Bit late to the party but merry christmas and all that nonsense.

My biggest wish? That the show will be the best thing tv has ever seen. I’d rather have weak ratings, no emmy’s and an alas no season 2, but that it’ll be remembered as an even better Firefly. Of course, quality and succes usually go hand in hand with HBO, but if I had to choose it would be the quality.

And of course ADWD, but that’s also on my 2012 list just in case.

I agree with everything you’ve got up there, Winter.

My only addition is the option to purchase and/or subscribe to the show online that doesn’t require a cable package purchase or US residency.

The only thing stopping it at this point is HBO’s relationship with US cable companies.

    Very much looking forward to A Dance with Dragons, but I wonder if HBO has done the math. If they do a novel every year, that would 2011=A G of T, 2012 = A C ofK, 2013 = A S of S, 2014= A F of C, 2015 = A D of D, 2016 = Book 6, 2017 = Book 7.
If A D of D, comes out this year, it may be possible that Book 6 will be out by 2016. But it will be impossible for for Book 7 to come in time to go on HBO. Just saying

I agree but in Monica Belluci´s case, she is 46 now, after 5 seasons, she will be 51, I repeat, 51, too old even for the magnificient Monica, too old to play as our beloved-hated red priestess, Lady Melisandre of Asshai.
As you all know by now, maybe not, my first pick, money aside, Eva Green, the real one, the they can pay for, the one and only Bridget Regan

As much as I want to see ADWD published soon, it’s #2 on my list. At the top is such an overwhelming success for the TV show that it enters the vernacular the way that the Sopranos did, that it is the subject of watercooler conversations in every office in America and stays that way until the final season has come and gone. To become an intergral part of the zeitgeist and to see the novels studied in English literature classes alongside Moby Dick and Huckleberry Finn.

    How’s that for ambition?

Short of that, Christopher Lee as Qyburn and Bridget Regan as Asha. And someone still in her twenties for Melisandre and teenagers for Ygritte, Brienne, Margery, and Meera. As well as Emmy nominations for Sean Bean (Lead Actor), Michelle Fairley (Leading Actress), Peter Dinklage (Supporting Actor for Season 1), and Lena Headey (Supporting Actress).

I still think she is the right age looks wise, mid 30′s and has an aura that not many actresses have. Eva green like many hollywood actresses is too skinny and too young. Also she’s not exactly exotic.

It’s kind-of the rule that it used to be ‘series’ in the UK and ‘season’ in the USA. However, ever since American shows started airing in the UK regularly back in the 1960s, ‘season’ has become much more common here as well, especially since VHS and DVD box-sets of American shows called ‘Season 1′, ‘Season 2′ etc. Today the two terms are interchangeable.

    Ana Carolina S.,

Agreed ADWD – lets face it, unless himself actually does some writing HBO will catch him up pretty soon, and have to finish the story themselves!!? Also the DVD box set of GoT as I live in the middle of nowhere, with no Cable and no Sky subscription – guess xmas 2011 will be the earliest I`ll get to see Thrones?

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hmm. My wishes are mostly the same as everyone else’s (season 2, to be impressed by s1, ADwD, good ratings, etc).

To keep it interesting, here are some others:

    1. They cast a suitable, talented, unknown actress as Brienne and don’t pretty up the character.
    2. The Dothraki turn out to be awesome in the actual show, they succeed at capturing my imagination and all my fears are completely unfounded.
    3. Whoever is cast in the wished-for second-season, they are enthusiastic about the project and fall in love with their characters the same way we all have.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!

My wish is that all this time Roose Bolton has been cast and filming certain his scenes in secret for season 1.

    Brad,

Roose Bolton does everything in secret (including your mom) and therefore I feel that this is entirely appropriate. XD

    gintim,
I live in a country where HBO isn’t available, so to watch it next day after airing I’ll torrent it (there are places where they put new episodes in 720p several hours after release in US), as I do with all other shows I watch, but I’ll of course will buy blu-ray as soon as it’ll be available. Personally I think this is a problem of outdated media distribution system, failing to keep up with the progress, I just can’t understand why so many media is “meant to be” US-only, why they are putting these artificial barriers for people from other countries, and I believe that justifies torrenting.

