Littlefinger’s profile video and the props master

Now available on iTunes and HBO’s YouTube channel is the character profile of Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish. Enjoy this closer look at the smarmy type, portrayed by fan favourite Aidan Gillen.

Secondly, flying low under the radar, HBO has put out a new video in the Artisans series, embedded below for your viewing pleasure. Gordon Fitzgerald, the props master, takes us on a tour of the various Game of Thrones locations and explains how each of the sets was dressed to emphasize the differences between regions.

Hear Me Roar: What to say about these new vids? I don’t know about you, but I think the Dothraki goat is really cute.

    Oh thank you baby…
    Littlefinger is absolutely perfect.

I think Sansa looks rather old and “adult”… I am going to say something very unpopular now but I am looking forward to her scenes with the Hound *giggles histerically*.
Anyway, I wish we had more footage on Hound/Mountain etc.

    And Varys is priceless

… The scene with Littlefinger and Sansa has me torn now. I mean, the man is hot there’s no denying. But the hint of pedobear that he throws in to the mix is just plain disturbing.

Truly, that is some brilliant casting.

Littlefinger is nothing short of amazing. Definitely one of the best castings in the entire show. Aidan gets the balance between Littlefinger’s traits which stretches from a charming, funny man to scheming and creepy.

We haven’t seen too much of Varys but from what I can see he’s also really good.

Brilliant!! Fantastic casting! Aidan IS Littlefinger. He can do smarmy and charming and sinister and disturbing standing on his head – he has excelled at parts like this throughout his career. (Watch Dice and see him flirt with a 12-yr-old – ugh!)
And hot hot HOT with it……….!

The smile he gives Sansa is really creepy, and therefore quite fitting, but are we supposed to “get” that he likes Sansa in an inappropriate way straight away? I mean, that smile, just says it all.

    Artisans? Not so much.
Least charismatic artisan feature by a long shot. A couple decent snippets of props and scenes, but after all the recent proper promo videos, this is very underwhelming.

I am glad they’ve aged Sansa up (13 in the show, I think Sophie is 15). It really allows them to explore her relationships with The Hound and Littlefinger in subsequent seasons without it seeming really pedoish. I think The Hound tells Arya something like “I should have fucked your sister when I had the chance” in SOS!!!

Yes, I double-checked the itunes list earlier when I snagged the Littlefinger video (which is on my channel along with the Sansa vid). Still no fuller-length Stark House feature.
The Costumes feature is harder to get a hold of than I anticipated. I was able to log into Fancast, but they’ve disabled all downloading features and add-ons. I tried the old CamStudio type recording, but the Fancast video player is so jerky that it really just sucked and wasn’t worth uploading.

Gordon Fitzgerald has been the props master on some of my favorite movies. I was hoping for a bit more from his Artisans vid, but they didn’t show much at all. It was a little blah. I do love the Scottish accent though, so I’m still glad I watched it. :)

What a fantastic character to have the chance to bring to life, and Gillen is enjoying it. So pleased.

I was always hooked on the character, and in a show filled with superb casting choices, this is one that stands out even among this crew. His Sansa interactions were perfectly slimy. I can’t wait for “Only Cat.” in season 3.

Would also like to see some footage of Lysa Arryn and little Robyn, but they’ve got to hold some back, I know. Steve the Pirate,

Hehe, I’m always correcting people about that. Just because someone is attracted to a person under 18 doesn’t make them a pedo. It’s a very specific and abnormal attraction that people have generalized – much like people claiming someone is “bipolar” or “schizo” if they are moody :P

Anyway, back to Aiden – glad that people have forgotten that he isn’t “little”, but as I and others have been touting – it didn’t matter if he was not short – he had to be otherwise able to pull off that charming/creepy/hot/understated power vibe and he is so wonderful that his height just doesn’t matter :)

But calling littlefinger for a pedophile is realy not correct I think.
In 2011, sure he would be…
But this is not our world and its inspired by medieval times.
The moment a woman is able to bare children she is an adult… Historically and clearly in Westeros it is the rule. Even marrige befor the girl is an adult is sometimes done if the political connection is importen. What I think is wrong is how he tries to use the doughter like a replacement for the mother…

Watching his video and seeing the brief moments of Sansa’s lines and her face, she seems to be doing well too. I’m seeing proof that Sophie will be annoying when she is written to be, sympathetic when she needs to be, strong and weak as required by her situation.

