Rumor: Noah Taylor and Burn Gorman join the cast
By Winter Is Coming on in Casting, Rumors, Speculation.

We have heard from a source that two more actors have joined the cast of Game of Thrones. Both Noah Taylor and Burn Gorman are rumored to be in Belfast, filming now, alongside other Night’s Watch cast members such as James Cosmo (Jeor Mormont), Mark Stanley (Grenn), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) and Ben Crompton (Dolorous Edd).

Noah Taylor is a British-born Australian actor who has been in numerous films such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Lara Croft Tomb Raider. Most recently, he appeared in the mini-series Hatfields & McCoys. Burn Gorman was born in the States, but moved to the UK at a young age. He has appeared in the British TV series The Hour and Torchwood and, most recently, The Dark Knight Rises.

We do not know yet which roles these two actors have been cast in, but given who they are filming with, it seems a safe bet that they are amongst the group of Night’s Watch members that are under attack at the Fist of the First Men. It seems highly unlikely that either of these actors will be Mance Rayder, the one high-profile role yet to be cast. We have had no reports of the wildling cast members, such as Rose Leslie, Mackenzie Crook, or Kristofer Hivju, being in Belfast at this time. Not to mention that most, if not all, of Mance’s scenes will be shot in Iceland.

As usual, we have contacted HBO to see if they can provide confirmation of these rumors and provide us with info on what roles they will be playing.

Winter Is Coming: So two familiar faces, if not familiar names, join the cast. Who do you think they will play? Someone from the books or possibly some entirely new characters?

I was thinking maybe they were beefing up the roles of the Night’s Watch renegades for the mutiny, giving them more lines and having it be focused on a few actors rather than a scattered, less memorable bunch of people.

Either way, they’re both awesome so it’s very exciting news.

I think they have to establish the animosity between some NW members and Mormont that leeds to attack on him at Craster s.Perhaps that was the main reason to cast those two.

I’m thinking we’re seeing Chett and Lark the Sisterman, or perhaps one of the Garths. They won’t be betrayers this time, but probably will be established early as troublemakers within the group, culminating in the slaughter at Craster’s keep.

Definitely thinking Chett and one of his lackeys.

The past two seasons have shown Jeor to be reasonably well-liked. Or at least not actively disliked. They’re going to have to show a few dissenters in order to make the Craster’s Keep scene plausible.

I was thinking maybe Donal Noye for Gorman. He doesn’t go on the ranging, and probably won’t figure prominently into season 3, but should be a pretty big role in season 4, so they might want to introduce him during season 3, especially if Season 3 culminates and season 4 begins with Jon returning to The Wall and having to convince people he’s not a traitor. Of course, Noye gets killed off shortly after, but he’d be a very important character during this time.

Is it too early for Bowen Marsh? I’m only familiar with Gorman, from Torchwood and the Hour, and he seems to be too big for a bit character.

  29. Josh Parker
    Posted August 8, 2012 at 4:41 pm | Permalink

The problem with suggesting Bowen Marsh is that he needs to be the one left in charge of the Wall. He can’t go on the ranging because he’ll be killed and then who would be the main adversary for Jon in the fifth/sixth seasons?

Nah. Due to the rangy looks of both actors I stick by my original prediction.

    Posted August 8, 2012 at 4:44 pm | Permalink

Let me elaborate; since up until now they’ve left out any kind of dissent in the Night’s Watch ranks, they’re gonna have to introduce it this season, and it’s likely going to be a big plot point. So for those saying that Chett, Lark, the Garths or other NW roles are “too small”, I think they’ll be extended. Hell, Mackenzie Crook is playing a character with no lines and only one scene in the novels, so obviously that’s an extended role.

  33. Ellen
    Posted August 8, 2012 at 4:48 pm | Permalink

Well, technically, in show canon, we don’t know who was left in charge of the wall. Maybe it was Pyp! Bowen could be at the ranging, have some scenes with the dissenters, and then escape w/ Grenn and Co. If they want to foreshadow his betrayal of Jon in Book 5.

But I agree it’s more likely they are Chett & the Gang.

