Character profile videos released for Renly, Daenerys, Joffrey, and Jon Snow!

In addition to several new pieces of footage of Daenerys and her khalasar in the Red Waste, the video features interviews with Emilia Clarke, Roxanne McKee and Iain Glen.

UPDATE: Two more videos have been released, featuring Jon Snow and Joffrey Baratheon.

ANOTHER UPDATE: A video for Renly has been uploaded as well!

Thanks to Darquemode for supporting the bottom by uploading the videos!

Screencaps are available on our Tumblr, as well.

Ours is the Fury: I expected new character videos earlier and then thought they weren’t going to do any this year, so this is a great surprise!

  • I was shocked to find it in my recordings!

    Great stuff though.
Emilia does the stronger version of Dany quite well! First the promo and now this… She should be a lot of fun this season!

Let’s hope more of these chracter profiles make their way online or on HBO soon!

  • Agree: Epic shot of the Red waste from a birds-eye view. Emilia is doing great. All the interviews so far make me appreciate the cast members even more.

  • @Darquemode:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I absolutely love it.

Is it Rakharo the bloodrider y the center background at 0:34? And could it be him that dies (we now the actor is no longer involved, didn’t we?) so Dany has to comfort Irri at 0:49?

  • Darn that was awesome!
Actually i thought they would really minimize the events of the Red Waste and focus more on Qarth, but well – there we go and I like it.

But i can’t make out who that woman is Dany holds in her arms.
Is it Doreah or some other handmaid?
Or just some random Dothraki woman who dies of heat and thirst?

  • Michaelmann,

It’s not Doreah- we’ve seen her in Qarth in other videos and her interview in this video has Qarth as the backdrop set. I can’t really tell who it is, but the woman isn’t dead in the video- she’s crying. Dany is comforting her. It could be Irri but I just can’t tell.

  • yeah this is pretty awesome, its just nice to see some dialogue and at least part of a scene. Question, does this mean they will be doing character profiles for all the main characters like last season? if so how often?

  • Caedes,

According to IMDB he has 2 movies in post-production and one in pre-production. So he may have had time to film I guess…. I thought he was out of the series or recast etc…. Maybe one of the more dialed in commenters on here know more?

  • Matt Chung,

well she don’t show up until ASOS if I’m not mistaken when she buys the unsullied in astapor so they can always cast her in season 3

I hope they do a bunch of these character profiles before the season starts, I guess it makes sense they would, why just do one character profile? either way it really feels like were coming up to the home stretch with all these trailers and episode titles being released

  • That’s an amazing video, the Red Waste looks splendid, specially that scene when we see the khalasar and Dany very very tiny, through “the eyes of a bird”. And the music is also fit, makes me think that she is going to have quite a hard and “lonely” trip.

    Ours is the Fury

I believe that is Irri crying! In the side shot it seems to be her. In the first trailers, I thought that was a dead character, maybe even Irri. Now I am relieved to know
    that she is just crying!!

  • Oh my, this is so awesome. The red waste looks absolutely gorgeous and foreign, yet so believable. Is this CGI?? Or this based on an actual location? It looks so good! And my hopes are that we will learn of Rakharro’s fate, since they included him in that shot of Dany with her dragons. I’m worried about not seeing Irri. I thought she was a great character in season 1 and was hoping to see more of her in season 2.

PS: Emilia and the actress playing Doreah look beautiful. Emilia has some lovely gowns this season, in addition to her cool Dothraki outfit. And Jorah looks handsome as ever.

  • The sheer scope of the location scenery this season is magnificent. All the wide spanning shots look gorgeously cinematic whether it is the North, King’s Landing or the Red Waste. Wonderful production values!!

I’m not sure I agree with Emelia’s assessment of Dany’s character, but that’s a conversation for a different thread. :)

  • wow!I want a Jon Snow character profile!they’ve made his part pretty action in contrast to the books.

  • And then at some point she comes to Mereen… And she does everything but following her destiny. Nice twist.

  • darquemode: It was on this morning before How to Train Your Dragon! XD

lol, you’re serious? That’s some epic programming right there haha.

I thought the Red Waste actually looked pretty bad, and they better not kill my favourite Irri goddamnit.

  • It really looks like Rakharo at :38-42, over Jorah’s left shoulder. No Irri in sight, but I’d be disappointed if she is not in it – Irri and Rakharo provided much-needed light heartedness to the Essos stuff last season.

@:48 I’m pretty sure that’s Roxanne crying, not Irri as previously thought? Well, the husband will be pleased with the apparent increase in her role. ;) Though wouldn’t it be interesting if they are building up Roxanne in the interviews as if she’s going to be important but then they go ahead and kill Doreah anyway? haha…

  • It’s definitely not Roxanne/Doreah. I’m more sure it’s Irri, the more I look at it.

    http://i43.tinypic.com/dp96h4.jpg

I agree that it looks like Rakharo in the background between Dany and Jorah’s heads, though it’s also unclear. Since Dany sends a bloodrider off to Vaes Tolorro, maybe it’s Rakharo they send off in order to free up Elyes Gabel the other films he was making?

    http://i39.tinypic.com/f2na1i.jpg

  • Ours is the Fury:
If Irri’s the one sitting there crying, why would she be dead?

she’s lacking in a lot of other shots and it ‘somehow’ seems to me she’s dying, she’s also being supported as if she can’t stand up herself in the shot with the dead horse. Then again, could also be a totally different character because it really isn’t clear it’s Irri.

  • Ah… as usual Emelia really gets her character, love it. The fact that Dany believes she can only trust herself and that she is truly alone – this is one of her great weaknesses but one of her great strengths also. If you trust no one… you can’t be betrayed, but you can’t survive being responsable for everyone else either, you will break eventually. Also a huge key to Dany’s character is that she feels destiny-driven, she might rather not seize her destiny because it is so difficult – she’d rather be just a young girl, but how can one ignore a sign like the birth of the first three dragons?

BTW that shot of her feeing Drogon => BACKGROUNDED!

Great to hear Iain finally! I’d love to hear his thoughts about his own character as well – though I suppose they will want to keep some of that under wraps so it’s a surprise.

The amount of footage we are seeing of the Red Waste makes me think they might do two episodes, even though only a single chapter takes place there. End the first with some Jorah feelings revelation, end the second at the gates of Qarth.

  • darquemode,

Thanks again, ser! You certainly deserve at least a knighthood at this point. Ser Darquemode of House Wic.net!

All I have to offer in return is this little .gif
    http://i41.tinypic.com/eiwn5w.gif
I daresay it will be well received, though,
    everyone loves the latest Joffslap
    (credit to chaucerettescs from ONTD)

  • I still remember, that some people complained about the “useless girl armor” on Dany’s left shoulder. Some other poeople suggested back then, that this peace of armor could be there to help place the CGI-dragons there. In the featurette, the dragon really sits on this piece of armor.
Could this be some kind of confirmation to the theorie? Or was it already confirmed?

  • Ours is the Fury:
It’s definitely not Roxanne/Doreah. I’m more sure it’s Irri, the more I look at it.
    http://i43.tinypic.com/dp96h4.jpg

Haha, yeah that’s the exact shot where the more I look at it, the more it looks like Roxanne! :) Time will tell

Ours is the Fury: Since Dany sends a bloodrider off to Vaes Tolorro, maybe it’s Rakharo they send off in order to free up Elyes Gabel the other films he was making?

    *puts on Dany-nerd glasses*
Well, technically, Dany sends three bloodriders from Vaes Tolorro, not to, and all three of them return. I suppose they could just have one not return… but it would seem odd for Dany to take off without one of her bloodriders. But they haven’t really explained how important the bloodriders are in the show, so I suppose it is possible.

  • I think Irri’s crying because their horses are dying, and it’s freaking her out. The whole group of them is going to have to walk? Scary, for Dothraki.