I’d be interested to see a Sansa feature. But I suppose she doesn’t have a lot of moments for character growth early on, and they want to avoid spoilers…so they might be limited in what they could show in such a feature to put the audience on her side.

Smegma: Anyway, back to Aiden – glad that people have forgotten that he isn’t “little”

    Zack,

I felt that was the most important part of Littlefinger, but he as he is described in the books: He is handsome and meticulously stylish, but also quite short. He has gray-green eyes, a small pointed beard on his chin and dark, graying hair

I didn’t think it was at all vital to keep him very short but there were a lot of people that did. But really, on the screen height is just NOT an important thing – nor was it imperative to the character.

Indeed, you’re right! I had seen that when you first posted it, but forgot it. Thanks for the reminder. She’ll be good :) I was critical at first but I think in retrospect it was unfair. Her moments to shine in the book come rather late and can only really be hinted at in this video, subtly.

ITA. We all have our things which are important to us in the adaptation, and ideally a character’s physical description would be carried over. But in so many cases it doesn’t matter all that much. I am having a hard time picturing someone else in this role, he’s absolutely owning it even in these little bits.

    Jarmel,

Sansa doesn’t start her period until AFTER the Hound leaves. And we get her own thoughts on her physical “development” in ASOS, so one can assume she did not have a womanly figure prior to that. So.. Gross. But, still, the Hound and Littlefinger are awesome – and creepy – as hell.

I had been worried that, seeing Sansa on screen rather than reading about her in a book, she might lose the irritating edge she has to start with- and I do think that’s intentional, it gives her room to grow later. But Sophie seems able to play up Sansa’s annoying aspect when needed, and from what little I’ve seen Sansa does come across very like in the books.

Littlefinger’s video is just awesome. He’s very creepy indeed.

I don’t think they’re playing up Littlefinger’s attraction to Sansa as much as they emphasizing her awareness of and discomfort with it. As I recall, it’s plenty clear in the book that Littlefinger is linking/confusing Sansa with Cat in his mind, but Sansa herself was more confused than upset. (She cottons on later, of course, but she is still pretty innocent in GoT.) In these clips, she seems distinctly ill-at-ease and aware that Littlefinger is doing something less-than-appropriate.

I almost wonder (/mushy-heartedly hope) if Littlefinger’s overtly creepy attraction to her will serve as a contrast for Sansa when she has her interactions with the Hound– a much more physically frightening presence than Littlefinger, but someone who she comes to feel safe around fairly quickly.

Here is his nickname’s explanation, from GoT:

Catelyn’s mouth grew tight. “Littlefinger,” she murmured. His face swam up before her; a boy’s face, though he was a boy no longer. His father had died several years before, so he was Lord Baelish now, yet still they called him Littlefinger. Her brother Edmure had given him that name, long ago at Riverrun. His family’s modest holdings were on the smallest of the Fingers, and Petyr had been slight and short for his age.

HAHAHAHAHA Littlefinger pedobear. Just at the reference, no lols at pedophila :(.

One of the most perfect castings in the series. He’s already so charming yet creepy, I can’t even fathom a performance in Seasons 3 or 4. I was surprised to hear Aidan’s “real” voice. I knew he was Irish but it sounds like he’s changed his tone/pitch/whatever when he talks as Littlefinger.

I imagine he’ll garner a lot of fangirls. Jaime might be the one that will get peddled as the dangerous type, but Littlefinger is so much more devious. If Westeros were our world, Jaime would probably be a star athlete that rides around on a cool motorcycle making girls swoon. But Petyr Baelish is definitely the guy in Armani suits, driving an expensive foreign sports car, who knows how to get you into all the most exclusive clubs, who provides access to designer drugs, who charms you into loving him so he can manipulate you to fit his every need and scheme. Oh, and his wealth is a complete mystery, because he has no job you can ascertain. I’ve gone on for far too long and am slightly embarrassed, but I will let the nerd flag fly high. :(

I’ve been a fan of Aidan for Littlefinger since WAY before his announcement, and he’s turned out even better than I hoped. I’m glad HBO has moved him up to one of the main players in the first part of the series, just like Jaime.

