I saw that Littlefinger Renly one a looong time ago, like before that episode even aired! Anyways, I love it. I always had a problem with that scene they had in the show. *Way* too unsubtle for Littlefinger – I mean, he all but accuses Renly of sleeping with Loras loudly in front of everyone in the crowd. I never thought that was realistic, he was talking to the King’s brother for crying out loud.

Just watched that ep. last night, and had the same reaction. There’s no way LF would be so bold to Renly. Sort of works for the TV show though, where Renly is portrayed as weak, and manipulated.
That ep. also contains the infamous shave scene. I hate it. In the books Loras is such a more heroic character, not a manipulative, effeminate, behind the scenes string-puller.
Anyhoo–I thought all three were very funny–that first one is so awful it works. Almost as bad as the dialogue from a Pierce Brosnan -era Bond flick.

I see your point re: Loras as a string-puller, though I don’t hate that scene as much as most people do. I for one appreciate that their relationship was actually brought to the forefront, instead of us finding out about it in, say, season 3 or 4 of the show. I don’t know if the shaving thing was the best way to do it, but I actually didn’t find Loras to be all that effeminate – after all, he was trying to “toughen” Renly up. On that note, I would argue that in the books Renly actually comes off as the much more flamboyant one, but also very arrogant and cocky. In the show he’s a bit of a hot-headed pushover, so you’re right, that scene was put in there because he needed someone to convince him to take the throne.
Sadly, I feel like now he won’t have that hilarious argument with Stannis in season 2, where he tells him he should be king because he’s better looking. I miss the fabulous Renly already.
