Quick Hits on a Friday! (Is anyone even out there?) (Besides me I mean.) We’re getting a few nice finds from a WiC ghost contributor I like to call “Bad Bart,” and more than a few of these are his finds.
FaBio is on another podcast! BOOMTRON (formerly The BSC Review) discusses Game of Thrones Episode 3, “Lord Snow” in Boomtron Podcast #5. His Royal FaBulousness (simply called “Tobias” here) joins Darth Rachel and Elena Nola in discussing episode 3 as well as fake eyelashes, nerd bars, football, the Ender’s Game movie, and other weird tangents.
FaB had a blast! Obviously. But he will lose the war vs. fake eyelashes, just like he is losing the war vs. indigo. Pity him!
World of Warcraft geeks know what’s what. Here’s a You Tube presentation of A Song of Ice and Fire as told through the eyes of … Leeroy Jenkins, I guess. Leeeeeeroy JENKINS! There are ASoIaF SPOILERS throughout this bizarre skit! NOT SAFE for n00bs!
Leeeroy Jenkins! (Only WoW players will get how funny this is.)
Speaking of videos, here’s an old commercial from the ’80′s: Don’t Wake The Dragon! I … have never heard of this game.
One has to wonder if that somehow subconsciously didn’t enter the mind of GRRM. Though it’s also just good advice in general.
Trivia Quizzes! The Los Angeles Times has Game of Thrones episodes quizzes. If you get more than two wrong, you are automatically banned from our site and sent to Tower of the Hand for a refresher.
It’s slightly easy.
More reviews! Airlock Alpha‘s Bryant L. Griffin has a really nice review of “Lord Snow,” as does TVfanatic.com. Also, Reading Eagle has a nice overall impression of GoT (“paying off” indeed).
Of course we love that they love it.
Jason is Conan! Here’s an article featuring a new trailer for Conan the Barbarian, starring Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa, brought to us by RopeofSilicon.com
Crom!
Finally… more podcasts! Screened.com has a Behind The Screened Door review Podcast that features Game of Thrones among many other things. The Game of Thrones stuff isn’t a lot, so if that’s all you’re looking for I’d skip it. But the guys who produce it seem like pros. They sure have a better mics than I do. Another can be found at Casually Hardcore. They have their own review of Game of Thrones amongst other things. Game of Thrones talk starts at the 1:34 hour mark, and they talk about it for all of… about a minute. Please note that these podcasts are not in any way ‘Thronescentric, so you have to get through all the other stuff first. It’s a little like talk radio. And it’s 2 hours long.
Fire And Blood: You’ve been warned. I can’t get those 2 hours back in my life. If I had my druthers I’d just keep following the far-less professional and much-more vicious A Podcast of Ice and Fire. But that’s me.
EDIT: One thing I forgot to add while I was sprinting for the door was the link to Gestalt Mash and the ultra-cool Playin’ with Ice and Fire articles they do. It’s literally as good as—if not better than—rereading A Game of Thrones yourself. Some really good discussions usually pop up from there as well. Worth a gander if you’ve never read it. You can start at the beginning for the PROLOGUE, or go to the latest one, EDDARD (Chapter 25).
Right now they’re paced ahead of the TV show, but that’s bound to catch ‘em sooner or later. I read this shit religiously.

First? Looking forward to that podcast, Fabioso. BTW, new comic by me tonight at House Half Assed.

I got question 2 of the LA Times ep 3 quiz wrong…. but that is only because there are technically two correct answers. And I picked the “wrong” one.

I need to get more sleep before I read new Quick Hits. It looked to me as if FaBio had weighed in on the whole BCS NCAA football bowl game controversy. I was flabbergasted. Then confused. Then mildly embarrassed. /facepalm
And yay! Absolutely wonderful that we now have the ability to edit our comments! You guys are great.

They have one guy who is a huge fan of the book and one who hasn’t read them and I think they have a nice dynamic between them.