Also, while discussions of his official classification are interesting, I think we can all agree that his obsession with Sansa is not in anyway wholesome.

For those who have read all the books: I think the father and daughter role play was partially included to discount any theory that his obsession with her was anywhere approaching normal.

I really hope we get the creepiness with both Petyr AND the Hound. He’s a little less hot and a lot less magnetic, but still hanging out with him is a constant reminder how sexy that guy can be. Kinda reminds me of Ralph Finnes in Schindler’s List. Haha, I know right? He used to have a huge thing for me and I made us stay in the friend zone, despite being attracted to him (but he was too much of a homebody for me). Great guy – married now. Too bad, could have totally bought into the whole roleplaying as LF thing (okay not really, yuck lol).

That scene with Sansa definitely gave me the heebiejeebies! Every bit as slimy and creepy as I imagined him, perhaps more. I think I’m one of the few who hasn’t seen the Wire, I don’t know Aidan Gillen at all, but he looks absolutely perfect to me in this role. Really, really spot-on casting.

Ok, as a disclaimer, this post is about to be completely superficial/shallow/trivial/etc. But all the comments on Aidan/Petyr’s attractiveness got me thinking just how blessed we ladies are with the casting for this show. Please see below. :)

    Devious hot – Littlefinger
    Athletic hot – Jaime
Bring home to Mom hot – Robb
    Tormented hero hot – Jon
    Exotic hot – Drogo
Past the edge of insanity hot – Viserys
    Fairytale prince hot – Loras
    Fashionable hot – Renly
Intellectual hot – Tyrion (okay, so we all know BOOK Tyrion isn’t physically attractive, but Dinklage’s Tyrion is another breed!)

Yes, finally a Littlefinger character video. With Petyr being one of my favourite characters in the books, I can gladly say that Aidan Gillian seems to suit the role perfectly.

I hope that there will be character videos for the rest of the main cast also. Oh, how much I’d like to see a Theon and a Hound video… Those two, Joffrey and Ser Jorah are the only people left in the main cast not having a video.

Haha, I was just having this conversation with a friend of mine. I can’t get over all the amazing eye candy that women have in GOT. It’s really hard to choose – one moment I’m fawning over Kit Harington, the next I realize that I’m ten years older than him so I go to Harry Lloyd, then I realize I’ve got the amazing Aiden Gillen to make me squirm in all the right ways – and I was NOT prepared to think NCW was hot (although Jaime is one of my favorite characters) but his smile is exactly what the character SHOULD have – he’s not just athletic, but charming and badass. Richard Madden is also a great looking guy, and Peter Dinklage is definitely a handsome guy. As I’ve said elsewhere, I don’t even like BIG men but Jason Momoa is fantastic as Drogo and I can say I would definitely ride that stallion.

OMG what is wrong with me today!?

I can appreciate the subtleties it might take to not overact in a role when it’s supposed to be annoying or cloying. And being Team Sansa, I am pretty picky about how this character is portrayed, and I really like what I see so far.

Sophie has made Sansa slower, dreamier than she herself is; if you watch or listen to a Sophie Turner interview, she comes across as the typical teenager, speaking in excited, breathy word-bursts. Her Sansa speaks slower, more hesitantly, as if coming out of a dream. She’s a subdued character; proper and careful with her words, and thus perceived as slow of wit.

Even the critiqued “Please, please” she gives her mother is subdued, because I suspect raising one’s voice to one’s mother does not show one is mature enough to be made queen. And she really wants that! (A Westerosi Kate Middleton?) So I suspect she’s trying to show she’s calm and mature whilst flashing mum the big blue puppydog eyes.

Arya acts out; Sansa follows the rules of decorum at all times. It’s what gets her into trouble.

I was talking to one of my old teachers about it recently actually, and she described it to me as that it’s not so much like your everyday tv show as more like watching a novel. Which I have to say sounds quite intriguing. I’ll add it to the top of my things-to-watch-asap list :) (and I will for sure start from the beginning.)