I think I am really going to enjoy Dany’s journey this year – no more trope’ crap being thrust upon her -being sold into marriage, and the date rape she had to endure with Drogo, no stockholm-syndrome love, and bizarre rituals to prove herself through the Dothraki way – she’s her own woman now, and her story will not require her to be humiliated by a man in order to be a Queen. This will give me a lot less to complain about. (Though I am sure I will still nitpick plenty, as is the right of my House!)

  • Yeah, Emilia is doing a great job showcasing the fact that Dany is starting to grow up in season 2.

She is starting to act like more and more like the “first Dothraki female leader” with her own blood riders and all. It is going to be an awesome scene when she fakes like she is trading Drogon for some Unsullied, then gives Drogon the command word she has trained him to breath his fire and it melts that slave traders face off… Can not wait!

Or will that happen in season 3?

I will be routing for Dany when she invades Westeros. I just hope she doesn’t end up killing any Starks. Any of the other POV characters I wouldn’t mind her killing so much. But please Martin don’t let her hurt any of the Starks… Heh

  • Thanks, darquemode! You’re great as usual!

Aw, thank God she’s just crying. I really hope we don’t lose Irri. I like Doreah but Irri was my favorite last season.

I’m still sad we’re losing Rakharo. Elyes Gabel was amazing. I hope he doesn’t just vanish, I hope we get an explanation for him leaving.

Anyway, everything looks pretty good, and both Emilia and Roxane look beautigul. Iain looks sexy as usual. ; )

  • I quickly looked up what kind of clothes doreah an irri had and found this:
    http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ljycpdUscB1qhu9p7o1_500.jpg
    and
    irri 1:
    http://i.lv3.hbo.com/assets/images/series/game-of-thrones/character/irri-1024.jpg
    irri2:
    http://sharetv.org/images/game_of_thrones/cast/large/irri.jpg

I think it’s definitely not the “irri2”-costume, because there’s more cloth around the shoulders, but in the video, no cloth at all can be seen.
Irri’s first costume has strings, that are not as close to the neck as Dorea’s.
So at first I thought, it’s more likely to be Doreah. But in the video, from 0:50 to 0:52, i thought I saw a string of cloth underneath all that hair, and it looked more brown than black to me. This would fit the “irri1”-costume more than Dorea’s.

  • Where was it confirmed that Rakharo is gone. I guess that would be a reason for Irri crying since the two of them seemed to have a thing for each other.

  • Oi!,

Not confirmed, but some sources (actually, I’ve read it here at WiC) have been saying the actor couldn’t return for Season 2 because he was busy doing films. I guess (and hope) it’s just speculation.

  • Hi-Fi,

    Nice find!

Theon’s “salt wife”? She looks really young, but I guess 18, at least. Any other Captain’s daughters she could be?

  • Well, they said one of the characters that dies in the book survives in the show, and one who doesn’t die in the book dies in the show. According to all the clips shown so far, it’s safe to assume that Doreah is the one who lives; so, since in this video we see Dany conforting Irri as she cries, could it be that the character who’ll die in the show is Rakharo?

  • I just took a look at the HBO schedule, and they are going to air a Joffrey and a Jon Snow featurette as well, tomorrow !

  • A surprising amount of new footage. All of it looks great.

And again, the production delivers a great establishing shot, this time of the Red Waste. Wow!

This season is going to look amazing. For those of us that were missing LOTR-style establishing shots in season 1, it looks like they are trying to deliver that for us in season 2. :-)

  • Sorry if someone mentioned this, but is it possible that it will be her horse that will die and not Doreah or Irri? I think it would cause just as much pain to her since she got the horse from Drogo.

  • I really liked this video …Looking forward to seeing Dany come into her own this season …I also think red waste looked great ….

  • NOone will take my dragons!”

ummm… errr.. Bran or Jon might. hee hee Them Starks are beast magnets!

the goat.. a million thanks for that EPIC Cersei slap. Love it! I can practically hear the whip of her sleeve. Music to the ears.

  • Michaelmann:
    Darn that was awesome!
Actually i thought they would really minimize the events of the Red Waste and focus more on Qarth, but well – there we go and I like it.

Yeah it’s awesome that they show the trek to Qarth because otherwise it would make it seem like an MMO where you just jump from point A to B.. the hardship makes for good TV.

But i can’t make out who that woman is Dany holds in her arms.
Is it Doreah or some other handmaid?
Or just some random Dothraki woman who dies of heat and thirst?

  • userj:

The casting guide here at WiC doesn’t list who are playing Black Lorren and the High Septon but nevertheless those roles have been cast and the actors announced.

    the goat:
    Hi-Fi,

The only “captain’s daughter” so far. And she never even gets to be Theon’s “Salt Wife.” He just ditches her after arriving to Pyke.

  • Ohh, it looks like they’re really beefing up Joffrey’s character. Granted, he always had that teenage rebelliousness in him, but it looks like they’re really amping it up this season, which might explain why Cersei slapped him in that last trailer. Brilliant idea, in my opinion.

  • Okay, I know many of us had Peter Dinklage as the odds on favorite to win Best Supporting Actor for last season right? What are the odds he wins again after the few clips of Season 2’s brilliance? It’s early…. but……

I’m looking forward to the King’s Landing scenes more than ever before! So much subterfuge and sly undermining is going to take place this year and it will be AWESOME!

  • I love listening to James Cosmo talk. As Mormont he is in character and this is the only role I’ve seen him in. So it is a bit of a surprise to listen to him talk in real life and be so full of expression. I can’t wait for Season Two!

  • David the Grey,

Cosmo gets this type of role in many movies that have broadswords or axes! He plays the gristled old man so perfectly and has for some 2 decades now I think. I almost picture eating charred turkey legs with no untensils and drinking mead on a daily basis! XD

Treasure Island, Highlander, Braveheart, Ivanhoe, The Color of Magic, Merlin and I’m sure I forgot some!

  • I can’t want to see Gleeson handle Joffrey’s wedding/death. He’s a damn good actor.

  • I would just like to say that as awful as Joffrey is, Jack Gleeson has acted the hell out of that role. It’d be too easy to make Joff cartoonishly evil rather than the arrogant teenager – with a cruel streak – that he is. For an idea of how bad Joff could have been, one need only look at Hayden Christensen in the Star Wars prequels (though to be fair, Christensen had s–t to work with when it came to the films’ writing. Still, it could have been ugly. I think there was a surprising subtlety to his portrayal of Joff that I felt was one of the real strengths of the first season, and I’m seeing more of it in this profile. Good work, kid. Too bad that owning that role will make people hate the very sight of you for the rest of your life.

Of all the families on the show, the Lannisters might be the most perfectly cast. Nikolaj, Lena, Jack, Charles and of course, Peter have all done a magnificent job. I wonder if Tommen and Myrcella can live up to the rest when they get their screen time.

  • Love that shot in the Jon Snow video I’m guessing of Mormont giving him his sword at the camp ground. Nice to see some focus on Joffrey too, poor Jack Gleeson rarely gets press and does such a bang up job with the part! Good to see him featured. I would love to see an Arya feature, but I have a feeling they are keeping her more under wraps – we’ve not seen a peep of Jaqen or Rorge or Biter

  • poguemahone:
I wonder if Tommen and Myrcella can live up to the rest when they get their screen time.

I’d really like to get D&D’s/casting lady’s input on this. I can’t get it through my head that they’d hire decent-to-above-average child actors to play those roles — you’ll need them to be good in the later books, after all — only for those kids to sit around for three to four seasons until they actually get to show off their skills. I fear a recast sometimes — not that I want one, because Tom and Myr are cuties. But if you got cute blonde kids that were young enough, I don’t think anyone in the mainstream would notice unless they were looking real close in the background of season one.

  • Pink Dragon,

True. I mean, Beric Dondarrion might get a recast and he got more face time in season 1 than Tommen and Myrcella. So, who knows. The show has been so well-cast up to this point that I probably wouldn’t oppose such a move if it’s deemed necessary.

