This war you’ve started is coming to our doorstep. – Tyrion Lannister
In this week’s episode, Daenerys reels from the loss of her dragons, and receives an invitation to the House of the Undying. Theon searches for the escaped Bran, Rickon, Hodor and Osha. Jon is lost beyond the Wall, and Jaime Lannister is visited by his cousin Alton, bearing a message. Cersei counsels Sansa as unrest continues to escalate in King’s Landing. Tywin searches for the cause of Harrenhal’s recent deaths.
“A Man Without Honor” was written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, and directed by David Nutter.
Ours is the Fury: I’m curious to see how Theon’s hunt will play out since we’re missing Reek from A Clash of Kings. What are you looking forward to?

Just as a guess, based on how trailer editors think, that it’s more like Shae showing Sansa that women always need to be ready for scumbags (something even The Funny Whore would eventually need to know) by demonstrating “look I even have a knife”

I’d like to see this episode end with the alleged death of Bran and Rickon That would be a good cliff hanger and get people to tune in next week.
Having the dragons get stolen was one of the dumbest changes they’ve made in adapting the books. Not looking forward to seeing more of that.

Based on the trailer, I think there’s a good possibility we’ll get that (Bran and Rickon’s alleged death) in ep7, yeh. The guy, who Theon punches (at around 15 seconds) kinda looks like the guy to whom Bran gave two orphans last week.

I agree, whilst not all the changes have been appreciated and are probably unnecessary, there are a few which I feel have made the story even more exciting. An example is the stolen dragons storyline.
A non-reader friend of mine asked me “who took the dragons, how the hell did one person kill all those people?” And whilst it is probable that it is Pyat Pree on his way to the House of the Undying, I’m excited to see how the story pans out.
Other than that, I’m mostly looking forward to Theon’s hunt and Jaime’s scenes.

Ramsay will appear this season, but as a silent, helmeted knight leading the Bolton army to victory over Theon’s. The Stark men in Winterfell will cheer . . . until the Boltons kill them all.
Robb will be told that–contrary to his wish–Theon was not taken alive. At some point–perhaps during the last episode, or in future seasons–we’ll see brief glimpses, however, of Theon as a unwashed, flayed prisoner in the Dreadfort who has forgotten even his real name due to the torture. Because of his horrible body odor he is called “Reek”.
On a separate note, we know that Jaime’s escape attempt will occur this episode. I’ve read speculation that Jaime will injure Robb during the attempt, which will cause “Talisa” to nurse Robb, leading to their affair and his proposal. Not very different from the books, really, just compressed.

I plodded through the Daeny chapters in all five books hoping for something that would bring her to Westeros. My only hope now is that the pointless mess in Astapor and Meereen is a plot device to add Tyrion and Arya to her entourage.
Show Daeny made me a huge fan of our Khalessi, but since GRRM insists on spending so much time in Essos away from all the other POV plotlines, Emelia Clarke has to really bring it to get me to care about the Pretty Targ.
Shock MeQuote Reply
Agreed…I think they will imply Alton was going to help him escape, but Cat will release him before he gets the chance to escape, in hopes of getting back the girls. Jaime’s attempted escape doesn’t add that much to the story, and I also don’t think that Cat would release Jaime if he had injured Rob first. She’d be more likely to have him beheaded if that happened. Rob may still get injured in battle this week though, since that story with the nurse has to move somewhere soon. Alton Lannister seems to be wearing a “red shirt,” right?

Here’s how I see Theon’s story playing out the rest of the season
Next episode (7): Theon realizes Bran and company are missing. He questions some of the local Winterfell folk before he, Luwin, Dagmer and a few others search for them. Theon becomes frustrated that he cannot find them. Dagmer pulls Theon aside and says he has a hunch they are at nearby mill. Theon sends Luwin and the other Ironborn away and heads to the Mill. There he questions the miller there and demands to know where Bran and Rickon are. The scene changes abruptly as Theon starts beating the miller.
Episode 8: The episode starts out with the image of two small tarred heads on spikes on the walls of winterfell. We see Asha/Yara arrive and Theon explains how he took winterfell and killed Bran and Rickon for the attempted escape then demands 500 troops. Asha/Yara chastises Theon, telling him that holding winterfell is a hopeless endeavor and that killing little boys is especially horrific. She leaves and Theon is quite upset. Throughout the episode we also see Catelyn and Robb’s reactions to really sell the fact that bran and rickon are dead.
Episode 9: This is supposed to be the Blackwater episode so I’m not sure if there will be any room for Theon in this episode. If there is, it will be the parlay between Rodrik and Theon. Of course, Rodrik is already dead in the show so this would just be with Ramsay Snow, who’s face is covered by a helmet since he probably isn’t cast. This scene may be in the previous episode or the next if there isn’t time for theon in this episode
Episode 10: Ramsay Snow takes winterfell and destroys the iron born forces as the people of winterfell cheer.. until Ramsay slaughters all of them and razes Winterfell to the ground. Later in the episode, probably the final scene, we see Bran, Rickon, Osha and Hodor emerge from the crypts, speak with a dying Luwin and then head North. It’s possible that Luwin will stay alive and take Rickon to Skagos in order to get around the issue of not having the Reeds around.

