We’ve had quite a few castings leak out via Twitter or through the actor’s CVs on Spotlight or their agency profile. Although these were strong signs that the casting was legit, it is still nice to get official confirmation from HBO. Today HBO has confirmed the following actors and roles for season two of Game of Thrones.
Steven Cole as Kovarro
Nicholas Blane as Spice King
Tony Way as Dontos Hollard
Sam Callis as Gold Cloak
That last confirmation is one we haven’t reported on yet, as we just weren’t sure how significant this role would be. Sam Callis is a British TV actor who is probably best known for his role as Sgt Callum Stone on The Bill. He has also appeared on Doctor Who, Holby City and The Royal. He is officially credited as Gold Cloak, but I wonder whether he might be filling the role of Jacelyn Bywater in this second season. HBO generally won’t confirm a casting unless the role is more than just a featured extra (i.e. they have to have a few lines, at least). That they have confirmed it, combined with the fact that Sam Callis is an experienced actor, leads me to that conclusion.
Winter Is Coming: The cast continues to grow… We’re down to only a handful of roles still yet to be cast. With only about two months of filming to go, these roles are probably already cast and will hopefully be announced soon.

Did they ever confirm Forbes as Lorren?

Those roles better include Meera, Jojen and Qhorin Halfhand. I’m starting to panic a little. Oh, also Ramsay and Reek.

Has Mance Raydar been cast?
Corey BrooksQuote Reply
Corey Brooks,
Mance Rayder will be replaced with a wight in the HBO series.

Corey Brooks,
I don’t think Mance actually shows up until the third book so they wouldn’t need to cast him until the start of the third season.
Chris BerezQuote Reply
Corey Brooks,
They don’t need a Mance Rayder in season 2, since he doesn’t appear until ASOS.

What does the fact that they won’t give the name of the actress playing Selyse means? That she won’t even have lines and will be just an extra? I wasn’t around at the time of casting for season 1, so I’m genuinely interested on how this works.

I want my Reeds!!! And what about XXD? Is he getting cut for season 2?
JessQuote Reply
Hi-Fi,
Please correct me if im wrong, but I don’t think that Selyse has many lines in ACOK iirc. I think she mostly just introduces Mel. But
they’ll need more than a featured extra later on if they go past ASOS. ACOK and ASOS run together in my head a bit so I could be way off.

I haven’t checked the comments yet, is it confirmed that Rakharo is gone for good?

No Selyse… *sigh* and no Shireen. I’m very fond of Shireen! I secretly harbour the hope that she’ll be the left-field dragon rider. And with the rising profile of greyscale in Dance, how could it not be important somehow? They can’t leave out Shireen :( Besides which, she’s now the Baratheon heir to Westeros. She’s damn important!

I am currently on a rehearing (Dotrice) of ACOK and my guess for the Goldcloaks role is that of the goldcloak leader that confronts Yoren at the inn, as for Shireen and Selyse they will become important later on, because of the greyscale. Greyscale played such a prominent role in ADWD that I believe we will learn that the dragons of Dragonstone are real dragons that were petrified through Greyscale. IMO it was a biological/magical weapon devised by the Citadel to counter the threat of dragons from Valyria. It’s prominence near the ruins of Valyria and Shireen contracting it at Dragonstone makes me think so…

my dream casting for ramsay bolton is cillian murphy. he’s a great actor and has (striking eyes which would reinforce the relationship with ian mcelhatton). the only issue is he may be too handsome)

ASOIAFan,
Cilian Murphy playing Ramsay Bolton is like Joan Rivers playing Daenerys.

I cannot imagine they’d touch on the minor Slynt/Jaclyn story at all. That would be a total waste of our precious ten hours.
I’m still worried that they’ve included Dontos and Karstark, who could have been cut with little alteration to the story. Cutting the Blackfish makes total sense… but he is a fan favorite, and when they’re filling out all these far more forgettable roles, the decision gets less defensible.
I still hope they trim down the slightly too-complicated plots of Harrenhal and Theon. And as much as I hate to lose the Reeds, having our lovely Osha fill their role makes a lot of sense.
ZachQuote Reply
clemintine, I think it would actually make a lot of sense to move the Selyse/Shireen stuff from book 2 into season 3. Stannis goes back to Dragonstone and he doesn’t have much to do that season, so it would make sense to spend some time with them then.

does anyone else think that Sam Callis’ Gold Cloak is the one that goes after Gendry et al

Where Where Where is Ramsay???!!! Please don’t tell me they are casting Karstark and not Ramsay — we MUST have him …. too many good tales revolve around him!

It’s possible they’re just having Roose take the Ramsay role. That’s fine with me! Smart dovetailing.
Though for those of you who will cry foul and say that will screw up a bunch of perceived “important events,” let’s see if we can figure out a way to fix all that in, oh, five minutes or less…
4:41 pm. Begin!
What does this change anyway? Upon reflection, not much. He never needs to show up at Harrenhal – Arya convinces Jaqen to kill the guards, and that’s when she, Gendry and Hot Pie escape. Jaime never has to meet him at Harrenhal nor does Roose have to have any part in the Red Wedding. And there’s no reason for there to be two Boltons in DwD.
Done. 4:43. Let me know if I missed anything.

Roose tortures too, and imo is every bit the sicko his son is. Hes just smart enough to keep it behind closed doors. Think hannibal lector.

I saw Sam Callis in a production at Nottingham Playhouse a few months ago and he was brilliant, so whoever he turns out to be playing, I hope it’s something meaty so as not to waste him.
