It definitely seems like Sean Bean’s been given the lowdown on Jon’s parentage, and accidentally ended up confirming it.

How on earth are they gonna reveal that? The flashbacks belonged in season 1. :<

    From Salon:

Bottom line: This was the best first season of a cable series, and surely the best first season finale, since “Deadwood” back in 2004. Each scene and moment seemed to have been carved out of wood, and they all tied up old business while setting the stage for new business. Season 2 is scheduled for April, 2012. Hurry up, spring

    I think he likes it.

…they’ve [D&D] managed to do something, in retrospect, very difficult: to tell a story that involves people who are hundreds of miles apart, some of whom have never met, and yet make it casually clear that this is all the same big tale.

Great guy but also great that the show has conveyed some of these slightly subtler points.

    Say whaaaaat?

I think that’s further confirmation in my mind of the suspicion there’s a handful of ‘Unsullied’ at TWOP who have actually read the books. Almost guiding along discussion, or something.

How can they do S=J if J has not even been named yet in the context of the first season? Even if they’re just guessing the hooded third prisoner is S–that is a fantastic leap in logic for a brief few seconds of scene.

Any real non-book viewer in my mind who sees the prisoners shouldn’t even be sure which of the riff raff are significant–minus Hot Pie and Lommy at this point who bully Arya, there are so many of them being carted north. From that to even suggesting, ‘Hooded guy is S?’ I call BS!

It looks to me Sean more or less confirmed R+L=J, yes. If you add the “you might not have my name, but you have my blood” from the show to “Through no fault of his own, Ned took on a lot by taking Jon in” and then some… we know he definitely has got Stark’s blood but he’s also not Ned’s, so he must be Lyanna’s… I wasn’t sure about that theory before although it made sense, now I’d be surprised if it’s not, unless Sean was deliberately misleading us or there was a qui-pro-quo somewhere.

Larry cooled off a lot for this final review ;-) He really got the character of The Hound so even if he didn’t have much screen time, the essential was there, a tribute to D&D. It was a great review Larry by the way, see you next year!

Is anybody else still reading the Unspoiled Speculation thread on TelevisionWithoutPity? Is it just me or is that “Jimmy Cokes” guy such an obvious book reader pretending to be an observant viewer? He even raised the possibility that the cloaked night’s watch prisoner is Syrio.

It’s fun to read newbies speculate but when guys like that are dropping hints its pretty annoying since you’ll never know what sort of crazy theories they’ll really come up with.

I thought the exact same. I read that post earlier today and it seemed like he was 3 for 3 in predicting non-obvious events from next season AND hinted at S=J.
It kinda puts me off the whole thread. There are 2 or three on there that I suspect are Book Readers, but most at least try to but a wrong guess in there to blend in.

However, I go back there because there is at least one I am pretty sure isn’t a reader. I like the way she interprets things, they are usually wrong, but the theories themselves are sound and interesting to watch.

    Lex,

Exactly! In fact, the times when he gets it wrong is because it hasn’t been made clear in the series yet or just barely mentionned and there is a lot to digest. Even when reading the books, I had to go to the appendixes more than once to make it quite clear in my head. For example, we haven’t even really seen the river lords and yet Larry has clearly registered them and their impact. Ok, the whole thing with the baby is not quite right but I remember myself thinking along those lines as well until the MMD part which clarifies it, a part that is not in the episode. To me, it’s a tribute to D&D that they managed to condensate the essential, and Larry proves this.

I think WiC said he might do a bit of coverage on the books but considering shooting starts next month there’s tons of coverage this site can do till then (including con converage). We waited for years while the show wasn’t even approved, a year long wait will be cake by comparison. Besides book 5 will make it that much more easier!

Here’s a review of a recently finished book reader/ TV watcher, though i’m not sure he was reading the write book. He criticises Martin for apparently not having a grand scheme for his series, even though it’s not even finished. Then laughably uses the opinion of Ginia Bellafante to emphasize his argument that the series doesn’t have an encompassing issue but is merely an account of some fictionalized history.

i followed the non reader speculation from post to post and i am pretty sure they really are unspoiled.

the theory about syrio just went like “they didnt show that guys face – there must be a reason – maybe someone we know – lets see, who could it be…..” and then wishful thinking about arya and her dancing teacher beeing reuninited.

why i am so sure about them beeing unspoiled? its not about about what they do figure out, but what they ALSO speculate about – sometimes trying to make something out of scenes that are utterly unimportant etc.

also, lets not forget the show isnt the books. some things come over more easily, other are not even mentioned. they very much stressed the importance of hair colour in the series as well as the question of jons parentage. so the theory about jon being “black of hair” makes him a baratheon comes to them naturally.

i was suspicious of “ulle” in the start. but following his posts i never noticed any mistake revealing he has more knowledge than the others.

also, lets not forget the show isnt the books. some things come over more easily, other are not even mentioned. they very much stressed the importance of hair colour in the series as well as the question of jons parentage. so the theory about jon being “black of hair” makes him a baratheon comes to them naturally.

i was suspicious of “ulle” in the start. but following his posts i never noticed any mistake revealing he has more knowledge than the others.