  • poguemahone,

I thought I read somewhere that Beric will be re-cast and the Season 1 actor was just a featured extra and not the eventual actor in the role. I wil ltry to find the article.. I thought it was D&D that stated it, but I can’t recall….

Maybe it was just a commenter in the end….. Hmmm…

  • the goat,

yeah, I heard that Silver was one of those method acting horses. In between takes she refused to socialize with the rest of the cast and crew, kept cussing at everyone in Dothraki and showing up for her scenes drunk on clotted mare’s milk. What a diva.

  • I like that in these videos, the characters repeat some of the lines we’ve heard from season 1. For example, Joffrey says something along the lines of “a king does not ask, he commands.” He said something similar in season 1. And Tyrion says to Shae, “we’ve come to a dangerous place (King’s Landing),” which is exactly what Ned tells Arya in season 1.

I am really happy they included a video for Joffrey. Poor Jack Gleeson must be getting all kinds of angry responses to his portrayal of Joffrey. It speaks to how well he’s doing. I like how you can almost taste how close we are to him getting what he deserves.

Jon video was good, but it seems there were more interviews than actual footage, which is totally understandable, considering how they do need to keep some footage under wraps for the actual series.

If they do an Arya video, I do NOT want to see Jaqen. I want to be surprised!

I would love to see a Sansa video, but I wonder if they are going to stick to one character per location. Maybe Robb Stark will be the next one??

Theon absolutely needs his own character video as well.

  • darquemode: Website

I don’t know about that my friend …Breaking Bad is in it’s last season and I’m betting Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston sweep the tv awards season this yr …

  • Coltaine777,

    That’s very true.
Plus Mad Men is back….. and frankly this season Peter could possibly be nomiated in the Lead Actor category depending on how they edit everything or who HBO wants seen as their “lead”.

In a show like this it is hard sometimes to pick a “Lead” actor or actress. I think Dany, Tyrion, Cersei, and maybe even Stannis could be seen as leads in my mind….

  • I love how John Bradley conveys Sam’s nervousness even when he’s just summarizing the plot for an interviewer.

  • I cant wait for season 3- 4 when Joffrey finally eats it, his death in the books was a pleasant surprise. Tho I kinda wanted him to get it worse than he did…maybe they will spice up his passing on the TV show ( one can only hope).

  • Love James Cosmo.
John Bradley´s expression is so nice, his eyes wide open and happy?
That little piece of… king. I hope J. Gleeson gets more attention after season 2. His acting is on the edge and well-controlled. Great kid.

  • Awesome new scenes. Still no Ghost. Was hoping to get a little glimpse in Jon’s video profile. Maybe the Dire Wolfs will have a much less role to play in the TV series. Oh well, so much other stuff going on anyway.

  • As usual, Dinklage is hilarious: “Tyrion thinks that Joffrey… is a far less than adequate king.”

  • Is anyone gonna download the weapons video from HBO Go?

there’s new stuff with theon, davos, jeyne, robb and stannis.

  • sara,

I have issues grabbing HBO GO video sadly… The program I use to capture streams has issues with HBO’s encryption I think. I may try some new ones out soon. Hopfully MAking Game of Thrones will have it soon since it’s a MGoT video……

Interesting to see all those weapons stockpiled after the shoots. Think they would miss just one? Hmmm…..

  • Why does John Bradley’s(Sam) teeth looks so rotten is these videos. It’s not as noticeable when you watch on the internet but when you watch the clips on HDtv it’s very noticeable. His teeth weren’t like that last season and he was at the DVD launch not long ago and his teeth looked fine so I wonder why they look like he hasn’t brushed his teeth in years in this video and the in production Iceland one.

  • HBO added the character profiles for Joffrey, Jon and Daenerys… and also the Seven Devils trailer to their onDemand.

If they release 3 character profiles a week up to the premiere that would be 6 or 9 more I guess. I’m not sure how many characters they will do this year but I would suspect more than 9 or 12 total. What did they do last year I forget – 12-15??
Maybe more are on the way later this week?

  • Pink Dragon: I’d really like to get D&D’s/casting lady’s input on this. I have a strong gut feeling that Tom and Myr will do just fine, this based on incidental things like attending the panel Calum Wharry was on at TitanCon and following Aimee Richardson on Twitter. Incidentally, I think it’s also fair to add that Art Parkinson is going to knock people’s socks off when Rickon has grown up a bit :D

  • Wasn’t expecting the Irish accent from jack gleeson! His clipped RP tones are perfect in the show. Really he was an incredible find – I could not imagine anyone more perfect in this role.

  • I have to express my delight in what we’ve seen of Cersei so far. The red gown she’s wearing is perfect, a real Lannister garb, and it matches my idea of Cersei perfectly. Overall, a great season is coming, an improvement, and all that while the first one wasn’t half bad either :D

  • all hail darquemode!!!

Perhaps even more than Dany or Jon, I’m really looking forward to see Joffery this season. Not because I love his character (who could?), but because I’m amazed by Jack Gleeson’s portrayal. Joffery, Sansa, Arya, I’m looking forward to see them more!

  • darquemode: HBO added the character profiles for Joffrey, Jon and Daenerys… and also the Seven Devils trailer to their onDemand. If they release 3 character profiles a week up to the premiere that would be 6 or 9 more I guess. Last year there was 15 so I’m thinking there’ll be more coming up in the next couple of weeks for this season. I’m really hoping for Sansa, Arya, Cersei, Tyrion, and DAVOS!!!!!!!!!

    Hear Me Roar,

I totally agree with you Re: Cersei! She looks amazing, especially in the latest trailer. They’ve really worked out some of her wig problems.

  • These are great. Stumbled upon some of these last night watching HBO. I’m really liking what I’m seeing from Lena Headey in these promos. Seems like she’s racheting up the “Cerseiness”.

  • sara: Is anyone gonna download the weapons video from HBO Go?

there’s new stuff with theon, davos, jeyne, robb and stannis.

It’s a lot harder to download some videos because of HBO’s encryption. The popup-style videos on HBOGo episodes is easy, but stand alone videos like the Weapons one are much harder. I’m going to take some screencaps for now and put them on the tumblr. Hopefully the entire video will be online shortly for everyone.

  • Michael Harper,

It is just the trailer. If I recall 1.46 secnds.

I have seen a shorter 59 second version on HBO too, but I did not watch it very closely or notice any new footage in it the one time I saw it from across the room. XD

  • Very nice! The cast is great, even though I thoroughly hate Joff, Jack Gleeson does a splendid job in what I think is one of the difficult roles to play. It is not easy being so hated and despised, but Gleeson perfectly inabits Joffrey’s disgusting personna!

Oh my, the scenes with Jon and Dany will be epic indeed…I’m so grateful to the cast, in this case Kit and Emilia for their dedication and hard work in elevating this TV show.

  • Jess,

    Hmm 15?

Wel I would expect Season 1’s returning cast to get profiles again.
Of course Viserys, Drogo, Ned and Robert are dead…
Then we add in Stannis, Melisandre, and Renly for sure…
Probably Davos, Brienne, Tywin and I’m not sure who they will play up in Jon or Dany’s stories exactly… Jorah and Sam, probably.

I would guess 16 or more this year. If they do 6 per week we could have 18.

So many aesome characters they could do 30 profiles and people (myself included) could still find beloved characters left out! XD

  • Joshua Taylor:
    Re: Lena Headey

    How does crow taste naysayers?

I gotta see it first to believe it. I’d really like her to shine in season 2, but that doesn’t wipe out the fact that she was horrible in season 1 (in my eyes). I must say she has her eyebrow better under control in the trailers, but maybe that sucker will pop up again in all the other scenes.

  • Yeah that’s the one that came out two days ago, we’ve got an entire post about it. :)

  • Joshua Taylor:
    Re: Lena Headey

    How does crow taste naysayers?

