George R. R. Martin took time to discuss more of the cast. This time around the theme is Lannister, as he talks about Charles Dance as Lord Tywin Lannister, Eugene Simon as Lancel Lannister, and the horrific knight serving their house, Gregor Clegane, played by Conan Stevens. At the end of the post, we are told that the character of Tyrek Lannister, another squire to the king, won’t be cast, at least not in the first season. More fodder for FaBio’s fabled axe.
Hear Me Roar: Now, I know you have by now been thouroughly informed about these choices as you’re following our blog, but it is still interesting to read what George has to say about them, and reflect a bit more on the fantastic casting job.

Am I the only one who thinks that if Keven had been pushed back George would have told us in this post?

I’m wondering why George doesn’t say for which role Eugene Simon originally read. While he does say so for Conan.
Could be they haven’t cast the other role yet I suppose.

IIRC, there was a rumor back before the pilot started filming that Eugene Simon had been cast as Joffrey. So my guess is that he read for that role

Or it might just be because Conan had already revealed that he auditioned for Drogo and that they don’t really want to reveal what someone failed to get without their consent.

HB,
He certainly has the look for Loras, as well.

HB,
He auditioned for Joffery a while back.

*Gregor Clegane isn’t of HOUSE Lannister, but the house he belongs to serves the Lannisters

Grimtuesday,
I agree. I think the fact that he mentions Tyrek not being cast (no big surprise), but does not mention Kevan certainly says something.

Grimtuesday,
It certainly would have made sense. However not mentioning Kevan at all in the post isn’t a confirmation that he is in either. Perhaps someone with a LJ account can float the question to him in the comments?

Winter Is Coming,
I put it up there, we’ll see if we get a response.

Just the fact that George mentions Tyrek at all, tells me that he may be of some importance later, they never found his body as far as I remember. And casting Tyrek seems like a weird thing to do, since he´s barely in the books, I cant even recall him ever having a line in the books, why waste the money and time on such a small, seemingly non important character right? Its a great sign of foreshadowing to cast Tyrek in season 2, so we´ll know who he is when he returns as a major character(or something) in the last seasons(which we´ll get). :)

So there is one Lannister that has not been cast or mentioned anyone knows if Kevin Lannister will be cast or was the character axed?

Jeez, George is still talking about Tamzin Merchant? Get over it, George, you sound like a guy who can’t stop talking about his ex-girlfriend. Move on.

HB,
He didn’t say which because arguably Gregor is an equivalent role to Drogo (he’s around longer, even if maybe there’s a bit less screentime each season than Drogo gets in his one).
Eugene originally read for Joffrey, we know, which is a much more important role than Lancel.

I got an idea, though not sure it would be the clever one.
How about asking GRRM on his LJ for confirmation of the rest of the characters (not the cast) who will appear in the Season 1 ?
I am pretty sure he knows it by now, but I am not sure is he allowed to talk about it.
I must admit I am pretty curious on that matter.
I have not got thr LJ account, so I can not ask the qiestion.
Any way, feel free to say what do you think of this idea.

The Rabbit,
I don’t think it’s necessary. GRRM knows we want to know every detail and the casting of every minor roles.
I think he’ll do it in time. Either he can’t reveal them yet or he hasn’t had the time yet.
Just my opinion, though.

Nymeria,
Yes, I am sure he will reveal all in time. But when?
I am impatient :)

The Rabbit,
I think I can confirm that HBO is holding that information close to its chest, so I’m guessing GRRM isn’t allowed to discuss it either.