Those quizzes were beyond ridiculous. Some answers were wrong even if you only saw the show.

So according to the quizzes the starks pray to the Seven? I think not!

Conor,
And Dany actually believed that Dragons came from the moon!
Thomas KristQuote Reply
Winter Is Coming,
Yeah, Winter, the Ep 1 quiz asks who Robert MOST wanted to visit while at Winterfell, and, apparently, it’s Lyanna. Really? Is that why he traveled to Winterfell, because he wanted to make Lyanna his new Hand? Oh wait… That’s pretty lousy wording, if you ask me.
Cutter Allen KilgoreQuote Reply
Conor,
Yeah, that question is just flat wrong. You don’t even have the option of selecting ‘Old Gods,’ and I’m not sure if anyone knows the actual numerical value of the old gods.
Cutter Allen KilgoreQuote Reply
Don’t wake the dragon was an alright, but gimmicky game for kids.
I played it when I was a kid
When you land on certain squares, you’d press a button on the board, and it would shake. If the “egg” fell off your penguin’s head, you had to sneak back past the dragon and get it again.
Totally skill-less game.
Ax0rQuote Reply
Also, it seems that one of those “seasoned Song of Ice and Fire fanatics” over at tvfanatics would like to see more of “GreyMist” at “Winterfel” (sic.)

FaB – back from Thor! (Better than I thought it would be. I gave it a B.)
Yeah, I was going to add the fact that two of the questions were basically wrong, and few more were slightly vague, but I was hitting “publish” as I was running out the door.
Langkard,
I support a college football playoff! Who in their right mind wouldn’t?
Fire And BloodQuote Reply
Argh, yeah, I’m also annoyed by the ‘number of gods the Starks pray to’ question. Ned prays to the old gods, Cat to the Seven, the kids I’m not really sure but probably both or neither as they choose. That was made clear in the first episode, let alone the books.

Hee hee. I actually still have Don’t Wake the Dragon, and yes, it was the first thing I thought of when Viserys started spouting his catchphrase. It’s a good thing that the character’s supposed to be fairly ridiculous, ‘cuz I wouldn’t have been able to take him seriously after that.

Apologies if I look like I want to pretend I’m a professional reviewer, which I’m not, but my reviews of the GOT eps are growing longer for every ep, and the “recap” thread has sunk too low, so linking to my blog is quicker. Here is my review for GOT E3. Enjoy!

Lol
4. Queen Cersei and Ser Jaime Lannister are …
A. Lovers
B. Siblings
C. Co-conspirators
D. All of the above
What a nice way to put this.
And
1. How many children does Lord Eddard Stark have?
A. 4
B. 5 (Your answer was incorrect)
C. 6 (Choice “C” is the correct answer)
D. 7
Boy, they’ve got that one wrong, hehe
Seems they’ve also got this wrong:
5. How many gods do the Starks pray to?
A. Three
B. Five
C. Seven
D. Twelve
I suppose they’re confusing the Starks with the southrons here, since it certainly hasn’t been mentioned in the show how many the old gods are, and I don’t think it has ever been mentioned in the books either.
This one’s weird as well:
9. Where does Daenerys Targaryen say dragons come from?
A. The moon
B. Beyond the Wall
C. Westeros
D. Dragonland
It’s not Dany who says that, although, she does say the words “The moon?” questioningly.
I disagree with the wording of this question:
5. Who was the last owner of the dagger used to attack Bran?
A. Lord Tyrion Lannister. (Choice “A” is the correct answer)
B. Lord Peter Baelish (Your answer was incorrect)
C. Lady Lysa Arryn.
D. Ser Jorah Mormont.
According to Littlefinger Tyrion is the current owner, making Petyr the last (previous) owner. Although, perhaps I should have taken the fact that they got the name wrong as a givaway that that wasn’t the desired answer, since there is no Peter Baelish.
Also,
I’m not a WoW player, but I am however familiar with the Leeroy Jenkins video. It’s classic.