Liking her in split second glances and 2 second cuts in a trailer is far different than liking her in full scenes over the course of a season. I did not like her last year…. I hope to like her more this year.

I don’t see why I would be eating crow at all honestly. She may win me over during the season, but the trailers have not changed my opinion of Lena as Cersei whatsoever.

Regardless of how I think she is the worst cast of the roles.. she did not ruin or even lower my opinion of the series last year. She has her part, D&D have their vision of Cersei and it jsut did not match up to mine or the books IMO. She was the worst part of the series for me last year (aside from lack of Direwolves), but I hope I can adjust ot her this year since I doubt she will be any better or D&D will change their version of Cersei….

  • Knurk,

I wasn’t the biggest fan of hers last season either but these most recent trailers have impressed me with what I have seen thus far. She seems more vocal more competent. I think they wanted her muted last season, D and D I mean…and now with Robert dead she can be a bit more Cersei-ish. And that eyebrow is pure Lena, that’s something we just gave to deal with I’m afraid ;-)

  • Joshua Taylor: She seems more vocal more competent. I think they wanted her muted last season, D and D I mean…

yeah, that stupid whispering all the time was even worse than the eyebrow. Let’s hope they fixed that.

  • Poor Lena…so much to prove. I have a feeling it’s simply a case of miscasting from the beginning and sometimes no matter how much effort and talent…for some it may not be enough. I hope she knocks our socks off but I am an eternal optimist…

I wonder if some of it had to with her unfamiliarity with roles of nobility and her seemingly bohemian demeanor? Beyond Gorgo in 300 Lena’s played mostly blue collar tough girl roles and in personality she ain’t exactly Kate Winslett or Keira Knightley. She needs to channel Polly Walker or Sian Phillips. Maybe that’s what she is doing now. Unless D andD wanted her restrained in season 1 and have her unravel over the seasons…

  • Knurk,

I’m not sure I uploaded that one (I don’t think I did, but I do plan to upload a 1080p version if/when I catch it)….. I tried to record it on HBO but ended up with the Character Profiles instead…. I think… Loooooong day and a half. XD

I find it funny the official Game of thrones YT channel has it titled “Game of Thrones Season 1: the More You Love Trailer” XD Season 1? Seriously!

  • The kid who plays Joffery is an amazing actor. We always here about how good the “kids” are in the show but they never mention the actor who plays Joff. This kid deserves some love hes doing a great job creating the little shit!

  • Knurk,

I think that was a huge part of it last year for me too!

Between holding her mouth like she had marbles in it or jsut had teeth pulled, and that whispering thing…. Ack!

I digress. New season…. Dragons, Direwolves, shadowbabies and wildfire and all that!

  • BIG cudos to Jack Gleeson – he has quietly done a great job and his interview was very good. He definitely seems to understand Jeoffrey.

  • A video for Renly has been added to the Game of Thrones Youtube page as well!
I’ve embedded it into the original post above.

  • Glad Renly got his own video! I was wondering if Margery would , but she had a large part in his so maybe not…

Renly looks much more kingly and I love it. Brienne looks awesome TOWERING above everyone even 3 paces behind Renly and Catelyn! XD

    Loras, Loras, Loras!
Oh dear gods! That curly hair looks like a bad perm.. .even if it is natural!

  • I unfortunatly live in the wrong location to have access to HBO Go, but if you have issues decrypting the video, just fraps it with 100-ish fps until a proper version is released.

    Cheers,

  • That actually looks great; I’m pretty psyched for Renly this season. Especially if we get some juicy Loras/Margaery threeway action.

  • Ours is the Fury:
A video for Renly has been added to the Game of Thrones Youtube page as well!
I’ve embedded it into the original post above.

excellent. Love Margaery, Dormer seems to have a good grasp for the role. But what is up with: “My husband is my king, and my king is my husband.” Lolwut?

  • Ugh i’m so weak, i gave in and watched when the Renly video was posted. Loving Margery and Littlefinger *.*

  • – Emilia Clarke is SO great. I love her. I really prefer show Dany to books Dany, and I like that they’re giving Dany more to do in S2.
    – ahmygodJonSnowfangirlmoment… Kit, just when I think you can’t get any more gorgeous, you do… also got a glimpse of Dolorous Edd and Craster there, which is awesome.
-Jack Gleeson really is fantastic. I didn’t think it was possible for me to hate Joffrey any more than I already did, but Gleeson’s portrayal of him is just so venemous and foul. What a great little actor. It takes guts to play such a character, and real talent to play him so well.
CANNOT WAIT FOR SEASON 2 ANY. MORE.

  • Good to see both Margaery and Loras in the Renly video. It seems like they have toughened Renly up quite a bit this season, thankfully! But what the heck with Margaery’s dress? That neckline is pretty crazy – right up there with Cersei’s wigs in season 1! Love seeing Margaery and Littlefinger teasing each other out to see what’s what with the Tyrell / Baratheon marriage – both real players! Wonderful seeing all these snippets now that the premiere is drawing closer…

  • Wow. I loved the Renly video. Dormer is rocking as Margaery. Can’t wait for her scene with Littlefinger.

And yay for more Renly/Loras love. That one second moment with the two of them in bed already seems more natural than the one we got last season (though I still enjoyed that scene, just not the shaving!).

  • In the Jon video, I was kinda hopping to see Qorin Halfhand..
Does anyone know if he’s been cast or if he’s been cut off the show ? In that case it would be a great loss for the story…

Otherwise, awesome vids ! This season really looks more and more outstanding !(except for the aweful dress with weird collar Margaery is wearing..)

  • I think Lena is outstanding. She’s made me root for Cersei in ways that I never thought possible in the books, because she is gonna be one badass bitch (I mean that in a good way!!) I think of it as character correction. Martin botched her in AFFC by making all of her motives relate back to an idiotic prophecy.

  • Margaery was great but I have to see that one particular getup in action before I make judgment. And the sheer presence of Brienne was awesome. But the more I see of Stannis the better. Dillane has him down pat from what I’ve seen so far. Did he light the 7 with Lightbringer?

Whose the other noble with Stannis? Axell Florent? Or Courtney Penrose? Or Is that Davos?

  • The Renly video is very telling in where the showrunners are going with the adaptation of this second book. It clearly shows us where they have expanded certain storylines, and where they plan to deviate from the book a bit.

With that said, it’s the best of the four!

counting down the days now….can’t wait!

  • @winteriscoming.net

Great news for German ASoIaF lovers: From May 2012, the British Sky Atlantic HD will be available in Germany, along with the English original voices which are far better than the German dubs – plus, Season 2 will most likely be available in May :-)
Keep in mind that GoT had amazing TV-ratings on Sky Atlantic HD in the UK..
Germany is an important fantasy market with a relatively high percentage of the German population being fans of the genre. I think that will make HBO productions more famous over here and this can only be good for further seasons…

  • darquemode,

Thank you for the answer ! I didn’t think about going to the cast page straight away and I must have missed him in the trailers as well.

Anyway, the actor seems good for the role. Can’t wait !

  • 1) did they recast Loras? THE HAIR! ARGH!
    2) how renly says “when I take king’s landing” me no likey.. feels forced..
    3) I think Davos IS GONNA BE AWESOME!
    4) like how they delved more into the Renly-Margaery-Loras dyanmic.. at least now we get to really see whether or not Margaery was lying about her maidenhood!

  • The Renly video was great. It feels completely right that they put some focus on him and Margaery.

  • Who Is Jacopo Belbo?:
A fan made video that combines two of my favourite things … Major League Soccer* and Game of Thrones!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_jvCLgihlM&context=C4ea5b92ADvjVQa1PpcFPXQXTFmkbsiJn_FB8nnU77yQRcnBsrcCg=

    *though not necessarily RSL

    Love it!

