Saturday’s GoT Laughs: Maroon 5 and GoT goes rom-com

Now this is a GoT video game I’d actually want to play, created by Sabrenaut.

A House Baratheon rap…

If Game of Thrones was a romantic comedy starring Jaime and Brienne…

A different game of thrones…

And an accurate representation of your typical A Song of Ice and Fire reader.

  • I was afraid you were going to stop with this tradition now that the season had ended. Glad I was wrong :)

  • Yay! I’m glad the weekend laughs are continuing too.

I really like the last one. I relate.

  • Love GOT laughs!
The typical reader reaction was so accurate for me. Cannot count how many times I’ve yelled that I hate GRRM and walked away only to pick up the book five minutes later and to continue reading.
BTW Our is the Fury, while GOT RPG had some obvious shortcomings its not a half bad game. Played it through with every possible ending and absolutely loved the story, very Martinesque, worth the play.

  • That “rom-com” trailer didn’t really seem to make any jokes. The “One and a Half-Man” buddy-comedy trailer worked because it took scenes and used them out-of-context to put a new spin on them. This one just seems like a montage set to Call Me Maybe.

  • meh… the “different game of thrones” is probably the first poop joke I ever liked.

I thought this Comic is also spot on. And has a very ominous feel, super melodramatic ;)

  • Hertolo,

I read the comic and laughed cause it was funny, only to find my chuckles turning into sobs as I realised how true this was. Two greatest fears 1) A Dream of Spring is just that, a dream, a fantasy and the F@cking white walkers sit on the throne. 2) (greatest fear by far) GRRM dies before the seventh one is finished.

  • Katie,

I try, but every time GRRM misses a dead line that fear starts creeps up on me again in the same way that Barney’s GRRM does in season 7 episode 22 of How I met your mother creeps up on Marshall.

  • Aegon the Conqueror,

I know! I’m not very good at it either. Every time I see a GRRM blog post about football a little part of me thinks “No! No time, George!” but then I remember that even very famous authors with impending deadlines can take breaks to watch football if they want. Neil Gaiman says so.

  • There is a Game of Thrones board game and it’s quite good. It’s a tiny bit like Risk with simultaneous turns and no dice-rolling. The lack of dice/randomness emphasizes strategy and diplomacy over chance.

That video was pretty funny though. Thumbs-up.

  • The Maroon 5 parody had me rolling! crazy funny! My friends don’t get my obsession either! Ha!

  • Ours is the Fury:
Screw it, I’m adding it to the post.

Yeaaah, Aaaaa, House Baratheon! A woman LOL’d AGAIN! Fury, you should think of adding the board game one too, that’s a hoot.

  • That Maroon 5 parody is my life right now and that House Baratheon rap is gonna be stuck in my head for ages. Black and yellow!

  • people keep coming up with funnier and funnier stuff. The Maroon 5 one is just awesome. I’ve laugh out loud so often to that. And now a Baratheon rap with a mention of Davos. Awesome. Although there should be a House Seaworth rap. Also that Game of Thrones board game thing is pretty funny. Apparently the actual board game is really difficult too. Going by a review of it I read ages ago.

Anyway keep the lols coming people.

PS I stand corrected, I thought the whole Bush head thing was this weeks GoT laughs.

  • Ours is the Fury,

Stannis from the House Baratheon rap here, thanks again for posting it here and in the Tumblr! I tried to get it to you earlier this week through your contact page but it kept giving me an error message. Anyway, glad you all dig it. With the quality of the responses we’ve been getting, we’re discussing possibly doing another one. Had a blast writing, recording and filming this one for sure.

Great job! A woman is grateful for your hard work and superb wit. Now if you could do one for all the major houses, getting in mentions of our favorite secondary characters like Jaqen, a woman would die happy someday (hopefully in the far distant future).

  • I guess in the case of anything related to Maroon 5, I should, for once, be glad the GEMA is blocking me from viewing it.

Oh wait, it also blocks the rom-com one…

  • Nathan Cox,
That sucks about the Contact link not working. Must’ve been a momentary glitch? If you want to submit something again at some point and that link’s not working, just tweet @WiCnet, @WiC_HearMeRoar or @suethepirate. Great work with the writing and performing. :)

  • Katie,

Football doesn’t bother me nearly so much as his side projects. Tales of Dunk and Egg no4, the Comprehensive Guide to A Song of Ice and Fire, can’t they wait until his finished with the ASOIAF saga?