    Josh Parker,

The only problem with this is that the Fist is already being attacked. How much time and story can really elapse before those who survive the Fist regroup at Craster’s to develop these roles? I suppose they could overlap the timeline a bit, showing what’s going on with these characters before the three horn blows, and show a bit of the attack and failed defense itself, but aside from Sam doing his slaying, this would be expensive, difficult to pace so early in the season, and largely unnecessary. Maybe they could hang out at Craster’s for a bit longer than in the books? It almost seems the way they’ve done it, the mutiny has to be a bit more organic and less pre-meditated than in the books. You’ve just been attacked buy a crapton of dead people and ice demons, are you really going to be thinking about planning a mutiny?

Here’s a possibility if they want to rework the story–fast foward to after the attack. Those loyal to the NW regroup at Craster’s. Meanwhile, a splinter group that had deserted plans to raid Craster’s for provisions. When they realize the main contingent has regrouped there, they feign a late arrival, only to surprise attack/mutiny later. This would allow the characters to be developed separately, having conciously deserted prior to arriving at Craster’s, and allow this storyline to progress a bit further throughout season 3, rather than have it happen as quickly as it happens in the book. The main contingent of NW could spend most of Season 3 at Craster’s, collecting stragglers, taking advantage of an increasingly irritated Craster, until things come to a head towards the end. Then you just basically pick up Sam’s story from there in season 4, including meeting Coldhands and traveling through the Black Gate and encountering Bran.

Or these two could be Bowen Marsh (a bit reimagined, but I can definitely see it) and Donal Noye (as I suggested above), respectively. I’d be fine either way.

They gotta be the guys murdering the old bear. I think there’ll be one or two scenes of them slogging through the snow after the esacpe from the fist, where they question the lord commanders authority, before the showdown at Crasters. Sam is the only none conspirator that witness the betrayal, before he runs of with Gilly. Later they could pose as Jons adversaries in the election, giving Sam more reason, that the views can easily follow, to not wanting them elected.

I think it is highly unlikely we will get Donal, considering that they gave one of his most poignant scenes to Tyrion is S1. The scene where Donal breaks up the fight between Rast, Grenn, Pyp, etc and then kinda puts it to Jon as a “show off” due to his upbringing at Winterfell really initiated Jon’s respect and adoration for Donal, making the pivotal scene at Castle Black later on, more meaningful. Transposing this to Tyrion means that they will really need to beef up the role if they do cast him to make an impact later on.

Methinks they will just cut it out altogether.

I remember seeing Burn Gorman in TDKR and thinking “wow! Who is this guy” whoever up thread said he looks like an aliens idea of a human is spot on- he’s a one person example of the uncanny valley effect! great thing to have for a character actor. It brings some menace despite his slight figure.

Being Australian I adore Noah, he’s very well known here and beloved of top directors around the world. I could see either as Mance as based on the West speculation this follows the age/ less tough guy looking casting Nina and KLB are going for.

No, Vargo hasn’t been cast yet. But I don’t consider that character to be very “high-profile”, certainly not a large enough role to be getting a “name” actor. We already know they are looking at name actors for Mance.

    darquemode:

Yes, I would assume so. The exception being stuff they will film at Craster’s Keep. Last season Craster’s was filmed at Clandeboye Estate, near Belfast. As it happens, we’ve had reports of them setting up for filming at Clandeboye recently. The timing of which aligns perfectly with all these actors being spotted in Belfast and seems to suggest they will be filming the mutiny at Craster’s Keep very soon.

    Winter Is Coming,

    Ahhh, ok.
I assume they will be conspirators like others stated then and maybe not NW back at the Wall.

Taylor would be an interesting Lark the Sisterman. Wasn’t he nervous-eyed with sharp features? From what I recall Softfoot was a little man, Gorman fits that. So many of those conspirators have such vague descriptions almost any actor could fit and many of the small roles could easily be combined into a existing conspirator or even a new role like you mentioned in the post.

If they choose to keep a name or two from the books and enhance the roles like they did with casting Mackenzie Crook as Othell and not Varamyr, I like the name Softfoot and Lark the Sisterman more than some of the others..

