Hbo really are spoiling us with these trailers! I can’t quite tell though who gets knocked off the horse at around the 1.09 mark. I don’t think its Lora’s and you can’t really see much of the shield.

I love the last line were the guy says “may the gods help us all”. It gives you the feeling of, ok were not in Kansas anymore. Could anyone else tell if you could see the face on the weir wood tree. I couldn’t tell if it is just more subtle than I would have expected or it just was on the other side

Jaime is holyshitonsteroids hot, without even trying. I have now lost all respect for myself.

I get the feeling that HBO is trying to match faces with names. It seems like every time a name is mentioned, they switch to a shot of that character on the throne.

    City,

Yeah I get that feeling as well. They are sensitive to the idea that the names and places are strange and the plot is vast and complex.

So they beat the audience over the head in the trailers to try and make the basic framework as simple as possible to begin with.

    It’s smart.

I guess Renly was the one laughing hard during the jousting seen. I wouldn’t have caught that, he’s not really how I would have pictured him. I think he could be a good Renly, I mean he seems the care free reveler.

I, uh, may have watched that trailer a dozen times or so! It’s glorious. I’m just worried that I’m going to fall in love with Cersei and Littlefinger, two of my least favorite characters from the books, because I love the actors so much.

I love that whole exchange, although it seems strangely antagonistic in a way, considering what we later learn about Jaime’s and Tyrion’s relationship. I guess Tyrion does later on think that Jaime’s the only member of his family who’s ever shown him kindness.

The thing I really like about the way they’re doing these trailers is that they’re really teasing the uninitiated with interesting looking characters, and just hints about the general shape of the plot. Especially after the last year or two of watching network shows where the characters are transparently just vehicles to get us through the Big Plot (The Event advertising campaign, I’m looking at you). HBO really seems to understand that as cool as this plot and setting will be, it’s the characters that’re the real strength.

Spears with lugs like that were used for combat in the Middle Ages, not just for boar hunting– the lugs helped to avoid getting your spear stuck all the way through an opponent. But who knows, it could be a boar spear.

    The DarkStar:
In the shot with the heart tree at around 0.14, the branch in the top middle looks like there is white paint(or computer stuff) that just stops and then a natural wood color abruptly starts…

Yeah, I saw that too, but I think it’s impossible to tell from such a brief shot whether it was really that or just a confusing shadow. But if it was a mistake, I think the chances of it getting to air without being cropped & fixed are very small, even if there weren’t a lot of obsessive viewers on the Internet. :)

I feel silly arguing about analysis of a less-than-half-second shot, but…….. I’m not so sure. You can clearly see the lance splintering into a million pieces, which isn’t how the scene you’re thinking of was described.

This is the first GOT trailer as far as I’m concerned. It has a good mix of elements made for the trailer, to get across a point; edited well with clips from the actual series. Previous trailers have been very light on actual series clips, enough that a fan without access to the source material could have done as well, or even better. This trailer proves that there is some substance behind it and that the show is actually going to happen! Fortunately we have had behind the scenes type bits which also proved that. Without those, only going off of trailers, the past few months would have been very scary.

Ooooh I needed to remind myself to breath, this was amazing. The shot of the godswood is great and love the heart tree. Also this is the first time we get to listen to a part of the original score.

I’m glad they are doing the match faces to names because unlike the competition the cast is huge and not everyone is familiar with the names. I always worry that people were going to find Camelot much more accessible because it’s a variation of very well known mythology but this just wipes the floor with it especially after they aired the first episode the other night and GOT is way more epic.

It is absolutely perfect except for two things. 1) HBO has been a bit too HBO-ey with the inclusion of the sex-scene, especially as it is just a bit jarring coming just after the ‘fear and blood’ speech. Still, it is HBO and HBO doing GRRM at that, neither are known for their subtlety with females and sex. 2) I am not meant to lust after Littlefinger. Tee hee, at least he sticks around for a long time. I have high hopes that he will survive and come out on top.

Arya is there briefly, though she’s in disguise ;)

If you recall there was a shot in a previous video of Maisie wearing a Stark guards helmet, we weren’t sure if it was from the show or just some BtS goofing around.

In this trailer though in the scene where the Royal Party is leaving Winterfell we see from the back a very short Stark Guard standing on a cart.

Awesomeness once again! A few thoughts:

The godswood looks beautiful – quite LOTR-like.

Catelyn looks beautiful as well. …yeah, and Jaime.

I love Viserys’ line to Dany. He speaks to her with sweet compassion. This coupled with the worried look he gives Dany when Drogo takes her away, seems to tell us that we will see some big brotherly feelings from him despite it all. I like it.

I’d like to see some more namings for the general audience. How about the good old (“the things i do for love”) *freeze frame* “Allright so this is Jaime – he’s pretty high on himself and is the brother of the queen..:” Naah.. Would be funny, though.