I would say yes, since HBO has appeared really faithful to the text, but those things will be rough to watch, and especially with a young actress involved. :( Poor Sansa.

Let’s try to remember in the books, Sansa has yet to blossom. Not sure if they will use the scene where she tries to burn her bedsheets to avoid being married off in the later books. It’s a pivotal part of the story so not sure if they can use it with the aging up.

Interesting glimpse of the new Varys/LF scene. I guess they will be playing up his attraction to Cat a little more obviously than in the first book.

I’m a huge fan of Michelle Fairley from what I’ve seen so far… but I think Jennifer Ehle looks like a more believable person for LF’s undying crush. It’s probably the one area I still think Ehle might have been better.

I’ve lurked on this website for a long, long time without ever posting. But HAS to be said: the man has absolutely NAILED Petyr’s characterization. This is by far my favorite profile video, and they give you just a taste of all the things that make the charasmatic Littlefinger.

SPOILER DISCUSSION: Has anyone else had the feeling that, in the books, its Littlefinger that is behind absolutely everything? He convinces Lisa to poison Robert and blame the Lannisters (starting the huge conflict between Stark and Lannister), betrays Ned after Robert dies (probably convinced a petty boy is easier to deal with on the throne than a man such as Ned), and has Joffery murdered and swoops Sansa out of Kings Landing. Really, what I see him doing is attempting to gain all the power behind the North and East and attempting to take it all for himself with the forces he has binded to his cause. Anyone else agree? Yes, its speculation, but it just seems perfect and ALMOST obvious.

It think the “aging up” of Sansa is brilliant. The age difference between her and Littlfinger is wide enough to be creepy but not so much that certain U.S. cable news personalities call for a boycott of HBO.

On the topic of creepy, and Littlefinger related things, do you guys think that Lysa will be as creepy of a mother to Robin as she is in the books, for example by still breastfeeding Robin?

I would hope that was still in (since it’s a great thing to show the freaky Lysa) but there’s a big complication in having a boy of that age performing such a scene, and it will perhaps seem a bit strange to include it but always make it out of view when so much else will be shown.

    Kanga,

Yes, The Wire has been compared to a novel rather than a typical show – there isn’t a lot of “cliffhangers” or way dramatic moments or action – but its evolution is slower and more carefully drawn out. Not to say that it’s dull – there’s a LOT going on – but it’s like watching chunks out of these people’s lives rather than just the highlights :) Some people turn it off after just a couple of episodes because “not enough has happened” but really, they are doing themselves a serious disservice.

And yes, that was Aiden Gillen as the bad guy trying to kill the queen. I had watched it only because he was in it and I wanted to get that 90 minutes of my life back. But his presence soothed my tortured soul.

I have had the same sentiments regarding Fairley and Littlefinger. He’s just too hot for her to make it seem believable that he’s been carrying around a thing for her for so long. I thought Ehle’s beauty would make this a more believable plot point. HOWEVER, it’s more about what used to be when they were young rather than what he feels for her currently – which is why he fixates on Sansa. I am a huge huge huge fan of Ehle and she was my long hoped for choice, so I was supremely disappointed at her departure – but I do think Fairley has shown to be a great actress and that to me is the most important thing.

But with all these other amazing castings I’ve kinda forgotten how much I loved Bean. So many hot guys, so little time. But as it stands my top three are tied at Jon/Viserys/Littlefinger, Jaime a very close second (maybe even tied for first haha), with Ned/Robb/Tyrion/Drogo/etc all a very close third. I do dig the Hound too so maybe I should include him on this list. Oh shit, and Jory too! And Marillion! GAH TOO MUCH TO HANDLE!

Funny thing, sorta … Years ago, I went to school (University) with a guy who was a dwarf. But he was SO smart and completely the sharpest tool in the shed that I felt “Hey! I could completely be attracted to this guy!”

Which – I guess – meant that I was, all along. Hmm … wonder, if he’s into AGoT at all …

It’s interesting to think that if/when they get around to filming Seasons 3 & 4, Sophie Turner will actually be quite a bit older — maybe even 17/18? I wonder if that will have much impact on Alayne’s relationship with Littlefinger.

