HBO is currently running a hashtag promotion through Twitter and their HBO Connect site. They are asking fans on Twitter to describe Game of Thrones in 140 characters or less, using the hashtag #got140, while incorporating a specific keyword. Today that keyword is “betray” although they have also used “power”, “war”, “honor” and, my personal favorite, “winter”. There will be a new word every day, leading up to the season two premiere on April 1st.
The tweets are then pulled and displayed on HBO Connect for all to see. To make things even easier, they have set it up so you can tweet directly from HBO Connect.
Winter Is Coming: Just another way that HBO continues to market this show. It may not be as flashy and exciting as trailers or posters, but if it gets fans involved, I am all for it. Plus it’s kinda cool to see your tweet show up on HBO’s site!

I had noticed this on Twitter but didn’t realize they were pulling the tweets so thanks for posting.

I love things like this and the “Your Head on a Pike” on FB, anything to get the fans really involved! I missed the first 3 words, but I’ll definitely be playing along from now on.

great….they should also start taking suggesions for the future seasons from the dedicated fans and experts like westeros.org and wic.net people who are more close to the reader fans and can represent their ideas about changes in seasons to come.

Jenish Kachhadia,
Well.. they do already have GRRM on the team.
MagnusQuote Reply
Magnus,
well GRRM should be spared for most of the decisions except the changes otherwise the ice and fire series will be in limbo for too long and similar to westeros our world is too perilous…i dont want to die b4 the end. ;)

I don’t want to authorize HBO to view my twitter so I’ll just post my 140 here:
“To betray or not to betray, that is a question none need ponder unless they be Greyjoy or Frey.”
My sincere thanks and apologies to Shakespeare. :)

Dee,
I like it, but it could be construed as a bit spoilerish, don’t you think?

Yes, I guess It is vaguely spoilerish, but it’s the best I could do in a pinch. Perhaps a should have added a spoiler tag.
ETA:
Also, I can’t help thinking Greyjoy and Frey when I think of the word betray. It’s a word association must.

I would prefer that they lower the prices on some of the GoT merchandise instead.

Totally OT but I found a glimpse of the new Essos map at the Polish HBO site: http://www.hbo.pl/siteimages/uploadedfiles/Poland/got_art1/screen4(1)(2).jpg

lonas,
It is awsome, but not canon, so it probably has incorrect info.

Isn’t it about time actors do the talk show circuit–where they typically bring a clip? I’m about trailer’d out. I want to see some actual dialogue.
