George’s hints for the roles of Rorge and Biter have been deciphered. This time we had a bit of a head start as we had already had an inkling of who would be playing Rorge. The Biter clue took some time of puzzling over the clues, but was eventually solved. Kudos to OhDanyBoy for figuring it out!
First, Andy Beckwith has been confirmed as Rorge. Rorge is a dangerous criminal that travels with Arya and Yoren to the Wall. As we mentioned in our previous Rorge post, “Beckwith is a consummate character actor known for rough-and-tumble roles, having appeared in movies such as Snatch, Unleashed, and two of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.” Beckwith fit the clues of a pirate (was in Pirates of the Caribbean), a nark (played Nathan the Nark in The Sins), a corporal (played a corporal in Dinotopia) and a barman (played Terry the Barman in Tabloid TV).
The remaining clues pointed to Gerard Jordan as Biter. Biter is another, even more dangerous, criminal traveling to the Wall with Yoren and company to take the black. Jordan is a Belfast-based character actor, with roles in Fifty Dead Men Walking, Fair City, and Pulling Moves. Jordan fit the clues of a bully (was a night-time bully in Savage), a dead man (was in Fifty Dead Men Walking), a gash (played Gash in Accelerator), and a potato (played Spudz in Peacefire).
Winter Is Coming: Some of you are probably wondering, didn’t we see Rorge and Biter at the end of season one? Well, yes, sorta. Those were extras who only had to sit there and look menacing. Now that the roles require some more acting, they needed to cast some actual actors. And these two look perfect. Welcome to the cast, fellas!

I’m just glad they’re not cut or minimized to featured extras. They are some of the more memorable nasties that GRRM came up with.

Who else are we waiting for? Edmure, Ygritte, Reeds and Qhorin? I hope this list will get shortened soon…

Reek as well. Maybe Vargo Hoat. And I’d like to know who’s playing Selyse.

Am I nuts or did this take waaaaay longer to confirm than others? Maybe I’m nuts.
Anyway, I know I’m not alone in wondering where some pretty major people are. We know Ygritte will be included, as there have been reports of auditions held for her. We apparently know there’s a Dontos, but no name has been released. Why? And of course, whither the Reeds, the Tullys (specifically Edmure and Hoster), Qhorin Halfhand, Reek, Vargo Hoat, Rattleshirt, Strong Belwas? Will they be included? Can the story be told without them without significant changes?
And if they’re not being included, why include incidental characters whose removal would not hurt at all, like Pyatt Pree, Dagmer Cleftjaw or Salladhor Saan? I pretty much thought they wouldn’t be included regardless, but apparently not.
And what about roles that seem minor now but portend much bigger things in the future, like Selyse, Shireen, Patchface, Wyman Manderly, Osmund Kettleblack, etc.?
I know, I know, I’m being impatient, but dammit it frustrates me to no end that we know who’s playing insignificant roles like Hallyne, Black Lorren and Alton Freakin’ Lannister but we don’t have Jojen, Meera or Edmure. THESE ROLES ARE IMPORTANT AND PUSHING THEM TO NEXT SEASON IS A TERRIBLE IDEA.

I think Biter is handsome. Am I going mad? :D
The RabbitQuote Reply
this has nothing to do with Rorge or Biter but did anyone heard or read anything about Jojen and Meera? are they cut? are they gonna pop up only on the third season?
João AmaralQuote Reply
Josh Parker, patience, Daniel-san. At this time last year we didn’t know who would be playing Rickon, Mirri Maz Duur, , Kevan Lannister, Meryn Trant, or Walder Frey. Your list of roles there includes a bunch of folks who won’t appear until late in the season (Qhorin, Rattleshirt, Belwas, etc.).
The others may have been cast already, or are close to being cast, but HBO seems to want to let the casting info out in drips and drabs as opposed to one big info dump of names. Which I happen to prefer as it gives us more to talk about on a day-to-day basis. :)

Honestly, it looks to me like they should be switched. Rorge looks sufficiently thuggish to be Biter and Biter looks way too normal. But I guess this is what makeup and, um, acting are for.

Winter Is Coming,
That’s true but a great majority of the names you listed from last season were minor roles (in screen time, anyway) and only appeared in 1-3 episodes near the END of the season. The only exception in your list is Rickon, who was most likely a featured extra they decided to keep, like Aimee Richardson.
The roles I’m talking about primarily are all very significant and should show up very early in the season (the Reeds and Tullys). If they are telling the same story, both Reed children and Edmure should appear often enough to almost be considered regulars (or at least fake guest stars). But we don’t even have a whisper that they’ll be included, like audition tapes being screened, or anything.

I agree. Handsome, and way too normal. Biter is supposed to be hideously ugly, with a bald pale head.
I guess me saying he’s not pale enough makes me racist? ;)

Absolutely! ;)
btw, which one of the two supposes to have strange (ugly) teeth?
The RabbitQuote Reply
Lex,
No, it doesn’t, and I’m sure you’re not the first person to think he’s too normal-looking. I know I do. However, I also know that there was no role cast last season that I couldn’t live with; Even Renly, who to me was the weakest choice among them. I will wait to see the final result before I pass judgement.
The Rabbit,
Biter. Hence the name.

To be fair it is hard to say just how pale he is from this photo. Not sure where he is from, but if he has Scottish or Irish genes he will be naturally(without sunburn) so pale he will have a tinge of blue. Makeup would also work. But I agree he will need a lot of uglification.

