HBO has released two new Game of Thrones promos, featuring tweets pulled from the #got140 campaign. They also give us a few glimpses at some interesting new footage. The videos are below while screencaps of the good stuff can be found on our Tumblr.
Winter Is Coming: Any of you get your tweets into these vids? Granted, it’s not as cool as getting into our Twitter recap, but still pretty cool!

Yeah, I wonder why no renewal yet?

That scene where Cersei is pushing Tyrion looks amazing even if it’s a quick flash.

My Speculation: They are probably waiting for the 2nd episode ratings to make sure that the high numbers stay steady before announcing season 3 and 4.

I don’t think there is a question that they’ve renewed Season 3. I’m curious to see if they renew 3 and 4 simultaneously.
HBO, this is the opportune moment. We’re dying here. Just send out the press release already! :p

Maybe there hasn’t been a renewal because of Spring Break?

Renew for season 3 so I can start looking forward to the RW!

Dying is right, I keep checking WiC every 20 mins to look for renewal news. I’m usually more of a lurker but I need confirmation dangit! I know it’s like 99.9% guaranteed we are getting a 3rd season but it’s the official word that will help me sleep at night…

HBO sucks for not announcing the renewal already . It’s been four days for fucks sake .
Claudiu GherganuQuote Reply
Yes, it’s only been four days. I don’t understand the teeth-gnashing, to be honest. It’ll happen soon. :)

Ours is the Fury,
I think it’s because we got the renewal notice so early last year. That, and the fact that they did renew Luck almost immediately as well, so they’ve set a bit of a precedent.
(Then again, maybe we shouldn’t go by what happened with Luck? Yikes.)

Nice… Pretty badass… Still my favorite clips are the “Pledge You Allegiance”, clips…
Whenever I watch the House Stark one, I am ready to put my House Stark shirt on and kill some Lannisters… Heh

I’m hoping for renewal sometime soon, but it seems likely the relevant people are on holiday over Easter- and this probably wasn’t top of the pile of very urgent stuff to do before they left. I don’t know how long people are usually off work for in the USA but probably we won’t hear anything until at least after Easter Monday?

wow crazy Cersei…or a snake attack? I like it.
Is it my computer or the sound is really terrible?

Given that HBO Go released episode 12 a week early in Europe – prompting immediate global pirating – I doubt the Nielsen ratings for it in the US will provide a useful basis for making that decision. If I were HBO, I’d try to hold off until I see the results of episodes 13 and 14 before making any official announcement, while privately reassuring the production team and actors that the commitment-in-principle still stands.
Also, keep in mind that HBO is subscriber-based and more vertically consolidated than most other networks. For example: while Showtime’s breakout hit ‘Homeland’ just got a Peabody, it was actually produced by Fox, which has retained the rights for international distribution. By contrast, HBO owns GoT outright, including worldwide distribution rights in any medium, DVD/Blu-Ray sales etc.
The subscriber base in the US has held steady at around 28 million for a number of years, which is a good result for a premium entertainment outfit in a severe recession. Europe arguably offers more low-hanging fruit and GoT content the primary instrument for plucking it. However, HBO Netherlands publicly confirming they intended to sustain early releases on HBO Go it all season long and then being forced to reverse themselves suggests massive internal disagreement on how best to leverage that asset.
It will take at least a few weeks for that particular dust to settle and, delaying the announcement regarding a possible (probable? almost certain?) series 3 could simply be a way for HQ to force HBO’s European operations into line. A Clash of Kings, indeed!

And Boardwalk, and Treme (I think) all got 2nd day renewal announcements.
LexQuote Reply
I wonder how much difference overseas viewing figures make? I imagine HBO owned channels will matter, but do they care how many people watch Sky Atlantic, as long as Sky pay a lot of money for the rights? Just curious.
ShinyteapotQuote Reply
not for their third seasons, those renewals took a few weeks.

I’ve just had a really random thought, again COMPLETELY off topic, but I was doing some French Homework, and I realized the word SEPT, the french word for SEVEN, is SEPT as in the place of worship in Westeros. Seven Gods? Sept, Seven, Sept, Seven, Sept. I dunno if it’s just be talking crap, and maybe it’s been mentioned before, but I just thought that it was probably more than a coincidence, anybody know anything?
DraigQuote Reply
Ours is the Fury,
Like others have said last year they announce it two days after the premiere . Now considering that Luck which was a ratings failure was renewed so fast it’s kind of an insult that one of HBO’s biggest shows is not renewed already . The only way I will forgive them for this is if they announce season 3 and 4 at the same time if not I’m considering to cancel the channel especially as it expensive as shit and only watching for GOT .
Claudiu GherganuQuote Reply
Draig,
Sept is definitely from the Latin for seven, and the connection is definitely intentional.
Incidentally, I always liked how SEPTember, OCTober, NOVember, DECember mean 7, 8, 9, 10, but the months are actually off by two (for reasons I won’t get into here).
LexQuote Reply
I’m glad I’m not the only one!
ElaineQuote Reply
They why don’t we call our seventh month September?
September, October, November, and December follow the Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec prefixes for 7, 8, 9, and 10.
sbj2k1Quote Reply
sbj2k1,
Because, according to tradition, the Roman calendar only had ten months initially, with January and February being added later.
Edit: Quick response to Winter,
July and August we’re renamed, not added.
MachaQuote Reply
Is it because the Romans added the months of July and August, named after Julius and Augustus?
EDIT: I see Macha has answered my question.
Winter Is ComingQuote Reply
Thanks Macha and WiC.
Good to know.
sbj2k1Quote Reply
if you pay attention the last couple of years HBO always renews their new shows for a second season immediately, no matter what. The third season-renewals however never come this quickly, so don’t feel insulted.

Has anyone posted yet about the Season 2 Thronecast uncut interviews with the cast?
http://skyatlantic.sky.com/shows/game-of-thrones
The Charles Dance one is great even though it has MAJOR spoilers.
Might be old news but I only found them today.
SapphirethQuote Reply
I always thought differently: It’s because the Roman year started with the spring (and not as our year which illogically starts in the middle of winter), and March being the first spring month it was the first month of the year too. And if March is the first month, then September is the seventh month etc.
In life, I’m usually right, btw.
RamsaySnowQuote Reply
March was the 1st month.
So, a Septa and a Septon are those who serve the seven. They do so in a sept.
JennyQuote Reply
August was first called sextilus – as in the “sixth” – wow, they should name a month like that in Game of Thrones… you know Sex-tilus.
JennyQuote Reply
Perhaps there has been no announcement because of the bidding war between Disney and Fox over Game of Thrones. Disney needs a new tent pole franchise, and fox desperately requires a new cutting edge series, both are offering HBO a billion dollars to jump ship. Of course Murdoch wants to change the focus of the show to the ravens, and how LF and Vary’s intercept the messages for their own gain. Disney wants to scrap most of the plots and concentrate on the adventures of Euron Greyjoy and his adventures such as searching for “The Secret of Valyrian steel”, “Raiders of the Eight”, “The Temple of The Red Priestess” and “The Last Unicorns of Skagos”, unfortunately they will be PG-13, to attract the kiddies. Look on the bright side though, we get to have Happy meals with some of our favorite characters.

Mirth aside Disney has the rights to a potential tentpole series in the Prydian Chronicles but they screwed the cartoon up so much back in the 80′s that they probably aren’t willing to dust that off. I think it would be an awesome thing for Disney to adapt properly.