  75. Ours is the Fury
    Posted August 8, 2012 at 8:59 pm | Permalink

Based on our experience with the adapting of the names, I’d guess we’ll see simple names for the NW like Chett and Lark, without the Sisterman. S2 had Polliver basically doing everything Raff the Sweetling did in ACOK, and Orell is a way less interesting name than Varamyr, but then Varaymyr does sound like Faramir. The showrunners like simpler versions of the names, it seems.

    Ours is the Fury,

    D’oh!
Of course Crook was cast as Orell not Othell… was in my brain from thinking of Night’s Watch members I guess.

I thought Crook would be Orell instead of Varamyr when trying to think of Wildlings he could be before the casting news because of the name and Crook having a “bird-like” appearance. I think Sixskins begs to have a backstory told as to how he got the name (which the book did in an awesome way, but the series won’t have time to do) , Orell is simple like you stated, and it streamlines how mnay animals the character can warg into and therefore how many have to be filmed or created in CGI..

You’re probably right about Lark losing “the Sisterman” if they chose his name and character to use. I still like Softfoot though… not sure why. The name just amuses me! XD

Plus, whenever I hear “Chet” I think of Bill Paxton as the bastard brother in Weird Science! XD

They both do have rather intense gazes in those pics, which may imply unhappy men of the NW, or BWB, or even Ironborn? Just because they’re filming near or at the Painthall doesn’t really confine them to being NW since there are many indoor scenes all over the realm that could be on the film schedule now, no?

Ours is the Fury: So is Burn Gorman, as it happens. The current filming rumors point toward the Night’s Watch, but it’s interesting. Gorman is a very good singer (and beatboxer, apparently).

I definitely agree with the idea that they’ll be Night’s Watch dissenters in expanded roles, though.
Though..Taylor doesn’t strike me as fitting that kind of role. He’s a FANTASTIC actor, one of my all time favorites (no joke, been following him since “The Year My Voice Broke”). Great range, but seditious? I don’t doubt he can probably pull it off, it’s just a departure from my view of him.

I’ve really liked Noah Taylor ever since I saw Flirting. When I saw him In that movie I thought he looked just like Nick Cave. He was in a music video for The Bad Seeds and then he was in The Proposition, which was scored by Nick Cave. Wouldn’t it be cool if Nick Cave did a song for GoT, say a certain Bear and The Maiden Fair?

Some of you mentioned Bowen Marsh. Here‘s an interview, where Brian Fortune, the guy who played Marsh in S1, mentions, that he’s returning for S3. Whether he was told that by his friends who’ve read the book, or the showrunners, I don’t know.

And more on topic; I’m wondering what they’re shooting in Belfast. Craster’s keep #2? If so, I’m glad, because I always figured, they’ll just kill off the Old Bear during the Fist of the First Men attack, considering how they left Craster in the series. About the roles, I’m also pretty sure, those two will be the main face and voice of NW mutineers. Or, one of them could also be one of the good guys. Dywen, maybe.

Who is this guy” whoever up thread said he looks like an aliens idea of a human is spot on- he’s a one person example of the uncanny valley effect! great thing to have for a character actor. It brings some menace despite his slight figure

Noah Taylor is brilliant, and….GUPPY!! Heh, I can’t believe it, this is fantastic news! I was watching The Hour just the other day, wondering how cool it would be for Mr. Kish to find his way into this show. He’s brilliant, and would have also made a great Ramsay.

Come to think about it, I’m not so sure the Battle at the Fist will be filmed in Iceland. I’m pretty certain a sound stage will be required for it. Just think of the visual effects and choreography – this will involve a lot of takes, green screen etc. I’m thinking it’ll be a mix of locations, at best.