One scene I am REALLY hoping they fit into the series is: Luwin and Theon discussing going to the Night’s Watch. I know they have already done the whole ‘ambiguous Theon’ thing a fair bit already, but I loved that scene in the book. It just underlined the tragedy unfolding and adds that extra tiny bit of sympathy/understanding for a character soon to be even more reviled by and large.
Also, whenever I read some of the theories regarding how the Winterfel story will end this season I always find myself reading about how Ramsay will be masked (so on and so forth) and shaking my head. If it DOES go down that route it just feels incredibly clumsy, so I’m still holding out hope we’ll get something better.

Pastor_of_Muppets,
Possible but I doubt it. I suspect what we will see is Tywin drawn from Harrenhal by an urgent Raven from King’s Landing. Tywin attempting to find the assassin. Tywin being force to commit to relieving King’s Landing when another Lannister host is destroyed and Robb is injured at the Crag or the Tooth. A second division of forces by Robb’s army that leaves Roose close to Harrenhal blocking Tywin from saving the West as Robb is raiding even closer to Casterly Rock to cut off Tywin’s supply lines.
In Winterfell, I think we will possibly see Maester Luwin healed enough (assuming no Reeds next season) to flee with Rickon after the Boltons burn Winterfell kill or enslave all the folk and then blame the retreating and dead Ironborn. The Stark boys emerging from hiding in the Crypts as the last scene of the season with the outside chance of one or both Reeds waiting for them but not shown on camera this season. Just the look on Bran’s Rickon’s and Osha’s face as they see their first frogeaters.
In Qarth, I think the fact that Doreah wasn’t shown dead is an indicator she might have some information about who took the dragons that Jorah can discover perhaps as she is dying. Although my preference is that she rescued Drogon and is in hiding. I think Daeny will first suspect the Spice King until she gets a ransom from the Warlocks or finds out what is behind the Valyarian Stone door.
Shock MeQuote Reply
Tywin investigates deaths at Harrenhall? Suddenly he’s a dectective? I would think he’d have bigger things to deal with than two measly deaths. I hope this doesn’t impact the Arya storyline too much. I’d prefer them just continuing to play off each other until he leaves/she escapes. No “he investigates/she’s in more danger of being found out” stuff.
Also, Jon is lost beyond the Wall? That is not a plot development. That was Jon’s status at the end of last week. Jon’s storyline is moving like molasses!
Sorry. I love the show but I’m sick and grumpy today. And still trying to figure out how/hoping Qhorin finds a way to tell Jon to go undercover, or his time with the wildlings will start making absolutely no sense.

She did have a compelling reason to go there. She knew Mirri had power and was only a maegi, which is why she figured the Warlocks would have even more. Also, she doesn’t trust them. I hope that but have a suspicion that maybe they’re going to run into her people while he has her captive. I base this mostly on the shot of him walking across ice with a bunch of wildlings in the trailers – I’m hesitant to think they would show that so much if it’s the last shot of his storyline, which it would be if it goes by the books. Then maybe her team takes Qhorin captive too? It’s just a theory. Also, I doubt he could let her go now – now that he’s lost he probably needs her for survival.
But I hope you’re right.

About the dragons, since i’s almost for certain that Pyat Pree took them, I’m guessing ser Jorah or one of the bloodriders finds out (or is there just one left?) and Dany goes to the House of the Undying to get them and dracaryses the place to the ground. My guess? Doreah has somehow squirreled away Drogon, which Dany will bring with her to Warlockville just like in the book. Somebody (or somebodies) pretty badass had to be the one to bust in there and kill everybody, and I don’t see how Doreah would have helped with that.
Steven SwansonQuote Reply
Since guesses are being bandied about, this one guesses that Drogon escaped during the dragon-napping event and is hovering around above the town waiting for an opportunity to return to Dany. Only 2 tails were visible in the view of the dragons in a basket being carried up a stairway, and a loud shriek was heard, which I take to be Drogon off in the distance crying for his siblings as they squeak in the basket. But Doreah holding Drogon is a possibility too. Can’t wait for Sunday night.