I’ve always read Littlefinger’s feelings towards Sansa as sorta half-pedobear and half-paternal — he sees Sansa as the daughter he could have had with Catelyn. Weird, yeah, but Littlefinger clearly has some emotional issues to work out.

I also kind of love the Sandor/Sansa relationship — creepy, I know! But his confessions to her have always struck me as both horrifying and pathetic — his “little bird,” etc. Makes him so much more sympathetic/tragic.

    Lina,

Damn gurl, damn! I also agree with all of this and I love that WiC is such a safe space to exercise the female gaze (also possibly the male-on-male gaze, nothing but love there as well!).

I’ve actually been carefully studying pictures of Jason Momoa in real life and have come to the decision that he might be the most beautiful man on the planet right now. (And married to/having babies with Lisa Bonet? REALLY YOU GUYS? What, you can’t spread all those good looks around the gene pool at least a LITTLE BIT?)

However, I’m also firmly in the “Team Jon” camp. (When are they casting for Ygritte, again? Is there a sign-up sheet somewhere around here? Christina Hendricks dyes her blonde hair red, I can certainly do the same!)

Well, if you’d like to see some more Aidan, check the show out! Not the same kind of character, but still a great performance.

HELL, forget Aidan, if you haven’t seen The Wire, see it now! Period. It’s hands down the greatest TV show ever made, and will probably remain so for decades to come. I’m sure GoT will be awesome, but it still wont come close to touching The Wire.

I’ll be honest. I hate Littlefinger. As a character I found him to be horrid…and just a major pain in everyone’s you know what. He did sort of redeem himself in my eyes in AFFC when he saved Alayne but I still don’t trust him. However, if anyone can play a character I’ll love to hate, I imagine Aiden can do it.

By the way, it’s weird how un-Irish he sounds (to me). Until he says the name Littlefinger (Li-L-Finger, lol), he sounds just like Mayor Tommy Carcetti.

And on the topic of hotness, I whole-heartedly agree with being extremely happy with all the hot actors in this show. I would like to add the following to the list Benjen who I think/hope is Cold Hands

PS: I really can’t wait to see who they cast as Euron and Victarion and if we will see Rhaegar Targaryen in a flashbacks.

    Catherine Henry-Greskovic,

I don’t think the ageing up is a problem at all- I understand Sansa is intended to be a little younger than Sophie’s true age, she will still be young enough. I know some girls who didn’t start until 16, so it’s entirely believable if Sansa is 15 or 16 when that scene occurs. It’s the older end of the age range but it certainly happens.

Personally, I never took his nickname to mean his stature, but instead his position in life. He comes from humble beginnings but dreams big.

I have all the characters descriptions written down on paper. While it does say he’s short, shorter than Catelyn, It also says that his family’s modest holdings were on the smallest of the Fingers. So I would guess that his nick name has something to do with both of those things to some degree. Having said that, I personally never cared that he was taller than the character is described maybe because he just seems like Littlfinger to me, in how he looks and everything

Smegma: Haha, I was just having this conversation with a friend of mine.

So right! I was planning on keeping my fawning to myself but not anymore! Kit Harington, Richard Madden, NCW and Harry Lloyd… Suffice it to say I wouldn’t mind getting my Kit off for any of them! :L (Makes fanning motion with both hands) Eugene Simon is quite cute too but he’s a little young for me I think…

By the way, for those that want to see lots of mostly naked Aiden Gillen, you can google “Queer as Folk UK episodes” and there are several places with them – I think I actually found them on hulu so you can also start there. There is a lot of man on man kissing and a lot of simulated sex – so just be aware if that stuff doesn’t float your boat. But he is pretty damn excellent in the show (he’s the best reason to watch, really). For those wondering, Aiden Gillen has been married to a woman recently – but divorced now. I have no idea what he identifies as – bi or straight – but he definitely does not shy away from the sex in QAF – and he had a few scenes in The Wire too (straight sex though). Funny enough, if I remember right, his character in QAF gets it on with a 15 year old boy :P

    We don’t know.

