Casting Rumors Speculation

Tara Fitzgerald cast in season three?

imageAccording to this London Evening Standard article, it appears that British actress Tara Fitzgerald has been cast in season three of Game of Thrones. The article focuses on her athleticism and then drops this line at the end.

Fitzgerald will require such running skills as she begins shooting fantasy war series Game of Thrones in Northern Ireland next week.

I’ve contacted HBO for confirmation and to see if they can tell us which role she will be playing.

Winter is Coming: Seems legit but we’ll consider it a rumor until we get an official confirmation. Who do you think she is playing? My guess is Selyse Florent, wife of Stannis Baratheon.

  • Given they’ve cast Shireen then it’s logical to imagine Dragonstone stuff is at the front of the S3 shooting schedule, so yes, Selyse.

I suppose the actress might fit other smallish roles like Taena of Myr or Dalla, both of whom are in ASoS, but since neither of those is even on the confirmed to be cast list…

  • Sandy Love:
She is a lot prettier than I imagined if she is indeed Selyse

True, but those cheekbones could definitely give her that sort of ‘sickly’ look so I really don’t mind. I’m just going to say the same thing I always say when I see these castings announcements.

Aslong as they can act I think they are perfect!

  • Selyse does seem the most likely.

Though the running skills link seems a bit odd if that is the case, Selyse is hardly a role that requires much running.

  • I’m guessing Selyse as well.

Even looks a bit like the actress playing Shireen.

Fitzgerald was cast by Nina Gold in “The Virgin Queen (miniseries).” Always some sort of connection!

  • That awkward moment when Selyse is kinda hot.

    Mormegil,

That’s media for you. I highly doubt they had any information on the character she’ll be playing, I just think that GoT is simply perceived as being the type of show that demands more physical effort on the actors part than your average TV series.

  • It could just be pure speculation on the writer’s part. We said Gwendoline CHristie was too pretty for Brienne and look how well they turned out. I hope they keep her little moustache.

  • Aegon the Conqueror:

Was just about to say this :)

  • Sandy Love,

Said basically the same thing on the previous post. I think the London Evening has no idea what role she’ll be playing and just assumed she would need the skills of say Arya.

  • The actress who plays Meli confirmed on Twitter that she is en route to “Dragonstone”. Selyse seems very likely.

  • Samantha Hirst,

Jesus Christ, no way , why do people keep saying this . No offense to the actress but she doesn’t fit Val at all and I know they don’t really cast the characters after the book descriptions but even this would be a tad too far .

  • As others have said, the writer probably doesn’t know who she’s playing and just assumed it’s going to involve some action.

  • Selyse would be a very minor role for such an established actress. Of all the few scenes she features in the books, we’ve already missed many of them.

    Unless they’re expanding her role.

Would be a bit old for Val/Dalla.

    Taena is an interesting call.

  • Claudiu Gherganu,

Well Jesus Christ why are people so insistent that she’s Selyse? Because, in my opinion, she doesn’t fit Selyse. Not at all. Does she fit the description for Val, no, but with the ‘running ability’ comment, it seemed to be the role that fit more than a sickly wife who does absolutely fuck all.

And as for why people keep saying it. Well, hmm, let me think. We’re allowed an opinion, so stop jumping down people’s bloody throats just because they don’t agree with you.

  • Could be Selyse. Although she looks kinda MILFish, I can see why Stannis played peek & poke with Carice instead.
Also, beautiful actresses can be made non-attractive more easily than vice versa – cue Gwendoline Christie.

  • Interesting. I remember her from a bunch of brit-com movies in the 90’s: Brassed Off, Sirens, etc. I could definitely see her as Selyse. I could also see her subbing in as Lysa, if they were unable to bring Kate Dickie back for some reason.

You’re allowed to have an opinion but i’m gonna call you out on it if i think it’s wrong and doesn’t really make sense . Which it’s the case with yours , no offense !

  • As has been stated several times before the article author was probably just speculating that because its GoT she will need to do running, don’t read to much into it.

  • In the article she compares theatre/tv to a marathon/sprint, so ‘running skills’ probably refers to that rather than a very physical role.

She is much prettier than book-Selyse, but we’ve seen with Brienne that makeup can work wonders, so if she is Selyse I’m sure she’ll look appropriate when in character. It may be that the role will be bigger in the TV show than the books.

In the books it’s Selyse who introduces Melisandre to Stannis, she pushes the red god religion first. ‘Queen’s men’ are loyal to her and/or Mel and make up a good proportion of Stannis’ forces. I’d be really interested to hear what Melisandre and Selyse talk about when Stannis isn’t around.

  • glenn:
when does selyse do any running? surely wildling royalty

She does, when the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, and news-sites don’t just invend stuff just for the sake of a short news-story when they have in fact no idea what they are writing about.

  • Aegon the Conqueror: As has been stated several times before the article author was probably just speculating that because its GoT she will need to do running, don’t read to much into it.

Well maybe they’ve added a Patch Face as Benny Hill scene … she’d have to run for that.

  • Shinyteapot: I’d be really interested to hear what Melisandre and Selyse talk about when Stannis isn’t around.

Oh you know, the usual, praising R’hllor and rating Stannis’ abilities in bed.

  • The article’s unsigned, so most likely the bit about running is just fluff to fill space shoved in by a staff journo who knows that TF will be in GoT… but that’s it.

  • Also, it does say she’s filming in Northern Ireland and not Iceland, which would seem to me to rule out any Wildling characters. I’m pretty sure this is Selyse.

  • Actually, if they gave her the Brienne treatment (took away her makeup, make her look a bit haggard, etc.) she’d look surprisingly close to my mental image of Selyse.

  • You understand that the actress is 44 correct?

    Thanos:
Well if she is required to ‘run’ can either be a wildling or Meera Reed.

  • Peppe: Maybe she is a women of house Tyrell? Margaery and Loras’ mother?

Here’s how Tower of the Hand has her described as:

She has tall with a long silver braid.

It also says she is in the 3rd book, even though I haven’t read it yet. So, possible I suppose. That’d seem to be a really, really minor character though.

Reading the description of Selyse, this actor could easily be made to look like that with makeup. I don’t know if they’ll go to the extremes that GRRM describes, but she could be made unattractive with makeup. Anyone can.

  • Selyse doesn’t seem likely unless they expand her role.
I’m not even talking about the “running” part, as previously said, the writer may not have any idea which role she was cast for and just assume that a GoT part requires athleticism.
But i really don’t see such an established actress take such a problematic role (very few scenes to play but across a lot of season).
She would be too old for Val/Meera/Dalla so my best guess would also be Taena.
Won’t comment on the choice other than to say that i now trust Nina and the casting team enough to know that they know better than me.

  • Does Tara Fitzgerald have a Twitter/FB account? Was going to follow her, but not seeing anything.

  • If it’s not a huge role, it likely won’t be a huge time commitment. I don’t see that as an argument against her being Selyse.

  • ASOIAF Fan:

Selyse is in a lot of scenes in ADWD. They will probably make a shortcut and have her and Shireen travelling with Stannis directly to the wall (instead of staying in another castle). Plus this season will mainly have Stannis on Dragonstone, so her role will probably be extended a bit.

  • Hi-Fi,

They can expand her role but i just don’t see the need to, Stannis has Davos,Mel and Shireen to play with and they’re all more interesting characters than Selyse.
I could see a “big” actress for the role if they cut the character for the next 2 or 3 seasons but that’s not what they’re planning so i’m sticking to my guess of Taena who is the only char for Cersei to play with in a number of scenes.

  • I suppose the author could have just been assuming she’ll be filming in Northern Ireland, but I think Cersei’s scenes will mainly be filmed in Croatia.

Also Taena doesn’t really start interacting with Cersei until AFFC. Cersei should have plenty of characters in interact with in S3/4, between Joffrey, Tywin, Tyrion, Sansa, Marg, Littlefinger, etc.

  • Lya,
Interesting, though I can’t really picture her as anyone (not with her looks and the riding part) right now.

  • People are taking the “running skills” comment too literally. Journalists put vaguely pointless asides like that into articles all the time. It’s just a throwaway comment, not a casting clue.

She’s an excellent actress. Very experienced, very well respected in the industry. She has a certain harshness, at least in the performances I’ve seen, that I think will suit Selyse very well. The photo above looks like it’s from quite a while ago. She’s attractive, yes (hard to find an actress who isn’t, frankly) but she’s clearly in her 40s when you see more recent photos.

  • Claudiu Gherganu,

That was my initial assumption as well (that and perhaps a slightly different Meera?), but the riding part threw me off for a bit. You know, Dany being on a boat for the first part of the season. But I admit my memory is a bit fuzzy when it comes to Dany’s Astapor scenes so it could very well be a possibility.

  • Interesting catch about Nathalie Emmanuel , Hollyoaks looks familiar, are there other cast members from that show?

  • When I heard that her athleticism was considered and that she’d be doing a lot of running, the first character I thought of was Meera. I didn’t read all the comments, but I’m surprised that, in all the ones I read, there was not one mention of that.

EDIT: Perhaps she’s too old. Though she doesn’t LOOK it.

  • Wes:

Assuming you’re talking about Fitzgerald, it’s been mentioned several times. It’s also been pointed out that the actress is in her mid-40s.

  • Nathalie Emmanuel:

    Landed safely in Belfast!

Ah man! Feeling a bit sore from horse riding!

If this isn’t Game of Thrones then I am Santa Claus.

  • DGIG: Selyse would be a very minor role for such an established actress. Of all the few scenes she features in the books, we’ve already missed many of them.

Remember, we had Sir John Standing (a VERY well respected actor) as Jon Arryn’s dead body.

I’m sure they’ll beef up Selyse a bit, though, if they’re casting for her beyond a featured-extra.

  • She is 44.

  • Macha,

They have aged up a lot of the children’s parts so I wouldn’t be surprised if they aged up Missandei as well.

  • Lya: I think Nathalie Emmanuel is also cast https://twitter.com/#!/missnemmanuel just go through her tweets and see the people she’s following (plus – john bradley follows her)

Good catch Lya! I was intrigued by the picture she posted of “Episode 306 Confidential Script.” All signs point to yes. Wildling probably?

