For those that want to know what the reward is:
A clip of GRRM himself congratulating you on becoming a Maester and telling you to choose allegiance. You get to pick amongst 15 Houses and picking one downloads a pack of wallpapers for your computer and a bunch of i-stuff. You can download them all if you want. Imo the wallpapers HBO has already given us are much nicer, but these at least offer more House choices.

Maesters are assigned a castle or keep, and have allegiance to the House who rules that land. The Targaryen’s hold no lands in Westeros, so a maester cannot swear allegiance to them.
Or, that’s the way I interpreted it, anyway :)

In the series, have the Maester’s chains been changed to belts? I thought I saw ring-like links on Luwin’s belt in one shot (or was it Aemon?) which explains why shots that only show them from the chest up don’t show a chain.
If they have, I don’t really care; it doesn’t change their significance, but I am curious.

I thought that the reward here was pretty weak compared to the others but to be honest I don’t care. As far as I am concerned the Maester’s path stuff ended two weeks ago. (the puzzles were half the fun, getting acolytes = meh)

If one more person posts about how they need novices in a thread entirely devoted to people that have already done the rest of the Maester’s path I am going to flip my lid. I have two words for you people: low yield! Think it through!
If you need ideas of where to go to get acolytes: reviews of the series on other sites, your facebook page, your friends and family, pretty much anywhere but a post 100% filled with people who have already signed up.
(if you really desperately need to see that video of George talking to you and download the sigil packs and don’t have any friends or the ability to actually advertise this in places that aren’t already devoted to it just make some fake email addresses! They don’t even need to point anywhere!)

What I found a little disappointing about the reward was the lack of house mottos for some of the houses. I know that not many mottos are known from the books but couldn’t they have just contacted GRRM and gotten something from him? Also, where was House Manwoody or House Jordayne of the Tor?

HBO..hire some better designers for the heraldry. The Clegane dogs look like monster alien dogs. Wheres the nose?…I really dont think some of these were referenced or researched. *sigh* And some did a great job.

THe problem was, the overall HBO design looks quite like an angry dog, with a broad thick muzzle and thin neck. This was my attempt at a slight alteration to make it more wolf-like. Ears back don’t always equate to aggression. Sometimes its submission or fear. I just went with a classic known wolf ear position in art. And the biggest problem is that the ear looks very odd on the original. All small and curled, where a wolfs is very triangular and stout, not to mention above the eye.
Now thinking of it. I might go back and make the ear a little bigger. And the muzzle taper to to the nose more.
I still like the original. It just harder to see “wolf” in the silhouette of the direwolf head sigil. *shrug*
