Saturday’s GoT Laughs: New Year

Daenerys Targaryen’s New Year Resolutions:

What are yours? And here is an idea for a NY card you might want to send in the last minute. It’s definitely a reference to the show, there wasn’t that much wildling carnage in the books ;)

Hear Me Roar: Have a great celebration today! I am going to complete the GoT marathon with my (freshly addicted) dad, among other things. Cannot wait for Baelor.

And second. I suppose I should post an actual comment. These were hilarious. The cartoon reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes…

I loved the cartoon! I definitely made me think of Calvin & Hobbes and I’m sure it was a tribute to that wonderful comic strip.

My old father has been a big big reader of books his whole life. Never read fantasy though. But i got him to read the ASOIF books and he loved it! And together we watched Game of Thrones in a few evenings and he thought it kicked ass!!! Hope he lives a few more years so he can read the sixth and seventh book and that he and i together can watch HBO’s series too.

    That is my biggest wish.

This site mainly focuses on the tv series. Westeros is probably the best site for general wot news.

    Magnus,

    Just so.

That is why the site was launched. There had already been a big and informative ASoIaF community, but the niche Winter filled way back then (well, three years ago) was the need for a site collecting any and all tv series related news and rumours in one place, in blog format, without the need to browse for the latest development among all other GRRM and ASoIaF information.

Happy new year everyone. :) ……….GRRM, please, if you should read this, if we get any notice of the worlds end in 2012, please will you take a little of that precious time to tell us how ASOIAF ends. Millions of people will be able to resign themselves to emminent evaporation, imagining how good HBO would have made it all look.

Off topic, but kinda GoT related….. Check out the trailer for “The Grey” on youtube. It is Liam Neesons latest flick. Its basically men V wolf pack in The Artic. The wolves are no ordinary wolves though, oh no. They have a genetic mutation that makes them MUCH bigger the normal, and the Alpha male is even bigger than the other abnormally big wolves. Also they are (of course) extremely vicious and have no fear of humans.
Sound like something you have heard of?
Its out on Jan. 27th. I will be going to see it for sure. Direwolf(ish) beasties and Big Liam, thats a win win in my book.

Personally, I hate these “tributes” to Calvin and Hobbes. They go directly against the wishes of the strip’s creator … and that is uncool.

    Wall Crawler,

On this site I really can’t recall. But on every other website re: Game of Thrones then yes. A lot of people have made that comment. Personally, I see Jaime Lannister as a perversion of that Handsome Prince Hero archetype, which to me along with characters like Ned and Sansa Stark is what ASOIAF is essentially, a deconstruction of the fantasy genre and its tropes on the surface and a riveting medieval pseudo-historical epic underneath.

For those who haven’t yet noticed, GRRM put up an excerpt from The Winds of Winter on his website in the Song of Ice and Fire Sample section.

It is VERY spoilery; so don’t read it if you are averse to that sort of thing.