Just a few words on tonight s new preview.
    Liked very much.
Love the atmosphere in the Godswood and the WF crypits.
The scene with LF, Ned and Cat looks like some one took the image I got in my head and put on the screen. Incredible.
Waiting unpatienty to see some screencaps, cause the internet I use over here on the vacation is terribly slow.

NCW is unbearably hot (Did I say it before? :D )

This was very welcome to come home to after a weekend away :)
It was a proper trailer. At first there were scenes we’d seen before so I was afraid it was all going to be old clips, but then awesomeness resumed.

The Godswood looked fantastic, just the colour of red and white I’d imagined. It looks like a beautiful scene, and Catelyn overally looked very good in these images.

Dany’s line “I want to go home” sounded much better here when it was answered by Viserys’ “We’ll go home with an army”.

Looks great, can’t wait. Only one problem I don’t have Sky and can’t afford it being essentially a penniless student. I just hope they don’t overplay the Jaime being evil angle or it might put off non book viewers come later seasons for obvious reasons. One small problem is that I always pictured King’s Landing as a dark gritty medieval England kind of town, 13-14th century style and Malta doesn’t really fit that image, but then again that’s just me.

No you’re not alone there. Not a huge issue though, plus Malta looks nicer and I suppose they wanted to make a stark contrast (ha ha) between Winterfell and King’s Landing.

    Wow, just wow,

    some things I noticed:
First the godswood looks awesome and HUGE, some theorized that it would be considerably smaller than in the novels, but it seems massive. The weirwood is amazing, it certainly could be the face that is looking down on Ned. I hope in a frontal shot you can see it’s eyes… BTW another glimpse at weirwood leaves when the company rides into Winterfell in the upper right corner at 0:38.

I like the long streching crypts and the way the wax from the candles is formed by the cold winds (0:23).

A nice (first?) good look at the Goldcloaks at 0:24.

Are those Silent Sisters at 0:47 watching over some sarcophagus in the throneroom?

The dagger sticking from an eye at 1:02…and who is the captive the Lannister guard is holding in the background on the right?

The severed horse head at 1:03.

Ghost certainly looks massive and it seems to me that it is not only a forced perspective shot, but also CG enhanced because it looks like his left hindquarters are party concealed by the throne, which would make him sit on the same level as Jon and not in the foreground…

    Absolutely AWESOME!!!

Yep, up in the upper left of the weirwood tree there is a line where the white paint ends (I’m sure they will take care of this during the final edit of the show.)

The godsood looks amazing. The weirwood is a European beech (Fagus sylvatica – in the same family as fig), which is exactly how I pictured it in my head. There is a grand old European beech outside of the building where I work and I often like to sit on the bench under it to eat my lunch in the summertime.

    Kathrina Martinsen,

The foliage and branches with foliage are fake – see how you can’t actually see where any of them are attached to the larger branches? They perfectly match the description of the weirwood leaves (red, shaped like hands). My guess is they pruned the lower branches away that had the foliage and strapped on the fake leaves. They did a good job with it.

And European beech is the only tree that has that kind of bark and growth habit that is native to the UK.

On Topic: the new trailer is really great. I’m just starting to worry about my ability to understand what’s being said. English is my second language, but normally I have no problems understanding it. Maybe the sound in these trailers is a little bit off or my hearing is getting worse, or it’s just because of the speed of the trailer that I’m having trouble to hear the speech right (too much sensory input at the same time). When I rewatch the trailer I can understand what’s being said.

It does not need to mean anything, of course, I don’t think they even speak English in Westeros.

I don’t like how the Jaime vs Eddard scene has played out:

    1) It’s day, as opposed to night in the book.

Wow, that is even more awesome than the first Iron Throne preview!! Probably my favorite trailer so far. (The “Making Of” segments don’t count…I’m talking strict promotional trailers). I first saw the picture of the Iron Throne on a cell phone screen when I happened to meet an HBO person on the train. I was told it would be used soon in promotional materials…but at the time I hadn’t even conceptualized how awesome those would be. It’s really great to see the trailers and what not getting better and better as we get closer to the series debut.

    A few thoughts:

-The Godswood and the Winterfell crypts look just as I imagined them. The Godswood definitely seems to have a holy/reverential atmosphere bordering on a “fantasy forest” type look – like Lothlorien or Rivendell, i.e. I hope we get to see the Stark tombs, namely Lyanna’s, as Robert and Ned are talking. That might not be possible if they haven’t cast her yet, but it would be awesome.