    My ASOIAF wishes:

    1. A Dance with Dragons! (featuring a very detailed Theon torture/comeuppance scene. Heck, lets have a Greyjoy genocide, in which only Asha survives and gets with Dany for hot, empowered lesbian love on dragon-back…)

    2. I am cast in HBO’s Game of Thrones. As Asha Greyjoy. Heh.

    3. Game of Thrones is the #1 show of the year. Emmies and ratings galore…

GOT Christmas Wish #1 That the show is a good as we all hope it is!

    reedgirl,

All very interesting wishes coming from a Reed. If they age up Meera, it could be a threesome. (Sorry, Bran. You’ll have to get a crush on some other girl.)

OT, but why do the Reeds have such a bastardly name (Snow, Rivers, Stone, etc.) when they are clearly highborn?

(…as highborn as one can get, being from a swamp. Maybe they give a nobility title to anyone who manages to have a surname.)

Okay, maybe they just fall under the “Not highborn but well-respected” list. But I always thought the name sounded curious.

    2. Season two greenlight!
    3. Emmy nom for Best Series-Drama

And basically for the show to be excellent beyond our wildest dreams.

This post will probably get deleted.

Why don’t you just torrent it like everyone else who doesn’t have HBO? Then you’ll get to see it when it comes out, and besides, not like you’re not going to buy the DVDs anyway, right ? :)

    About Yea High,

The Reeds are so high up on the food-chain, they don’t need fancy surnames. The frog-eating/swamp-living is just to keep the lesser mortals (read: shallow, short-sighted, ultimately doomed Westerosi) away! You’ll see it happen when they whip out their ‘Children of the Forest’ t-shirts and get their Ents on the move… ;)

In all seriousness, the Reeds do appear to be the ‘mystics/ethereal mortals’ of the Seven Kingdoms. On my second read of CoK I started to wonder if Howland Reed could warg. It’s mentioned that Howland’s ‘intervention’ was the only reason Eddard survived the fight with Arthur Dayne at the Tower of Joy. Now I am assuming a lot – that Howland is small like his children, and not necessarily a warrior with Dayne’s/Eddard’s prowess. If he warged into something that Dayne did not expect, it might count for the vague description of Howland’s assistance at the ToJ. Then again, he might have thrown his frog-net over Dayne and Ned simply stuck him through before he got himself stuck-through.

(Although the Reeds are my favorites, at 5’11″/178cm tall, there’s no way I’d ever get the role of Meera. The threesome would be a-okay with me though – plenty of room on Drogon’s back for a few more consenting adults…)

Ofttimes I have sat and tried to picture how the Tower of Joy sword fight played out.

I always imagined that the Kingsguard in their arrogance, underestimated the little Crannogman (lacking armor, and armor-penetrating weaponry) and Reed seeming like a wise and cunning man took advantage of this. Having the advantage of speed and mobility, would have kept a clear distance if assaulted by one of the Kingsguard and probably kept on the edges of the fight, striking sparingly and opportunisticly, aiming to throw his opponents off balance to give the others an advantage

    Blackfish Blues,
whoops, sorry, in my enthusiasm I accidentally posted my wish list for the coming DECADE :D

For the coming year, here are a fangirl’s wishes:

    - A charismatic, ironic and handsome actor for the Blackfish.
    - Maege Mormont! An Imelda Staunton type
    - Discovering they put the Tower of Joy as a flashback in S1, with Julian Sands in an uncredited cameo as Arthur Dayne.
    - A season 1 I can truly like (little doubt about it)
    - Announcing S2 and maybe 3.
    - Lots of costumes and banners I can copy and bring to conventions :D
    - Everything all the others said!