I don’t see them using an actor like Noah Taylor in a role like Chett or Lark (something that really would only be 2-3 episodes even if they expanded it). He’s been a well-regarded character actor since the mid-1990′s when he was in Shine. So I will predict that he will be an amalgam of Bowen Marsh and Cotter Pyke . . . i.e. he is there to escape Craster’s after the mutiny, is back at Castle Black when Jon arrives and helps Jon defend the Wall, maybe is the person who is sent to Eastwatch to rally men and ends up bringing Stannis, and is one of the candidates in the choosing that Sam “tricks” into supporting Jon, then later on is the one who ultimately betrays Jon. I just see them meshing a lot of this stuff into one character. Or, maybe I’m completely wrong and Taylor’s schedule only allowed for him to be in a couple of episodes as a NW mutineer like Chett.

Anyone know if Peter Vaughan (Maester Aemon) will be returning for season 3? One of the drawbacks of this gargantuan cast is that I always fear for actors who are unable to return and in some cases are consequently recast. We’ve seen it with disastrous results with the Mountain. Also Clive Mantle has been unable to be in seasons 2 or 3. Thankfully Ian McElhinney and Josef Altin will be returning.

There’s a difference between expressing an opinion and mentioning something like that as if it’s some kind of established, indisputable fact. What, specifically, in your opinion, were the “disastrous results?” Keep in mind “I didn’t like it” doesn’t exactly count as “disastrous results,” it counts as “I didn’t like it.”

“Disastrous results” implies that something…well, disastrous resulted from it, like ratings or viewers dropping, cancellation, anything at all that’s actually a negative effect aside from your personal dislike, which no one but you could possibly have reason to call “disastrous.”

One of the drawbacks of this gargantuan cast is that I always fear for actors who are unable to return and in some cases are consequently recast. We’ve seen it with results that I personally did not care for very much, nonetheless I accept that others may hold opinions that differ greatly and they are of course welcome to feel that way, their opinions are valid too, in fact even more valid than mine since mine are “unreasonable”, with the Mountain. Also Clive Mantle has been unable to be in seasons 2 or 3. Thankfully Ian McElhinney and Josef Altin will be returning.

Yeah, that’s happened with people in my circles too.

I dunno, recasting an actor shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for anyone. These things are inevitable on a multiyear commitment like GoT. I just wish they’d got somebody who could be as physically imposing as the guy they’d lost. Armor and creative editing can go a long way, but having a terrifying specimen of a guy actually on the screen, requiring less smoke-and-mirrors trickery…I have to think it’s going to result in a less memorable certain upcoming confrontation.

Whatever, though. Very little of the show can actually meet or surpass the imagination. I’m sure whatever we get will work out fine.

I still think that both of these guys could be playing non-nights watch roles, Gorman’s face is very recognizable right now with the success of TDKR, and Taylor is a fairly well known character actor, Chett and Lark are throwaway characters who figure to have little screen time, and I doubt Marsh or Noye will appear til late in the season if at all, so I really think these guys have a good shot at being Bloody Mummers, why couldn’t they be seen in Belfast and be filming other indoor scenes?

I’m pretty sure that the Fist of the First is an Iceland location, basically any time you see an ice field that’s going to be Iceland while any time you see an interior (whether it be the inside of a tent even) that’s going to be the paint hall. So I can’t see why Belfast filming at this stage would rule anyone out of potential casting.

A guy in my office has been a Night’s Watch extra on both seasons and he has seven days at the end of August. His previous filming has been Castle Black and Crasters. I’ll be sure to get what gossip I can from him in the coming weeks!

I have heard that Jesse Williams has been cast for daario. He def looks the part overall though they will have to make him much rougher around the edges

That’d be a great casting choice if true!

The question with Daario in my mind was always how extreme they go on the makeup. Done badly, the blue and gold whatnot and the moustachios etc would look like a fairly crappy pantomime pirate.

So hopefully they can get the mix right and have him swashbuckling and gaudy, yet keep it believable that Dany wants to go there.

He’s got incredible eyes and a fairly unique look overall… One Swedish and one African American parent, with a bit of Seminole in the mix for good measure. I never got into Grey’s, but my wife did, and will surely be excited!

Wait and see if any hard evidence pops up before we get too excited. He was on a few fan favorite lists for Daario, but I haven’t been able to find anything beyond fan speculation via google as yet.

I’d vote for him to be a great Daario though.