I’m from America and I wish more Americans liked Euro soccer. My wife and I are not sports fans but we watched all of the World Cup and also truly enjoyed the Womens World Cup, too.

It is so much more graceful and interesting than American Football.

When we make fun of soccer, it just tells the world how goofy we are.

  • Youtube is going nuts with Tyrell fashiongate. Any opinions on Margaery’s weird collar? It looks better when you see the whole dress but up close it looks like it could have been borrowed from the costume design of the first Dune miniseries.

    HERP-DERP,

I think that Renly line was edited in, it seems they cut off what he was saying from before. Or that’s how I heard it.

  • wow just watched the Renly vid! I am reassured that they are doing Margaery correctly, she’s fully aware of the Loras situation and accepts it. I am pleased.

    However… WHAT IS SHE WEARING @1:10-1:23?!!? O_O

ETA: Great lightbringer shot (see the firemen over to the right??). And Dillane is looking terrifically Stannis-y @0:35 :)

  • Margaery looks like Lady Gaga in that dress. Cleavage is supposed to draw attention to a woman’s breasts. What the hell is that drawing attention towards? The figurative cuckold’s horns that Renly put on her head?

  • The Renly video is fantastic!! So many insights into the show. yay!! It’s got me excited about April 1st. again :D

    HERP-DERP:
    1) did they recast Loras? THE HAIR! ARGH!
    2) how renly says “when I take king’s landing” me no likey.. feels forced..

1- I asked the same thing when I saw Loras in the vid. Not sure, but it looks like a new guy to me.
    2- I agree
    3- Yep. :)
4- Agreed. The trinity, as the actress playing Marge called it, dynamic is gonna be interesting.

  • The Dany and Jon features need no comment; nothing that I can say will be any different from anything I’ve said about those two up until now. Both great characters played by talented actors, and both have an incredible journey ahead of them.

As for Joff, I’m really glad Jack Gleeson got a chance to be himself. I spend so much time hating on Joffrey that I sometimes forget that the actor is just a normal, well-mannered, cute kid. He really is one of the unsung heroes of the show. He does a fantastic job being terrible.

I’m also very excited that Gethin Anthony has seemed to grow into the Renly role we know from the books. In S1, Renly was much less bold/confident than I found him in the books, but it looks like the team has taken Renly to that place of confidence for S2. I also really like the way Gethin has been styled – the hair, costumes, etc. It’s all coming together really nicely.

On one hand, I’m glad we’ll have an onbviously smart, strong female character in Margaery. On the other hand, I’m still concerned about the age difference from the book (which was discussed at length, under much duress, during the Dormer casting thread). I’m also now a bit concerned about the fact that she seems to be so openly conniving. Maybe I haven’t seen enough and Margaery will be more ingenuous around “enemy characters,” or maybe her entire plot will be drastically changed, but I find it hard to believe that Cersei will allow this woman anywhere near her sons.

  • I love that they are expanding Margaery’s character as she is not only wants power but she is quite clever and full of strategy..thanks to the Queen and Thorns…Natalie Dormer is kicking arse..she seem to have a good understanding of the character and performs the role well

  • Good shot of Stannis drawing the Lightbringer. The discussion of Stannis, Davos et al. is from the first episode, since we can see that Cressen is present as well; it’s probably by the painted table.

  • Lina,

I’ve always seen Margaery as a strategist trying to pass as an angel while reading the books. It does seem she’s a bit more… obvious about her intentions in the show. I’d love to see playing dumb in Cersei’s presence, but I’m not sure they’ll run with that.

  • I’d just have to add that I think Brienne looks absolutely awesome. The scene where she’s walking behind Renly and Cat, even with the perspective distance she towers over them both, and she just exudes presence and strength.

I am going to love watching her.

  • Let Costume Gate begin. Don’t like the cone of shame..Not crazy about the shoulder flap dress either , but it’s better. I had hoped Margaery would come along and improve women’s fashion in KL. Nope.

  • I like Margaery’s dresses. All the houses look different and since the Lannisters already have the luxurious and proper style I think it’s fitting that the other rich powerhouse is a bit more daring.

Especially the cone dress makes it far from just another rip off off our own medieval times, which the show has done a good job of keeping away from. It’s more important to stand out in that way on the TV show than in the books.

I can see why some people won’t like them though and, as usual, the negatives will be picked out and discussed far more than all the positives.

  • So is it going to be completely laughable with the Tyrells try to pass Margery off as a virgin? They need to give Tyrion some smartass thing to say about that.

  • dizzy_34: So is it going to be completely laughable with the Tyrells try to pass Margery off as a virgin? They need to give Tyrion some smartass thing to say about that.

“A man may prefer the taste of hippocras, yet if you set a tankard of ale before him, he will quaff it quick enough.” -Cersei

Straight from the books and says it all! Tyrion doesn’t have a monopoly on clever quips, nor should he. :)

  • Tywin’s Bastard&Joshua Taylor,

Glad to see at least two guys at the same side of the fence. I like the cone dress design, it immediately draws your eye to the wearer and sends the signal: “This lass is going to be important to the story”.

  • I think HBO is intentionally torturing us…
little finger and Margeary?awesome!Joffrey being an even bigger dick that he was in the books?awesome!
Jon ‘s story made action ?nice!

  • HERP-DERP: did they recast Loras? THE HAIR! ARGH!

Even if you couldn’t recognize Finn Jones’s face, I would think the caption on the screen that says “FINN JONES” might be a clue that it’s the same guy.

His hair looks different because this is Jones’s real hair; he had a wig last season. I would ask what your problem is with it, but that’s a pointless question on this board where anything always looks terrible to someone.

  • I’m impressed by Jack Gleeson. He has done an amazing job in season 1, and from this brief preview we can see he is going to be outstanding in season 2 as well. Very talented actor.

Something in the Renly video puts me off though.

  • So many videos in so short time!!!! So excited!
    Now it’s Renly’s time:
1 – I don’t like how he says the first speech, when he says “when we take King’s Landing”. It doesn’t sound real…
2 – Davos, again, looks awesome. And also Stannis and Brienne
3 – I’m glad they are giving more attention to Margaery, that talk with Littlefinger looks fantastic!
4 – The fact that they will also explore the relation between Loras and Renly and the implications on Margaery, seems interesting!

It’s getting closer and closer, guys!!! Almost April!! :)

  • Black Lion:
I like the cone dress design, it immediately draws your eye to the wearer and sends the signal: “This lass is going to be important to the story”.

It’s also a reminder that the various houses aren’t just families the way we think of families, they really have their own cultures in some ways. I think Michelle Clapton did a great job with that in season 1– the clothes in the Vale could never be mistaken for anywhere else, the dorky little hats on all the Freys were appropriate for the shabby conformity of that family, etc. We’ve already seen from Loras’s insane tournament armor that the Tyrells like to wear things that may look bizarre to everyone else but are undeniably expensive as hell; that’s a privilege of celebrity, just look at the dresses at the Oscars.

  • Tywin’s Bastard:
Especially the cone dress makes it far from just another rip off off our own medieval times, which the show has done a good job of keeping away from. It’s more important to stand out in that way on the TV show than in the books.

Well she could drown if she’s caught in rainstorm in that thing. :p

  • I think they’ve done a fantastic job with the Men’s costumes and armor. The women, not so much. Nothing I’ve seen as far as women’s fashion in season one or now season two has blown me away. Poor Catelyn, I always think she looks like a pauper. One of the reasons I’m drawn to period pieces is I like to see all the pretty dresses and jewels and stuff. I’m a girly girl in that regard I guess. I loved watching the Tudors and The Borgias (amongst other things) to see the clothes the women were wearing, the fabrics, the patterns, embroidery, jewelry and sparkly stuff. This show as far as woman’s clothing has no pizzazz to me, even the color palettes they are using are very muted.

I mean, Margery is supposed to be very rich…does she look like she has loads of money with those outfits? I kind of thought the same thing when I saw Cersei in season one.

