Emmy Night! Game of Thrones up for 4 awards
By Winter Is Coming on in Awards, Press.

The Emmys are only a coupleEmmy Awards hours away. Game of Thrones has four nominees going tonight. Peter Dinklage for best supporting actor in a drama, best writing for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for “Baelor”, best directing for Tim Van Patten for “Winter Is Coming”, and the show overall for Best Drama.

The stars should be arriving soon. In addition to those named above, I believe Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey and George R. R. Martin will be attending tonight’s ceremony. Use this thread to discuss the Emmys as it airs. If there are any wins, we will update this post and then have a full recap post afterwards as well. Go Dinklage! Go Game of Thrones!

UPDATE: Peter Dinklage has won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama!!! HELL YEAH!!!

Thanks WiC. The video you posted is of some fashion show but the link is easy to find on popsugar’s site. Any chance of a livestream of the event itself? The BBC’s not airing it and that’s the only English language channel I have.

    Lex,

I agree. Not that I’m not interested in Jeniffer carpenter’s dress(okay, well I’m not) but they’re just chattering on and on about nothing. Then again that’s probably what they were instructed to do and if I had to talk for several hours I’d run out of interesting material within 30 minutes as well.

    Lex,

Damn, missed that. Well, I guesss that rules out any interviews with George R.R. Martin then. Such a shame I would’ve loved to know all about his dress.(smiley required)

Well It’s a great link but I think I’m gonna turn it off. When is the actuall event supposed to start? Cause I’d hook up on that.(naturally)

Haha, I heard that exact line!

Anyways, no point in watching this. They’re not really interviewing anybody, so at the most maybe you’ll just see Peter Dinklage walk by in the background. Not worth it. Too bad I don’t have cable, and can’t watch the actual Emmy’s either. I’ll just check back here for the updates.

ugh. the Emmys are just as bad as the Grammys and the Oscars. rewarding mediocrity for the past 4 decades.

modern family is a modestly funny comedy for a network show. it in now way deserves to sweep the comedy category. if there were any justice in the world shows like Archer and Louie would be winning these instead.

don’t hold your breath for GoT folks … the Emmys reward the banal not the best.

because i have SOME serious criticisms of the show does not equal me thinking it is banal. nor does the fact that i am pessimistic about the show going forward being able to successfully tackle increasingly convulted books.

but hey, let’s have some more of that false dichotomy … it is always fun for the whole family :)

This show was actually very funny in first two seasons, when they were making actual nerdy jokes. I mean, Sheldon dressed as Doppler effect – that was a really good one.
But then the jokes became lamer and lamer, the new characters were annoying, though I think the second half of the last season was pretty good.

it’s no Archer. it is no Louie. it isn’t even Parks & Rec or Psych. it only escapes being considered wretched because it is on the same network as utter shite like 2.5 men, still standing, and mike & molly.

Honestly they didn’t have a shot for directing. I literally laughed when I saw who was nominated. Even if he didn’t deserve it and it was his worst directing job ever, he would have won.

As for writing, Jason Katmis is amazing, Friday Night Lights is amazing, Kyle Chandler just won so I’m as happy as can be.

But if anyone but Peter would have won, that would be just…horrible.

So here is hoping that either Game of Thrones, Friday Night Lights or the Good Wife win the Emmy. No Mad Men!

Heh, I just realized the GoT director who was nominated is Tim Van Patten, the kid with the big blonde hair from 70s t.v. series “The White Shadow”. Salami was never going to beat Martin Scorcese in a directing popularity contest.

Okay, my first time posting on this site, but I have to. I completely have to.

I didn’t expect Peter Dinklage to win. I WANTED him to, but I stopped giving any credit to the Emmys years ago. They just don’t recognize genre shows.

But this time… this time they did, however. And Peter Dinklage rightfully won an award he so richly deserves. He was brilliant as Tyrion, and even the Academy could see that. Here’s to a repeat performance next year!

Well, I’m quite pleased with the outcome of the awards. A win for Dinklage is awesome, there was no shot at all in directing and I’m very glad for the FNL writing win.

I’m also fine with the Mad Men win (and I consider myself a huge GoT fan!), because objectively I must say that it was the best show on TV this year. Of course it might seem boring to have the same show winning every time, but that shouldn’t really go into it. It’s hard to believe that they still have no acting wins, I mean what else do Jon Hamm and Elizabeth Moss have to do if The Suitcase doesn’t cut it?

Anyway, the winners in the drama category where spread between quite a number of shows, which only speaks for the width of quality shows on the air right now. Let’s hope for even more GoT nominations next year!

Hihi, for people generally of the opinion that the Emmys are obsolete, you sure seem glad Dinklage won… :D

I think he got it partly because he and the character he is playing are awesome, and part to compensate GoT for the other losses. Anyway, I’m glad as it turns more focus towards our beloved GoT and that is a good thing.
