With all the excitement of these new videos, we’ve forgotten our first love — photos. Remember those days when a new photo was worth its own post and generated hundreds of comments? Yeah, those were the days.
Over the past week or so, HBO has snuck a bunch of new photos onto the web, almost under our noses. But thanks to some eagle-eyed readers we’ve been able to capture them and add them into our Image gallery. But for those who don’t check the gallery regularly (shame on you!), we have a post highlighting these new photos. Click through to view them all!
That last photo of Sansa was discovered by Knurk and through our posting it on Twitter we were pointed by @vestnix to Canal+ Spain’s Game of Thrones Facebook page which is where it originated from. Poking around on there, I found that Canal+ has recently released a number of new, never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photos, including an awesome one of the Sky Cell set!

I know this may be sacrilidge and all, but I have sorta been stepping back from everything but the cursory glances at GRRM’s not a blog, this site and Westeros – just in case of something really really really big – as the time has gone on, one picture, and i was creaming my pants, but now that the promotions and all are stepping up their game with the Featuretts and all teh new photos and Maesters path and all that, I just don’t want to get too saturated… I mean, I get all the advertising and promotions and all that to garner new members to the audience, but hell, they had me at “HBO will be producing George RR Martins…..

Lex, yes, we covered the MGoT post in our previous post. I think all the behind-the-scenes ones were posted yesterday by Canal+.

Pantene Pro Ve, love that hair!

The neckless looks amazing, it would be great if there was like some small panting of Jamie or Joanna in there.

Thank you for this post.

If that is a Sky Cell set I’m not too keen on design – it is too big and decorated for a prison cell IMHO.

Why does Sansa look so cool? She’s not supposed to be cool!

Chicago Chris,
I’m with you there. I still check each new thing, but with diminishing returns. The only thing to cure this fix is the real product at this point, and with too much hype it could make even that pale from what it should be.
salukQuote Reply
Ewa Nowak,
Remember the Sansa video though? She only looks cool until she opens her mouth! Hahaha. Then the vapid, phoney, superficial Sansa Stark that we all know and love comes out. ;)

I’m in love with the maps…I really hope they will sell them as merchandise at some point!

The Jon and Dany ones are beautiful…makes me excited for ADwD. I guess this time the casting for a book adaption is so good that I won’t mind if the actor’s faces replace my mental image while reading. Some of them even nearly ARE my mental image.

agor, no problem! We try to post everything of interest, it’s just sometimes we don’t know whether we should make a whole new post for one or two new pics of characters we’ve seen a lot of already, and in turn bump down a big news post. Most of the time, it makes more sense to let the big news post stay visible at the top and collect these smaller news items into a separate post for slower news days. To keep up-to-date with every small bit of news as it releases, keep an eye on our Twitter feed.

as a unrelated note to all these great images being released… I’m pleased to say that the HBO UK & Ireland webstore is now stocking the GoT Houses t-shirts previously only available in the US stores.
Got me a Baratheon, Greyjoy and Arryn on their way :)

It is funny how times have changed. At one time we’d have been pouring over the map photo looking for every detail and screaming “the Horn of Winter!” at the props photo. Loving them all.
Like others have voice a week or so ago I was concerned with saturation of info and wanted to back away from all the media output however after being off line for a long weekend I came back and watched it all. It’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind after all ;)
@ezeqiel thanks for the heads up re the tshirts in the UK. Now to sit and decide!

I agree. I pictured them smaller and grungier too.
dizzy_34Quote Reply
Is it just me or is Mord really short? Like only a little taller that Tyrion. Maybe they’re taking the “I’ve finally got someone smaller than me to boss around” angle.

The shot of the two helmets – does anyone know who they belong to? I don’t recognize them from any previous shots/clips, and I’d be interested to know.

FYI, a good interview with Tom McCarthy at the AV club that goes into some more detail about why he left the series. Nothing that hasn’t been guessed already (“it’s not really a director’s medium”), but I found it interesting.

I’m bummed that the Dothraki are not more dark skinned. Didn’t GRRM describe them as more dark, than Mediterranean?
As a “person of color” I liked the fact that his world, although drawn on medeival Europe, had what I would consider some brothers “up in Westeros.”
LOL.
HollyoakQuote Reply
Hollyoak,
I thought they were described as having ‘olive’ skin, which is pretty much in line with what they went with in the show. I might be misremembering, of course.

Maxwell James,
A great find. Nice to get confirmation on this.

Winter Is Coming,
That makes perfect sense, I completely understand. But it would still be nice to get posts like this one every now and then.
agorQuote Reply
OhDanyBoy,
You may be right on that. I’ll have to find the passage where they are first described in the books.

Great shots. and great vids, im totally convinced with PD after accent gate.
Slightly OT question I was hoping someone could help me with. im was checking the cast page to see if the photos updated and what our ensemble looks like, and i noticed berric donarrion was cast?!?! is this just as a background extra or can we expect to get dialogue ?
Thanks

Hollyoak,
The dark-skinned people I remember from ASOIAF are the people from The Summer Islands, where Jalabhar Xho comes from, and Yi Ti. The Dothraki are copper-skinned.

Some photos are more colorful or rather less grey than former photos – for example “Catelyn at Godswood” and “Ned at Execution”. I would be happy if the used more colours in the Winterfell-scenes, because sometimes it is a bit too grey.
Yes, its’s good for the atmosphere, but the story is already dark enough – a few more colours -> more impressive pictures. Just my opinion.
However, the series will be great.

Really stoked to be in the world famous WIC gallery. I have been so lucky with the six days filming I was involved in for the first season. So far I have spotted myself in six photos and three of the recent videos. I am so proud to be a part of the Game of Thrones phenomenon. Hope season two proves equally as fruitfull. Bring it on!

As long as the floor slopes, ever so slightly, that is all that matters! Also, maybe that is a deluxe skycell, since Tyrion is a Lannister and all.
So much amazing stuff the last few days!

Too beautiful, too rich, too amazing. Sophie is a gorgeous young lady. Maisie emotes with her whole face. They both have successful careers ahead of them.
The details! Cersei’s necklace is amazing! Jon Snow/Kit – I just can’t look away. I’m gonna filk ‘Let It Snow’ for Jon. No one can stop me!

Gold Cloaks I think, just without the chain mail visors.
The guy who plays Beric is a fully trained actor so not just an Extra. We found out about him when he tweeted that he had enjoyed filming his scenes. Check the photo’s on his IMDB page. How much he will be in the show and what lines he has remain to be seen. Even in the Books Beric only has a couple of lines in AGoT IIRC.
Post from back in November