Thinking back on it, a lot of the characters actually looked kind of cartoony and ridiculous in my head (especially Daario and the Greyjoys). Casting real live humans in the roles helps me out here…

Jesse Williams is a regular on Grey’s Anatomy, which shoots about 22 episodes per season. I really doubt he’d have time for another show right now. Plus he’s American. I think this is just a fan’s wishful thinking.

    jkb,

I liked the fact that Ian’s mountain appeared taller on screen at least than Stevens, he wasn’t near as menacing though, I’m also pretty sure his voice was dubbed fwiw

Ian Whyte is certainly more than tall enough. If the voice was dubbed, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t him- actors often re-record their lines in a sound studio, so anything that hasn’t been picked up by outdoor microphones etc can be dubbed over.

Had it been up to me, I’d have had Whyte play a different (but still terrifying) Lannister bannerman and just mentioned that the Mountain is off killing peasants or whatever else he likes doing. Then they could have either asked Stevens to return or recast with a stuntman, since in future series Gregor’s role will be physical only. But I’m sure there was a good reason for the decision, and hopefully as the story progresses everyone will get used to the recast.

    Dfg421,

Where did you hear this? No offence intended, if it’s a reliable source then it’s less likely that this is someone pulling your leg. If it’s imdb, anyone could have added it (like Fury says, probably from wishful thinking).

Do we know when Dany’s scenes will be filmed? I suppose Daario will need to be cast sometime soon if he’s not already? And more importantly, Strong Belwas :)

Anne Hathaway’s cat woman was the best executed part of TDKR. Writing, acting, directing – they took a character who almost always comes off ridiculous and made her enjoyable and absolutely fit to the tone.

While I like Harry potter, I have no urge to see any actors from there in Got. The association is not one they should be making.

I think there are a number of actors outside of the core kids in the Potter series I would not mind being cast. There were some seriously great actors in that cast (mostly in supporting roles). Not to mention some Potter actors already cast in Thrones Like David Brantley as Walder Frey and Natalia Tena as Osha

I know some people have those actors in their Potter roles imprinted in their minds, but most were pretty big departures from their normal appearance and heightened caricatures more than real dramatic roles.

Maybe it’s just me, but I NEVER watch Jason Isaacs in a role and think “That’s Lucius Malfoy!”

    Dfg421,

Obviously you have never seen him act and are just going off the picture, which doesn’t really represent what he looks like when his face actually moves. He’s a genuinely creepy guy, who looks, as many have said here, like an alien’s idea of a human or a golem or something. He would RULE as Ramsey, and he’s way too weird to be Satin.

  163. Josh Parker
    Posted August 10, 2012 at 1:10 pm | Permalink

Not that I think he’s Ramsay. We know Iwan Rheon has been cast in that role, plus Gorman is obviously a Night’s Watchman.

Honestly, if these guys are anything other than Chett and Lark (or Garth, but I think they’ll use Lark), I’ll be surprised.

In the book, Chett and Lark are conspirators to kill Mormont and head south. This plot element is obviously not going to be included, because as soon as readers are made aware of Chett and Lark’s plans, the NW are attacked by White Walkers. Since we’ve seen the beginning of that attack, already, I think the story is going to be changed somewhat.

Chett and Lark don’t survive the White Walker attack, but here, they could, since they haven’t been introduced yet. Several of the Brothers in Black do survive, Mormont, Sam, Edd and Grenn among them. They then make it back to Craster’s Keep, terrified, exhausted, hungry, bitter and angry. After rumors get started that the Old Bear knows Craster has extra food that he’s withholding fromt the Brothers, they kill Craster, and the Old Bear.

In the series, it won’t be hard at all to expand Sam’s story a bit by showing the extended aftermath of the attack; Chett and Lark growing more bitter and angry as they travel south, just sure the Old Bear is holding out on them, and leading them to ruin, and then they start the issues at the Keep.

    Mrs. H’ghar’s Twin,

Yes, and Orell in the novels has no lines and has already been killed and stuck inside his bird at this point. In other words, it doesn’t matter what minor characters’ roles were in the books. They can be expanded upon or act as composite characters, as I detailed.