Again I point out that mentioning Ramsay Snow in the casting list is a spoiler. He’s supposed to be dead when we are introduced to Reek, and his reveal as Ramsay is the cliffhanger of Theon’s storyline for the season… so please, say Reek, not Ramsay. I have little doubt that if the character is cast, that’s how they’ll announce him, and you’ll avoid spoiling non-readers.

You are right and I’d never considered that. There’s not a way to edit my posts, unfortunately, but I will do that from now on.
Josh ParkerQuote Reply
I agree. When I first saw Andy Beckwith, I thought he’d be a better Biter with a shaved head and pointy teeth. And Gerard Jordan looks like more of a Rorge to me – but again, I’m sure acting had a bit to do with it, and makeup can do a lot.

Hi-Fi,
Josh Parker,
I edited both of your posts. :) The good thing is we are still so far away from the season airing that even if a newb happened to read these comments there would be no way it would spoil them. Unless they have the memory of an elephant. But we will have to be careful as the season gets closer and especially when they cast the role.

Unless they’re somehow cut from the show, they still need to cast Edmure, Hoster, Blackfish, Damphair, Meera & Jojen, Halfhand, Rattleshirt, Ygritte, Vargo Hoat, Amory Lorch, Mandon Moore, Arys Oakheart, Dontos Hollard, the Kettleblacks, Lady Tanda, Patchface, etc…
Surely, some characters will be cut, but some are relatively important to the story. They’re probably waiting for winter until they film the Night’s Watch scenes, so expect announcements on that front soon. But I can’t imagine that they’d cut out Riverrun from the story. That would change things rather dramatically.
Lord Reaper o’ PykeQuote Reply
I hate when they switch actors. If they needed to wait casting actors for the roles, why didn´t they put bags over the heads of all three of them. Would have seemed really menacing. And they could have had a reveal in s2, with Joren pulling the hoods from their heads one by one. First Rorge, then Biter. One looking more dangerous than the next. And then dramatic music….. and they reveal Jaqen. A handsome smiling man. But with a mysterious quality to his smile. And you start wondering why he is in there with the freaks. Perhaps even do the scene from the books, that show that the two others are afraid of him. And him sitting their smiling at Arya. Powerfull stuff. And a good visual for tv.

I would not post links in here (it is in croatian anyway), but the first reports from the fittings say that one of the first scenes to be filmed in Dubrovnik would be Tyrion, Bronn and the Clansmen entering the KL.
It is up to me to figure out which gate they would be using: Pila or Ploče ;)

Something is wrong with the link for Rorge at the season two cast page. I get a “Not Found” when I want to enter it.

This guy Sam Mackay is filming Game of Thrones these days.
Which part, I wonder ?
The RabbitQuote Reply
I was going to ask you people the same question… Does anybody knows who he is? :?
NiQuote Reply
According to his tweet it is a small role in the opening scene to an episode, introducing two guys.
And he is also called back to be on the set in late October (that means after Dubrovnik filming).
A possible guess is Maester Pylos.
The RabbitQuote Reply
But Pylos appears later in aSoS… its not a major role, but he’s in there and is the one who gives Davos the letter that carries Stannis to the Wall… I don’t know if they are cutting that one, but whatever :P
NiQuote Reply
Ni,
I am not 100 % but I think he is already in ACOK prologue.

Sure, yes, I didn’t explain myself. Pylos is already there, what I meant was that he has a bigger role later (not much, but some) ;)

I was thinking, if they’ve already cast Margaery Tyrell, there’s no way they can end season 2 with the Battle of the Blackwater, since her scenes come after the battle is won. They’ll probably end with Joff’s wedding, or the Red Wedding, in order to get Margaery some screen time. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have cast her until season 3.
DontosHollardAtYaQuote Reply
DontosHollardAtYa,
No. Margaery will probably be in some of the Renly scenes. There’s no way they will include scenes from the END of Book 3, in Season 2.
LexQuote Reply
Ok, Biter had just a minimal role, but Roose was preety good. The lead actor would make a suberb Ramsay, btw. A lot of Irish actors in that movie, I wonder if they have casted more that we don’t yet know of…
Chris77Quote Reply
Lex,
Well, they said they were moving up certain story lines from ASOS into Season 2 (everyone knows one of those story lines will be Jaime’s release from Riverrun). But in the books, at least, Margaery doesn’t appear until ASOS, although she’s talked about in Clash. So in order for her character to get screen time they’re either going to have to write her some scenes that weren’t in the book, or move her story from ASOS into Season 2. I agree that it would be quite a jump to move the Red Wedding up into Season 2, but I heard they cast Oona Chaplin to play Jeyne Westerling, so why would they have cast her role if they weren’t moving it up?
Also, I wonder how far they’re going to go with Dani’s scene in the House of the Undying? Will they cast a Rhaegar and Elia of Dorne for the flashback? Will she see Rhaegar and Robert clash at the Trident? Will she see dead Robb at the Red Wedding with Grey Wind sewn to his chest? If they’ve cast Pyat Pree, it seems likely they’ll do something with the House of the Undying, but how far they’ll take it, I don’t know. They couldn’t simply cast an extra to play Rhaegar, because he has a speaking role, i.e. “Song of Ice and Fire”, but it would be a very small part (though rather important to the overall story).
DontosHollardAtYaQuote Reply
DontosHollardAtYa,
Margery is with Renly in his camp. We should see her at the feast following the tourney that Brienne wins. In the book Cat notices how Renly pay more attention to Loras, than to his young bride. Perhaps they will even make extra scenes to introduce her since we don´t need to follow POV
