I’m just assuming that Ned is going to bite the dust this week, and I hope that is all that goes wrong, because i’m very invested in Robb Stark at this point, even though last week’s episode was like the very first one we saw him being focused in. Go Robb Stark! Take on Jamie Lannister and leave Tywin confused! Where are the Baratheons?? They need to show up!

I’m both excited for and dreading this episode. I’m excited to see the battle, because I’m just loving Robb getting pumped for battle. Also, very cool shot up there of Tyrion. Still, I’m House Stark so I shall always root for the Starks. :)

When Ned said to Jon “we’ll talk about your mother next time we meet”, or when Ned kissed Catelyn goodbye, those scenes were tough to watch. Those of us who know what happens… I can’t help but think, “what if?” I know these things have to happen, but I’m really going to have a rough time saying goodbye to Ned.

Also Khal Drogo has grown on me these last couple episodes. And poor Dany’s baby. I wonder if they’ll show the still born monster.

I can’t wait to see new episode.

    Ed,

Dany is utterly unprotected once Drogo falls of his horse. Jorah has to keep her from being murdered, carried off as some new Khal’s prize, or hauled off to Vaeys Dothrak. For that, he might have to fight off some Dothraki, and we’ve been told Arak’s aren’t much good against plate so it’s a damn good idea. Also she is hurt because MMD’s ritual kills her baby.

I’m not holding my breath for a big battle scene… and I doubt anyone else should be either.

I have a feeling we’re going to get a handful of people beating each other up, and a lot of sound effects and close camera angles to try and sell a “big” battle.

Anyone see Rome? Their “big battles” pretty much happened entirely off screen.

I’m still wondering how the hell they’re going to do the Battle of the Blackwater in season two without making a complete mockery of it?

Don’t get me wrong, I love GoT… but that scene (and any big battle scenes) are going to be a HUGE thing to overcome given a TV budget.

    Remy,

It’s going to be in Sundays episode. Here’s the summary With Sansaʼs life in danger, Ned makes a fateful decision. Catelyn brokers an unsavory deal with the slippery Walder Frey. Tyrion acquires a mistress and is forced by his father to fight on the front lines. Robb wins his first major victory and captures a prized prisoner. Jon is rewarded for his valor and discovers a dark secret about Maester Aemon. As Drogoʼs wound festers, Dany defies his bloodrider Qotho and puts her trust in the enslaved witch Mirri Maz Duur.

I’ve been thinking about the timing of the last 2 episodes… My guess is that Drogo will not die until the final episode but we will certainly see the shit hit the fan in Drogo’s clan. I think the episode will end with Drogo in his dazed state and Dany will finish him off in ep. 10.

I am certain the episode ends with Ned dead in the final moments. Jamie will be captured early in the episode to build up the thought that they won’t kill Ned because they have Jamie captive. I am both looking foward to and dreading this episode, on a happy note we should finally meet Shae!

Hey Roel, give ‘em a little more credit than that. They can get creative.
I think you’re half right. Consider how we’ve seen Gregor Clegane and the Hound so far. Helmet on, helmet off. Visor up, visor down.
I loved the silliness in “Top Gun” where the fighter pilots kept ripping open their face masks to talk so we could see their expensive actors’ faces.
I think we’ll see some full helmets, some half helmets, some partly open ones, some helmets knocked off without injury, maybe a helmet lost or fogotten somehow. Consider it artistic license.

Yeah, I know why, it’s still just the most moronic thing you can do in a fight. Sadly, I just cannot suspend disbelief when I see it happen.

He has a beautiful set of armor custom made for his… unique dimensions… but it’s back at Casterly Rock. So he ends up wearing a mess of stuff roughly cobbled together at the last minute. The Hand’s Jerk,

Weeell i guess you could make a visibility argument for not wearing a helmet – maybe in a confusing melee it’s super important to see and hear in all directions (Dothraki don’t even use helmets period). However I must admit the reason is probably to allow the actors to act – and TBH I think that’s a pretty valid reason (I want to see them do their thing!).