I’m sure it’s kind of a stretch, but maybe the hooded person carrying the dragons up to the tower is Arston Whitebeard aka Barriston Selmy? Maybe he knew that someone was after the dragons and took them before the bad guys could get them. I have always wondered how they would reintroduce him in Qarth since book readers don’t really realize it’s him until he is revealed later in SOS. In the TV show, I was figuring they would have him hooded in some way so viewers would be surprised as to his identity. Also, the House of the Undying was not presented as a tower in the books
AJQuote Reply
If this is the case, I think it adds a bit more plausibility to Qhorin’s order to Jon. If Jon already has an “in” of sorts, it makes sense to me that Qhorin would want to take advantage of that, still leading to the inevitable. The way we’ve seen it played so far in the show, Qhorin doesn’t really know what Jon’s made of yet, whereas crossing paths later with Jon (if he’s in the company of Wildlings) is an opportunity Qhorin clearly won’t pass up if he’s sure of Jon’s loyalties.
I might be in the minority, but I like how they’re shaping/shaking up Jon’s storyline this season. I think it makes Jon less…passive, in terms of the Watch? Book!Qhorin’s trust in Jon seems mostly based on Jon’s decision to let Ygritte go, warging, and having Stark blood in his veins; the way they seem to be setting it up now, I think Qhorin’s order will put more faith in Jon’s capabilities as a man and member of the Night’s Watch, if that makes any sense? Like, “Hey, good job not getting killed by these Wildlings. Congratulations, Snow, you’re going undercover.”
VeeQuote Reply
Hadn’t really thought about it, but I’m pretty sure there are only two dragon tails in that scene at the end…I’m guessing, Joreah hid with Drogon. Earlier they mentioned how Drogon liked her, so it seems very likely.
So looks like from the summaries that this was the “invitation” to the House of the Undying, perhaps Jorah will advise her not to go there in Ep. 7 and Dany decides to go in Ep. 8? I’d still be surprised if the HOTU is the “Strange Place” mentioned in the summary for Ep. 10.

I agree w/ most of your theories. Only, if you’ve watch the “House Greyjoy” feature with a sharp eye, you’d see that it doesn’t appear that there will be any heads on spikes – just tarred kids. I think they need to show Theon dragging the tarred bodies in so we can get a reaction shot from the Winterfell inhabitants. If they just do another “I climbed the walls with grappling hooks” recap it might fall flat and be less believable.
As far as episode 9 – I did see in one interview that the battle doesn’t take up the ENTIRE episode. So there will be room for other stuff (who knows if it will go to Theon). Although, if they’re going to have Ramsay in the show wearing a helmet, I think his appearance will be one brief scene. Any more than that and it will be pretty cheesy to have his face obscured the whole time.
I think they’ll have Luwen take Osha’s place as Rickon’s escort also. Either that or Rickon will start off with the group and split off later one (maybe when they get to the wall).
Mike from BraavosQuote Reply
Vee,
So, Jon’s a prisoner of the wildlings but somehow convinces them that he’s turned by killing fellow prisoner Qhorin? That’s the only way I see it working (Qhorin wouldn’t trust Jon if he just joined them right out), unless he lets her go and returns to Qhorin like in the books. But I do like how in the books Qhorin explains why he left Jon to kill Ygritte alone, and also how the warging comes into play. And he does have somewhat of an “in” in the books, because he has Ygritte, even if it’s less established than they’re making it in the show. Mostly, though I just don’t want them to make him staying with them out of self interest, as in, this is how I survive, because I don’t think that’s in character. I think it has to be a mission and it has to be under orders to work both with his character and his story going forward.
Honestly, I think if Jon winds up getting captured (likely, imo) it’s just going to make him look even more like an idiot. I’m not sure it would make me trust him more. Maybe it’s because show-Jon is so much older than book-Jon, but so far he’s coming off pretty daft. My non-book reader friends are pretty fed up with his storyline at this point. They don’t like the character and they’re bored. I love Jon in the books and I’m a huge Kit fan, but he needs to do something both right and interesting soon or some people I know are going to start skipping his scenes.