-I love Michelle Fairley’s subtle indignation when she talks about the King coming with the Lannisters, especially when she says, “with all the rest of them…”

-I also adore Viserys’ line in this. It’s very self-righteous, as usual, but it also demonstrates one of the few moments in which he truly plays older brother and teacher to Dany. His tone is that of a reassuring teacher, telling her why they can’t go home but how they will. In the books, Dany herself said how she couldn’t hate Viserys because he was her brother and because he was her only link to Westeros. I still hate him for the abuse he puts her through, but I do want to see these moments on screen.

-I too had no idea, after several viewings, what Jaime was saying to Tyrion until I read the thread here. I’m really looking forward to how the actors portray that relationship on screen.

-The flashing shot of Jaime swinging the sword is intense and perfect.

-Still love Jon and Ghost on the throne, and that clip of him riding the lift up to the Wall. Cannot wait to see the Wall for the first time!

-Aidan Gillen is so perfect as Petyr. He’s such a douchebag in that scene, but I want to see more.

-I’m really not into Renly. The actor seems to be jovial enough, but the look is all wrong. I always imagine Renly to be really pretty, with flowing hair and fancy clothes. And in this shot they have Gethin Anthony looking like a monk with cropped hair and what looks like a burlap tunic. :(

-Also, not really into the “You were trained to follow/I was trained to kill,” scene anymore…I feel like they’ve used it in everything.

-”There’s a storm coming, Ned.” = “There’s a storm coming, Harry.” Just always, that’s what I think of.

-DINKLAGE! SLAP JOFF SLAP JOFF SLAP JOFF!! Oh what a glorious moment.

Looking at that flashing image of Jaime swinging the sword and wondering what it’s from. I haven’t seen any suggestion that they will be using slow motion or other effects to accentuate fight scenes a la 300 or Spartacus. Maybe it’s just a promo shot, or a regular shot where they added the effects for the trailer. But I’m also thinking maybe it is from a flashback scene. Kingslaying?

Love this new trailer! They keep getting better and better!

I wouldn’t hold my breath though about this being music from the soundtrack. Typically TV shows and movies use specific trailer-music-making companies for their trailers, like X-Ray Dog, or Audiomachine, or Two Steps from Hell, or Immediate Music, etc. all master of epic scores IMO. So I want to know the name of which company made this song (and the one from the trailer Old Nan narrated)! (If they aren’t from the OST) If they are OST, then we’re in for a real treat.

I still can’t get over their choice for Renly. The only shot we have of him in both trailers is a common football hooligan in a smock with his mouth hanging open unflatteringly. The did well with Robert (well, he’s shorter than in the books) making him an on old stag gone to seed, but Renly is supposed to be stag in his prime, blossoming with virility and hotness. The actor who plays him better bring the acting chops to the table, or they’ve made a serious mis-cast.

The did well with Robert (well, he’s shorter than in the books) making him an on old stag gone to seed, but Renly is supposed to be stag in his prime, blossoming with virility and hotness. The actor who plays him better bring the acting chops to the table, or they’ve made a serious mis-cast.

Methinks I should dub this Joust Hooligan Gate. Pending HBO’s release of further Renly footage if they want to prove me wrong.

Has anyone commented on the line, “Who but you can protect the king?”

    Who is that, Maester Luwin?

Probably from the bedchamber scene, could also be Grand Maester Pycelle I guess.

BTW Re: Swordfight – we see Ned about to destroy a Lannister guard in the 3rd teaser released or something like that

    clemintine,

I’m with you on Renly. He’s a pretty important player in the grander scheme of things, so I hope he is well acted. I know appearance isn’t everything, but all I see him as now is a sloppy guy who likes to party, not too charming and elegant as I see him in the books. And that’s not the actor’s fault, because with the right costume and styling, I think he could be a really good Renly. Also, I wish he had blue eyes! :(

Sure there is. It’s very clear. In the fight scene at the Dothraki wedding, there’s a Dothraki guy & girl cheering, and she is topless. It’s quick, and it’s clear, but it’s quickly clearly nude. That said, it’s not sexy or flattering, to be sure. I’m sure there’s LOTs better nudity to come in the series.

    J:
There is no nudity in the clip…

I think the casting for Renly is probably fine, I just think his hairstyle (including facial hair) was a really bad decision (one of the worst so far, from what we’ve seen).

But I always remember one of my first impressions of Renly was when he burst out laughing during a meeting of the small council. This shot of him laughing at the tourney seems to fit, IMO. He’s supposed to be a bit of a jack ass.

Is it bad that I’m looking more forward to April 17th than my birthday two days later and my college graduation?

    You tell me.

Yeah, it’s not that I think the actor himself playing Renly is hideous or anything (though to be honest he’s still not my image of Renly in his flattering photos). It’s just a bizarre hair/beard/clothing combination for the character that makes him so opposite of what I think Renly as. Why didn’t they clean him up?