  • Who gives a fuck, is she playing mance? No! Who is playing the king beyond the wall? Abel? Bael the bard come again? Who who who??????????

  • Lya,

Could be. The photo of a confidential script with episode 306 is making me think she’ll be in at least the sixth episode of next season (the one before Autumn Storms)

  • msd: People are taking the “running skills” comment too literally. Journalists put vaguely pointless asides like that into articles all the time. It’s just a throwaway comment, not a casting clue.

Exactly. It was nothing more than a really bad segue. The point of the article was to show how “in shape” Tara Fitzgerald was, and they poorly used that as a bridge to say “Well she’ll need to be in shape because she’s in a war show now!”

  • I saw this actress in an adaptation of Jane Eyre (she was aged), she´s a good actress and has a very nice distinctive voice. Selyse is the only one I can imagine for her.

  • Maybe they’re planning on aging up Missandei and also giving her some of Irri’s role?

Then again, she says she’s in Belfast, and I kind of doubt that they’re filming any of Dany’s scenes there. Though maybe she’s just getting horseback riding training there or something before real filming begins.

  • J,

She just left Belfast so I’m guessing she flew up there to read the script and learn how to ride a horse. She’s probably not filming for a while assuming episode 306 is her first.

  • Superdeluxe,

I assume everything involving the storylines centered on Robb, Stannis, Arya and probably Bran. I suppose Theon as well, if they do continue his storyline into season 3.

  • FYI. Sarah Bolger had a tweet stating she was in Belfast, but I can no longer find that tweet.

  • Kerry Ingram (Shireen) just tweeted:

On my way back from Belfast :)

So it seems like several new cast members flew to Belfast to get their scripts and training.

  • Lya,

Great catch, you can clearly see through page one and on page two the header Game of Thrones” so she’s definitely in!

  • Carne: Based on her ethnicity I don’t think so. Might be Missandei or someone in Astopor.

Probably right. I figured maybe they’d want to show wildlings of all colors, shapes, and sizes. But geoethnically (I think I just made up a word), that doesn’t make much sense. You’re right, she’s probably Essos-bound.

  • I agree with most everyone here: all signs point to Selyse. I suppose Dalla or Val is a possibility, but I think they’d go for a more youthful look for those two. Taena is unlikely as well, as I believe they’ll try to get someone with a darker ethnicity for her. I think the whole “she’s athletic” thing was just a bad segueway and Carice Van Houten’s tweet about how she is “off to Dragonstone” suggests that the Dragonstone scenes are among the first to be shot

As far as her looks: they can definitely ugly her up. A little make-up (or lack there-of) can go a long way. Remember what we all said about Gwendoline Christie: “She’s too pretty!! Brienne is ruined!” only to get an amazing Brienne in the show.

In regards to Selyse’s supposed lack of stuff to do in season 3 because she wasn’t in much of Storm of Swords: remember, this is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, not A Storm of Swords. I’d expect a lot of Selyse’s dialogue/scenes from Clash of Kings to be included in this season. Just look at Jaime: His scenes in season 1 were taken from Books 1, 2 and 3. His season 2 scenes included parts from Books 2 and 3 as well as some invented ones. I’d expect the same treatment given to Selyse.

  • Would be kinda fun to see her sitting on the ground, pulling on Stannis’ leg…

    “Get off me woman!”

  • Definitely looks like Nathalie Emmanuel has been cast as well. Not going to make a new post though as I don’t want to get her in trouble. My guess is she will either be Jhiqui (with curly hair she looks a lot like the Jhiqui from S1) or a new, invented handmaiden.

  • DaveB: Probably right. I figured maybe they’d want to show wildlings of all colors, shapes, and sizes. But geoethnically (I think I just made up a word), that doesn’t make much sense. You’re right, she’s probably Essos-bound.

I agree. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to have a multi-ethnic wildling population, as they’re supposed to be the purest descendents of the First Men, and therefore a mostly homogenous group. Though, I guess you could rationalize it as trading ships that have crashed along the coast.. bit of a stretch.

Looks like Nathalie Emmanuel is going to be an aged up Missandei. I think aging her up is a good choice.

  • Winter Is Coming: Definitely looks like Natalie Emmanuel has been cast as well. Not going to make a new post though as I don’t want to get her in trouble. My guess is she will either be Jhiqui (with curly hair she looks a lot like the Jhiqui from S1) or a new, invented handmaiden.

I noticed that too. You might be on to something there. Hopefully they cast another bloodrider too. It’s kind of weird that she pretty much has only one now, and he wasn’t even around at the same time as Rakharo was.. so it’s like shes only had one all along.

  • Winter Is Coming: My guess is she will either be Jhiqui (with curly hair she looks a lot like the Jhiqui from S1) or a new, invented handmaiden.

*Sigh* I honestly hope its the latter. If they killed off Irri just to have Jhiqui back I will be – for the first time since this show aired – kinda pissed.
Right now I’m just happy the casting madness has begun.

    Aegon the Conqueror:
    Macha,

You now owe me one! LMFAO

Look into the fire, my friend. If you look closely enough, you’ll see a new keyboard in your future. It’s right there, next to my Blackfish casting announcement. ;)

  • Vanderhook: I noticed that too. You might be on to something there. Hopefully they cast another bloodrider too. It’s kind of weird that she pretty much has only one now, and he wasn’t even around at the same time as Rakharo was.. so it’s like shes only had one all along.

Don’t forget Malakho! He seemed to be one of her final remaining Dothraki towards the end of Season 2, which I find hilarious for some reason. I love this guy!

    http://images.wikia.com/gameofthrones/images/b/bf/Malakho.png

  • Macha,

That was probably the one scene that I felt could have been made a lot stronger. Imagine Stannis looking into the flame, then the sounds of battle slowly become louder and you hear the cry of victory just as a tear slips from Stannis’ eye and he proclaims he sees it. Or is that just me?

  • My out on a limb idea concerning Nathalie Emmanuel is she has been cast as Arianne (I noticed it was only one script, not more), so perhaps we get a brief intro to the Dornish world, to prep the viewer for season 4. Remember this is an adaption, so D&D can take us behind the scenes of Westeros, showing us events that were hinted at or logically took place while the events in the books were happening.
Ms. Emmanuel has all the attributes of Princess Martell, twenty something, gorgeous, elegant, athletic and she also has that Moorish look about here. So if noone has mentioned it yet, I get dibbs.

  • tysnow: My out on a limb idea concerning Nathalie Emmanuel is she has been cast as Arianne

Interesting theory…and they ARE adding Morocco as a location for the upcoming season. I always pictured Dorne as having a North African feel to it.

  • WoW! if this pans out concerning Sarah Bolger, it can only mean one thing, she is playing fan favorite frog princess.

  • Please correct me if I´m wrong, but wasn´t Selyse in a short scene last season? I think I remember Stannis leaving the fire and almost forgetting to take her along. Who played her then and why do they recast?

  • She looks a bit like Noomi Rapace….and also

Who the FUCK are playing my Reed sibilings?!!?

  • Vanderhook,

Don’t they already have a multi-ethnic group of Wildlings? Compare Natalia Tena to Rose Leslie, for example. Tena is actually of Spanish descent (which fans commonly associate with Dorne, rather than Beyond the Wall), and Leslie is of Scottish descent. It’s not exactly the difference between Daxos and Ducksauce, but it’s about as close as it comes in Europe.

So, I’d say it’s a little too late for Wildling homogeneity.

  • Macha,

Was Jhiqui actually named on the show? If not, they could use the name for another handmaiden, to save making up a new Dothraki name.

  • tysnow,
Not impossible, though you’d think that if the Martells were in, they’d also show Myrcella being there, and from what I recall Aimee Richardson will be absent from S3.

    Aegon the Conqueror,
I agree, it’s what I expected as well, but then again the majority of non-book readers seem to think Stannis will bite the dust soon anytime now, so maybe they wanted to keep his arrival at the Wall and subsequent victory a secret for as much as they can.

    EDIT:
    Shinyteapot,
You’re right, though I was hoping that a new handmaiden would mean someone of non-Dothraki origins, simply because their decision of killing off Irri would then make less sense to me.

  • Ed,

Now for all the times I’ve made fun of people crying about certain lines/scenes being removed from the show, I would feel bad if they don’t have that bit.

  • blackbird7309: e a

Generally they recast because the person used at that point is not considered to be the right actor for the part — basically, they aren’t considered to be good enough in some way. They are generally extras — and can be actors — but often can be someone who just looks right and can do a passable head nod or look. Beric was one, Selyse, as well as Brad, the Hound’s friend. Even the King’s Landing Butler, IIRC, was someone from the crew and not necessarily a trained experience actor. They simply may not be able to do what is expected of them once they get lines.

As to why they don’t cast earlier, it’s expensive. Aside from the time and effort to cast, the payment structure to have someone like Tara Fitzgerald cast, rehearse, be on set and then reserve her for this season is much more expensive than grabbing an extra/feature extra or crew member who has the right look.

It’s a budget and convenience thing. Most programs don’t ever have to worry about this. They don’t have the ridiculously sized cast of GoT or such an intricate plot where minor characters gain prominence.

We’ve seen this now at least twice (Beric, and Selyse) and avoiding this is why they avoiding showing us Thoros in Season 1 or why Robb’s group of identified counselors changes completely between Season 1 and 2. Why didn’t we meet Karstark until right when he became important? Budget. Why was Greatjohn not even in the background in Season 2. Budget. Why was Roose not introduced in Season 1 or even in the background? Budget.

I’d be surprised to see Dorne. There’s the aforementioned lack of Myrcella (unless they are recasting that as well). Then there’s simply that we are adding Mance, Tormund, Val, possibly Dalla, and perhaps Donal Noye in the North; Missandei, Daario, re-introducing a character, perhaps Strong Belwas in the East; The Reeds are coming; Stannis’ family is coming; The Brave Companions (or at least Hoat) AND the Brotherhood… Ramsay is coming.

