George admitted misremembering who gifted Dany’s handmaidens, I’m pretty sure we are looking for Irri or Jhiqui.

Tysha’s story could be told rather than flashback though. I still think its another hand maiden, one could argue that Tysha wasn’t much of a gift in the end (though more than Lyanna to Robert).

I’d say “not the sexiest female” belongs to the yet unknown girl, George’s “she was the sexiest female twice, NOT the sexiest female once” either referring to Roxanne’s “the sexiest female” and “she was the sexiest female, sometimes” clues or only the latter, where “sometimes” refers to it happening more than once. Anyway, it seems George got his clues mixed, as both “Yes, that one” and “No, no, the other one” seem to refer to Roxanne.

All in all, even “Take twelve steps to big brother’s gift. Big brother’s gift is not the sexiest female. Big brother’s gift has known a lot of ups and downs.” is not too easy set of clues. First might even just mean that her initials are A.A.

Frankly, I doubt it’s Amrita Acharya. I can’t link her to “not the sexiest female” clue in any way, in case it was a clue for Irri and not for Doreah as some have suggested. But if all we got for her original clues was that her initials are A.A. and she’s been in Elevator… then GRRM is quite cruel, because that would be completely unguessable without further clues.

The 12 steps clue is also very worthy of credit, that was a good one!

I appreciate the recognition, but without the glass eye clue, and the idea that 12 steps was for initials AA, I wouldn’t have found it. And others connected further clues, elevator and devil. Let’s call it a group effort ;) just happy to have played a part.

Forgot Jhogo and Will, so I guess that’s 18.

I see Walder Frey and Roose Bolton as very important for season 1. I have more doubts about Greatjon, Kevan and some more Frey apart from Walder.

The Karstark family could be omitted entirely from the series, but you only need one actor (Rickard) and the rest could be extras, so it will be a shame.

Sibel Kekilli …wow a fellow German actress (with Turkish heritage) has been cast. That was really unexpected.

Not sure how well she speaks english, but she certainly has the necessary talent for the role. She’s imo one of the best actresses our country has. Bummer that whenever she gets cast for a new role in Germany all the tabloids can only focus on her (very short) past as a porn actress.

Also, I have to wonder whether this is wise for HBO in the long run. I know SKY are paying them, but they also have to factor in that this will probably kill their DVD sales. Nobody watches Sky, and nobody will hear about HBO shows anymore. Or rather: after two or three years, the intelligensia will hear some good reports from critics, and a few of us may be tempted enough to buy a DVD, but most wont. But there’s a huge market of people who would love HBO shows if they could actually see them, or hear about them. Six Feet Under, for instance, was a massive hit, because it was on TV. Whereas if you mention Deadwood, SOME people might say ‘oh, yeah, I heard that mentioned once, what was it about?’

Battlestar is a good example. The miniseries aired in 2003, by 2008 or so some critics were saying ‘if you’ve got Sky, you should be watching this’, some people bought DVDs and passed them on to their friends, and by word of mouth, gradually it got to the point where most people within a select social type had heard of it – in 2009, when it was finishing. I and my friends have worked hard proselytising for the series, but it takes so long and reaches so few people. Whereas if it had been shown on terrestrial in 2004, it would have been a massive hit for five years and DVD sales would be immense. The Wire, too – everyone says it’s something they ‘have’ to see, but because you need to spend a whole load on the DVDs, and because most people haven’t been listening to TV critics much, most people haven’t bothered getting into it.

[I know that refusing to show it on real TV means that we have to buy the DVDs to see it -so the sales-per-viewer are no doubt higher. But this is surely more than offset by the fact that there will only be a fraction of the viewers.]

Can’t see how this isn’t a terrible idea for everyone concerned (other than His Dark Malignant Majesty himself, of course)

Really? Even the characters that GRRM goes out of his way to express are plain or outright ugly in the books have been filled by good looking actors.

Seems like a weird thing to complain about, i know, but really… there are characters we’re meant to connect with BECAUSE of their plainness.

