Three years and two days ago, HBO commissioned a pilot for their television adaptation of the A Song of Ice and Fire series (the show didn’t have a title yet). A couple days later, I decided to start a blog to follow the latest news about the show. And now, exactly three years and 1,000 posts later, we’re still going strong! The show has turned into a huge hit with audiences and critics alike and it doesn’t look like it will be going away any time soon. And neither will we!
I want to thank Fire and Blood and Hear Me Roar for all their hard work in helping me keep this site updated. You guys do a fantastic job. And a thank you to HBO for treating us as a legit news site, on par with Entertainment Weekly or The Hollywood Reporter, by giving us screeners and exclusives and other neat perks. It was very unexpected, but very appreciated. And a big thanks to George R. R. Martin for not only linking to us on his blog and web site, but even including us in his dedication of A Dance with Dragons. Very flattering, to be listed amongst those great ASOIAF fans and sites. But most of all, thanks to you guys, the readers and commenters, for making this site as great a community as it is. Yeah, we have our moments of nitpicking and intense debate over trivial matters, but for the most part, I feel we are a very positive community that is united by a common theme: we love Game of Thrones.
So here is to another year of Thrones news and rumors!

Happy Birthday, WiC.net! Winter, you da man, thanks for starting this great website. I’m happy and honoured to be part of it.
Some numbers: in its first year, the website published 200 posts, followed by 300 in the second. The third year, when the first season aired, resulted in staggering 500 posts.

Elena Amici,
I don’t know what’s the problem with my facebook account. STUPID Internet.
PS: Completely OT: I’m sure I’m not the first one to say this, but I just read online that KH was cast as King Artur in that Artur&Lancelot movie. http://blastr.com/2011/11/games-of-thrones-jon-snow.php

Happy Birthday, WiC.net. Thanks for giving me a venue for discussing the books and TV series. Before the series aired, I remember the excitement when we got little hints about casting, the surges in site visits when a promotional trailer or official pictures were released, racking my brain trying to solve the puzzles and games HBO created for us as we counted down the days to the TV show, and when the show finally aired the gates and the bottom supporting.
When A Dance with Dragons came out it was the first time I was reading the book at the same time as its release, so it was so much fun getting to read impressions and speculate about the meaning of it all.
Before the series came out I did not have anyone to discuss the series with; now I check the website every day curious to know what’s new in the world of Ice and Fire.
So thanks again for all your hard work and creating this space for fans new and old. I can’t wait for season 2 and the remaining books. Here’s to many more years.

Congratulations, WiC and the team.
I have been lurking since the first series was greenlighted, posting occasionally.
This was the first and best aSoIaF internet site I visited. Westeros is great for when a new book is published, but for GoT I return here again and again, liking the posting format better.
You guys should feel very proud of the feats you have achieved so far.
I, for one, thank you from the heart of my bottom for everything you do, and respectfully request that you please, please keep on keeping on…

Just wanted to say – I found this site about two weeks after it launched and have followed ever since. For all the script breakdowns, for all the amazing casting guess ingenuity, for all the great reporting on this series:
Thank you.
I remember the days of discussions about how Boardwalk Empire was a bad thing for Game of Thrones – we weren’t even sure the show would get picked up, but I think the fan support demonstrated by your site and the other ASOIAF pages around the web were instrumental in forcing the decision. You guys helped to show the brass at HBO that there was not only a large built-in fandom, but a potential for reaching a huge audience. Thank you, thank you, thank you WIC.net! You’ve done a great job over the last few years. Keep it up!