IT makes sesne that Whitebeard would protect Daenerys’s children if he is acting as a Queen’s Guard in his own mind. Plus he will have to be introduced at some point and there will be no big reveal like in the books as you said.
Even if the warlocks do not have her dragons Dany could have more than enough reason to go to House of the Undying anyway. Especially if they attempted to kill her people and steal her dragons, but were stopped by the mysterious cowled figure.

I was thinking about the “nurse” (Talissa). I thought the show made it pretty obvious that she is a spy for the Lannisters. The irony of the moment with Robb was that she was actually writing a letter to the Lannisters. Seeing as the scene comes right after Arya’s scene with the letter on Robb’s troop movements, it is also rather clear that it is from Talissa. Which sort of builds on to the book version where Jeyne is sent to Robb for screwing him over. Except there she was more of a victim of circumstance.

Oh, I totally get that and would agree that a self-interest aspect would not be in character. But I think we’ve had “Jon wants to be a leader” drilled into our heads far more in the show than in the books, too. If Jon himself saw the opportunity (if events are even going in that direction, re: meeting up with the Wildlings before meeting back up with Qhorin, etc.) to glean more info about the Wildlings (because isn’t the whole point of them being North of the Wall to figure out what they’re doing?), does that necessarily make his actions selfish? I’m not saying Jon would necessarily think it all through, but if the groundwork is laid, I guess I don’t see how that compromises Jon’s character or changes the inevitable conclusion from the books? It’s still a mission, and even the Old Bear basically told Jon that sometimes you do what you have to do, overlook what you need to do for the greater good.
Now whether he gets himself captured… I’m not sure I agree that it makes him an idiot. If that’s how it does down, I think how he reacts to that situation is far more important than how he ended up there in the first place. (But I’m well aware that I’m probably alone in that sentiment, heh.) And as far as Ygritte goes, I think it adds depth to her character if they actually spend some time together before linking back up with other Wildlings and she sticks her neck out for him. If I hadn’t read the books, I’d be very puzzled at her reasons if they’d played that straight from the book.

This webseries has an ongoing GoT theme which is maybe 20ish strip-strong as of now. Not exactly my cup of tea but some good stuff!

Vee,
I’m tentatively ok with him coming up with it on his own, as long as they can make that clear in the show. That tends to be a thought process thing, though, and maybe a little bit sophisticated for him right now.
Don’t get me wrong – I don’t dislike the extended Ygritte stuff, and I’m loving Rose Leslie (although I do ask myself sometimes “Jon, what’s your plan here?” because he’s gotten himself into something of a pickle, with no apparent way out – something book-Jon managed to avoid). I’m just curious/worried about how it impacts the end of his book 2 story. I think it’s just so strong in the books, and I don’t want it diluted too much.
I shouldn’t get ahead of myself, though. There are four episodes left! Anything is possible :)

I saw that gif the other day, good stuff. I’m trying to find one that shows the entire beheading + Theon’s face

My overall thoughts on the plotlines:
Dany’s dragons getting taken don’t bother me. that plot should play out. Although, i wonder how soon they can do the house of the undying being that she has to flee Qarth after and comes into contact with Strong Belwas, who has not been cast for this season. unless they’re doing away with him and leaving “Arstan” on his own…
With Bran and Rickon I think they it would only make sense to do the reveal that they are alive in the final episode… maybe even the final scene. Most dramatic one coming up if you ask me.
As for Jamie, I think he should, like in the book, make a failed escape attempt, killing Karstark’s son. Karstark is cast and therefore we’ll probably see his beheading near the end of hte season. I also think it makes sense for Robb to get injured, but if not maybe he’ll come down with something? If Talisa is Jeyne Westerling, this is how they grow together. Catelyn can come to him with the terms at the end of the episode and release him or maybe at the beginning of episode 8.
Arya probably wont give Jaqen another name just yet… as we know the last name is Jaqen’s and one, Tywin has not captured any Northern commanders yet, and two, Tywin is still there at all. Won’t happen until he rides south for Blackwater. My guess is episode 10 will feature this last “name”.
I don’t think Jon will make much progress, as i think they’ll save Qhorin’s death for the last or second-to-last episode.

Please have Jaime describe in detail how Rickard and Brandon Stark were murdered. In fact, I’d love for Jaime and Cat’s discussion to be a long scene that keeps most of the lines straight from the book. That chapter is my favorite from ‘A Clash of Kings’.

