As I said in the comments of our last filming update, I’m really liking the switch from Malta to Croatia. The Croatian press is all over this production. The only coverage we got from the Maltese press was when the crew screwed up that beach clean-up.
Today, a batch of new set photos have cropped up online, including what appears to be our first look at some Qartheen fashion. (No, it’s not the bare-breasted Qartheen gowns. I believe David & Dan have already said they will be cutting that aspect of their culture.) Croatian web site Slobodna Dalmacija has a report on filming at the Sorkočević mansion and it includes a bunch of new photos. The photos are of extras in both Dothraki and, what I’m guessing is, Qartheen armor (pictured right).
Meanwhile, in the same real-world city but on a different fictional continent, DubrovnikNet has some photos of a King’s Landing street. The report states that this is to be used for a “mob scene.” Book readers should know the one they’re talking about.
In addition, a slideshow of set photos from Northern Ireland has been uploaded to YouTube. Perhaps most interesting are the photos of a boat with a crowned stag at the prow, sitting in front of greenscreen. I think we can all guess what that will be used for.

I think we should give some sort of license to these spies that we have throughout the world. Give them code names, classified according to the information they give us and the country from which it is extracted … and offer them some kind of reward? At least allow them to choose mysterious aliases and stuff (weapons? swords names?).

It was built with defensive purpose in mind. The choice was either to demolish the church of st. Dominic which was just outside the city walls or extend the walls to incorporate said church and monastery. As it is one of the bigger churches in Dubrovnik they decided against demolishing it and extended the city walls. The present-day st. Dominic street was to be used in case of the breach of the city gate to create a bottle-neck with which invaders could be repelled.

I always found that a bit odd to be honest. Bearing just one breast- culturally normal to go topless or normal to cover up I could understand, but I kept thinking of strange one sided sun tan. And pitying anyone who burns! Bare breast in a hot, near-desert place without sun block does not sound fun to me (I’m a redhead).

Since we know they’re nowhere done filming and those roles don’t show up until the book is almost over, I think it’s fair to say they’re either still being cast, or perhaps HBO is sitting on the name until they arrive on set.
Again, we need to keep in mind that most TV shows don’t necessarily give out every role that’s been cast. Some of these roles, while memorable, are quite small. Qhorin, for example, may not even show up for more than about three episodes at best.

That site we broke is finally back on-line so here is the working link to the story. They say Emilia Clarke has arrived in the city and give a precise number of extras (540) and crew involved in filming (50-ish local and 140 from aboard).
They also said they tried not to make too much trouble for the residents so they scheduled shooting in the old town when there are no scheduled cruisers arrival to limit the congestion as much as possible.

While I was a bit worried and miffed that HBO decided to leave Malta, I must say that the move to beautiful Croatia was a masterful stroke! As for Northern Ireland… it looks great…and should make for some amazing vistas and scenery in Season Two. Any images coming from Iceland? I’d like to see those…Jon Snow, north of The Wall…oh man I can’t wait.

It is just noon here and already there are bunch of photos from the shooting. Portal Oko has over 20 pictures of extras getting ready for shooting and resting between shots (every half an hour they are opening the street for the traffic when they are getting ready for next shot). In the article they are talking with a horses handler who said he has brought them from UK to the shooting in Dubrovnik.
On Google Plus Nikola Čakelić is posting pictures “live”. They are shot by cellphone so quality isn’t great but he captures some interesting details. Most interesting to me is one of the props they are using – a litter which I presume was occupied by High Septon during certain mob scene they are probably shooting today.

Aeron has been moved to season 3 – we had a report a while back that his place has been taken by an unnamed Drowned God priest in his only scene in Clash.
The rest are likely to be cast, but Rattleshirt and Strong Belwas will probably only appear in episodes 9 and 10 (or possibly just 10), so they will likely be announced later.

Like most people i would have preferred the Quarthian gown but i agree that’s it probably too much trouble to get 50 odd extra’s bare breasted.
Still who knows they might include that point with the tokar in season 3 in Slaver’s bay. I mean no reason why you need 50 extra’s wearing rich (wo)man’s clothing so we might get it later!
The pictures look great! Interesting to see how the final scenes will turn out. I think the scene where the mob rapes lollys and sandor saves sansa is an important one to do right. Should accurately portray the feelings of the mob towards the royals i think… and poor tyrion most of all…

However, their suggestions are generally pretty good: GAME OF THRONES itself for Best TV Show and Best New Show, the title sequence for Best Effects Sequence, Maisie Williams for Best Actress, Peter Dinklage for Best Actor and, if that’s your thing, either Kit Harington or Sean Bean for the Best Male category. There’s no GoT suggestion for Best Female category, though it’s but the work of a moment to add Emilia Clarke (or any other actress of your choice, of course) :) On a related note, ADWD is in the Best Novel category (though it’s a very, very stiff field this year, and even among the suggested nominees the Abercrombie and Mieville are both probably superior). And of course you can vote for any of the other shows, films, comic books etc from last year.

Huh? That doesn’t make sense. If he doesn’t appear in season 2 he shouldn’t appear untill season 5 which would correspond with AFfC.
I agree, both Rattleshirt and Strong Belwas should onyl appear in episode 10 and they should both only get one scene. They’re important in terms of story not in terms of screentime.
Jojen and Meera I think should be featured in at least 5 of the 10 episodes because they are constantly present at Winterfell where a large section of the book takes place. Reek should feature in aprox 4 episodes I think because the siege of Winterfell is quite extensive. Mace Tyrell will probably be featured in 2 episodes namely the one at Bitterbridge and at the end of the battle of Blackwater which I think will take up about 3 episodes. After all, it is quite big.
Of course this is all just speculation we won’t know untill the season’s aired. or someone leaks it that is.

What? I’m outraged! (no just kdding) I think GoT is a much better series. Only place where I voted Fringe was in the villains section. I really hate Joffrey and Jack Gleeson is a good actor but I just think Walternate was a better villain. Then again, looking back, I should’ve typed Tywin Lannister instead. But anyway I voted for GoT in every other section it was available so I’ve done my fan duty. Kinda weird though seeing it pop up on a sci fi contest. Seeing as it’s not a sci fi series.