It is what it is, I guess I’m kind of used to it by now though. It’s just a small, personal, disappointment of mine.

  • OMG Marg s dress is horrible! :D

But everything else just kicks ass!

I am absolutely stunned by Jack Gleeson – he is fantastic even in those few scenes we got to see. “..that would be all, mother!..”
Margery is..well (apart from the dress) interesting. All at once I realised how little we know about her from the books.
Despite obvious age difference: I am not so sceptical anymore on this casting decision.
Still wondering about the super-granny joining the Tyrell pack in S3?

  • Screw it, I’ll spoiler code the whole thing: I always thought the Margaery as a virgin was preposterous, a clear lie that Cersei was just pissed they couldn’t disprove. A notable weakness of Stannis as the heir is that he has no sons and that’s partly why his wife sought Melisandre’s help, because Selyse was praying for sons. Even though Renly’s gay, he would’ve still managed to have sex with his wife if only to work on getting an heir.I think Margaery’s smart enough to know as well how important it is, and certainly her family like Lady Olenna would remind her of that if Margery failed to consider it.

  • Oh, and I love Finn Jones’s natural hair. Gorgeous and so Loras.

And though I find Margaery’s dress hilarious, it does have an authentic medieval feel to it.

  • Oh god, more Loras-Renly business *shudder* … Well, I suppose that would explain all of the talk in the books where Margaery insists she is still a Maiden before marrying Joffery, and Tomen…

Big up to Jack Gleeson… great actor! We don’t hate him, just his character ;)

  • The Rabbit:

Still wondering about the super-granny joining the Tyrell pack in S3?

I’ve been thinking about that and… the fact that they’ve aged Margaery quite a bit and are making it obvious that she’s a strategist AND are showing what could be the beginning of a partnership between her and Littlefinger… all that makes me think that maybe Margaery will replace the Queen of Thornes as the mind behind the Tyrells and we won’t see the old woman in the show.

  • also…does anyone else here think we’re going to see… a Threesome?!?!?

I’m just getting that impression for some reason…

I hope we’re all adults here and nobody is offended by what I am suggesting.

  • MetalgoddessAMB,

Hey we can make a girly girl fashion discussion of this tread. ;)

Yeah, agreed with almost you said – with the exception of Sansa s dress during the tournament in S1 Dany s wedding dress and all of outfits of Mel and Cersei in trailers for S2!

Still – Margery outfits – big disappointement!

  • Ours is the Fury,

Agreed in both accounts. Loras looks much better without the wig! And the dress is fun. I like what you guys are saying about the Tyrells being rich and extravagant, as opposed to the classic Lannisters. It makes sense. They have flair!

  • MetalgoddessAMB,

Have you see the red dress that Cersei is wearing in the previews? It’s a million times better than in season 1, not to mention Melisandre’s? That’s my opinion of course. I think with the Margaery exception they have improved the female wardrobe incredibly from what we have seen thus far.

  • Aw, I liked Catelyn’s dresses in Season 1. Though I prefer her with her hair down, like in episode 1.

  • I agree, that sounded (and looked) awful. There’s got to be something else going on with that scene that shed some context on it. I sure hope so.

Oh – and I hate her dress. But I feel that’s insignificant. No worse than somebody wearing a dumb shirt that I see walking down the street. I saw it, thought “I hate that dress” and moved on.

    The trailer is fantastic.

Robbet: 1 – I don’t like how he says the first speech, when he says “when we take King’s Landing”. It doesn’t sound real…

  • Wow, Jack Gleeson is awesome in the Joffrey featurette. He just tells off Cersei like it ain’t no thing :D

Also, Renly’s s2 look is very nice and much better than s1. Can’t wait.

  • MetalgoddessAMB: also…does anyone else here think we’re going to see… a Threesome?!?!?
I’m just getting that impression for some reason…

Yes! This is always what I imagined happened, though it’s a teeeeeensy bit f’ed up since there’s also incest involved in this particular threesome… :)

Stannis4life: Oh god, more Loras-Renly business *shudder* …

    Oh god, more homophobia *shudder*

  • I do think Cersei looks better dressed in season two so far. I am glad of that. I was just expecting Margery in brighter colors ( I’m thinking of bright colorful flowers, as in the “garden” theme of Highgarden) with more extravagance , more jewels maybe, to relay the fact of just how rich her house is.

  • europ,

Pay TV has never been successful in Germany, except for sports (especially boxing, soccer and formula 1). Additionally, the German fantasy market is rather detached from those in many anglophone countries, because many foreign novels never find a German publisher or are translated in a stupendously horrible way or simply bust commercially. Martin, for example, has never been that successful in Germany, where may fantasy-readers share a love for generic, tolkienesque and juvenile writers (or hacks) like Heitz.
I very much doubt that Sky will pull in a significant number of new customers with Game of Thrones in Germany. Those who know Martin and the HBO series over here get it on the internet and buy the DVDs and BRs. They are unlikely to purchase an expensive Pay TV channel.

  • Hi-Fi,

Yeah, I agree with you about that. I never for a second doubted Margaery’s role as a strategist. But there’s a big difference between being openly shrewd and being a teenage girl who pretends to be…just a teenage girl. In the books, she’s all about trying to get her enemies to underestimate her. In the show, she looks like she’s coming on full-force with. I’m just interested to see how that changes things. Now, to be fair, that clip only shows her with Renly and Littlefinger, so maybe she’ll put on more innocent airs around the Lannisters.

  • I have to say, HBO is doing a pretty brilliant job of building unbearable anticipation for Season 2. I want these character promos for EVERYONE, especially the new characters. Probably not going to get them, but I would love to see one for Davos, and especially ones for Brienne and Asha/Yara – finally got a glimpse of the second in the Love trailer the other day, and if they build her character to be as important as it is in the books where the Greyjoys are concerned, we are going to have some pretty strong, ass-kicking female characters on this show. Can’t wait to see her in that scene, and then later when she is no longer “in disguise,” so to speak. I hope that actress really nails it – I know there has been a lot of worry given her unproven track-record.

I don’t think my blu-ray set of season 1 is going to be enough to get me through the next couple of weeks. More promo teasers, please!

  • Knurk: but maybe that sucker will pop up again in all the other scenes.

lol. I hope not (although is a trade mark of hers). I think D&D chose LH for a reason: that intellectual look she has that match what they think about Cersei (perhaps). I hope they have changed their minds about the character. We´ll see.

  • Lina,

Big spoilers underneath for non-book readers.

Hmm I do wonder too if we are going to get a Queen of Thorns. I think that might be why they moved up Littlefinger’s arrival in Renly’s camp, so they could establish a relationship between Margaery and him. It gives her a much bigger dramatic stake in killing Joffrey, if it’s something that she and Baelish cook up together instead of her grandmother. But I always thought one of the most important things about Joffrey being killed on Margaery’s behalf, rather than say directly by Marg, is that it made it easier for her to be shocked. This would be a really big change, and as well that there would be no Olenna for Varys to cast suspicion on for Tyrion’s escape.

  • In the books Margaery didn’t seem like a real person to me (What does she want? What does she worship or whom does she aspire to be? What quirks does she have?).

I think the dress looks better in the dark with shadows playing on it XD

  • Awesome videos!! I loved all of them, the Dany one got me hoping that Irri may well survive (I’m gonna be really sad if she does get cut instead of now-a-brunette Doreah). I don’t like the way Dany says all her bada$$ stuff; she sounds unconvincing and too agressive. I believe her strength would have been conveyed much more efficiently if it were shown in her calm, determined confidence.

This is the first time I ever really felt protective of Sansa. I’ve never disliked her, but seeing him treat her like that … Poor child. I think people never give her the credit for her personal growth and strength.