  167. Josh Parker
    Posted August 10, 2012 at 2:09 pm | Permalink

Mrs. H’ghar’s Twin: Having a Night’s Watchman plan mutiny with no buildup is a bit jarring

Well, okay, but I did suggest that this wouldn’t be a planned mutiny.

See, obviously there’s no planned mutiny this time, but they have to give Sam a bit more of a beefed-up plot, since otherwise all he’ll have is a few scant scenes. Part of the plot could be the remnants of the NW who survived the attack facing death by freezing and starvation, with Chett and Lark, or whatever names they use, being the leading voices of dissent: “The Old Bear led us up here to die! We never asked for this!” And then…Craster’s Keep, which I’m thinking will happen in about episode 6 or thereabouts.

And yes, Orell will likely be a composite character, probably taking the place of not only Varamyr, but maybe Jarl, Harma and possibly Styr. But then, Chett and Lark (if those are the names they use) can be stand-ins for the Garths, and other troublemakers within the NW.

Yeah, you’re right. I was thinking specifically of Robbie Coltrane, the kids, and some of the other high profile adults.

Jason Isaacs would be fine, as well as some of the other minor adults.

But anything where I tie the actor to Harry Potter is just not a good fit to me. Harry Potter is great, but its fantastical in nature, about as opposite from ASOIF as another fantasy can be. Coltrane as Hagrid is a goofy caricature, and that works for Harry Potter.

I found another quote by Donal Noye ( while looking up your earlier post and maester

me because I’m better than them” Donal replies ” No. They hate you because you act
like you’re better than them “. I’d admit GoT tweaking made for a good bonding

I’ve heard GRRM say in different interviews that he does plan on more novellas on Dunk and Egg. Depending on which interview somewhere around 5 (or as many as 9 more) addtional short stories that will cover all of Dunk and Egg’s life.

Also once he finishes the fourth installment (currently in progress) it will be released in another anthology like the previous versions and then sometime after that there will be an official Dunk and Egg book with the first 4 short stories included. At least according to what GRRM said on his ADWD book tour.

Also for anyone that wants the short stories. Amazon has all 3 available for just over $40.

I read it as you wanting more of the short stories… Ooops.

Yes it would make for a good mini-series event as a stall tactic if the TV series catches up to (or passes) GRRM.

    Aegon the Conqueror:
    WildSeed,

If you want I can email you the digital version on the promise that you do indeed buy yourself a hardcopy. It is an amazing story that I sincerely hope will become a series.
yes the several mistakes you have made were really funny, but you have plenty of time to recitify that as re-reading all five before the next book comes out is really easy. I’m thinking you can do 4 or 5 actually. Though saying that makes me feel very depressed!

Did you read my post to Omar Brown ? So glad I confessed, I had no idea I had been
sniggered at !LOL !! Well I’m studying to win any trivia question in the near future :D
Actually I’ve done well here by the occasional corrections I’ve made here at WiC
to certain posters. But I’m quite ignorant of a few pertinent facts so I must read
more and enjoy every moment of it.
As I’d mentioned, I have now ” the Hedge Knight” via the hard bound version of
“Legends” AND ” The Sworn Sword ” from a paperback titled ” Legends II”. I also
purchased ” Dreamsongs II ” but I forget whether that included a duplicate of the
2 mentioned or “Mystery Knight ” ? I think not though so I may need a copy of
The Mystery Knight. Thank you for the digital version offer but I prefer a hard
copy. In the future I plan to get a iPad because my MacBook Pro is a bit heavy
to use in the place of a book ( and I also have that pesky Autoimmune Arthritis
issue to exacerbate the issue is discomfort ). IMHO ser George must include
additional Dunk and Egg books for the future because 100 years is a long gap
from ASOIAF. Did you really laugh at some of my innocent blunders ? Did you
realise that I am a descendant of the “Children of the Forest”? my height is a
    gigantic clue :D

    WildSeed,

Hmmm now the seed refference makes sense as well as the height my short friend.
Yes I politely looked past the Jory is Rodricks son statement, but could not let the one about Egg go.
Actually depending on your phone you can probably put the book on there. Always have adigital version of some book on my phone as that allows me to read any time I want.
Agreed on YvyB, I have indeed found her to be both amusing and entertaining.
Well I will keep silent on the sister issue seeing as that’s the one point that freaks me out a little bit, plus I don’t think my girlfriend will like it very much. She tends to become a dragon rather than ride one Im afraid.
On a different previous topic, wanted to ask you, on the Maroon 5 parody song (suppose this depends on which version you have) do you also find yourself unabashadley singing along with the “ducky of awesome” part? ROTFL!