I don’t think all of them are spoiled (though it would be funnier if it turns out all of them were bookreaders in disguise) but there are at least 3 posters that I’m 99% sure are pretenders.
The first guy who drew attention to Jon’s parentage certainly since he mentioned that and never posted again.
‘Direwolfgirl’ – named after an animal we rarely saw on the show and was one of the first people offended when someone implied that there were readers masquerading in the thread.
And ‘Jimmy Cokes’ who was asking people to congratulate him for predicting Drogo’s death. Not to mention bringing up the ridiculous Syrio theory (that he brought up before anyone even noticed the hooded guy in the cage) which made no sense from the TV show perspective.

And I think I’m spending waaay too much time on the internets:) I’m out!

hahaha I had to post my reaction somewhere, I just saw the One and a Half Man parody thing.

HOLY DAVOS THAT WAS SOME FUNNY SHIT!!! OH HALFMAN THAT WAS GOOD!!

Back on topic, I liked seeing the twitter reactions about GoT from all those people from other shows. That was cool. We need more famous people talking about this show. I know they mentioned it on Conan the other day. Any other instances? This is important because celebrities tell dumb people what to do.

Now if you’ll excuse me I need to apply some proactive…

I don’t think Sean Bean was conferming r+l=jbut more stating he believes it and worked that into his Ned since he did read the book.

The Sean Bean quote might be taken out of context. When he says that part about ” Ned took on a lot by taking Jon in” , he could still be talking about it as if he was the true father. How many other Lords in the books have allowed for their Bastard children to live with them, especially when they have a close relationship with their wives? We know that the Freys have a bastard or two, but most other bastards are either fostered elsewhere or live out in the world (like Robert’s).

Everyone wanted Syrio to live! It makes sense that they might see a mysterious person travelling with Arya and hope ‘maybe? just maybe?’ And we know the reason he’s hooded is because they haven’t cast Jaqen yet, but from a fresh point of view the natural reaction is, “Who’s hiding?”

Also, Yoren says ‘Stay away from those,’ to Arya. I think the people in the cage are very noticeable. One thinks, ‘what the hell did they do, if rapists and thieves get to walk and they have to be in a CAGE?!’

Sadly, I think these people are weird losers not to get angry over, but to be pitied. My take is they are craving and seeking some sort of acknowledgment or kudos from anonymous people on the internet when they’re ‘right.’ That they’re spoiling the show for some people is just an unfortunate consequence, secondary to their need for attention, a “Wow man, you’re on fire!”

Cavegirl: Thanks for posting this video, even if i’ve already watched it. I like reading interviews and watching video interviews of Jason Momoa, cause they are always funny.
I also liked the EW interview and especially his reaction :
“I was reading it and I was like: ‘Holy s–t! F–k, I’m dead!’”
    This is so Jason.
And it seems he misses to have the chance to meet again all the other cast and crew members in July. They must have had a great time together as you can read in interviews of the other cast members too.
Otherwise i’m glad for him to be busy again in September.

Yeah I sure will miss him on the show. Watched him for years on Stargate Atlantis and as soon as I heard that he would play Khal Drogo and Conan I was like “awesome, perfect for those roles!”. Even though I havent read the books, from what I heard about Khal Drogo being a big fierce warrior leader, I knew he would be perfect based on what he did on Stargate Atlantis.

    Kalasin,

Kalasin: I didn’t read it that way at all.I think he was just acknolwedging the theory.I highly doubt GRRM has told any of the cast.I’m pretty sure, based on past interviews, that he hasn’t told Kit, so why Sean?

Because Ned knows and Jon doesn’t. Simple as that, the reason to tell Sean is so he could use that knowledge in the way he plays the character, while there’s no reason for Kit to know.

    Magus,

Eh, I don’t agree with his point, but I kind of understand where he’s coming from. I wouldn’t call it a terrible review. If he feels that way he feels that way. The novels ARE a bit more like a historical chain of events than most novels, I just consider that a positive more than a negative. I love history, not only for the “it really happened part”, but also the dynamicism. It’s obvious (and we know from interviews etc) that GRRM is also a history buff. So this definitely colors his writing. You kind of get out what you put in.

    SugarVampire,
Other than Dinklage’s accent, I agree with a lot of the things she said. She changed her tune as the show went on because it got better. I think most of us on here agree that the show got better as it went along. For it to have gotten better, that meant it had room for improvement. Her early less then superlative reviews of episodes 1-4 demonstrated some of the areas it could improve. Most of the ways in which the show got better fit what she was saying early on. Especially these last few episodes. Each one CLEARLY had a major theme which all of the action was staged around, which was her major negative point.

    Steve the Pirate,

Agreed. And I know Lyons hasn’t read the books but she must not pay attention to the show either because if she did she would know it’s a direwolf on Jon’s sword and not a polar bear.

Also, thanks for posting all the HBO Go videos as well!

Just wanted to share in case there are peeps out there that don’t follow Lena Headey’s facebook page (and I’m sure there are). She posted tonight some of her thoughts..

“Face bookers .. What about the f’in DRAGONS … Holy fuck balls!!!
Emilia Clarke was glorious .. Sophie turner as sansa brought incredible depth to the character in one of my favorite scenes with Joffrey on the roof with the severed heads (my SCREEN son is such a little shit ;) …”