There’s so many main characters, from a plot and flow perspective, Dorne can wait. It also adds a plot points and time away from a crowded storyline already. Oh, and casting the Dornish costs a decent amount of coin, since you’d likely be hitting four major characters.

    I just can’t see it.

  • She Tweeted about it within the last 2 weeks, I actually commented on another WIC post talking about how Bolger was in Belfast.

But now any mention of Belfast is gone from her twitter.

    Carne:
    Superdeluxe,

Did she say so? When did she tweet about Belfast?

  • Well there’s no reason to remove a Belfast related Tweet, so let’s hope it’s linked to GoT somehow ;)

  • Lya:
I think Nathalie Emmanuel is also cast https://twitter.com/#!/missnemmanuel just go through her tweets and see the people she’s following (plus – john bradley follows her)

Is it possible that Iwan Rheon will be playing Ramsay Bolton? She’s following him on Twitter, and they don’t seem to have ever worked together previously. As for who she’ll be playing, I’m assuming it’ll be a part for a character in Essos. Exciting stuff.

As for the part of Selyse being filled – I always figured that Stannis’ story line would be expanded, and/or even shuffled around to include Edric Storm, so this doesn’t surprise me. I think we can all look forward to Stephen Dillane really digging into the role this year, and for that, I’m very excited.

  • Varamyr Fourskins: Vanderhook, Don’t they already have a multi-ethnic group of Wildlings? Compare Natalia Tena to Rose Leslie, for example. Yeah, I see where you are coming from. But it’s a lot easier to convince someone that Natalie Tena and Rose Leslie are supposed to be the same ethnic group than someone with the complexity of Emmanuel. *shrugs*

  • Pastor_of_Muppets,

She was on an episode of Misfits, which starred Iwan so that could be why. That said, I think he would make a great Ramsay (even thought Iwan might make it harder for me to loathe him…)

As for Tara Fitzgerald, I loved her in I Capture the Castle. I think she’s great addition to the cast, probably as Selyse.

  • Nathalie tweeting about her horse-riding lessons point toward her playing a Dothraki woman, for me. I’d like to see the Martells this soon but I get the feeling they’re being pushed to season 4.
It would be nice if they were bringing Jhiqui back as a character.

  • That would be great too. I was worried they were going to cut Missandei because of her age, but I’d rather have an aged up Missandei than none at all.

  • Retracted after reading the actress’s age. Definitely not a 44 year old playing Meera haha.

  • Kristibisci,

Ah’, thanks for the heads up. I scanned IMDb for a connected but didn’t find one. Still, I like him for the role so maybe it’s still a possibility.

  • I tweaked the contrast and saturation of the Instagram pic of the script. Much easier to read Game of Thrones, but I cannot make out anything else any better sadly.

OF all the days to have a planned lunch date!
Is it wrong to cancel on a friend you have not seen in 3 years because there are Thrones casting rumors breaking…….. Is it?
    Ack, Pfffft!

  • @Ye Olde Wolfe

Why would they cast a 44 year old woman as Meera?
    It makes no sense.

  • Julian Walker,

I can see a 44-year old Dalla or Val if they make Mance in his 50’s maybe, but I have a VERY hard time seeing a 44-year old Meera….. Age is important to Meera, but I’m not sure age is as important to Dalla…. Val a bit more so perhaps….

Even if the running bit did make me think of Meera first.
The age and shoot location does scream Sylese though…..

  • darquemode,

I doubt they’re going to have a 44 year old playing Val if they plan on having her be the beauty that is offered to Jon as part of the deal Stannis offers him. Val should probably be closer in age to Kit Harington.

  • Oh, this would be great news if they’ve really cast her! I liked her a lot in BBC’s ‘Waking the Dead’, she’s a very solid actress. And now I start hoping again that they also cast the main actor from that series, Trevor Eve. He too would be a great addition to the GoT cast!

  • What about Natalie Emmanuel playing Taena? She does fit the physical description from the books, except for possibly being slightly too young. The horseriding does rather sound like Missandei/Handmaiden, though.

  • OMG! All this news is so exciting! Tara, Nathalie, maybe even Sarah Bolger as Meera…

D&D are putting together our dream cast!

  • Julian Walker: he

The needed athleticism line is most likely a throwaway comment just referencing what the author thinks of the genre of the show.

I suppose you could age up Meera tremendously and change her relationship to Howland (sister, not daughter), but I doubt they’d do that.

Selyse is one option (and yes, she’s too pretty, but that doesn’t stop anyone in this industry) and I think Dalla is another. Val is supposed to be younger and undoubtedly will be, but Dalla is Mance’s woman. Since the Mance is likely to be middle-aged (and remember, Ned is like 33 in the books and a 50ish Sean Bean played him), having too young a woman play Dalla might not be desireable.

I realize that older man/really young woman is not unusual even today, but honestly, it carries a certain implication about the motives/personality of the man in modern terms that I doubt D&D want to put onto Mance. Mance is a renaissance man of sorts – King, Fighter, Poet, Musician, Philosopher. In medieval times, marrying a young woman was for the bedroom and the heirs that came of it. But in modern terms, it would color Mance in our modern audience’s eyes as somewhat of a lech if he’s 45 and she’s 25.

Which is my roundabout way of saying it’s probably Selyse, but she could play Dalla.

  • Meera? mmm may be, but since there are no more maids near Daenerys… a brand new one may appear??

  • I think she’d make an awesome Selyse. Sure she looks “too pretty” on her “pretty pictures” but I bet they can make her just right with some makeup hoodoo. So that’s not very important. The important things are; she’s the right age. She has that strictness to her face -> the kind of strictness that may quickly convert to unlikeability … especially combined with her low voice. And last, but not least; she’s a great actress. So, yea … if she’s our Selyse, I’ll be quite happy. I won’t even mind the recast (which I usually do (despite the understandint, why it’s neccesary)). :D

  • Superdeluxe: Interesting catch about Nathalie Emmanuel , Hollyoaks looks familiar, are there other cast members from that show?

Finn Jones (briefly) and Roxanne Mckee were both in Hollyoaks. I don’t think anyone else was.

  • Tar Kidho,

I was thnking of Eve for a few roles, but he never felt just right for any to me. Of course seeing him in the role he would be better than me imagining him! XD

He seems a bit too youthful and solid to be Thoros… maybe he could play Qyburn? He has that “fatherly” look to him and the grey hair.

  • Joshua Taylor,

HBO=Joffrey, Delay of casting announcements= Antlered Sceptre, Us= Ros and Daisy

    ROFL!

Well which one of us is Daisy? Hopefully, I am NOT Daisy in that scene…

But yeah I agree. HBO is really torturing us with their holdout on casting announcements, I guess I do feel like Daisy, getting my behind beating in with a giant barbed… Object. Lol…

  • dizzy_34,

    I went….
Luckily my friend had to be back to work so it was one of those quick business lunches that last like 30 minutes….. Reminded me of eating lunch in high school or something… Felt rushed eating so fast.

When I waited tables I used to love working lunches at this downtown business friendly restaurant! All the tables turn so fast and it’s a mad rush and then you’re done….
Not like this waiting for casting news, which is more a marathon than a sprint.

  • Almost certainly Selyse. Tara is very well known in the UK do I think she’ll have a reasonably big role. My only other guess was Lady Mormont.

  • Knurk,

She has a Meera look to her in some ways…. Those eyes!
The name is similar to Meera too, although I’m not sure why D&D would want to change Meera to Myranda since there are not any similar sounding names to Meera right now.

I’ve not seen any of her rather limited number of projects…..

  • DaveB: Remember, we had Sir John Standing (a VERY well respected actor) as Jon Arryn’s dead body.

It’s not the same thing to play a minor role in a single season as a cameo than playing a small role that stays for multiple seasons (meaning multiple big $ checks for a few scenes, not very smart business-wise).

  • darquemode,

Isn’t waiting the name of the game when you’re an Ice and Fire fan?
There will be a down pour of casting news soon. BTW I can see them holding Mance off for Comic Con or something since Iceland is one of the last places that they film for season 2.

  • Vanderhook,

Yeah but Jaime is an interesting character to begin with, why would they expand the role of Selyse when all the other characters with Stannis are more interesting?

  • Macha,

Could be, but a reveal like that wouldn’t reveal anything about where Stannis was headed, just that he would be victorious. SOmething the series watchers already heard from Mellisandre.

  • Lex,

Ahh, now that does make more sense if Myranda is a name changed role!
Missandei is close enough to Melisandre that D&D could want to change it I bet.
    Nice catch….

She certainly is not how I envisioned Missandei or a sister to some unsullied, but…… name wise it works.

  • ASoIaF Fan,

Ye, but they sure have a bizarely interesting thing going on there on the Dragonstone. We now know Stannis is stannising Mel from time to time (who’s to say it was a one time event) … Selyse (at least as far as the books are concerned) is a huge fan of Mel, despite possibly being aware of the shinanigance those two are up to. So ye … perhaps they’ll want to explore their relationship a bit further. I, for one, am rly looking forward to interactions between Selyse and Mel. Because GRRM was not very talkative about them in the books (due to the lack of POVs mostly).

  • Not saying i think she is Meera, but why would this be outlandish? Because the reeds’ story is obviously changed why couldn’t she be a Osha figure to Joren? It would make a lot more sense on why Osha allows Bran to go North without her. He goes off with Meera while she takes Rickon to Shaggos. Thus, Osha doesn’t go North (her desire), and she leaves Bran in the care of Hodor and Meera. Hodor can’t be counted on to make the proper decisions, but an intelligent adult Meera could be? Just food for thought.

  • Myranda – a renamed Meera? Or one of the Tyrell Cousins (can’t recall all their names without looking up there was some begining with M though).

  • Wow, Charlotte Hope really does look exactly how I pictured Meera in my head. Really awesome eyes!

  • Pepi,

    I can just see it
Selyse “Would you like me to call Mellisandre to get you started, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.”
    Stannis “What?”
Selyse “Or I can turn around and you can pretend I’m her!” Lol

  • Peppe: In the books it’s Selyse who introduces Melisandre to Stannis, she pushes the red god religion first. ‘Queen’s men’ are loyal to her and/or Mel and make up a good proportion of Stannis’ forces. I’d be really interested to hear what Melisandre and Selyse talk about when Stannis isn’t around.