Re: Maroon5 Parody, I found the “key of awesome” quite annoying so I purchased it
from iTunes for $0.99 and play it at my leisure. As for your marriage, I believe every
mistress and kingdom dweller is aware of their allegiance to your grace and the realm.
They may not speak of it openly or perhaps willingly suffer because of it but it seems
cruel to remind them of that rule. It is their duty is all. Note that I do not include
myself with the aforementioned , as we of the first inhabitants do. As an descendant
of the ” Children of the Forest”, we do not bend the knee to the descendants of the
ancient Valyria. May the old Gods grant you wisdom and peace in the ensuing years.

    Aegon the Conqueror,

I’ve heard GRRM say in different interviews that he does plan on more novellas on Dunk and Egg. Depending on which interview somewhere around 5 (or as many as 9 more) addtional short stories that will cover all of Dunk and Egg’s life.

Alsoonce he finishes the fourth installment (currently in progress) it will be released in another anthology like the previous versions and then sometime after that there will be an official Dunk and Egg book with the first 4 short stories included. At least according to what GRRM said on his ADWD book tour.

Also for anyone that wants the short stories. Amazon has all 3 available for just over $40.

    http://www.amazon.com/Legends-II-Dragon-Sword-King/dp/034547578X/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_y

If you go to each book’s page you can find more used and new versions to buy too.

Yes . I believe I ned to buy ” Warriors” to add to my collection for ” The Mystery Knight”.
Together WikiPedia and Amazon customer reviews taught or gave me vital facts on
which version to purchase or avoid. Thanks for posting this here for everyone to see.
I posted some weeks ago this info when someone queried about one of these books
but never received it feedback if she made her purchase find as I did. I’m tech-

Just finished the triumphant Tywin in the throne room chapter. Must say I’m very sorry about two things the series left out. 1 Josmyn Peckledon a 14 year old squire who killed two knights, wounded a third and captured two more! Ok I know there was no way he was ever gonna make it but still that’s flipping badass! 2 Joffrey throwing a temper tantrum about accusations that he is not the real king and cutting himself quite badly on the Iron Throne, thereby proving he is not the rightful king. Very powerful moment and would’ve given Joff haters something to smile over.

    WildSeed,

Embedding links is easy, but not really intuitive at first glance so I can’t blame you for not knowing how to do it.

    Just 5 easy steps…
Step 1: Copy the link you want to embed in your comment
Step 2: Begin your comment and click and drag the corsur over the word or words in your comment that you want to embed the link behind to highlight them.
Step 3: Once they are highlighted click on the “link” button at the top of the comment box.
Srep 4: Paste your copied link into the pop up entry blank.
    Step 5: Click “OK”

Of course you can use the HTML tags below too, but the button generates them automatically for you so it is easier for many people.

    darquemode,

Greetings darquemode, I’ve just returned from perusing the Amazon site and noticed
some insane person has listed ” the Sworn Sword ” for $ 328.00. I couldn’t laugh
this time. Unlike many who shop online, I prefer to touch and review items I’d buy.
The internet was a tool to do comparison shopping and a bit of research to be
efficient with my time. I also like buying locally and grateful for the many resources
here in the SF Bay Area. When I found myself undergoing a long convalescence in
my home, I moved to online activity as a option. I made a mistake and purchased an
item on Amazon that was marked up 200%….when I found out I petitioned but found
out about the no return policy from the seller, Amazon could not help or remedy the
situation. I wrote a scathing review of the seller and haven’t seen his ” business ” listing
any other items. Phew what a lesson! I’m sure IvyB will find her books, I was incredibly
    green at the time.

    darquemode,

I really hope they do, him crying for his mother and staggering around makes his statements about killing Stannis and Robb seem much funnier. Also I love the design of the Iron Throne, looks amazing but I can’t help but think that they made it a bit more benign for safety reasons I guess? Can’t see someone cuting themselves by just sitting on it.

