Food trucks roll out in NYC

The Game of Thrones food trucks will roll out in New York City this week (LA comes next week). Each morning will bring us a new video previewing the menu for that day. Today, Tom Colicchio previews his menu for King’s Landing which features cripsy trout and roasted rabbit.

Of course, you have to keep an eye on the Game of Thrones Twitter and Facebook page to find out where the food truck will be stopping today. The location should go out around 6 PM.

Also, Making Game of Thrones has posted the menus for each day this week. Plan your food truck runs accordingly. For those coming to the moot on Friday, looks like we will get served (appropriately enough) Winterfell-inspired dishes, which include venison and head cheese. Fun!

@GameOfThrones just tweeted that the food truck will be in the Union Square vicinity today. Exact location to come around 6 PM.

Next link will be up in a couple hours or so.

smart location, there are always hundreds of people hanging out in Union Square. Great first location, the food should be gone quickly though.

I hope every evening isn’t based on crowded, high tourist neighborhoods. I’m sure they’ll do Times Square — but it would be awesome if they set up near the Cloisters in Fort Tyrion (sic) Park for the Wall (i.e., the far North of Manhattan).

Any other NY/LA locations that fit with the books?
Wall St for Lannisport (or the Wall, I suppose)
Central Park for the Dothraki Sea
Brooklyn for Pentos (the East River subbing for the Narrow Sea)
Staten Island for the Iron Isles.
Brooklyn Bridge for a Frey meal.

I might shuffle over to Union Square tonight, but I worry that the crowds will be massive.

    Mr. Frey,

    Haha, clever.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the locations some a combo of: Union Square, Times Square, Washington Square, nearby Central Park, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, Herald Square/MSG, maybe the Southstreet Seaport (which would be good for me given my work location in the Financial District). Hopefully the Friday cart is in a good location so that it doesn’t cause any trouble for the moot!

Also, I think the Pentoshi menu sounds noms.

Fort Tryon sounds like an awesome location, and suits Game of Thrones perfectly. I don’t know about Staten Island, no offense to those of you from there.

If they ever consider a Game of Thrones outdoors event here it would be ideal.

Hmm, to go or not to go? On the one hand, Union Square isn’t that far from where I work, but on the other, it’s a pretty big shlep from there back to where I live. I’m not planning on eating anything, but I do want to see the truck and any fellow fans… dilemma.

Head cheese has to be the least appealingly named food in the history of the planet. Which is fitting, I guess, since it looks to be near the top of the list of most disgusting foods in the history of the planet

    Adrian,

I’m actually pretty excited about the head cheese :), but then again I’m one of those nose-to-tail types who happily eats anything, from monkfish liver to veal brains to pig trotters to blood sausage. It’s an adventurous choice, for sure, but it seems true to the books and their medieval-ish time period.

I will say that the Pentos menu looks especially appealing…roasted duck! And lamb flatbread? Totally into it.

What makes a cheese a headcheese??? Is it scraped off a head, served in a head, have bits of head in it, be shaped like a head and served on a spike? What? Seriously if you know please enlighten us………….Oh yeah, almost forgot. HBO is still showing the first fifteen mins. of episode one on April 3rd right? 9pm ET and on HBO.com straight after? Just wanted to confirm this is still happening,as its this Sunday coming.

I don’t know whether to try for today or tomorrow, both sound pretty great.

Probably tomorrow, I guess. I dunno about head cheese on Friday. I might donate my spot in line for someone else, heh.

Wikipedia says: Head cheese (AmE) or brawn (BrE) is a cold cut originating in Europe. Another version pickled with vinegar is known as souse. Head cheese is not a cheese but a terrine or meat jelly made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig (sometimes a sheep or cow), and often set in aspic.

Not quite adventurous enough for that, lol.

    Two Feathers,

My understanding is there’s no actual cheese. It’s some kind of gross jelly full of chopped up bits of an animal’s head. One of those things you have to wonder when exactly and HOW people thought something like this was a good idea.

Don’t forget you can also get venison on Friday. As long as you get there early enough that is, as I’m guessing the venison will be gone first. Almost anyone I have talked to about the head cheese has been all “ewww gross!” and I suspect that will be the reaction of most folks waiting for food on Friday.

    Winter Is Coming,

Having to choose between venison and head cheese seems like it’s along the same lines as having a choice between delicious filet mignon and a freezer burned Steak-um that also fell on the floor while it was being prepared. Both are edible, but with one you just have to ask “What’s the point? Why hasn’t this been thrown out yet?”

    dtb,

There’s 3 weeks before the show starts and two weeks of food (this week in NY and next week in LA). I was kind of thinking they would skip it for two weeks and then do one based on the food/menus and such the last monday before the premier.

They ran out of lemon cakes after about 200 people. More importantly, I was probably #203! I saw the last lemon cake go seconds before I stepped up.

The trout was excellent, had a sweet little apricot sauce, but the portions were small. Not insultingly small, but just … Tyrion sized. They had plenty of rabbit, but people were ordering the trout. (and apparently somebody Hodored all the cakes).

I was in front of two young women who were trying to decide whether they were excited about Camelot or Games. So it didn’t seem to be too fannish. I definitely saw some people standing in line just because they heard “free food”.