A woman thought the same thing, similar shape face to Natalie Dormer so she could be Margaery’s mother (she can be aged a little if necessary, give her a little grey at the temples) OR Selyse. Makeup, attire, and lighting can make any slim person look sickly if she’s going to be Selyse. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • silvan,

Yes but I have a feeling Osha might just tag along for this one, seeing as she’s such a popular reinvented character in the series.

  • Nick Larter,

Since her much publicised interest in the show, I have a hard job thinking of anyone else but Charlize for Val %-)

Nope, Charlize will be playing Septa Lemore come season 5, hopefully.

  • Aegon the Conqueror: just that he would be victorious. SOmething the series watchers already heard from Mellisandre.

Yeah but look how well that turned out in King’s Landing. ;) Anyway, I hope they revisit that scene next season, with him alluding to what he saw. Speaking of Dragonstone, if there’s one scene I can’t wait for it’s the one where Stannis casts the leeches into the fire naming the usurpers, that really made an impression when I first read it.

  • J:
I can’t stop laughing at the idea of a 44 year old Meera Reed.

I feel a right fool, cos just looking at her pic here I thought “oh, maybe Meera, but she’s a bit old”. Not realising she’s actually 44! haha. So yeah, defo not Meera!

  • tysnow,

No don’t get us all excited here, you might give Peter Dinklage a heartattack!
BTW check out the swimsuit nun in the trailer for the three stooges and ask yourself if that’s not exactly how you always pictured Septa Lemore.

  • Too attractive for Stannis’ old ball and chain.

And too skinny for any of the spear wives.

  • houndlover: I feel a right fool, cos just looking at her pic here I thought “oh, maybe Meera, but she’s a bit old”. Not realising she’s actually 44! haha. So yeah, defo not Meera!

Did you look at that pic of Charlotte Hope though? She really looks like Meera imo…

  • Impi: Did you look at that pic of Charlotte Hope though? She really looks like Meera imo…

Doesn’t look anything like Meera to me.

  • As I mentioned in previous post I think Fitzgerald is Selyse.
Emmanuel probably a bit aged up Missandei.
And Hope could be one of Tyrells cousins. Due to the photo I do not think she is Myranda Royce, but due to her age she could be Meera as well, though it is definitely not Meera from my head.

  • Impi: revisit that scene next season, with him alluding to what he saw. Speaking of Dragonstone, if there’s one scene I can’t wait for it’s the one where Stannis casts the leeches into the fire naming the usurpers, that really made an impression when I first read it.

A woman thinks that Ms. Hope looks like a cousin to Margaery Tyrell, and Ms. Fitzgerald could be Margaery’s mother…we could be looking at the Tyrell tribe growing before our eyes. After all, Cersei gets freaked out by all the Tyrells seemingly INVADING Kings Landing, which is why she plots to bring them all down to keep her power. She does not trust any of them. AND, remember, Margaery loves to take her cousins out horse riding, so that probably will have to be at least one scene next season. Remember her saying “Bring the horses” to Loras she leaving Storms End? She loves her horses and riding. A woman thinks all who have mentioned so far could be Tyrells.

PS…Trevor Eve would be an AWESOME Lord Connington/Grif, right?

  • Mrs. H’ghar,

    I like that idea!
I like her better as Lady Alerie Tyrell than as Selyse… Even if Fitzgerald does have the Florent ears! XD

There is not a lot of years between Dormer and Fitzgerald though… 44 and 29…I guess that’s close enough to a generation in our time and would be appropriate for a generation on Westeros really.

Interesting…… She was a fairly small role though if I recall right.
I guess all the non-POV will get more face time in King’s Landing….

  • The only smallish argument against Tyrells is that I sort of had in my head they were doing NI stuff soonish. So I expected to see more Dragonstone and ex-Winterfell stuff before the KL stuff.

  • darquemode,

Boy, for fans of the books you folks are bad with names. Myranda is the slutty-mouthed young noblewoman who hangs out with Sansa on the donkey ride out of the Eyrie. “Ran-da.”

  • KG:

Except there’s absolutely no reason to cast her in Season 3.

I think the “Missandei is too close to Melisandre” theory is the best I’ve heard.

  • I think what people mean is that there isn’t a Myranda in ASOS

Myranda Royce isn’t introduced until late in AFFC, and really can’t be worked in earlier unless they’re doing the purple wedding early this season, which seems unlikely, or unless she is in KL for some reason sooner, which would be weird since she’d then recognize Sansa later. but ultimately who knows, the changes will likely build up over the seasons and it could very well be her, I just think that’s likely why people weren’t considering her, rather than simple oversight.

  • KG,

    Guilty.
I am a fan, however I’m not a fan with an encyclopedic recall of the sseries! XD
I enjoy the books and I enjoy the series, but I never pretend to be an expert.

I leave that for other folks far more familiar with the books than I…..

  • Mrs. H’ghar,

Ditto, to your idea that we are seeing the birthing of the bevy of bitches (I can see Cersei saying this) from the Tyrell Clan. Ms. Fitzgerald is too elegant, attractive and lively for being Ms. Stonecold, and I easily can see Hope as cousin and handmaiden to Dormer.
If this pans out, it’s going to get hellishly hot in KL and the set, not to mention this forum, enfact so hot it will melt our LC displays.

  • My guess is Mya Stone…Tara Fitzgerald looks very young on-screen. She could definitely play Robert’s oldest child.

  • Charlote Hope looks a bit young for Meera. Meera’s actress should be around 18-21 age. Nathalie Emmanuel could be an aged-up Missandei since her script shows episode six, which is in the middle of season 3. Dany leaving Qarth and meeting Whiteboard would probably take the first half of the season and she meets her in the middle of the season in Astapoor.

  • tysnow:

Do you mean that a woman might have to sing “It’s gettin’ hot in here, so take off all your clothes….” ??????? : – 0

PS…Isn’t it also possible that some of the minor characters later on will be combined, for example Mya Stone and Myranda from the books combined into one character that would share both of their lines (instead of hiring 2 MORE minor characters)? Just putting that out as a possibility to consider going forward, as we don’t really know WHICH story lines they’re going to continue with in Season 3. Some will have to be deferred to Season 4, right?

  • Impi: 5’3″ (160cm):)Short enough for a Reed?

Oooooooh yeah, I think you’re right! She has green eyes and is petite, could easily go either way, a Tyrell or Meera Reed! Thanks for the link Rabbit, a woman enjoys looking at the details. Nina et al are not going to disappoint with the new characters for Season 3.

  • WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

Lets just squash this is she Meera or Selyse shit right now. I have my doubts about her being Selyse but she could be another supporting character. Dan and Dave and Nina Gold are not STUPID enough to cast some fuckin’ 44 year old as the love interest of a 12 year old kid. It ain’t gonna happen! What next shall we get some British dude in his 40’s to play Jojen. Two grown ass people tramping around Westeros telling Bran about green dreams. This is not happening. Nobody on the set of GOT would cast the Reeds as people in their 40s. So many fans (like myself) would throw a bitch fit in second. So yeah, enough with all the IS SHE MEERA OR SELYSE?

  • Julian Walker,

I think you missed something. One person suggested Tara for Meera, and was laughed down. The most recent discussion has to do with Charlotte Hope being Meera.

  • Julian Walker:
    Sorry for the rant! :D

Calm down my friend, a woman thinks you have not read all the other posts guessing that Ms. Fitzgerald may be playing Margaery’s mother or Selyse? We don’t know, but most agree that it’s probably not Meera. There are several younger women also recently appearing to have connections to the show who may be Meera, perhaps you are confusing the somewhat disconnected conversations on this thread?

  • To be fair several people have said her for Meera..as well as in Twitter.

    OhDanyBoy:

  • Julian Walker,
Keep up, my friend, we’re in the middle of a ‘is Charlotte Hope filling the part of Meera/Missandei/some Tyrell’ debate right now. :)
God, one day we’ll look back on this thread and the sound of our facepalms will be deafening.

  • Superdeluxe:

If one wanted to be silly, one could compare the suggestion of Ms. Fitzgerald playing Meera to Mary Martin playing Peter Pan. It’s been done, but probably not these days as there are so many more actors available today.

  • I think Tara Fitzgerald is a bit too established to play Mother Tyrell. Selyse is more relevant than her, so I’m pretty sure we’re looking at Selyse here.

  • Have we already moved on that Hope is Myranda from the Vale?

    Macha:

  • :) Julian

There are really 3 disjointed casting speculations ongoing. Tara Fitzgerald, Nathalie Emmanuel and Charlotte Hope.

My guesses are Selyse, Missandei, Meera respectively.

  • Superdeluxe,

Well, aside from the fact that she’s too young and Myranda doesn’t appear til near the end of AFFC (which would likely be around Season 6)…

  • Superdeluxe,

Well *I* personally don’t think there’s any hope for any of the Vale characters to make their way into S3, hence the omission, but I could be mistaken.

  • Ooh, Charlotte Hope looks like a perfect Meera to my eyes. We’ll see. I hope they don’t change the name though.

  • Here’s a thought. If Hope is playing Meera with a different name, why not add her surname in her CV – Myranda Reed? Could be I’m grasping at straws here, but IMO this adds up to the Missandei sounds too similar to Melisandre theory which – I have to concur – is the best I’ve heard so far.

  • I’m cool with these choices, Tara/Selyse Nathalie/Missandei Charlotte/Meera

I just hope they don’t change Meera’s name to Myranda, makes no sense. the sound alike excuse doesn’t apply. plus meera is way cooler, sorry myrandas

  • Arstan:

A woman thinks it’s possible that Ms. Hope was given the name Myranda for auditioning purposes in order to keep the Meera casting secret, no?

I agree totally with your logic….it is just now that I have seen her, I want Charlotte Hope to be Meera…plus then what would Nathalie be? The name change thing makes more sense for Missandei….I will still hold out hope for Hope.

