While we have finally received confirmation of filming to be conducted in both Croatia and Iceland later this year, the filming continues in Northern Ireland. Some of the actors that have been in town these past few days include Finn Jones, Maisie Williams, Eros Vlahos, Ben Hawkey, Alfie Allen, Gemma Whelan, and Sophie Turner.
Last week, there was four days of filming at Ballintoy Harbour, according to this Belfast Telegraph article. Based on reports from the set, we know that a number of different scenes were shot in the area, all of them set on the Greyjoy’s homeland of Pyke. Alfie Allen was spotted on set with a character believed to be Aeron Greyjoy, but other trusted sources have confirmed that this character is NOT the Damphair. It seems he is some nameless priest of the Drowned God, fulfilling the role that Aeron fulfilled in the book. Whether this means Aeron has been cut from this season is unknown, but I’m guessing that he has been.
This week, the rumor is the production has moved to Murlough Bay (above) for filming. What they are filming there is unknown. Hopefully we will have more info on that soon.

This is fine by me. I love, love Aeron, but if we were meet a regular priest first, get familiar with the order and religion, then unveiling damphair next season will be more impactful.

so, are they done with the dragonstone scenes yet?

No Aeron? Mh. I really hope he’ll be introduced eventually in later seasons.

I live in Ballycastle which is the town between Ballintoy and Murlough Bay, as a Game of Thrones fan this is such an exciting time!

Davos tweeted that he ‘would be in Westeros before nightfall’ last Wednesday, so maybe they’ve been doing Dragonstone interior scenes at the Paint Hall too.
Nick LarterQuote Reply
I guess this works as a compromise. I wonder whether the random drowned priest will be characterised in the same fashion as Damphair or if they’ll change the character in some way.

Huh? Liam Cunnigham is on Twitter?
To answer your quesiton Elena, they filmed some exterior Dragonstone scenes already (as evidenced by the statues of the Seven photos). One would assume while CvH was in town they filmed the interior scenes too. So I’m betting that the Dragonstone stuff is done.

I also live in Ballycastle close to where the filming took place. Also believe that some scenes were shot at a place called The Dark Hedges close to us. Google the name and check out the photos….it is a long avenue of 300 year old beech trees.

That pic looks a lil too pretty to be the Stoney Shore, but who knows? Or more Iron Islands scenes? Any word on ships in the bay?

Maybe Ian McShane was busy at the moment so they had to find a way to postpone the Damphair for S3 ;) if he is cut permanently I am pissed ( sorry BB, but I rather have them cut the Blackfish than Aeron), after building up the Greyjoy background that much in the last season, I had hoped for a faithful adaption, now we have Yara and possibly no Aeron:(

Who are Eros Vlahos and Ben Hawkey?
Ops, nevermind. Hot Pie and Lommy.

The other day, Eros posted a brilliant pic of Lommy and Arya between takes

I remember speculation when Season 1 was being filmed that they would use the Dark Hedges for something, I wonder what they have used it for.

Mormegil, my guess is a scene on Arya’s journey north.

Postponing Aeron until Season… 4? allows them to get a bigger name in the role, rather than have someone appear in a couple scenes this season, and then show up again in a season or two, after everyone has completely forgotten about him.
The same is true for Victarion as well, assuming he doesn’t get cast.
DrSwordopolisQuote Reply
So they must be about to cast Balon, yes? Or did I miss something?
Richard WeetabixQuote Reply
Richard Weetabix,
Conventional wisdom would suggest Balon has already been cast & HBO/GRRM just haven’t announced it yet, but its possible he has not yet been cast, if the actor is only doing interior scenes at the Paint Hall in Belfast.

“This is fine by me. I love, love Aeron…”
What is there to “love, love” about Aeron? He is INTENTIONALLY boring and lame.
To each his own I guess, but I’m amazed at reading these commentators who just positively adore all manner of minor, insignificant characters. Hot Pie, Blackfish, Jory Cassell, now Aeron Damphair…it’s so odd to me.
shadallionQuote Reply
DrSwordopolis,
I agree with your propositions, but in the future you need to hide your thoughts. Just highlight the naughty bits and press that big button marked spoiler. We shall all sleep easier.

