I gotta say, all this news is like water to someone dying of thirst! The last couple of weeks have been so dry.
Well, we can finally say with certainty that we’re only THREE MONTHS AWAY! It seemed like we were saying 4 to 5 months for so long…

This is good news, for me. We’re only THREE MONTHS AWAY!!! It seemed like we were saying 4 to 5 months for so long…

What does everyone think about the thursday night time slot? I thought I sunday nights were HBO’s best night?

YAAAAAAAY !!!
It just hit me… I’m so emotionally invested in this series partly because I’ve been there “since the very beginning”… I mean, most of us fans here have been excited about this series even longer then the actors playing in it! Holy crap. And it its all, largely, because of this site.
I’m so happy. And a huge, huge “thank-you” to you, Winter, as well.
(and the others too :D)

Nakmal,
The 17th of April is a Sunday!

It’s funny, I wasn’t sure that this TCA event would be all that exciting… and now I’m jumping up and down like on the other “big news days” (teasers, greenlight, etc.).

Awesome news. We knew we we’re going to get a date during this conference, but I thought we were going to get it tonight. I can see why HBO decided mid April as opposed to the 3rd, the shows still need to have a bunch of post production stuff done (particularly CGI) and they want to have a few new previews with all the post work done. I hope we get our first full trailer in the next few weeks (I’m dying to see the Wall now).

Grinbomb,
I think it’s because after the last season of Big Love, which ends the 20th of march, they are gonna air the miniseries Mildred Pierce, which will air its final episode on April 10, and so GOT will premiere on the 17th.

Great news! So excited! FYI…..that’s Sean Bean’s birthday! (52)

APRIL 17 IS MY BIRTHDAY!!

Adam Whitehead,
This is …. strange. I was sure there was going to be no overlap with True Blood.
This schedule means it premieres on Palm Sunday and the second episode is on Easter Sunday, a big travel weekend, which I don’t like.
It means it overlaps with True Blood for three Sundays. It must be going in at 10 PM, not 9 PM., so will have three eps of TB as its lead in at the end of S1, including the finale, which is good. (Although there is a possibility GOT is going in at 8 PM, the S/V/L/N requirements makes that very remote.)

Same here. I remember GRRMs posts on his blog about HBO being interested in the adaptation and his pleas not to get too excited because it doesn’t mean official pilot order or greenlight.
Following this adaptation from way before the pilot was ordered through GRRMs blog and, of course, WiC was a very exciting experience. I can’t think of any other adaptation which I may follow this closely, maybe except of Dan Simmons’ Hyperion Cantos, if it ever gets made.

Adam Whitehead,
Does HBO ever show two episodes in a row the same day?
Johan SporreQuote Reply
DH87,
S/V/L/N? It’s HBO, they can show Basic Instinct at 4pm if they wish. lol. But, I get what you are saying. More likely, they keep True Blood at 9pm as it is their power player, and 9pm seems to be earmarked for that time with each series.

April 17th is also my birthday! That’s awesome!!

fiendebass,
Maybe GOT IS going in at 8 PM. Otherwise, at 10 on the Sundays in June, it could be going head to head with Mad Men on basic cable (AMC) if the MM Season 5 negotiations with AMC are ironed out quickly. At either 8 or 10, GOT will not get that important 11 PM (EDT) repeat on Sunday nights, at least for the three True Blood Sundays. That 11 repeat is important for ratings purposes, at least to HBO. I don’t get this scheduling at all.
DH87Quote Reply
YES!
Wonder what time it starts. Hmm, will be at college so I will have to find out how to get it HBO in my dorm room.

DH87,

Any idea when GoT will be airing in the UK/Europe?? It’s gonna be on Sky right? Anybody know if it will be released simultaneously in the UK and in the US or if the UK is gonna have to wait months on end…??
Animal89Quote Reply
Animal89,
It’s starting in April at least. Just guessing I’d say within a week of the airing in the US.
Johan SporreQuote Reply
Animal89,
You can check what we know so far about international airing here. HBO also promised to keep us updated about these dates in other countries as well.