  • Impi,

Those were my first impressions too.
Fitzgerald will nail whatever role she has been cast in of course, but I still have a bit of a hard time seeing her as Selyse…. What role is more likely for a well-known actress though?

After Winter pointed out how much Emmanuel looks like the actress that played the Jhiqu in Season 1,I think Winter may be on to something… It looks like Sarita Piotrowski is filming a movie right now so maybe she was not available?
Although aging up Missandei and not having to deal with the issues of working with children does make sense to me.

I think after being chastized by KG that Hope is probably Myranda Royce as he wrote…. She is suppsoed to be short (I used the Wiki), so I’m not sure that her lack of height at 5-3 makes her a candidate for Meera exactly, and why the name change if so? Her eyes did scream Meera to me upon first glance though… even if the rest is not how I pictured Meera.

  • Mrs. H’ghar: A woman thinks it’s possible that Ms. Hope was given the name Myranda for auditioning purposes in order to keep the Meera casting secret, no?

Oh, I hope you are right!

Impi: Oh, I hope you are right!

It is not unheard of, the production staff knows we’re all looking for “Meera.”

  • TF could be Lady Alerie but a) she’s got an extremely small and seemingly unimportant role in the books compared to Selyse, b) we’ve got no word that Alerie is being cast, as opposed to Selyse being confirmed, c) we also have confirmation on QoT, who is much more significant (and epically badass) as a mentor/matron of the family than Alerie, and d) TF seems a lil too big of a name for Alerie unless they are substantially increasing her role. Selyse just seems so much more likely, looks aside.

ETA: as far as looks/book description, Katie Dickie was nothing like Lysa, but she was outstanding in the role. On the show Selyse has only been described as sickly, not ugly, as in the books.

  • If she was playing Meera Reed, it would say “Meera Reed” on her CV. They wouldn’t have bothered updating her official online CV with a fake name. If they wanted to keep it secret, they would not have updated it at all. She’s not Meera.
I can’t imagine D&D would change Meera’s name. No reason to, not even a vague one.

  • Hope is too old for Meera, she is 21 and Isaac is 13-14, and I know Meera is 5 years older in the books, but thats to big of a difference for tv viewers. Tara could be Selyse, but hoping for a Tyrell (bagain D&D could be making her character more interesting). As for Ms. Emmanuel, if she is just in one episode (6), my vote is the scene(s) will be of that of laying the groundwork for an appearance later on. A role like Missandei would be a demotion for the actor, while a scene or two setting up Arianne for season 4 and beyond would be cool, and more in line with Nathalie’s current level of work.
Hope as Myranda Royce is plausible, all D&D have to do is work out a way to bring her character to KL, perhaps as part of a Embassy entourage from the Vale. Wasn’t she a young widow in the books, could be a way for her to lose her hubbie, while also building suspense for later on when Sansa appears you know where. Sansa and Myranda could play a game of cat and mouse, were Sansa attempts to deflect Myra’s suspicions.

  • Sarah Bolger was in Belfast and she deleted her tweet (or her agency has deleted it) that talked about coming into Belfast.

That is my story and I am sticking to it. :)

    Sarah Bolger for MEera

    Ours is the Fury:
If she was playing Meera Reed, it would say “Meera Reed” on her CV. They wouldn’t have bothered updating her official online CV with a fake name. If they wanted to keep it secret, they would not have updated it at all. She’s not Meera.

Where is this Meera as Bran’s “love interest” thing coming from?

  • Going by the info in this thread, I’m going to guess:

    Tara Fitzgerald – Selyse Baratheon
    Sarah Bolger – Meera Reed
    Nathalie Emmanuel – Missandei
Charlotte Hope – one of Margaery’s cousins renamed.

  • I seriously doubt Hope is Meera. It would have said so on her CV (as already pointed out).

Probably a made up character or some name swapping going on.

  • I think people are just maybe plotting out their endgame?

Blood: Where is this Meera as Bran’s “love interest” thing coming from?

  • Hi-Fi:
Going by the info in this thread, I’m going to guess:

    Tara Fitzgerald – Selyse Baratheon
    Sarah Bolger – Meera Reed
    Nathalie Emmanuel – Missandei
Charlotte Hope – one of Margaery’s cousins renamed.

That was also a woman’s first thought (expressed poorly above), but was thrown by Ms. Hopes green eyes (when I saw her CV), which is what Meera also is supposed to have in the book. But your listing is probably correct, many could have green eyes.

  • Lin Beifunk:
I dunno, I think Bolger looks like Margaery enough to be related to her…

    http://i.imgur.com/UBFbi.png

    But that’s just my opinion.

Totally possible that Bolger is Tyrell cousin and Hope as Meera too (renamed Myranda?), either way they both look in the appropriate age range for those characters.

PS Remember last season when they called Oona by the name Jeyne in the cast listing and later called her Talisa? Couldn’t it be that they’re using the name Myranda but Hope will really be Meera? OK, I’ve said it before, they could be pulling a switcheroo on the names just to keep us guessing. See? We’re guessing.

  • Of course, it could be that Bolger DOES look too much like Margaery and they want to split them up so those alleged Confused Viewers can tell them apart. In which case, it’s very much possible Bolger is Meera or some other young girl character.

Now would be a great time to release information, HBO execs! :)

  • Vini:
    she lacks ears.

That’s an easy fix if the GoT producers feel it’s that important, in a woman’s opinion of course. Ask Leonard Nimoy.

  • Ours is the Fury,

Agreed and makeup or prosthesis do wondrous things but what about ” running
skills (?) GRRM writes of Selyse’s frailty but she makes up for that with her ascorbic
demeanor , if I’m getting that detail correct. The GoT writers may revise or enrich
her personality and it would be a bonus actually. Is the ” running skill” just a red
    herring ?

  • Would be quite interesting if we actually are getting “Myranda Royce” so soon. Ever since the end of AFFC I’ve suspected she’ll end up playing a large part in the Petyr/Sansa arc.

  • WildSeed:

In a woman’s opinion, the “running skill” is either a nod to her fitness or/and a distraction and/or just a way to pad the article with some details about the actress.

  • Interesting news. Tara Fitzgerald is a very established actress here in the UK. She got her first big break in The Camomile Lawn, the same mini-series that also boosted Jennifer Ehle (our original Catelyn from the pilot) to success. A very good actress, and a good fit for Selyse. Not sure what other roles would be suitable for here.

  • Alan,
thanks for the explanation. Seems I´m still to blue-eyes about all this budget stuff :)

  • Couldn’t she be Oberyn’s paramour, Ellaria Sand? She does have some half grown daughters, so is not that young.

  • Now that Irri has been killed off, I think it would make a lot of sense for them to age Missandei up and have her fill both roles from here on out. It’d be an alteration, but I’d rather they use existing characters than make up new ones. It already made no sense to me for Irri to die, so it’d be kind of silly for them to add a new Dothraki character or suddenly have Jhiqui be there again.

  • Sarah Bolger and Natalie Dormer were both in “The Tudors”…

Be cool of they are reunited in GoT.

  • Adam Whitehead:
Interesting news.

A woman hopes she is amenable to accepting 3 – 4 million new fans!

  • As already stated, it’s obvious there has been a misinterpretation here. I don’t think the actress will require any actual running skills for this role.

Problem is the Standard article has the actress comparing acting on a play / acting on a tv show to a marathon / sprint.

With this piece of information, I’d say she’ll be Selyse.
She’s too old to play Dalla or Val.

  • Whoever she’s playing, that’s wonderful news! I loved her in Waking the Dead. Great show. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. Fitzgerald gets to play around on a body farm.

  • Winterdark,

Yep, and last year she did spin-off of Waking the Dead called The Body Farm. I think it was cancelled though after the one series. She was great in that too.

  • Blood: Where is this Meera as Bran’s “love interest” thing coming from?

From the books. The text makes it pretty clear that Bran is desperately in love with Meera. He can’t act on it, obviously, as he is prepubescent and paralyzed besides

  • tysnow:
Hope is too old for Meera, she is 21 and Isaac is 13-14, and I know Meera is 5 years older in the books, but thats to big of a difference for tv viewers.

I don’t think Hope is cast as Meera, but that’s certainly not too old for Bran to have a crush — and even what little hints there are in the books hardly even constitutes a crush.

Since there’s no actual romantic relationship in the books, I’m not sure why the age difference is an issue. I know it’s a popular ‘shipping topic here, but people should take a listen to Martin when he seems baffled in interviews about ‘shipping. For example, he’s baffled that people actually want Sandor and Sansa to get together. I suspect Bran’s interest in Meera is burgeoning puberty and not some hints at anything that will actually happen.

  • That Nathalie Emannuel woman (who is a very attractive twenty-something) can’t be Missandei.

Missandei has to be a sweet little girl, or I will have a tantrum, and I’m not even a book purist.

  • Alan
For example, he’s baffled that people actually want Sandor and Sansa to get together.

I don’t think that’s correct. Take the interview that WIC posted on this very website a few days ago. GRRM didn’t sound “baffled” that people would like to see a San-San happy ending; to the contrary, he sounded mostly understanding as to why people would want that.

  • I’m guessing Tara Fitzgerald is either Selyse (70%), Talisa’s mother (20%), or Margaery’s mum (10%); each one of these would be expanded roles, with Fitzgerald’s cred.

If Charlotte Hope is playing Myranda, she’s playing Myranda Royce. D&D have changed names in the past, but there’s no reason why they’d change a name to be exactly the same as another character in ASoIaF. And I have a very strong feeling GRRM has a bit more in store for us with “Randa.” She’s definitely not a throwaway character.

In fact, given Littlefinger’s connections with the Vale, and the fact that the show has now given him even greater influence at Highgarden, I see no reason why they couldn’t introduce Myranda with the rest of the massive Tyrell wave heading to King’s Landing in season 3. I see the Tyrells as being a magnet for every young nobleperson in Westeros. I imagine their parties are epic. Like a traveling circus filed with extremely bizarre fashion choices. And Myranda strikes me as someone who wants to be where the cool people are.

Sarah Bolger? Love her. But no idea who she’d play.

