Today is the US release date for Cyanide’s Game of Thrones RPG

Here is the game’s trailer, titled This Is War.
Game Of Thrones, the new roleplaying video game based on the popular HBO TV series and internationally bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire book series, is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC May 15. Featuring many familiar locations from the books and likenesses from the TV series, Game of Thrones also delves into a new storyline for fans to discover while immersed in 30-plus hours of original game play. The game can be ordered now with a limited edition hardbound art book, Game of Thrones: Visuals from the RPG, at the following link: http://www.gameofthrones-thegame.com/purchase.html

Got my copy on PS3 today (with the artbook) and I’m loving the story. The combat is a little clunky at first, but after 5 minutes you get use to it. The graphics are a little on the mediocre side, but the story and gameplay more than make up for it. I’m not that far in (been playing Diablo 3), but it’s a great game that any GoT fan should check out.
And the artbook is great as well. A great Q&A in the first few pages then some awesome concept art and explanation on certain elements of the game. It’s interesting to see where they wanted to go with it, but couldn’t due to monetary restraints and scheduling.

As I feared, a Metacritic score of 53. That is a pretty disastrous bomb. Even a 70 generally means financial failure, and sometimes 80s lose money too.
Tie-ins almost always suck, and it appears this is no exception.

GoTtVG is for The Long Night, when you’re stuck in your house for days on end. I have personally brought soo many new Thrones fans via word of mouth, buying the book series for them, loaning them my books, etc. I would love this game. I’m a big nerd and an old school gamer. This would be a ton of fun, until my son starts playing and leaves me back at square one. If there are beheadings (fingers crossed) I will have legitimate reason he can’t play this one! :)

I got the game yesterday. It’s not a GREAT game, but I’m having fun with it so far. It has unique mechanics. I don’t think It deserves the bad reviews It’s been getting. It’s no Skyrim for sure but that’s a pretty high standard. I’m just happy to be able to play a game in the ASoIaF universe.

I am in the middle of playing the game (already got the art book with my preorder, nothing special but it’s all mine bwahahaha). If you’re a fan of Dragon Age then you should like this game. Plays nothing like Skyrim, it’s “turn based” and live action just like Dragon Age was where you pick what actions (attacks/potions) you want to use on certain enemies and you usually have multiple party members in your group. You go back and forth between two story lines: A member of the nights watch and lord from Riversprings turned red priest. People are giving bad reviews here and they haven’t even played the game!!!! It’s really not that bad, you just have to go into it knowing it’s not an open word sandbox game such as Skyrim. And the story is approved by GRR Martin (he also makes an appearance in the game as well)…my only negative remark is that the voice acting is nowhere near as good as Skyrim or Mass Effect…other than that if you’re a fan of the books you should definately enjoy this game.

Ok there, calm down there…I’m trying to tell people that’s it’s actually a decent game, not like how the reviews are making it sound. And honestly I didn’t ruin a single thing, you buy the game and it says who you play as in the instruction manual so how am I ruining anything aside from stating what should already be known if someone was going to buy this game…I for one don’t blindly buy games just on the name, I do a little research first, so it’s not my fault you bought GOT Genesis just because it had GOTs name on it.

One of the best things about reading a book is this sense of being in the world that the author has created. A TV series or a movie doesn’t usually have the same emotional impact, because instead of using my imagination, I’m seeing the creative vision of others, come to life.
Having said that. A game has a potential to offer that which neither a movie, nor a book can do. Let me become a character within that world. If for no other reason that that, I would enjoy playing the GOT game and to win one, would make the experience that much sweeter.

So from what I’ve read we have yet another poor game of thrones video game. It really makes me upset as someone who is an avid gamer. It reflects the poor choice to go with a game company that had 1 game to its credit, I believe, before these two game of thrones games were made.
I don’t understand how they can take so much care with the show and the story but then the game is so poorly done. It really makes me upset that the games are treated as more of a filler content or sideshow than a true artistic medium.

Despite what the reviews might say, This is an old school rpg at heart: Classes, skills, stats, attributes, items, weapons, an inventory, strategic combat (reminiscent of dragon age I). Add branching dialogue with decisions that carry ramifications throughout the story, and I think you have a pretty darn good game.
Don’t get caught up on the visuals, or the fact that it’s not Call of Duty or Mass Effect 3. This will be a game for those that actually like RPG’s.

Anyone who mentions the IGN review or a metacritic score (from a whole 6 critics!) should automatically be disqualified Better I win a copy, so I can pass it along to someone I know will enjoy it.
All the reviews seem to agree the game gets better as it goes on, and through 3 chapters, its… playable. There are some nice ideas in the gameplay, and I’m betting the story will pick up once they stop clunkily handing out exposition.
My early score would be more like a 6 or 7 instead of a 4, but i’m not getting paid off to give crappy AAA games 9s and 10s and lower budget games 4s and 5s.
My best comparison would be Risen with Dragon Age combat wheel instead of action combat.
If you don’t play a lot of video games, and you won’t be able to handle a low budget game…
or you don’t read/watch Game of Thrones… (which is not a worry here)
don’t bother playing it.
IF you’re a non-casual gamer who also likes the books/show… I think you’ll be ok with it. Of course, some of you guys can’t even watch the show without breaking down in tears and pulling your hair out….so maybe not.
And FYI about the art book. 1> its not that impressive and 2> I already found one pretty funny mistake and 3> then I found two spoilers about the story of the game and closed the book.

For someone who actually enjoys console games, this looks simply awful. I love Game of Thrones but not enough to buy this. There are so many AAA titles out there, it’s a shame to see how poorly this was done. Might be worth a bargain bin pickup in the future, but even then only for the most hardcore ASOIAF fans.

I took my road test today and failed. I cried…I cried so much that my tears created tears. And I roared to the heavens pleading for a second chance. But unfortunately these sort of things happen in life. I saw through Twitter that there was a chance to win a copy of Game of Thrones. Oh how my heart filled up with joy.