Nick, that’s a super fun photo of the kids!
shadallion,
LOL While I can definitely understand where you’re coming from, I can hardly judge someone for loving a minor character. I’m a huge fan of Nymeria Sand, and I can’t even tell exactly why. I just really dig her presence and lines, and she’s barely a pivotal character.
I do have to say that I really enjoyed TV Jory, the actor had enough screen presence to make me feel for the character.
Hi-FiQuote Reply
Well, some people have a relationship with the Ice and Fire world and characters outside of the books as well. Aeron Damphair has always been a useful character in the collectible card game for example and a version of The Blackfish was a real beast that entire decks could be built around.
Also, what’s not to like about this guy: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jzf9TWn_L0Y/Tb3JUExgcTI/AAAAAAAAAAo/U24OvxolDyA/s1600/ffg_Aeron_Damphair_Ironborn.jpg

All this Iron Islands filming already being done is slowly killing my dream of Tim Roth as Victarion.

I don’t have a problem with replacing Aeron for this season…I mean, they didn’t bother casting all of the Kingsguard in the first season either.
They can’t do that too often, though, or it will seem like they’re only introducing characters just in time for them to be important…that’s one reason I’m glad we’ve already seen Beric.
stileQuote Reply
FishInABearsuit,
But Victarion doesn’t do anything in book 2 – he just barely shows up in one scene and hangs out in the background. It’d be quite easy for them to bump him to season 3, and if your Tim Roth dream came true they certainly wouldn’t want to cast such a big-name actor just for such a brief appearance now.

Hehe, I just signed up on Twitter and I seem to have found our Asha ( ugh, Yara of course)
@chastitybutter . Also I found it interesting that Cogman Is recently following Alan Tudyk. He follows Fillion as well, so he might simply be a firefly fan, but Tudyk would make n awesome Edmure as well:)
Chris77Quote Reply
mummer,
Too true I suppose. Tell me Tim Roth wouldn’t be perfect for the role though? He even bears a passing resemblance to Alfie Allen. Also, with his awesome show having been cancelled by those bastards at FOX he doesn’t have anything holding him up.

halfman,
Exactly; it might confuse people. I don’t think anything has been condensed, really. In fact, while reading the books I did not get the impression that the Damphair was such a revered figure until the latter books.

Well I like Dancer (Bran’s horse) and obviously he didn’t have any speaking lines whatsoever!! Even the most ‘insignificant’ characters add a bit to the story.

Speaking of the twats, you guys should make a directory of known twitter/facebook/etc accounts somewhere, so that we can follow them. Because I don’t know who’s real and who’s fake. :/ Or do you already have that somewhere I haven’t found??

FishInABearsuit,
I do like him a lot – not at all how I pictured the character (thought of Victarion as a bigger, stockier guy), but I could say the same about other actors on the show who were just fine.

In regards to Murlough Bay as a filming site its got alot to offer!
It has a great woodland (looks a bit like Fangorn Forest from LOTR, got some great pics of it but not online but think of old twisted trees and large boulders covered in mosses, lichens and ferns) which would the bill for a number of settings….
It has an very old ruined limestone church and a few ruined basalt cottages right upon the rocky shore
There are also a system of mines, although I can’t see much use for these other than for Lord Beric and co but there are finer cave systems throughout the North Coast, around Belfast’s Cave Hill and Fermanagh.
On top of Fair Head (the headland just above Murlough Bay) there is a lake with a Crannog in the centre of the lake which might have it’s uses (type in fair head crannog in google images to check it out)
Maybe someone else can think up the probable set from this info….?

Out for walk in County Down Northern Ireland. Much GOT activity locally for season 1 & now season 2. I now watch out for white on pink temporary road signs saying GOT for some idea of where the latest filming is going on. The other week it was Saintfield Demense and this week seems to be Walshestown Castle a tower house on shores of Strangford lough. No sign yet of filming at Castle Ward which is just a bit further down the road and was used for Winter fell in season 1