Some people think there must be some big secret to it but it may just be something he wanted to do. Members of the Stark family had been joining the Nights Watch for thousands of years, as a third son he may have thought about it from an early age and once Ned had returned home and Benjen was no longer needed as The Stark in Winterfell he decided to join.

Is this an error in the show or does the Old Bear make the same error in the books?

I don’t think it’s an error… a lot of wildlings are fleeing south as the Others get more powerful with the approach of the Badass Winter of Death. While most of them later turn out to have joined up with Mance Rayder, a minority flee (and a smaller minority (Craster, etc) stay where they are). A band of them (Stiv, Hali, Osha) try to rob Bran, but get chewed by wolves, shot with arrows and taken prisoner for the troubles.

Guess I should be more specific. So far she has seemed perfect to me. Granted, we haven’t seen her in a complete scene, but I am sure the casting director and the folks involved with the production know what they are doing. So far, all of the casting has been, as the Brits say, spot on.

We know that she matures and her motivations change greatly as the books progress, and I am sure that the Powers that Be took that into consideration when they cast Sophie.

Lina: Petyr Baelish is definitely the guy in Armani suits, driving an expensive foreign sports car, who knows how to get you into all the most exclusive clubs, who provides access to designer drugs, who charms you into loving him so he can manipulate you to fit his every need and scheme. Oh, and his wealth is a complete mystery, because he has no job you can ascertain.

I think you just described a pimp. Funny, given the character.

Oh, and is it just me or did anyone else read (and hope to see) Littlefinger’s interest in Sansa split two ways. Yes, he looks at her and he see’s Cat, and this excites him, but even more so, he sees a perfectly placed piece on the board.

Creepy may be his hobby but Advancement is where his heart lies.

This is the second time I’ve seen the “whores don’t sink” line, but I see they’ve again omitted the following line, which is really the punchline – “and when they’re boarded by pirates, why, pirates pay good coin like anybody else”.

A pity, since that line is hilarious.

Right, because 40 year olds with a 15/16 year old is less pedo than 40 year olds with a 13/14 year old.

It doesn’t matter what the legality is! 16 year olds are still not fully developed adults, both physically and emotionally. They are in the transition between adult and child, maybe not prepubescent, but definitely duringpubescent. So yes, I would say it is paedophilia, and appalling that people on these boards actually romanticize any such relationships.

    clemintine,

what we have here is either hebephilia or ephebophilia and is common in many world cultures, including western culture just over a 100 years ago. your post shows a shocking amount of ignorance to the world around you..

Here’s a question for you, why is it wrong?

Gen gap relationships in our culture are frowned upon because of the unequal balance o power they present. the older more financially secure, more sexually confidant can easily manipulate the younger adolescent. Now in a westeros culture where the man is given the power from the beginning, a young wife, married before she starts exploring her sexuality with other men, taught to be dependant on her husband for all her need starting before she can make any significant connections in court… Do you not see why a young wife would be ideal?

not only that, but attraction is CULTURAL! what is attractive is very much taught and brainwashed over time. once voluptuous woman were considered the ideal, the stick figures of today would be sneered at. I have a collection of silent films, you can really see the different standards of beauty over the ages just from that. And yes, that includes seeing 15 year olds as attractive, and 25 year olds as past their prime.

My great grandmother was married at 13, we really are not that far removed from this sort of behaviour. please get off your moral high horse and do some research.

sorry fro the rant. this is a topic i get really frustrated with.

Either way. I guess by your definition, being a pedophile and living out that attraction is legal in most countries.

Yeah attraction to a 16 year old is definitely not pedophilia. I have a 16 year old daughter and she is plenty “physically” developed, more so than 40 year old women that I know. Would I approve of a 40 year old man and her dating? Hell no. I barely approve of her having ANY bf, even if he’s 17 :P

Anyway, it’s a complicated issue. There are girls at 16 (like my daughter) that have been developed physically for years. They LOOK like they are old enough – but mentally and emotionally the 16 year old is just at a HUGE disadvantange to someone in their 40′s. I would question a 40 year old’s motives about having interest in someone that young, but not assume they are pedo’s. I remember being that young and plenty of older guys liked me and I knew girls dating much older guys. Young girls often like older men. Older men often like young girls (at least aesthetically, maybe not emotionally/mentally). They are full of hormones and extremely fertile – that’s a biological fact that men react to them in a physical way (unless there are other deviancy such as being attracted only to much older women or whatever). The legal aspect is there to protect the younger person, and it’s not a hard and fast line anyway as some people have mentioned. In some areas it’s 15, others it’s 18. Sexuality and maturity are complicated and there will never be a 100% right way to approach it – but by having those age minimums in place they can at least draw a line for protection of the minors.