Well! All the guys who have been complaining that there aren’t enough hot women in the cast can stop complaining. I have to say I never thought Doreah was supposed to be super super hot as she’s been cast. Might kind of draw attention off Dany to make her handmaids ridiculous bombshells like this…

Shae is just fine. I think they could have picked anyone hot and it would have been fine. Though seriously I could care less about her casting than Bronn’s, Which is to say very little. :)

And it did not take you very damn long to figure out the second role as well.

The part of Shae, the camp follower that Bronn the sellsword finds before the battle of the Green Fork and delivers to Tyrion Lannister, will be played by the amazing SIBEL KEKILLI.

Shae needs no introduction to any Ice & Fire reader, I would imagine. If you’ve forgotten her, you obviously weren’t paying attention, so get off the internet at once and go and reread the books. There may be a pop quiz.

Sibel Kekilli is a German actress of Turkish descent, who crashed onto the film scene in a big way in 2004 in an award-winning film called HEAD-ON, after being discovered by the casting director while shopping in a mall in Cologne. She’s won both the Bambi Prize (the deer) and the Lola Award (cherry cola, L-O-L-A Lola, and if you missed that clue, you obviously haven’t been listening to enough Kinks). The Lola is the “German Oscar,” and Sibel has actually won it twice. She’s also won the Tribeca Award and the Golden Orange Prize.

Sibel has twice been exbroiled in controversy during her short career: the first time when it was revealed that she had done some porn films before HEAD-ON, the second time when she spoke out against violence against women in the Muslim community. She’s courageous as well as talented.

I want to say a few words about her audition, which I thought was extraordinary. A lot of beautiful young women read for Shae. The scene they were reading was the first meeting between Shae and Tyrion, in his tent on the Green Fork the night before the battle. Shae is a camp follower, a prostitute, and she is, of course, coming on to Tyrion in a big way. There is a LOT of sexual heat in the scene, as written and as played. And all of our Shaes were sexy as hell. Watching them one after another would fog up anyone’s glasses.

But there’s another dimension to Shae as well. She’s not as practiced and hardened at this as a more seasoned pro. There’s still a girl next door quality to her, a sense of vulnerability, playfulness, and, yes, innocence. And it’s that quality Tyrion responds to, that quality that brings him back to Shae, and drives all that follows. He knows what she is, consciously, but down deep he wants to believe that he has found another Tysha.

All of our Shaes were hot as hell. But only a handful of them captured that other quality, maybe three out of twenty, and Sibel was the standout. It’s easy to see why she has won all those awards. Watching those auditions, any red-blooded male would want to take every one of our Shae candidates to bed. But Sibel made you fall in love with her as well.

She’s going to be amazing. And I can’t believe you figured out who she was so fast!

YES! Irri’s been cast! So sad about Jhiqui not having lines, but oh well. Dany’s handmaidens are three of my favourite minor characters.

All three actresses look perfect for their parts. I can’t wait to see Sibel and Peter Dinklage in their scenes

People are beyond pathetic. Am I frustrated at the length of time it has taken to publish this book? Yes. Would I post something like that on his blog? No. Because I know what deadlines are like, and I also like living my life without having to really answer to the people around me, and I assume, so does George.

Yes, I saw that but didn’t want to give it any more publicity. Too bad it didn’t get automatically moderated. Poor George doesn’t need such pressure nor deserve such disrespectful treatment. This is the kind of stuff that makes other fans ashamed and that unfortunately probably makes GRRM consider distancing himself from his fans.

Okay, not to nitpick, but uh… this article says Jhiqui will not have any lines in the series….but George actually says just for the first season. Just saying…not faulting Winter or anything… :P

Jhiqui will be in the show, but not as a speaking role. At least not for the first season.

Or at least she won’t be speaking much. A featured extra is sometimes allowed to say a word or two while still remaining an extra. We are trying to clarify whether “It is known” qualifies under this proviso.