Agreed. :( Love lurking a few comments and posts by non-readers on YouTube and boards, but the amount of spoilers I run into is alarming. It’s sad…most of the fans I know love these stories and are proud to spread them.

We all relish someone’s first read and are mum on spoilers, because we love to see their honest reactions. These spoilers obviously don’t have the same respect for the story, which is disappointing. I don’t personally get the mindset; they enjoyed the narrative themselves, then almost go outta their way to wreck orhers’ enjoyment of it. A shame.

Peter Vaughn is perfectly cast as Maester Aemon … I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since his awesome Eugene Helpmann in Brazil. He’s not had a lot of screen time so far, though the “make no mention of his nose” line last week was a priceless addition, and fantastically delivered.

His conversation with Jon about his family and past, for me, is one of the most profound and interesting parts of GoT. I had no idea it was coming in the books and it just added so much to the depth of the story, showing the different ways that concern for honor and sacrifice can manifest in this complex world.

I can’t wait to see this scene, with Kit Harrington having done such an awesome job portraying Jon Snow so far… playing off against one of the all time great master character actors.

For the record, if any of you Dinklage fans have not yet seen the original British version of the movie “Death at a Funeral” you should check it out:

He’s in the 2010 version too, but the original is better IMO, AND Peter Vaughn has a cameo as ‘Uncle Alfie’ in that one. I’d suggest renting it to help make the long wait for season two a little more bearable. :)

I think he is. I freezed the image, and despite it being blurry, I think that the shoulderplate looks quite like a lion’s head. You can check Jaime’s armor back at Ep.7 and compare. It seems we have the Battle of the Whispering Wood in the next episode. I had thought it would go in the last, and the Green Fork in this one.

    Chris,

So far they have done a good job of portraying Tyrion without some of the gimmickry in Martin’s books. I am hoping they keep the part where he accidentally takes a prisoner by goring the knight’s horse with his spiked helm. I have a feeling they probably will. I am also betting that they keep the POV of the battle just on Tyrion and the van and not the entire battle much like the book.

Game of Thrones Cast at Monte Carlo

Its pretty impressive since this is the kind of shallow blogger that focuses mainly on gossip, celebrity coupling and fashion…which is why she criticizes NCW’s posture being “dorky” (I personally don’t agree lol). Also interesting that her prediction for Ned is pretty accurate as a non-bookreader. She also declared in her TV liveblog that if Ned is killed off, she’ll be loyal to GoT forever because it is a very brave thing to do. So yeah…I’d say the show is doing a good job attracting viewers!

More happens after Ned’s death than I remembered from earlier readings, so I think there’ll be plenty of material for Episode 10 (Jon kinda sorta deserting, King in the North, all the rippling effects of Ned’s death; and then the dragons–there’s actually a lot there).

I’m also guessing we’ll have a scene of Arya with Yoren’s merry band–technically from Clash of Kings, but it makes dramatic sense rather than ending her story as abruptly as it’s done in Game of Thrones. And didn’t they cast Hot Pie and Lommy?

This will definitely be the best episode of the series, I’m just a little bit concerned about the fighting scenes as some already mentioned. It will have to focus on the smaller fights like Rome did, but I hope they show some nice expanded shots of the whole fight for people to get an idea.
That’s an axe on Tyrion’s right hand, right? It would be so lame if he used a sword instead. Also, that helmet accident scene would be so much fun to watch, I really hope they put that in the episode!

I really hope they include this Bronn/Tyrion exchange or at least a version of it. Its definitely one of my book 1 favorites:

Bronn tossed the longsword from his right hand to his left, and tried a cut. “Who’d want to kill the likes of you?”
“My lord father, for one. He’s put me in the van.”
“I’d do the same. A small man with a big shield. You’ll give the archers fits.”
“I find you oddly cheering,” Tyrion said. “I must be mad.”