  • darquemode,

If Sarah Bolger is in fact cast as Meera (which I highly doubt, she is such a big name). I will have to drop everything I am doing and run around the block a few times to release my excitement and joy!

This would also mean D&D would boost Meera’s role and feed Sarah lots of lines and screen time. You don’t let a talent like that go to waste. Bran’s storyline would quickly have just as much talented interactions as those at Kings Landing…

Please HBO say it is true!

  • MATTHEW: I don’t think that’s correct. Take the interview that WIC posted on this very website a few days ago.GRRM didn’t sound “baffled” that people would like to see a San-San happy ending; to the contrary, he sounded mostly understanding as to why people would want that.

I’ll have to watch it again, but I believe there’s a direct line where he says he was shocked that people want them to get together.

There’s no doubt that Sandor has some kind of feelings for Sansa, but I don’t think Martin really expected people to root for the much older, vicious killer who doesn’t even know her and threatens to rape her to be someone that people supported in his quest.

As for Meera and Bran, there’s no doubt Bran has some level of feelings, but there’s really no evidence for “desperately in love.” A thirteen year old desperately in love doesn’t think just in small, subtle hints. Perhaps Martin wrote it poorly, or perhaps I missed it, but I didn’t see examples of someone desperately lovesick. Quotes?

I don’t have my book handy, but when she starts crying in book 5 (won’t reveal the circumstances, so as to be non-spoilery), Bran fantasizes that he could hold her in his arms and comfort her and even considers taking over Hodor’s body so he can accomplish just that.

There’s a lot of other textual meat on the subject as well.

  • MATTHEW,

i would like a child actress as Missandei too but Dany’s handmaiden would require a grown up and since they killed Irri and Jhiqui decided turned into dust

  • MATTHEW: I don’t have my book handy, but when she starts crying in book 5 (won’t reveal the circumstances, so as to be non-spoilery), Bran fantasizes that he could hold her in his arms and comfort her and even considers taking over Hodor’s body so he can accomplish just that.

I’m not saying there’s nothing there. I’m saying his POV is nowhere near “Desperately in Love” and that the future of the “relationship” isn’t as certain as many fans here would tell it.

There’s a good chance that there’s never a physical relationship. That it’s a crush on an older woman and so an age difference would be appropriate.

“I am sometimes surprised by the reactions of women, in particular, to some of the villains. There are a number of women over the years who have written me that their favorite characters are Jaime Lannister or Sandor Clegane, The Hound or Theon Greyjoy. All of these are deeply troubled individuals with some very dark sides who have done some very dark things…”

“Fascination is one thing, but in some of these letters indicate that there really is a romantic attraction going on, and I do know that there’s all the people out there who are, as they call themselves, the SanSan fans, who want to see Sandor and Sansa get together at the end. So, that’s interesting.”

“And I’ve played with it (SanSan) in the books, and there’s something there, but it’s still interesting to see how many people have responded to it.”

Baffled probably wasn’t the right word. But he’s “interested” in the why of the reactions to SanSan and he was surprised by a lot of the reactions to people like Sandor — who you wouldn’t want dating your daughter. I’m not sure he should be — women love the bad boy. And they love the idea of getting someone no one can get (not that men don’t).

But it’s clear to me he’s surprised by the general reaction. And I would definitely put my money don’t on SanSan not coming to fruition. I don’t know if I’m as sure about Meera and Bran, but at the moment I’m reading it as a young boy’s first crush, destined to be unrequited. It’s sweet, and I don’t even think Bran knows what it is yet.

Either way, if Martin sees the age difference as an issue, he’ll bring it up. Casting seems to be one area where he really is truly heavily involved. If he intends something and it’s important, D&D will hear about it.

  • Thinking about it, Hope may actually be playing Myranda from the Vale. Since Littlefinger is absent for a while during Book 3, we may see him going to the Vale to court Lysa. Myranda could be introduced there.

  • i think tara fitzgerald would be great for selyse… there had been some people suggesting that gillian anderson ought to be cast as selyse, but i think tara fits better. maybe gillian could play oberyn’s paramour?

  • I think Selyse is a good guess. Now all they need to do is put something behind her ears to make them stand out more, as a bat-eared Florent, and then hire Martin Clunes to play Alester Florent and they’re ready to shoot!

  • I am familiar with Tara Fitzgerald primarily from her role as the preacher’s wife in Sirens from some years back.

She was perfect as the prim, righteous, rather plain women sharing the screen with a bunch of gorgeous bimbos. As I recall, she seemed a bit angular of form, definitely constipated in her reactions to the hedonism surrounding her. Absolutely perfect!

She would glow as the morally upright but hapless Selyse, choosing to trade her marriage bed for her blind faith in the Red God.

  • MATTHEW: From the books. The text makes it pretty clear that Bran is desperately in love with Meera. He can’t act on it, obviously, as he is prepubescent and paralyzed besides

Bran is a warg, so, yeah he could act upon it.

  • If I were Bran, I’d warg myself into Jaqen and bang all of Westeros.

That was for you, Mrs. :)

  • The last 2 years Sarah has done two tv pilots but neither have been picked up. I think she can fit this in

  • Rygar:
If I were Bran, I’d warg myself into Jaqen and bang all of Westeros.

That was for you, Mrs. :)

A woman thinks you are a naughty boy and need to be spanked! Frequently!

Perfect in this woman’s opinion! Yes! Martin Clunes for Alester Florent!

  • Rygar,

Meera is Bran’s girl. No doubt about it. I don’t mean anyway sexual so don’t badger me about that. I am just saying all logic points towards the direction of Bran and Meera being a couple… Eventually.

  • Arthur:
    Mrs. H’ghar,

“A woman thinks you are a naughty boy and need to be spanked! Frequently!”

    I’m naughty too!What about me!?!

Line up boys, a woman has a warm paddle and is in the mood. OK, don’t get carried away, have to save some energy for the ‘ole ball and chain!

  • Arthur,

Oh I know. I am just stating the obvious that Bran, as a warg, could still fornicate with Meera. I really have zero interest in Tara Fitzgerald or who she could be cast as, but still enjoy reading everyones thoughts. I jumped on Matthews comment to satisfy my own perversity, as I have often wondered what else Bran would do as Hodor.

Edit: I can’t add spoiler tags for that end bit from my phone. Please assist if you all feel its spoilerish.

  • Hi-Fi: Thinking about it, Hope may actually be playing Myranda from the Vale

This is a great guess – seems to fit way better than Selyse! (IMO)
    Hi-Fi,

  • Rygar,

I totally agree with you 100%. Bran will use Hodor to be with Meera, it’s just a matter of time. As gross as that sounds, I totally got that feel from the books.

  • Arthur:
    Rygar,

Meera is Bran’s girl.No doubt about it.I don’t mean anyway sexual so don’t badger me about that.I am just saying all logic points towards the direction of Bran and Meera being a couple…Eventually.

I don’t think Bran’s going to be a part of any couple, any time soon… He’s a tree.

  • Mrs. H’ghar: A woman thinks you are a naughty boy and need to be spanked! Frequently!

LOL. What is it King Joff’s Name Day already? Go grab Ros and the royal scepter!

  • Only read the first bunch of comments. It’s pretty obvious Tara Fitzgerald is not known to a lot if you. She is a very good actress with a very unique husky voice, usually very well spoken – she does period drama effortlessly. She was in the last few series of Waking the Dead and then had a one series spinoff called Body Farm (don’t know if there will be more) – Selyse seems a good shout but here’s a wild thought – they can age her and her voice will give her gravitas so Olenna isn’t a possibility either. I’ve seen her play aged before and she is very good. Either way she will be a very good addition to the cast.

  • patchy face,

Wow… So she will be that bastard daughter that leads people on and off donkeys up the steep and narrow cliffs to the Eyrie? She is really pretty… That’s all I know of her so far.

  • Arthur,

If I remember correctly, the description of her in the books was that she was very attractive. Seems like maybe a character that they may make a little bigger for the show than she was in the books…she had an interesting story with some mystery, and it kind of made you want to know more about her than we got after reading the books.

  • Bonnie Blue,

Awesome. I never minded D&D giving minor characters larger roles if they can be used as a diving board for other major POV character storylines to launch off. I am all for that (except for Ros of course). So I look forward to seeing what they do with that young beautiful actress.

I also pray Sarah Bolger got the part of Meera and D&D make her even more a part of Bran’s storyline.

  • If Hope is Myranda Royce (maybe a merging of Myranda Royce and Mya Stone), then they will probably make her one of Margaery’s Ladies in Waiting and become a Jeyne Pool of sorts to Sansa. She may even be an agent of Littlefinger’s in KL and at the Eyrie as well. She also represents the Eyrie in KL, reminding the audience to make way for the return of Lysa in season 4.

  • Arthur,

Not familiar with Sarah Bolger, I will have to check it out. I know the Reeds seem to be characters people either love or hate. I really did not care for the Bran / Reed storyline, but maybe they will change my opinion by what they do with them in the show :) It will be fun to see what they do with them.

  • Bonnie Blue,

    I didn’t know who Sarah Bolger was either until people here kept posting her as their pick for the perfect Meera Reed. Short answer on who she is;

She is 21, 5’3″ and a very pretty and capable actress. There is a bunch of stuff on YouTube with her when she played the role of Princess Mary on “The Tudors”. She is a very charismatic cutie. Think of Natalie Dormer, but instead of pulsing sex appeal, Sarah has pulsing cuteness. Which is perfect for Meera. If her chemistry with the actor who plays Bran is there, the scenes should make you smile. =]

  • Mrs. H’ghar,

    Ha! XD
Indeed…. When Rabbit posted her CV I thought it official enough and posted it on SpoilerTV and it looks like that was their source even though I credited Rabbit and her CV as the sources….

I got a response from one of the actors I had suggested for Mero on my casting thread a few hours ago! XD

Julian Seager commented he is a huge fan of the show and appreciated being suggested. Then when I woke up just now his agent commented on the thread that he had nominated Seager for the role, Seager had “trained for the Game of Thrones combat trainer” and he did audition for the role….. But he did not comment any further or give any direct confirmation…. XD

I thought of Seager when looking at the cast of Henry IV/ V on IMDB and thought of Mero straight away I saw his photo. Then when Seager left his CV on my casting thread I noticed he has a small part (featured extra?) in Les Miserables cast by Nina Gold. So maybe …..

