Four new Game of Thrones posters

IGN TV has the exclusive reveal of four new Game of Thrones posters, featuring three more characters sitting the Iron Throne. Robert, Cersei and Dany are the new characters and there is a new shot of Ned as well.

Winter Is Coming: Can’t say this is unexpected. This poster idea was so perfect it would have been crazy for them not to do it. But seeing the images with the quotes is pretty awesome. Now I want to see some more. Jaime, Tyrion, Jon and Catelyn next?

I like the Cersei and Ned ones. Not so sure about the quotes for Robert and Dany.

Yeah the Dany quote is a little weird…and the Robert quote makes him sound like a madman or a complete idiot and he was only a little bit of both :-p. Dany’s just sounds weird, since well until the end of book one, she does have a gentle heart. But Ned and Cersei are awesome. Ergh I can’t wait to see them on screen, especially together. Lena gave me chills in the trailer!

    Reposting from prev thread:

Those posters are cool. I’m not a big fan of the words on Robert’s though.

    What should it have instead?

    “You’ve gotten fat.”

“I’m going eat, drink and whore myself into an early grave.”

“Ban whores? Would you like to ban eating and shitting at the same time?”

“The King eats, the Hand takes the shit.”

The Cersei poster is oddly demure. I like the Dany poster, it shows not to underestimate her. The King Robert poster I was not too sure about, unless it refers to his love of hunting.

I like them. Yeah, the quotes might not fit the characters, but this is advertising for the public, not the fans. It hardly matters if the characters are misrepresented a bit in promotional posters as long as the posters do their job of getting people to watch the show.

    I love these posters!

The thing to remember is, this is HBO so these posters are going to be like the True Blood posters…they will be in subway stations, and on bus stops and all over the place. The Robert line about his love of hunting is gruff and funny and juxtaposed with that intense picture will generate a lot of interest. The same with the Dany…a soft, beautiful image with a suggestion of the opposite. People are going to see this, see HBO at the bottom, and go “Wait, Game of what? I am intrigued!”

Dany’s sounds S & M . Please don’t let me be the only one who thinks that :P

King Robert sounds badass/thug until you remember he means killing only woodland creatures, with a band of other hunters/dogs/horses nearby.

    I would KILL for a Littlefinger poster. O. M. G. “I daresay you will make a noble splash…”

These are cool. Not so sure I love the little sayings/mottos on each one, but I think the character shots are awesome, and I like the idea of each character getting the spotlight on their own poster.

I like the Dany quote. Yes there could have been better, but given the story arc of her first season, and how “gentle” she seems on the outside, I think this is fitting, where as “fire and blood” might be a more accurate tag line for the third season, with a few dragons surrounding her.

Pretty dissapointed with all of them. Here’s what I would have done (some are more appropriate for later seasons, but no spoilers):
*Note – the format is [person's picture]: [text]

Jon: Night gathers, and now my watch begins…

Tyrion: Even a little man can cast a long shadow

Melisandre: The night is dark, and full of terrors

    Brienne: Brienne the beauty
    Brienne: The maid of Tarth

The Hound: Do you know what Dogs do to Wolves?
The Hound: Strong arms and sharp steel rule this world

Arya: I am the ghost in Haranhal

    Ned: Promise me Ned

Littlefinger: Life is not a song

Lord Tywin: Some battles are won with swords, and others with ravens

Dany: I am the blood of the dragon

The Red Viper: How many Dornishmen does it take to start a war? Only one.

I’m waiting for a Hound-anything. His “Strong arms and sharp steel rule this world” and “A knight is for killing” quotes totally set the tone for the series’ brutality, and would work well in a trailer/clip (hint hint hint, HBO).

Love the posters. The quotes are a little weird, but I’ll chalk that up to my bias as a reader. Remember that we’re not the ones these posters are meant to appeal to.

Also, it’s just weird for me to see Dany on the iron throne. Her story just seems… separate. In my head at least. Here’s hoping it gets less weird after I read ADWD!

I love Cersei ‘s quote. Actually that saying makes her a lot more 3-dimensional character than she is in the book 1. Don’t get me wrong though, I completely agree with GRRM’s way to develop a character over few thousand pages. For the sake of the show though, if HBO will present her a very complex person in first few episodes, it would spark more interest.

Well done, Brude! Seems obvious now, but someone had to come up with it first ;) I like them all. Yes, Dany and Robert quotes seem off to us fans, but … as people pointed out, this is promotion for the general public. I realize that. Playing the game of thrones is a ruthless affair, they seem to want to convey, thus the quotes. We’re surely getting a couple more in the next weeks, what do you say? Unless they want to keep it focused and single out only some of the sprawling cast to make it easier. Still, then we have Jon missing, at least :)

Nice pictures, not such nice quotes… The only quote that that I like is Cercei’s. The ones for Robert and Dany are plain stupid, and for people that don’t know the books, Ned’s quote doesn’t mean anything at all (for him something with honor would have been better). Also, the placement of the quotes is not very easthetical. Then again, maybe I should look anew later in the day when I’m more awake and positive ;-)

Cercei pensively holding the knife is really the image that stands out for me. And I absolutely can’t wait for Littlefinger with the Distrusting me… quote. Truly, from all the bits we’ve seen and heard so far, THAT is the one that stands out, even more than stick ‘em with the pointy end. Jaime’s quote should also be sweet! (I hope HBO will go the Kingkiller path rather than with ‘The things I do for love’, although for winning over fangirls the latter might be more effective ;-)

Nice posters but Dany’s seem to tell too much. I would rather have seen that they had Viserys and Dany together in the promo stuff to show the Targaryen threat. A shot of them with a text about the usurper, ‘Fire and Blood’, or perhaps ‘you’ve woken the dragon’ if they aren’t afraid of including fantastical elements.