I’ve heard other people mention having problems with the contact form, but in my tests everything seems to be working fine. I can’t really troubleshoot it unless I know exactly what kind of error it is giving. If someone out there has received an error when using the form, please let me know the details. Thanks!

  • Aegon the Conqueror,
When you’re writing, sometimes you need to take breaks and work on other things. It actually helps get the main work done faster because it helps with writer’s block.

  • That House Baratheon rap is made of pure win. Nice to see the Baratheon brothers (kinda) cooperating for once. :)

  • Heh the rap was cute. Good work, but you should have gotten out of the park and at least found a brick wall or something for variety.

  • Who would have thought that Wiz Khalifa would have been parodied in, not just one, but two Game of Thrones music videos?

  • Bahaha, I just showed my teenage sister the GOT Ron-Com Trailer without telling her what it really is. She just wanted to know when it was coming out because she really wanted to see it. Her face was priceless when I told her it what it really was.

  • Winter Is Coming,

Aegon is extremely grateful, although feeling a bit sheepish.

    sjwenings

I agree, the scene with Jaime and Brienne in the hot tub was bloody funny! Especially Jaime’s reaction when she walked in. Is it too racy to hope they put that in the series as well.

  • I’ve not heard of Kid Khalifa before but I woke up this morning singing ” Black
and Yellow…House Baratheon “. The Maroon Five video is priceless, can’t
wait to hear the feedback from my teenage nephew.

  • WildSeed,

My teenage sister hated it! Guess she’s still mad about the Ron-Com thing, she’s decided that since I hate all things Twilight she will now hate all things GOT related.

What happens when you play Game of Thrones: The board game:

    http://www.cracked.com/video_18427_game-thrones-board-game.html

WHAT?! WHAT THE F…?! My side hurts, this was too much fun.

But the Baratheon rap wins the internet. Also, people sitting next to me earlier in the subway while I was watching the video must have thought I’m crazy.

    Aegon the Conqueror:
    Katie,

Football doesn’t bother me nearly so much as his side projects. Tales of Dunk and Egg no4, the Comprehensive Guide to A Song of Ice and Fire, can’t they wait until his finished with the ASOIAF saga?

You should really check out the Dunk&Egg novellas if you haven’t already, they’re quite fun and they provide some interesting bits of information on some characters that also appear later on in ASOIAF. I personally can’t wait to read the upcoming one.

  • Macha,

Have all three, also can’t wait for the next one. But I would’ve preffered to read the entire story in one go instead of chapter for chapter. I really hope that when GOT the series is finally done, we will get a Tales of Dunk and Egg series.

  • Dunno if this has been pointed out here before, but Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey, who is on a pretty historic run right now, has been using the GoT theme song for his at bat music. I noticed it last night attending the game, though exploring a bit it’s been noticed in a few places already.

He also kind of resembles Rory McCann as the Hound, except, you know, without the horrible burn scars. http://gameofowns.com/game-of-thrones-theme-powers-mets-r-a-dickey/

For those non-baseball people out there, Dickey’s a pretty great story: he was born without a Ulnar Collateral Ligament in his arm, which is a very important muscle for pitching (and one of the most commonly injured among pitchers). No one realized it until after he was drafted, but instead of give up pitching, he taught himself how to throw a knuckleball, which is essentially a ball thrown with no spin, so despite it’s lack of velocity it “flutters” in a way that’s very unpredictable and thus difficult to hit. He was a career minor leaguer who no one really considered to have a shot at a real baseball career, but he kept at it, and a few years ago started turning into a really good pitcher. Now, at age 37 (pretty old in athletic terms), he’s become one of the very best pitchers in professional baseball.

Also, he names his bats after famous swords from fantasy stories. So far, we have a confirmed “Orcist the Goblin Cleaver” from the Hobbit and “Hrunting” from Beowulf. I wonder if he’s got an “Ice” or a “Longclaw” in there somewhere too….maybe he’s got a “Lightbringer” stashed away somewhere for a really crucial moment, lol.

Suffice to say, as a die hard Mets and ASoIaF fan, he’s my hero.

  • Mrs. H’ghar,

Nah enjoyed House Baratheon much more. Only things I enjoyed about this video was the beautiful blonde and Anduril (favourite fantasy sword) making an appearance.

  • Well done from me as well, House Baratheon team :) nice of you to drop by, definitely looking forward to more of your work in the future!

  • Abyss,

It’s one of those things that you watch and wonder, who the hell spent money and gave their time to get this made.