But it was the Renly vid that really intrigued me. The (by now infamous) cone dress doesn’t bother me the slightest; au contrair, I quite like it. The Tyrells are flamboyant, after all (as it has been pointed out numerous times). That brings me to the dressgate; I, too, imagined outfits in general to be way more colorful, detailed, extravagant. I imagined Cersei wearing soft falling silk dresses, designed to hide little. And I seriously don’t know why they put those impossibly long sleeves on Sansa. But – that said – I’m sure they’re following someone’s vision, and all the armours look great to my eyes. And I wouldn’t say the costumes are trivial or irrelevant; the story takes place in a fictional land and naturally the visual aspects are an important part of what takes you there (along with sets and stuff).

But, yeah, back to videos; I loved the Renly one; it takes us to a great place. I agree with Lina when she voiced her concern about Margaery being too openly conniving. I always thought she was mostly charismatic, acceptable, all in a really sweet way; I thought her cunning was quite concealed. She was enormously popular among courtiers and commoners alike and I’d say her easy manners were her defining characteristic (sure, she’s power-hungry and scheming as well but not as outwardly as Cersei). I really hope Natalie won’t just reprise Anne Boleyn, she has got to be lovable first and foremost (and while Anne was a femme fatale, she wasn’t exactly what you’d call endearing. I don’t picture Margaery as femme fatale at all, maybe rather fille fatale).

The show’s Renly seems to be getting closer to the Renly in my head and I’m extremely pleased with that. He doesn’t have that easy-going, flamboyant charm the book Renly had in my opinion, but I like the direction they have taken him nonetheless.

By the way – has anyone else noticed how Renly (and the rest) seem to be pronouncing Tyrell as – Ti-rEll but both Natalie and Finn say TI-rell?

Edit: Do you think we’re only gonna get Character profiles for characters we already know?

  • Ash,

    I did. :)

But come on HBO, can we have a Stannis featurette pweeease? I’ll never ask for anything else in my life. Sort of.

  • Looks like they’re going to make Marg more cunning and aware of the game rather than how I saw here portrayed in the books. I can’t wait to see her wind Cersei up next season.

  • ack, anyone else hope they cut/re-do that Renly line “when i take King’s Landing!”

the delivery/facial expression is just not. good.

    everything else I love though!

  • darquemode: Jess, Hmm 15?Wel I would expect Season 1′s returning cast to get profiles again.Of course Viserys, Drogo, Ned and Robert are dead…Then we add in Stannis, Melisandre, and Renly for sure…Probably Davos, Brienne, Tywin and I’m not sure who they will play up in Jon or Dany’s stories exactly… Jorah and Sam, probably.I would guess 16 or more this year. If they do 6 per week we could have 18.So many aesome characters they could do 30 profiles and people (myself included) could still find beloved characters left out! XD

I don’t know how many they aired during promo season last year since I didn’t watch GOT until Peter Dinklage pocketed the Emmy but on the blu-ray’s “Character Profiles” thingie, it was 15 since I just watched all of them in a row for a couple of times since I got the discs.

Yes, there definitely wouldn’t be “too many” profiles. I’m down with everyone getting one! lol

Ours is the Fury: Screw it, I’ll spoiler code the whole thing: I always thought the Margaery as a virgin was preposterous, a clear lie that Cersei was just pissed they couldn’t disprove.

Yes. I thought it was a ridiculous notion too. I mean, especially seeing what these people go through at the wedding banquet eg tearing off the bride’s clothes and sending the newlyweds to a bedroom a la Edmure’s wedding. I’m also pretty sure that Renley’s had sex with women before. Just my notion, but I feel like in this world, even if you’re gay (not just bi, 100% gay) but in Renley’s position, you’d still be dancing with the finer sex, even if it’s just to keep up with appearences.

  • Skipjack,

I think you have a really good guess there. The only other thing I can think of (plot-wise, anyway) that would warrant a meeting between Littlefinger and Margaery is if the Tyrell-Lannister alliance he brokers is completed through negotiations with her and not Mace.

On an unrelated note, the overly-structured Margaery costume is kind of awful, but I quite like her gown at the tourney. I always imagined Highgarden fashion to be carefree and flowy, but really rich and embellished at the same time. I wish we’d been able to see a wedding dress, but I’ll look for that in future seasons. :)

  • Ours is the Fury: Stannis4life, YAY MORE LORAS-RENLY BUSINESS!

    YES!!! XD

Concerning Marg, I like her dress okay. But I’m also concerned by how much she’s revealing to LF. It’s weird to see her talk so openly with him… it’s like playing poker with a master (!) gambler but deciding to show him all your cards…

  • Meg,

Regarding Margaery, I always thought she was very much her grandmother’s playing piece, and learning from the old girl as she went. Lord Tyrell was none too swift, and her mom seemed more like an auspicious marriage but not a player, but grandma….you could tell she was very close to the Queen of Thorns and that Grandma was using Margaery as her best playing piece to work whomever was in charge in King’s Landing. I think in the books, Maergary had a sweet side, but underneath it was Tyrell steel and she was learning to play the game from her grandmother. It would be a terrible shame if they cut the Q of T from the series – her quips to Cersei would not be nearly as funny coming from Margaery!

  • userj: Yes!This is always what I imagined happened, though it’s a teeeeeensy bit f’ed up since there’s also incest involved in this particular threesome…:)

    Oh god, more homophobia *shudder*

Why does it have to be “homophobia”? Can’t it just be “homo no like” ? Or “homo don’t wanna see” ?

Who are you to claim he’s scared of something?

  • I like that Renly is a little unsure-sounding in these bits. It may not be quite consistent with the Reny-in-Book-Form, but I think it works well for the Reny-in-HBO-Form that we saw last season. He’s trying to figure it out.

I also think it’s nice to see Renly’s army look more formidable here. I always thought the Renly arc was a little rushed in CoK and he was dead before he really got things going.

  • I don’t see why they would cut the Queen of Thorns. She only has to be there for a few episodes, and as far as we know she is only a book 3 character meaning they can have a contract for 1-2 seasons with the actress. Of course if she turns out to have a large role in WoW, it would be more problematic to introduce her early.

  • OMG!!!

    1. I hate Joffery

    2. Daenerys is so BAD ASS!!!! Im rooting for her!! :)

    3. I LOVE that they have tied in Renly, Loras and Margery as a “Love Triangle” Thats so hot!!

Also Margery is kick ass in these clips! Im glad they wrote in dialogue for her seeing that she becomes pretty important.

I just cant be more excited!!

    AB

  • MetalgoddessAMB,

Isn’t it curious how the idea of incest, in real life, is so utterly unbearable (to me, at any rate), and yet in film/literature it is so…intriguing? I mean the relationship between Cersei and Jaime and its far-reaching repercussions is one of the most fascinating things about this series, not to mention the Pharaonic Targaryens. Same goes for other shows depicting incestuous love-affairs, such as Rome (Octavius and his older sister Octavia), and most recently Tom Fontana’s (mostly excellent) Borgia, wherein the prevalent rumour of the carnal nature of the great love between Cesare Borgia and his sister Lucrezia is explored.
Is it because the culprits are invariably so physically attractive as to render the viewing of them in any sexualised situation, even a perverse one, irresistibly stimulating, or does it go deeper than that, deeper perhaps than what any of us would care consider? Naturally, I’ve no way of knowing whether we might see the “very interesting trinity” that is ‘Renlorgaery’ (Gods, that’s a mouthful, isn’t it? No pun intended) in any homo-incestuous menage-a-trois, but I really hope we don’t, because that might be a bit TOO weird, even for me.

P.S: To anyone who might have been offended, or worse, by my comment – I apologise. I’ve a dark little mind, but then I suppose that’s why I like A Song of Ice and Fire so much…

  • Stannis4life:
Oh god, more Loras-Renly business *shudder* … Well, I suppose that would explain all of the talk in the books where Margaery insists she is still a Maiden before marrying Joffery, and Tomen…

Homophobia is just so de rigueur.