Sorry I am tired and rambling so I should just stop it there – just wanted to say that I don’t think LF is necessarily attracted to little girls (after all he has lots of sex with Lysa) but rather has a fixation on one teenager. He’s disturbing for a lot of ways but not necessarily for pedophilia

Hahaha, love it! I think Gethin Anthony is a pretty good-looking guy, but I do agree he doesn’t really fit my mental image of Renly. I was really glad to see him in a nice costume in the House Baratheon video though, as before that we only had the quick flash of him at the tourney (?) in the green potato sack.

I find it funny that this thread has turned into a debate about pedophilia. When people said, “Oh Littlefinger is so pedo,” I’m not sure they meant it to say he is scientifically or technically a pedophile because he is attracted to a girl of such and such an age. I think it was just being used more colloquially to say he’s creeping on Sansa. God, we’re so good at gatewatching we’ve turned our own COMMENTS into a gate (pedogate? shudder…)

So I think some people have already said this but I agree: He doesn’t take an interest in Sansa because she is young; he takes an interest in her because she is Sansa- because of Cat, and (probably*) because he thinks he can use her for his scheme of advancement.

*I say probably because I still can’t figure out what he’s up to. We know he wants Sansa to take both the Eyrie and Winterfell, but I see this desire having a few possible motivations: (1) he wants to do it for HIS sake, so he can rule through her/hold influence over her, and having the North/Eyrie would be huge; (2) out of his so-called love for Catelyn, he wants to see Sansa happy and restored to her rightful place (and he’ll still end up winning because she will remember what he did for her); or (3) the plan is a sham and a last-ditch effort to posthumously stick it to Brandon and Ned Stark for “stealing” the girl he loved. At this point I’m leaning toward a blend of 1 and 2.

    Jenny,

There are a few major differences, really, but most are in the book and (potentially) not in the series.

First, Dany is a “flowered” woman, where Sansa doesn’t have her first period until SoS – which is why she and Joff were not married immediately after Ned’s death. From a sociological/psychological perspective, therefore, The Hound and LF both show pedophiliac tendencies. Drogo, on the other hand, marries a woman who is able to bear children – even if she is inexperienced. Additionally, I always got the feeling that Drogo is closer in age to Dany than LF is to Sansa, but that could be entirely wrong.

I think that the big problem that we are having with this debate is acknowledging that we are talking about totally different things. We have the legal aspect (age of consent), the psychological aspect (pedophilia as a disorder), and the social aspect (the “ewwww” reaction that a lot of people have at the thought of that large an age gap between those discussed). While the first and second factors may not come into play with the LF/Sansa relationship on the series, I’m pretty sure that the third will stick around.

I’ve already posted it once, but people seem to think that they get to redefine words to suit themselves.

I’m not “redefining a word” to suit myself, I’m being colloquial and words do carry more meaning than their cut and dry dictionary definitions. Everyone is derailing from my initial point, focusing on technicalities and distracting from the meat of what I was saying. It doesn’t matter if Sansa has her period or not, or a developed chest or not, or all sorts of other secondary sexual characteristics. What does matter is if she is 13 or 16, she still has the sheltered mind of a child. Any relationship between her and Littlefinger or the Hound is really, really sick and perverted and twisted and I think that any romanticism of such relationships is frankly disgusting. I’m surprised that people here post such thoughts without shame.

Besides which, even if a girl can technically conceive, it doesn’t mean that she out to or is a full grown woman, since often girls get their periods before their hip structures have properly aligned to make birthing children easier. And even if her body matures, it doesn’t mean her mind has.
