Well, after much hinting and promising and a much-longer-than-I-had-anticipated switch-over, we’re finally live with our new site design. So allow me to officially welcome you to the new Winter Is Coming site!
As you can see, the look has changed slightly. A little more pizzazz, but still clean and professional. The look is just one of the many changes and upgrades over the old site. Allow me to run down a list of new features:
New Commenting System – No more Intense Debate! The new commenting system should be faster and lighter. You can still comment as a guest, or login using your WordPress, Twitter or Facebook account. Also, gone are the old threaded comments. In its place is a forum-inspired, reply/quote system. Additionally you have the ability to preview your comment before posting. Should help avoid posting any broken links.
Expanded Cast & Crew Section – The new cast section has a gallery of headshots organized roughly by house and/or region. Clicking the image will take you to a page with a short character overview and actor bio. The page also features links to that actor’s IMDb and Wikipedia page (if they have one) and links to all posts tagged with that particular actor and their character. The crew section has been beefed up with bios on many of the key crew members.
Episode Guide – This section is a little barren now. But as the premiere gets closer we will be filling in the missing details. Look for it to include links to episode recaps and reviews, as well as any videos or images from the episode.
Media Gallery – The new media gallery will include Game of Thrones-related images and videos. We currently have image galleries for promo shots, fan art, and set photos. Each image has a description which includes the title and date of the post they first appeared on the site. All the galleries will be updated regularly. The video section will include teasers, trailers, behind-the-scenes videos, episode clips, and whatever else HBO decides to release.
These are just some of the new features. We will be trotting out more during the coming months. And the current content will be expanded as the show gets closer and closer. And, as always, we will continue to post the latest news and rumors. We will continue to work at making this the best site on the web for Game of Thrones news and views. Thanks!

This is a really classed-up look for the new site! Nice work! Much cleaner looking. And may I say, the revamped cast page is a delightful thing. Seeing them all grouped up properly, HBO really seems to be finding the right people consistently!
Let me give a brief introduction :) I’m a n00b to this series and the website, though I’ve lurked for a month or two. I was urged to start reading the series by some friends to prepare for the HBO series, so I started back in May and am currently at Sansa’s last chapter in Storm of Swords. I adore this series and I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when I finish AFFC in a month and have to wait undetermined periods for new material with the rest of you! Maybe start reading through them again? lol
Random thought: I must admit to feeling rather nervous for the show’s prospects on HBO. It seems like every time I get interested in a show on HBO, it’s cancelled before its time (Deadwood, Rome, Carnivale, Flight of the Conchords…) and the shows I have no interest in (Sex and the City, True Blood) are the ones that catch on. I’m hoping my luck changes with this series and we get to see it done to completion. There are absolutely mind-blowingly cool moments in SoS that we NEED to see!!

Looking good WiC! The comments system seems much better too.
Well done :)

So, to see the spoiler, we highlight the black box? Thats what I had to do….
Winter, it looks awesome. I love the home page and the cast set up is superb! Thank you for years of entertainment, and the ones to come man.
I can’t wait for more news (Tywin?) Though, the lull has allowed me to submit my second last draft of the ol’ thesis. I can’t believe I’ve managed to graduate from one degree, finish a masters degree, and start another degree (fall) since the first rumour of Games. It’s been quite a long time coming, I can’t wait for spring!

I think the issue is that there are also several popular ASOIAF forums, and I’m sure they’ll have their own sub-forums and threads dedicated to the show. I think a forum might be unnecessary, and might actually kill the unique character of this place.

Great new look! And here in Belfast it is 7.30am and I’ve just arrived at my desk having spent 20 mins at the Paint Hall on my way to work. There’s lots of activity – lots of traffic arriving at and going in through the gates. Didn’t see anyone I knew but I was quite far away. The car park – whicj is huge – seems to be much fuller this morning with all sorts of vehicles, and notably, a number of big white coaches (to transport the cast somewhere this morning?). I hope to get another lookin beofre I go off for a week’s holiday on Wednesday.
Only other titbit – Sean Bean was in a famous Belfast watering-hole on Friday evening, being very friendly. I was there the next night! Bah!
Much excitement here!

The cast bios made me realise that Gethin Anthony and Harry Lloyd probably know/knew each other (though perhaps not well). They both studied the same subject in the same year at the same university (unless one took a gap year) and attended the university theatre group. Even for a primarily British one, it’s amazing just how connected this cast is.

Very nice new design. And YAY for being rid of Intense Debate, which was an enormous pain on an older computer. I am sorry to see the casting comments go, though – it was nice to see what WiC, the fans and the producers said about an actor.
A few little linking problems: On the Cast page, Bronn’s and Sandor’s links do not work, going back the main page, and Arya’s page doesn’t show up at all.

What about doing a header that is a bit inspired of the HBO GoT-logo? The red and black? And HBO should be in the HBO-logo.
When the show starts many viewers will drop in and discuss. :-)

Congrats on delivering this awesome new website from scratch WiC!
I really like the header (great impact), the footer (Send us a raven!), the new cast groupings (best way to go IMO) and descriptions, the About pages (which were sorely lacking in the old design), the quite handy Media section, and the Belfast clock. Very professional.
Suggestions: it would be nice if you added a spoiler free description/title line to the cast (i.e. Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch) so we’d have a quick reference as to who is who without having to click on each character.
Also, just a heads up for a little typo I picked up in the About the Books page: “those you though were good can turn out to be evil”
“though” is missing a “t”.
And where’s Aggo? I just think it’s weird to list Jhogo and Qotho in the cast page without adding Aggo. Unless you know something I don’t….???
Thank you so much for doing this for us. You bring us together and give us a place where we can all share our passion and make the wait more tolerable. You’re awesome!

I’m currently rereading A Clash of Kings and last night, I read the Arya chapter where she makes her third death wish and tricks Jaqen H’ghar into helping her free the captive northmen and take over Harrenhal, plus the Daernerys chapter whre she goes in the House of the Undying and has all those visions and I was blown away. It’s entirely a matter of preferences… but I liked the previous layout better (the graphic aspect). It looked cleaner to me. Maybe I just don’t like pictures as backgrounds (although it works sometimes). In regards to your first request, I will be adding the comment pagination links to the top of the comments as well as the bottom. This should help alleviate some of the scrolling issues. Further down the road, I will look into seeing if there is a way to implement a “jump to new comments” or “sort by most recent” option.