I’m looking forward to Henry IV now though. It has Harry Lloyd, Tom Hiddleston, Michelle Dockery, Julie Walters, and Jermey Irons and a nice cast in over all.

Hmm… reminds me….. Richard Griffiths as Wyman Manderly?
    http://i27.tinypic.com/1nzpfo.jpg

  • Macha: Oh you know, the usual, praising R’hllor and rating Stannis’ abilities in bed.

“Did he make those weird grunts and finish after three thrusts with you too?”
“Oh my R’hllor yes, and he has this strange fixation with tables…”

A woman thinks she is having a brain spasm and cannot think of who Mero is, but that guy sure could be Edmure Tully with that ginger hair! If he can act of course. (Edit: I didn’t scroll down far enough, see that Mero is the Mercenary…yeah, he could work for that too).

Richard Griffiths has the look of Wyman Manderly, “too stout to sit a horse” from eating too much lamprey pie indeed! Works for me.

Will Henry IV be a feature film? Cast looks great!

  • Arthur: If her chemistry with the actor who plays Bran is there, the scenes should make you smile. =]

Well, I am willing to put aside my dislike for the Bran/Reed storyline when I watch the show, maybe they can do something that will make me like it better! This is already going to be a difficult wait, there is still a long way to go!

  • Mrs. H’ghar WOW! We’re a source now!

WiC has always been a source, ever since it was the first to break the news about Sean Bean as Ned Stark! :)

Also, I really like Sarah Bolger as Meera. Let’s hope it’s true.

  • Was I going to far in sending a note to Sarah’s agent 2 months ago? after I found out her pilot, GIlded Lillys was not picked up by ABC?

  • darquemode:
    Mrs. H’ghar,

It will be 4 TV movies according to BBC2 press release…. Richard II, Henry IV Part 1 and Part 2, and Henry V. Commissioned by BBC2 as part of their Shakespeare season in 2012.

I guess we get Ben Wishaw, Patrick Stewart, James Purefoy, and David Morrissey in Richard II!

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/shakespeare-cast.html

A woman hopes they will show on PBS in the USA, though they usually show here later than in the UK I think. Sounds classic and wonderful! We do love Shakespeare over here!

So cool that WiC has been a source since the beginning, though a woman only found the site before Season 2 so is behind on WiC history! Can’t wait for more casting news….details please!!!

  • Superdeluxe:

No harm done, a woman is certain.

  • Superdeluxe:

Too far? Not at all. If I recall correctly, a commenter here (Paul Gude) sent a note to Gwendolen Christie’s agent about the role of Brienne, which basically led to her being cast!

  • Superdeluxe,

    Ha!
    Good for you… I don’t think so.

I mean agents are in part suppose to find projects to suggest for their clients and I’m sure a helpful reminder from an outside source can be appreciated…. Maybe. XD

  • Bonnie Blue,

Well, I am willing to put aside my dislike for the Bran/Reed storyline when I watch the show, maybe they can do something that will make me like it better! This is already going to be a difficult wait, there is still a long way to go!

    Yeah you are not alone. Many people on here found the Reeds and Bran’s interactions boring. I think I really enjoyed them because;

1). I loved how Bran could Warg into Summer. I really love those Direwolves!
2). I have great empathy for Bran losing his legs, I had reconstructive spine surgeory and there was a huge chance of me never walking again. So him being a cripple hit me hard.
3). Besides Bran being able to Warg, his life after being crippled, just seemed so depressing. Until Meera and her brother appeared in his life. I felt so happy for him to have friends. Not only friends, ones that would give their lives for him. That pledge they made to him was incredible.

From their pledge on, I really loved the Reeds. And deep down inside, even though Bran is a cripple and much younger then Meera, I hope he can find love with her.

  • Macha,

Man the power went out last night just as I was replying to this post. Yes very powerful scene, hated it though cause it indirectly caused the death of my second favourite character Robb Stark.

  • Alan,

If they age alot of the characters up why can’t they age some down. All I know is that when I saw the trailer for the first time and she got out of the pool I thought to myself, this is what Tyrion must’ve experienced with Lemore.

  • Blood,

Yes Ned is very straightforward in GoT when he says that Bran will never be able to lie with a woman.

  • ok just read the Bran-could-lie-with-Meera-as-Hodor-discussion and think that’s sick, maybe even a tad too sick for GRRM.

  • Aegon the Conqueror:
    Blood,
Yes Ned is very straightforward in GoT when he says that Bran will never be able to lie with a woman.

I dunno. I always thought that meant they’d never be able to find a proper wife for Bran because he’s the second son and he’s crippled. But I could be wrong: the Starks were a major house at the time and even marrying into the family with a disabled ‘spare’ might have been good enough for some lesser nobles.

  • (Like, I thought Ned said something more akin to “he’ll never hold his son in his arms” or something. But I could be remembering incorrectly or misinterpreting.)

  • Pepi,

    Oh geez I hope not!

    Lin Beifunk

Re-reading a GoT, just read that part two days ago. He says both, “he will never lie with a woman, never hold a son in his arms.”
Even if he could not find a wife for Bran that did not mean Bran would never lie with a woman. The fact that Ned says “never be able to” leads me to think that Bran is physically not able to do the deed.

  • Arthur:

And here we go again….if u expect happy endings u are reading the wrong book

  • Hope could certainly be playing (a name-changed) Roslin Frey. It’s a part that needs to be cast, even if for only one episode.

I have a hard time believing that Myranda Royce is on the show’s radar.

  • Alan: “I am sometimes surprised by the reactions of women, in particular, to some of the villains. This had me in stitches because at first I wasn’t paying enough attention and thought he was talking about the women when saying they are deeply troubled individuals. ROFL. Guilty here, George! Not my fault you wrote Jaime and Theon so well. Ok, minus the romantic fascination part, they’re not my type. Stannis is my type…….. We’re both dog lovers, that’s what I meant! Sheesh…

  • I hope Charlotte isn’t fated to play a random King’s Landing (or other location) prostitute a la Daisy. ): I’m probably just being cynical though.

Casting news is exciting news! I also think Tara will be playing Selyse (if you google her, some of the photos look more like Selyse):

    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=tara+fitzgerald&um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&rls=en&biw=1024&bih=611&tbm=isch&tbnid=etSLo0JOsZsDoM:&imgrefurl=http://www.aveleyman.com/FilmCredit.aspx%3FFilmID%3D5729&docid=qtx7S2I2uw0JrM&imgurl=http://www.wearysloth.com/Gallery/ActorsF/5753-5729.gif&w=320&h=240&ei=9XXtT8i5KIah0QXFwcyJDg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=92&vpy=32&dur=125&hovh=192&hovw=256&tx=173&ty=98&sig=118364631621581297028&page=2&tbnh=127&tbnw=160&start=21&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:21,i:219

Besides, I don’t think looks are quite as important as they are for someone like Brienne. It doesn’t really matter if some people would find her attractive, as long as Stannis doesn’t.

  • Screencrush’s source is this thread and Spoiler Tv’s spec. So I would not take that as confirmation of anything regarding Myranda.

  • Pepi:
    Aegon the Conqueror,

Never say something is “tad too sick for GRRM” or he might accept your challange. :D

The thing is if he does something like that Bran is dead as a character for me and i’m sure others too , how can you sympathies with him anymore ? Not to mention i’m gonna lose a lot of respect for Martin because this could feel that he did it for shock value only and nothing else .

  • Aegon the Conqueror,

I think that scene is a little ambiguous- we don’t know whether Melisandre actually did something to ensure the ‘usurpers’ died or she saw their deaths in her flames, and used a bit of theatre- which we know she does when she thinks it necessary- to let Stannis think it was down to her/R’hllor.

  • Looking at more pics of Charlotte Hope I do think she may be Meera.

Not sure why have the name change though. Of course Myranda could be shortened to Myra making it close to the original name.

I really don’t think she will be Myranda Royce/Mya Stone though. She’s either a renamed Meera or a new/namechanged Tyrell Cousin.

  • Tara is Selyse, Natalie is a Handmaiden of Dany and Charlotte is likely a Tyrell.

    That’s my 2 Cents ;-D x

  • Arthur,

Sounds like she will be a hybrid character between Mya Stone (bastard daughter that guides between the Moon Gate and Aeyrie) and Myranda Royce, daughter of lord that guards the Moon Gate. She is feisty and smart. — another strong female character by Ser Martin. The actress is really beautiful though. Does anyone know how old she is? She looks very young.

  • Also, the character Myranda will not be a renamed Meera as on the HBO official announcement of new characters Meera was called Meera, not Myranda!

  • you-know-nothing: Also, the character Myranda will not be a renamed Meera as on the HBO official announcement of new characters Meera was called Meera, not Myranda!

Yara was called Asha on the Official HBO guide until Season 2 aired.

Talisa was called Jeyne in the initial casting announcement and on officially released photo’s even after being named as Talisa in the show.

Sometimes these things change late on.

  • Claudiu Gherganu,

Oh the interviewer asked the question by first describing Ramsay … i.e. “the bastard son of Roose Bolton, with a fleshy appearance and big wormy lips and pale eyes” or whatever and then following that up with “the fans think you would be perfect for this role”

Not surprisingly, he didn’t seem massively flattered.

  • He said, half jokingly, that he wasnt sure if it was a compliment or not.
She just mentioned how some people thought he would be perfect for the role and how GRRM described it. Didn’t mention that a lot of people have said he’s too pretty!!!

  • Ross,

I’ve been watching Misfits after hearing Iwan Rheon was a name associated with potential Ramsay Bolton actors, and now I’m having a hard time imagining anyone else – I’m hoping the Michelle Fairley connection works in his favor! Cillian Murphy is nothing like the Ramsay in my mind – he’s a bit too effete for the role, I thought.

