    Karolina,
That was my first thought too. I can never wear mens shirts because a small is too big but after going to comic con and coming back with 9 free t shirts that were all too big I learned how to sew them to my size. So I just ordered a medium for me to sew up and a large for my hubby.

    silverjaime,
Doesn’t look like you can get them from the UK store…that sucks…do you have a friend in the states?

Looking forward to the show as much as any of you, but this kind of merchandise never attracted to me. Cheap prints and typically lousy quality of t-shirts, a bit like you see with merchandise for most bands.

A small, subtle statue of a wolf’s/lion’s head with an inscription I’d buy immediately though.

We need House sigils on Tshirts!!! Stark, Targaryen, Lannister, Baratheon, Arryn, etc! Yeah I’ll admit I’m not especially excited about the tshirts on the HBO website but I might buy one anyways just because it’s so cool.

Bahahaha, If you read the description for the paperback of AGOT on the site it starts with “In a world where the approaching winter will last four decades”

I don’t think that was on the original jacket was it? :P

No shirt for the ladies, but also no size small! HBO wins at making GoT an awesome show, but this is epic fail.

I think number 1 on my GoT merchandise wish list is a dire wolf flag. Maybe I shall make my own!

Anyone else read the descriptions they have of the novels? For A Clash of Kings they pretty much tell you how Arya’s arc ends in that one.

For A Storm of Swords it says In the north, King Joffrey of House Lannister sits uneasily on the Iron Throne…really? In the north? Then there is this bit “With the aid of a peasant wench, Jaime Lannister…” Brienne is definitely homely enough, but she is no peasant.

I was just wondering where those came from.

Sign me up for a Winter Is Coming shirt!

Second season is coming(not officially, but c’mon you know its going to happen). The question is will they wait a whole year or get moving and get a new season in for next fall/early winter. I’m totally jazzed we at least have an official month now, but the series has always felt like a fall series to me. Also, the kids being aged up makes it even more important to keep seasons as close as possible (although HBO’s track record for this isn’t so hot). Hodor Carrying a 20 somethiing Bran on his back would wreck the image in my mind.

welcome to the world of crass commercialization …

would it pain them to at least lift the book descriptions from amazon or something. i mean how do you screw something that simple up ….

as for the t-shirts … booooooring. with all the effort the art department put into creating all of the various heraldry you think that different house shirts would be a gimmie. there are only 4 houses in HP and that stuff sold like hot cakes (i should know i have a Slytherin track jacket from 10+ years ago that almost everybody i meet wants to steal).

who wouldn’t want a t-shirt that was of a colour of a particular house with their HBO heraldry on it?

wake up HBO marketing/merchandising people! read this blog and get some good ideas ….

I just ordered mine…I choose the one with the raven and the “Winter Is Coming” inscription… Just a note of caution, you can only pre-order at this time, the t-shirts do not start shipping until Dec. 31/’10. So if you wanted this for Chrismas (0r whatever) forget it. As others have mentioned, as far as I could see HBO only ships to inside the US and to Canada. Hey a few years ago I wanted to buy some “ROME” merchandise and they wouldn’t even ship to Canada! Which is kind of unfair seeing as I have to live on the other side of The Wall, where “Winter Is Coming” is not just a tagline, bit it literally applies…as I type these lines my city is getting swallowed in snow…

I am sure as the popularity of the series increases (keeping my fingers crossed), I don’t doubt that these items will become available on Amazon and E-Bay, who knows perhaps HBO will even start shipping overseas!

GoT paperback is listed at $16, while the rest of the series is $8.

Meh. I’m not impressed with the look of these shirts either. HBO can and should do better. The show offers a wealth of graphic possibilities. The aforementioned House sigil and words shirts, especially. Doing “Team Jon” or “Team Robb” shirts would be amusing, maybe (especially since they are never truly rivals in this series).

    Winter,

Please don’t let this site turn into a merchandising pool… where HBO can just use our passion to sell a few more toys.

I mean, we are all here because we love Ice and Fire & the upcoming series. But T-shirts? HBO can advertise them on their own just as well, thank you.

Come on HBO, just because I’m a geek doesn’t mean I want to look like one. These are almost as bad as Amazon’s wolf shirt. Give me a simple, small house sigil on my left nipple with maybe a text in the neck and I’ll be happy. Even better, give me a shirt that just says “Hodor.”

Am I the only one who’s feeling a bit suspicious about it? This seems like a good way to find out how many people would be interested in merchandise and how many would actually order something from GoT. Maybe this is all we’re going to get until much, much later in the series.

Maybe, though, they put the shirts up to see how the fan community would respond and what ideas we have about merchandise for GoT. In that case: HBO, I would love to see house mottos or quotes from the series on shirts. I would also appreciate shipment to Europe, or at the very least a possibility for Europeans to order the merchandise through maybe companies like Amazon or whatever. And shirts for the ladies among the fans, come on!

I just don’t like shirts with TV logos period, but it makes sense in terms of what to offer, since if you look at the other HBO shows’ merchandise it’s pretty much what they sell.
I will, however, buy obscure and/or hilarious fandom referencing shirts such as “Hodor!” or my Silent Hill (videogame, not terrible movie) Alchemilla Hospital shirt. Stuff like that makes me smile inside. I would also buy a t-shirt with GRRM’s quote about Ned being the main character of the series on it. Or…pretty much anything slightly hilarious.

Also, I guess I am officially declaring Team Littlefinger? Sure.

I’m a bit torn too. It’s certainly a commercial operation and I’m not mad about the design. But buying the shirts might also indeed show HBO our interest, not just in the merchandise but in the series itself, hence second season, hence Tullys…

In the same vein, I’m baffled by the restriction about shipping outside North America. Do they gauge their audience as purely North American? I’m not sure whether we can somehow get HBO here in Europe, but I guess we’ll get the DVDs. Don’t they want to encourage us to buy them? There are a lot of European fans of the saga.

As for design, I too think the obvious choice for future merchandise is the House mottoes and emblems. But also reproductions of jewellery and accessories, like the jewels from Lord of the Rings. (I’d die for a certain black fish brooch.) HBO can make agreements with external producers like Valyrian Steel for HBO-approved merchandise, right? I’m totally not knowledgeable about such things.

    Nate Hickman,

    I felt so strongly about that rubbish on HBO’s site I wrote this to them;
‘Was it such a good idea to have a semi-literate five year old, who cannot possibly have actually read the books, write the descriptions in the HBO shop? I’ve read all the books and think them beyond compare yet your review seems to think them over-long and not on a par with Robert Jordan. The person writing the review also has clearly got no idea who the characters are (describing one as a Princess who blatantly is not royalty in the book), giving away plot twists and contradicting the earlier reviews over the length of ‘winter’ in a manner that does not relate to the contents of the novel at all. My favourite books ever and your review makes them sound like crap! Well done. I suggest someone sacks the person responsible before they scare off any other potential customers.’

George Martin not as good as Jordan??? FFS!! What a brilliant bit of advertising that wasn’t.