  • Here’s hoping for more of these tomorrow! As much as I’d like one for Stannis, I think I’d like Featurettes on Catelyn, Robb, Arya, Bran, and Sansa Stark!

  • Yes! Another character video :) It’s good to hear from Natalie Dormer. I actually like her dress—it’s strange and a bit avant garde, which I think is appropriate. She is nothing like the Margaery I picture from the books, but I think she might be a bit more interesting. To me, Margaery was very sweet, friendly, loved by all—and did not seem to be scheming. I hope that’s how Natalie plays her. It will be quite strange when both Renly and Joffrey die and she is married to Tommen, lol. Also, I hope they have a good love scene between Renly and Loras. I do not want a threesome between Renly, Loras, and Margaery, though. There’s already plenty of incest in Westeros; no need for anymore (unless Cersei’s crazy assumptions have merit).

As for Renly’s strange delivery of, “when I take King’s Landing,” I think we need to see it in context. There were a couple times during season 1’s previews where I thought line deliveries seemed to lack emotion; in context, they worked very well.

I am so happy to see Brienne in relation to the other character. My goodness, she is so tall and badass in her armor! I look forward to her portrayal and hope we get a fair amount of dialogue from her.

HBO, do Stannis next! I would love to hear from Stannis, Melisandre, and Davos.

  • Dreamlife: There were a couple times during season 1′s previews where I thought line deliveries seemed to lack emotion; in context, they worked very well.

remember the Ned-line in one of the first trailers where he said: “I was trained to kill”? Seemed extremely corny, because they cut the sentence in half and we had absolutely zero context. In the end it worked pretty well in the episode itself.

  • OMG!!! Not to change topics randomly but Ser Gregor Clegane aka The Mountain is now in Starz Spartacus. He was in its last episode and he looks huge even next to all those already huge Spartacus gladiator cast and crew. Truley epic looking warrior, just like the books!

He is all muscle and just bada$$ looking!

  • Ha!
Someone flagged my Daenerys Character Profile video for content inappropriate!
    I don’t know if I should laugh or scowl….

  • Haha the actor who played the mountain got killed by Spartacus… He literally got his face got in half and his brains fell out.

They were playing Nordic guys… Was pretty funny!

  • poguemahone,

I can still hear him shout demands at the Small Council ( moments after King Robert’s death)
” I wish to be Crowned by the fortnight ” talk about presidential. Harry Potter’s foe Malfoy
could not even rise to the occasion, actually not Daniel Radcliffe either.

  • mummer,

Wow, so glad he’s going natural, that straight wig was hideous. I’d actually thought a less than attractive ser Loras was depicted in s1.

  • Love the Renly vid! Yeah, Marge’s dress is a little out there, but hey, it certainly got people talking.

    Magnus,

She also appears in AFFC, but returns to Highgarden pretty early in the book, so still a relatively small, but absolutely amazing, role. QoT is one of my all time faves, so if they cut her, I gots ta cut ‘dem!

  • Meg,

With a grandmother portrayed as the Queen of Thorns, I’d say there is much that
meets the eyefor lady Margaery. Her story is still evolving. In GoT she is played by
actress whose name escapes me but last seen on ” The Fades” portraying a dead
    angelic.

  • andrea:
    Who Is Jacopo Belbo?,

¡Yay!Epic music for an epic sport! Those are perfect soccer fields (canchas). That´s real grass? ( I know is stupid question but they´re incredible)
    Where´sMessi? ;)

it is a fan made video of a team called Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer (the top US soccer league) based in Salt Lake City, Utah. that is a real grass field at their home stadium called Rio Tinto Stadium (cap. 20,008)

  • userj,

Ed: Why does it have to be “homophobia”? Can’t it just be “homo no like” ? Or “homo don’t wanna see” ?

Who are you to claim he’s scared of something?

I’m sorry but “Oh God, more Loras-Renly Business *shudder*” is a homophobic comment. My reply was a light hearted attempt (phrased in the same way) meant to take the wind out of his/her sails.

…And for that matter you know very well that homophobic in general usage is short hand for “gay hating” or “discriminatory towards gays” and may not actually involve a phobia in the textbook sense.

  • my favorite comment so far about Marge’s dress,

“When Renly’s bored he throws peaches in it”

  • Holy hell, I love Margaery’s dresses. All of them. Dreamlife and others have it right; Avant Garde has come to Highgarden!

Seriously, what other family on Westeros could get away with fashion like that?

I can’t even begin to imagine what they’ll wear when they strut down the length of the Red Keep throne room, basking in the glow of victory, just to show the Lannisters what money really looks like.

  • Arthur:
Omg what happened?Looks like I was excited for nothing.Who is the guy in his place now???

Another really tall guy, Ian Whyte, who’s done mostly stunt work. It’s not clear why Stevens was replaced– he said a few cryptic things that sounded like he had wanted to keep doing it, but it could have been anything from a disagreement with the showrunners to just a schedule conflict. It’s too bad, I liked him, but I guess if the role ever had to be recast it’s better that they did it early on when Gregor had barely had any lines yet.

  • Stella Maris,

Either Smith or Siann Phillips. I would die if they cast Siann Phillips. But I’ve been singing this tune quite a lot so….

As for Olenna being written out…nah, she’ll just be way older because Margaery is older and I can see her in season 3 showing up for the wedding and proving to be Margaery’s mentor, not to mention she can still plot with Littlefinger to poison Joffrey without Margaery’s knowledge.

  • Margaery looks awesome. I always liked Natalie Dormer in the Tudors and I think I can really get behind the ‘changes’ made with the character (age) of Margaery. Plus her clothes look absolutely fantastic.

I also just received my Bluray (thanks to amazon.co.uk and their generous no postage on shipments to Holland,) so I heve my next few evenings sorted out.

  • I don’t remember anymore where I read this (an interview with D&D?), but somewhere somebody mentioned that HBO didn’t have anything against any of the scenes in the first season, but in some places during the second season they asked, “Are you really going to show this?” To which the showrunners answered, “Why, yes, we are!”

Based on the ending of the Renly trailer I am making a prediction that one of these totally f*cked up scenes will be a sort of a 3some between Renly, Loras and Margaery.

I will now give you some time to wrap your head around this idea :)

  • mummer,

I recall reading that it was a scheduling conflict. I think he was in New Zealand working on The Hobbit when Season 2 was filming.

  • Oh please dear goodness not another love scene between Loras and Renly and oh please not another sibling love scene!

  • the Kneeling Knight,

Your name is ironic to your request. ;)

Furthermore I found it to be absolutely inevitable that we get at least one love scene between Renly and Loras in S2. If they had one in the first season they most certainly will in the second. I don’t have any problems with that though. It seems reasonable.

  • mummer,

Thanks for the info. I looked him up. he is some really tall skinny dude that has played in lots of hollywood movies, I think most notably “The Predator” where he played the predator. He is very tall but has no muscle bulk and in all those movies it looked like his custom contained fake plastic muscles to make him look bigger.

I guess he can be a good Gregor Clegane if they bulk him up with fake muscle like the other movies had done. But it still sucks that big dude with real muscle won’t play him anymore. He probably breached his contract for that tiny role in Spartacus…

  • Tywin’s Bastard:

The text all but tells us they had sex the night before Renly was killed. “We… prayed together.” It’s completely absurd that anyone would be against showing this.

  • Hahaha. I’m really just being a troll more than anything. Reading the books its pretty clear whats going on, so it’s obviously going to be included in the show. Loras should have been paying more attention towards being a good body guard though…

  • I’m not sure I like the direction the series is taking with Renly this season. Gethin Anthony’s portrayal is so serious compared to the character in the books. ASoIAF can be such a grim series at times. A few characters that actually laughs or cracks a joke every now helps to keep the mood from getting too dark.

It’s something I don’t like about the show’s version of Littelfinger either.