Vee,
The way I could see Jon’s storyline play out is :
We start with a wolf’s eye view of a huge Wilding camp in the Frosfangs; then Jon wakes up to find Ygritte gone and Qhorin standing over him saying that’s some dream he was having. Jon tells Qhorin about the dream and Qhorin picks up immediately that he was warging and that the camp was real. Jon says he couldn’t kill Ygritte, and Qhorin says fine , he was just trying to find out what kind of man Jon was. Then he says they have to run because Ygritte will be bringing back help. And the chase plays out like the book, ending with Jon alone with the Wildings

Oh Jamie, there you are! I forgot about you!
Am I the only one that finds dany boring? I skim through her chapters in the book, and loose all interest when she appears in the show. She just spends too much time saying who she is and what is hers…
You have dragons woman!!

Also noteworthy: Castle Pfalzgrafenstein, a famous medieval keep built atop a sand bank in the middle of the river Rhine. It enforced toll collection by the fortified town of Kaub on the right bank with the help of a strong movable chain across the right fork. A second chain linked the keep to Castle Gutenfels on the left bank. In addition, the keep also contained a number of catapults and later, cannons. These were used against ships that tried to run the gauntlet and avoid paying their toll, which was due in both directions.

Leofric,
My thoughts were just like yours.. but the dream starts with Bran and the weirwood like in the book. I think that becomes important in book 6.

Anybody feel that the title of the episode might have to do with Jaime?
T-GoodQuote Reply
I’m positive it has to do with Jaime. Catelyn calls him “a man without honor” in their conversation in the dungeon.

Read the description for episode eight, “The Prince of Winterfell”–”Arya calls in her final debt with Jaqen in a way that displeases him.” The final name will happen there. Even if the episode description didn’t give it away, it can’t happen in the last episode because that’s the episode that Arya will presumably escape from Harrenhal, probably with at least Gendry and possibly Hot Pie too. She might not be in the penultimate episode at all, given that it will probably be dominated by the Battle of the Blackwater.

Soooo, they are just going to leave Jon and Ygritte spooning all alone in the freezing cold? for a whole episode? Arg! that stinks….I really like Jon’s story line, but man I wish it would pick up, someone please tell me it does….and tell me that we should be seeing him a bit more than we have. It’s makin me nuts! :) (yes I am a tv watcher, just started the books, don’t hold it against me)
Regardless, can’t wait till Sunday! Jaime is back and any scene with Tywin is a good one!

Don’t know if anyone has already said this, but I think the scene with Shae holding a knife to Sansa’s throat will be a dream sequence. Earlier in the teaser, they sow a quick clip of Sansa shooting up from her bed (probably) and she’s holding her throat. And that will definitely be when she wakes up to her bed covered in blood.

i wish for more Jon too. Too little Kit this season. He did mention in an interview that ep 8 will be a ‘big’ episode for Jon.
I wonder if maybe Ghost will have anything to do with getting Jon back to Half hand. It would be cool if he does. He kind of trails off in the last one.

I have a theory about Talisa..
I was looking into Jeyne Westerling the other day and found some interesting minor details about the character which is leading me to believe that the name ‘Talisa’ and the last name she gave in the last episode ‘maegi’ to be a false alias
heres why…
Jeyne Westerling’s mum, Sibel is not of Westerosi origin, here mother (Jeynes grandmother) was from Esso, possibly volantis, and heres the crack… Jeynes grandmother used to sell ‘love potions’ on the streets of Lannisport, they called her ‘maegi’ (the esso term for witch) and this woman… could very well be Maggy the Frog, the maegi who predicted Cersei’s future..
I dont think Talisa is all that she says she is…

Cersei_Lancel,
Eugene Simon in an interview:
“Well, a lot of them have been congratulating me for having the guts to go onscreen, but given the fact that there are certain scenes that require a little bit more nudity I shouldn’t really be given much credit!”
Does this mean we’ll see another nude scene?

I think he may be referring to other actors and actresses having more nude scenes than him.

It’s completely reasonable. And her storyline after AGoT makes perfect sense if you stop and think about it.

Carne,
What has the reaction been like from your family and friends who watch the show?
Well, a lot of them have been congratulating me for having the guts to go onscreen, but given the fact that there are certain scenes that require a little bit more nudity I shouldn’t really be given much credit! There are a lot more scenes in the show that are a lot more demanding, but they’ve been nothing but supportive and I’m very grateful to them for that.