READ THE BOOKS! The story is awesome I started reading book 1 after episode 4 I am already halfway through the 3rd book and you have no idea of the excitement, twist and turns this story takes.
I also recommend reading the books because HBO is notorious for ending a series such as this ( period piece with elaborate sets and wardrobe) in the middle or given a speedy wrap up without fully fleshing out the story as originally planned i.e. Rome and Deadwood.
The story is a great one, one that deserves a full telling. So….READ THE BOOKS! You wont be disappointed

I can’t wait to see the execution scene in the next episode. It’s going to be so raw – or at least it should be. I will never forgive them if they mess it up. Because the thing is, in the book, it’s actually presented fairly tamely because of the POV taken. It’s Arya watching the execution, she’s kind of far back in the crowd, and it’s all about her thoughts… and then Yoren grabs her, and makes her look away. But on the show, they can (AND SHOULD) put the camera right up on the steps of the Sept of Baelor. Then we get to see Joffrey up close as he pronounces his “mercy,” the confusion on Ned’s face that melts into defeat, the confusion on Sansa’s face as that melts into hysterics as she starts screaming, but she can’t do anything as Ser Ilyn steps forward… God, it gives me the shivers just thinking about it. They HAVE to do it right.

I agree with you, and you do have your timeline correct, that is how it should go down.

one thing I have been thinking of though…I don’t know if I could handle seeing Sean Beans head rolling across the ground and landing face up like they did in the prologue. I don’t know, it seems kind of…disrespectful to our “hero,” and I hope their treatment of him as such is a bit more…respectful. I’m not adverse to any of the violence or stuff we’ve seen so far..but it’s NED, and I don’t know, I can’t explain it, I just don’t want it to be way over the top graphic. It’s so strange, I’ve known this moment was coming all season long, and now that it’s almost here…I’ve had a lump in my throat and a hallow, sick feeling all week. I’ve even broken out into tears a couple times, that’s how bad I’ve been feeling about this weeks episode. SEEING it is so much more visceral than reading about it, and my passion for the story has really made my emotions bubble to the surface quite a few times these last 8 weeks!

In the show it hasn’t been made clear whether Tywin knows about the incest. However, Jaime is a sworn member of the Kingsguard, and as such cannot marry or inherit (much like the Night’s Watch members). So Tywin knows that Jaime can’t marry or have his own (legitimate) children, and is out of the line of inheritance. It is because Jaime joined the Kingsguard that his younger brother Tyrion is the heir of the Lannister house.

As a member of the Kingsguard, Jaime’s taken an oath of celibacy. So he can’t marry. Which is actually a point of contention between him and his father, as Tywin has NO intention of allowing Tyrion to inherit Casterly Rock. The impression I had was that Cersei and Jaime were at least as afraid of Tywin finding out, as they were of Robert.

How does Tywin expect the Lannister name to carry on? Does he then expect that Tyrion will marry and have children? I guess not only does he resent Tyrion because his birth caused the death of his wife but also because he’s grown up to be such a party animal as opposed to concerning himself with family lineauge issues;-)

    Janice,

Tywin’s first preference is for Jaime to leave the Kingsguard. And now that Ser Barristan’s been retired, there’s a precedent. However, if Tywin doesn’t wind up with a suitable grandson, he has at least one brother–Kevan–and one of Kevan’s sons would inherit the title. Perhaps Lancel, Robert’s former squire.

First, the last shot of the last episode I think should be the comet. Unless that’s the thing in the sky during the credits. :)

Second, The Three Eyed Crow during Bran’s dream. There’s been two scenes and I have an idea where they are going with that. Episode ten may start with Bran talking or seeing Ned in the crypt. Maybe Rickon is there as well. Which makes that a pretty great foreshadowing tool, if you don’t mind me saying.

Third, maybe I missed it somewhere, but did that minor character that dies in book three that is supposed to die this season, die yet?

This is strictly book related at this point..but I’m wondering if we ever find out what happened to the Lannister who set to sea to go and find a valyrian steel great- sword for his family. He’s been referred to only casually ,so far..and then there’s the one who’s missing in battle…

There’s a theory in tower of the hand about him.
