How’s this for a birthday present? HBO has just sent us an email notifying us that tomorrow night we will get our first glimpse of season two of Game of Thrones! They are airing an In-Production video that will feature “never-before-seen footage and new characters from the upcoming second season of the series which will premiere on HBO in the Spring of 2012.” The video is set to air just prior to tomorrow night’s Boardwalk Empire episode. Don’t have HBO? No problem, we will have it embedded here in a new post right around 9 PM ET!
Winter Is Coming: Oh man, I am so pumped for this. Just when we were starting to really get antsy about season two stuff, we get this. HBO knows us too well. I suspect this will be around 5 2-3 minutes long and will include mostly behind-the-scenes stuff and some soundbites from the cast and David & Dan. And, who knows, maybe we will get a short trailer too? Hey, a guy can dream!

Y’know what, I think I may have been a little optimistic about 5 mins. I thought the first In Production video we got last year was about that long, but it was actually only a minute and half. We got that much earlier, so they have more footage to work with now, so I’m guessing 2-3 minutes for tomorrow night’s vid is reasonable. :)

I am WAY behind on Boardwalk Empire, but I’ll try to check in just for the footage. My guess is we’ll see Stannis and Melisandre (and maybe a snippet of the prologue) representing the new characters, since these are the most intriguing, and then shots of Tyrion (Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage will have to be in every promo from here on out, right?), Dany and her dragons, Jon and/or the King in the North himself. I wouldn’t mind seeing a glimpse of Brienne and Davos, as well, but hey! 2-3 minutes isn’t enough time to please everyone.

This gives me a flashback of nostalgia, to last year at this time. I remember all those exciting Sundays when we were told we’d be seeing a new trailer, or a new behind-the-scenes video. (I didn’t get sick of trailers until January or February, when I joined the Brotherhood Without Previews. The recent drought has me salivating for previews once again! I may rejoin the BWP sometime nearer to April).

After season one I remember saying that I would go into season two as unspoiled as possible…
And now I am the first one salivating!!!
Actually, I think that the first-ever look at a new season is certainly okay and hard to resist.
It’s the influx of clips, teasers, scenes and photos that will come after that I will have to carefully avoid for fear of being overexposed.
But I will probably give in…..!!!

I don’t have any strict rules, I will probably watch all the official trailers… but I’ll try to only watch them a couple times, and then forget about them. They’ll start with the teaser trailer that came out a month or two back (just a voice saying “The Night is Dark & Full of Terrors”
Then, they’ll fade in, and it will be Stannis, Melisandre, Davos and a few others around his table-map of Westeros/7 Kingdoms.
Then, they’ll have some scenes with the familiar characters, starting with Tyrion, then Dany and her dragons, and Jon, followed by Arya (maybe looking in on Jaqen, Rorge & Biter?), Catelyn, Robb, maybe Theon meeting a smirking Asha, Brienne towering over Loras at Renly’s tourney, then maybe a key early novel scene is shown for a few seconds, and they’ll end with a bit more from Dany and close with a quip from Tyrion.

Sorry – I went away from the comp for awhile and I didn’t want to ruin it if it is what they’re showing tonight but it was really great but pretty vague. I saw stannis, davos, margaery, melisandre…no Brianne though, to my dismay. A close up on the Hound was telling, I hope. (the burning of the gods made an appearance but we’ve seen those pics by now). It was narrated by D&D and they kept it simple. A lot of little scenes – it might be up on the HBO GO website. It has me very pumped. Again, it might not be what they’re showing tonight. Davos looks awesome. He’s my fave.

Well, if you’re talking about the very first “teaser” that was just a shot of a raven and some woods, with someone laughing and then saying “Winter is Coming,” then I agree that was not much. But the first In-Production vid (as tonight’s is supposed to be) we got last Sept was great, and was followed by the “Raven” teaser which was also pretty sweet. Pretty sure it’ll be something like that.