  • Shinyteapot,

Well it was a foreshadowing of what was to come and a little part of me went “NOOOOO!”
Later on a I actually went “NOOO!” and what do you know there flew A Storm of Swords out of my hand and into the trash. Took an hour before I had the nerve to read further. This season is gonna suck for all the typical GRRM reasons.

  • christmas is coming,

LMAO! That’s the best I’ve heard all day!

In other news, let us remember that the man himself GRRM said that he thinks people get too attached to some of the minor characters, which I agree with 100%.

Who are the reeds really? Jojen gets sick and meera walks around with a spear..are they that important? Osha can easily replace the reeds.

What works in the books may not always translate to screen!

  • Claudiu Gherganu,

Well, if Bran is heading where the books (or crackpot theories, rather) imply, he’s heading (cannibalism (Jojen), student of possibly evil Bloodraven n’ stuff), he might very well cross the line of redemption. And he’s close as it is, because warging Hodor is bad enough by itself.

  • Aegon the Conqueror:
    Alan,

If they age alot of the characters up why can’t they age some down. All I know is that when I saw the trailer for the first time and she got out of the pool I thought to myself, this is what Tyrion must’ve experienced with Lemore.

Because there’s a very good chance that the fact that Septa Lemore’s age is vital to her role in the plot.

If she’s just eye candy, sure. But there’s a lot of hints that her history is important. And if it’s important that she was at least a young adult in the time of Robert’s Rebellion, then a twenty year old “actress” won’t make sense. (which is the other issue. Uptown is gorgeous but there’s no evidence she can act, pull off a British accent, etc).

  • Alan,

I’m not seriously suggesting her as a candidate, merely that I thought it took me back to the books. The whole sexy nun thing caught me pleasantly by surprise in the same way that I’m sure Tyrion was. CHarlize Theron would be a much more welcome and serious candidate.

  • Is there a chance they are getting rid of the Queen of Thorns and just making her Margeary’s mother? Basically you’d have a younger Queen of Thorns but still have an older Tyrell to match wits with Cersei.

  • Pepi,

Call me crazy but I’ve never really seen BLoodraven as evil. I wouldn’t be too worried about Bran. Remember his Warg training has been rather unconventional. Had he been trained North of the Wall he would’ve known that it’s an abomination to inhabit another human being. But no one has ever told him that, and seeing as Hodor is a half-wit I don’t think its so bad, it saved their lives on a couple of occasions. Sure its not Ned-like, but isn’t that the reason Ned died?

  • yea, i dont think Bloodraven is evil either. he works together with the children and the children has been fighting the others for centuries. and i also dont think GRRM would make Bran a tree and end his story. i think he is more powerful than Bloodraven b/c Bloodraven is a Targ, while Bran is a Stark and Starks are the first men and has a history with the children and the North. so he might play a major part in the end fighting the others

  • Aegon the Conqueror,

Hm … as far as evil Bloodraven theory is concerned, I’m not entirely sure what to make of it, either. I just mentioned it as a popular theory. But Bran on the other hand … he knows and mentions, that Hodor is terrified, when being warged. And yet that doesn’t stop Bran from doing it. Lol … I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t just spoilertag everything … but it’s fastest this way. And safest. :D

  • Pepi,

Yeah I get that, but remember at that age it’s not weird for boys to love scaring the crap out of people.

    Mrs. H’ghar,
I made a post for the 4-part BBC series The Hollow Crown here:
    http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/06/hollow-crown-bbc-4-part-movie-series.html

Richard II airs tomorrow , June 30 on BBC2
Henry IV part 1 airs Saturday, July 07 on BBC2
Henry IV part 2 didn’t have an air date, but maybe July 14?
Henry Vdidn’t have an air date, but maybe July 21?

It will air on PBS in the future I read!
    Date TBA.

A woman thanks you for your efforts and will be watching the PBS schedule!

  • I’m sorry for flipping the fuck out everyone. Guess I’m just worried about my Reed siblings! :D

  • Julian Walker,

We understand, especially Reed fans. My advice stick to the old saying “In Nina Gold we trust.” and excercise the patience you learned while waiting for ADWD.

  • It would make the most sense if Charlotte Hope has been cast as Roslin Frey.

“Meera” is not problematic in the way that Asha/Osha was.

The show DOES already have a Ros, however.

  • Could obviously be nothing, but according to someone on Reddit who did not have any photographic evidence, Mackenzie Crook was spotted out playing pool with some of the cast (sam, loras, gendry, edd, pip), as well as with Emilia Clarke… there’s a few mentions of it on twitter. I’d love to see him on the show, but not sure who he would play.

  • vargo hoat?!

  • Blink,

I saw this and did a little hunting….
According to this article Mackenzie Crook was in Edinburgh today for some kid’s reading event..
    http://www.edinburghguide.com/news/edinburghbookfestival/10733-bookfestivalgettingkidsinterestedinreading

That does not debunk it exactly…. but…..

If there is any merrit to it I really like him for Tom O’Sevens!
Assuming Tom Sevenstreams gets cast of course….
I mean look at this…Tom is small and has a big mouth, pointy nose and thin brown hair.
    http://www.goseetalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Mackenzie-Crook-as-Marks.jpg
    http://data.celticmediagroup.com/img/2011/03/02/1299064516985.jpg

Vargo Hoat too of course if they choose to ignore that Vargo is supposed to be tall (Crook is 5-8)

  • Winter Is Coming,

    Ha Indeed!
Either way it was never solid evidence against him being in Belfast fo drinks 2 days ago.

I know a lot of people thought of him for Ramsay…. I wonder if he is too old for Ramsay if McElhatton is supposed to be his father?
A bit young for Tom O’ Sevens…. Hoat maybe though… Of course age is relative when it comes to casting!

A waiter in Belfast served Emilia Clarke and Mackenzie Crook on the 28th (or 27th? I’m not sure whether it displays my timezone or the poster’s):
    https://twitter.com/lionking1976/status/218114576917602305
Then Crook left Belfast to London on the 29th, on the same flight as Richard Madden and Emilia:

    https://twitter.com/Cari_from_Mars/status/218415372846632962

And this may or may not be related to GoT, but actor Frankie McGinty had a costume fitting together with Mackenzie Crook on the 25th:
    https://twitter.com/FrankieMcGinty/status/217340747333107712
    Edit:
After checking again, the Frankie McGinty fitting probably happens in London, because someone spotted Crook in Heathrow on the 26th, the night after McGinty tweeted. So maybe McGinty’s not in GoT after all.

    I feel like a stalker /)_(

  • Someone on Twitter also mentioned that Emilia Clarke and Mackenzie Crook had been eating at the restaurant he works at in Belfast.

Another person said she saw all three of them at Heathrow airport 2 days ago.

This adds up as many cast members were over in Belfast to read their scripts and then flew off.

Seems like we got ourself a new cast member.

  • How exciting. Would love Mackenzie Crook in any role. Plus add another Ironclad to the cast. Maybe there is still hope to get James Purefoy too. :)

  • Guys so is it confirmed? Tara Fitzgerald is gonna play Selys?
and Charlotte Hope is gonna play Myranda ? and sorry for the spelling.
    please answer , it’s urgent!

  • negar: Guys so is it confirmed? Tara Fitzgerald is gonna play Selys?and Charlotte Hope is gonna play Myranda ? and sorry for the spelling.please answer , it’s urgent!

Tara is in the show but it’s unknown what role she has. Selyse seems the most likely but it’s not confirmed.

Charlotte is playing a character called Myranda, who this is (a renamed Meera or Missandei, Myranda Royce, a new Tyrell Cousin etc) we don’t know.

  • I would bet money that Crook is Vargo Hoat. Which will be friggin awesome.

    negar,

Nothing is officially confirmed by the show, except I think we can consider Charlotte Hope confirmed as “Myranda” because it’s on her official agency CV.

Fitzgerald is obviously on the show, but we have no confirmation of her role. Selyse is the best fit, but nothing is firm.

  • Ours is the Fury,

    I was trying to recall….
Last year when Oona Chaplin was cast as “Jeyne”, didn’her CV say she would be playing Jeyne?

    Now it says Talisa
    http://www.troikatalent.com/clients/printpdf/conor-mccaughan-and-sam-fox/oona-chaplin/

I’m pretty damned sure I never heard that name Talisa until the season started…. If she was announced as Jeyne last year like I seem to recall, some time between her casting period and today they changed her CV to say Talisa…. Maybe that could happen for Hope and her “Myranda” too then….

Of course, maybe Chaplin’s CV did not have a role named at first? I just don’t recall.

  • Please do someone refresh my memory.

We were somehow “sure” that the casting call for Ramsay Bolton went out.
As I recall they were searching for a young man with awkward look, or something similar.
Did someone really got confirmation it was for Ramsay, or (just dropping an idea) we just thought it had to be Ramsay because at that stage everybody believed Vargo is cut out?

  • MoonCoffee,

    I respect your stalker skills!
When I got home after a pint or two I did not find most of those tweets and the one article I did find I managed to not read all the way! XD

  • Sarah Bolger has been unusually quiet on Twitter for the past 8-10 days, which is a long stretch for her. I wonder if she might be on social media lock down.

  • Good job Darque, Now find out more about Sarah Bolger.

I’ve been checking her agency site and nothing yet!

  • I’m thinking Tara Fitzgerald would make a great Queen of Thorns. It would be easy enough to make her a combination of the mother and grandmother to simplify things. With Tara’s amazing facial bone structure, she could be any age. And it’s a fantastic part, too.

  • maybe she will be some sort of Reed character. what with the running and all … or some willdling. or some escpaed slave from a city in essos that dany takes into her service.

  • The running thing is not a hint of her role. That’s pretty well established at this point. It was the writer being cutesy.

  • Puzzinut, that’s exactly who I was thinking. She can be any age, and that voice can be sweet and both chilling. A bit of makeup and voila! One Queen of Thorns. The photo above doesn’t really give you that impression but I can totally see where you are coming from and I said the same further up the thread. :-)

  • No, she’s not playing Meera Reed. For a start she is too old and secondly Ellie Kendrick is playing Meera Reed. Looking forward to season three, I’m a MAJOR Reed fan. Love Meera! <3