You know, when the Targaryen backstory piles up too much in my head and I begin confusing the names, I always end up referring to this illustrated family tree. You might have already seen it, but I thought I’ll share just in case it since I find it very handy.

    darquemode,
Thank you for taking the time to show the link thing. BTW I’m also hoping for some form of the throne scene to make its way next season. It’s such a telling visual!

    Aegon the Conqueror,
Maybe he can bang his fist on it forcefully while making some silly remark on how he’s gonna rain hell on someone else and thus cut himself?

  217. Aegon the Conqueror

    Tír Airgid,

You see the reason why it was so telling is because it happened right after one of Stanni’s captured bannermen (florent, I think) proclaimed him to be a false king. Him cutting himself on the throne causes the bannerman to tell the entire court that even the throne denies him.

darquemode had a interesting thought that GoT may add the Iron Throne cut in the
upcoming season. Aegon I perspectives note excellent reasons for the inclusion.
I did like the inclusion of his getting whiney at the “Blackwater” episode , Lancel

agree he should suffer some dishonor in front of his court as well.

Ah yes the scene where Lancel tells him his mother requests him is priceless. The look on his face when Tyrion tells him he should lead and he realises for all his brave talk he has no balls is incredibly well acted by Jack. It’s one of my favourite scenes in season 2. But alas still not humiliation in front of the nobles he wants to rule. Hopefully they’ll find some way for it to be included in season 3, a way that will make it obvious to everyone the Targeryen Throne deems him unfit to rule in the same way it did Aerys.

Samwell thought it was strange when Gilly mentioned it. Jon needed reminding as well in ADWD.

I know a handful of couples who waited a week or two before officially naming the child (in most cases because they were still trying to sway each other on a particular name or because they couldn’t decide on a spelling) and who would also find it strange if someone else waited years to do so, but… I’m clutching at straws.
I think you’re right, and birthday and nameday for the non-wildings are meant to signify the same event. So there goes my theory. And I’ll have to find another excuse in my attempt to peddle a second birthday party next year. :D

    Alan,

The Dunk & Egg stories need to be collected in a single volume, considering how crazy it is trying to find a legitimate copy. I wonder what might the chances be of persuading Mr Martin to make it happen. I’d really like to read them, and with a new story coming out, time seems to be right.

LOL. My aunt tried that once until one of us caught on. Since she nor any of her
siblings have written birth documents. My mother’s birthday is celebrated as ” Bastille”
Day. Imagine if one them were born the day ” London Bridge Comes Falling Down”,a
rather stupid song I heard when I came to the States. Anyway I believe Birthdays
may be celebrated any day of the year by those whom hold you affectionate ( family
and friends of course). I may be a stranger but I wish you a wonderful name day.

Yes but not soon enough, have you seen the different versions that appear on “A Wiki
of Ice And Fire ” on Westeros’s site ? I had a headache even after digesting the correct
ISBN and book jackets that apply. I would hope it’s being done as we speak. May it so,
there needs to be a royal edict !

A really cool factoid I just learned in a Wiki ASOIAF reference from AFOC is that
” Brienne has her shield painted with the arms that match Duncan the Tall’s…”
I wonder if that was when she entered the tourney to win a place in king Renley’s
    army?

    WildSeed,

No Brienne has her shield painted over while in Duskendale in A Feast for Crows ….
The Sigil on the shield she had been using is drawing unwanted attetnion so she has a girl paint over it. She does not want to use her own house’s sigil since she is rumored to be Renly’s murderer, so she has the girl paint the sigil of a shield that she recalls from her father’s armory when she was young.

Yes I somewhat remember that section from AFOC ( and decidedly long after Renly’s
death ) . That was before she discovered P****ck following her and as she set out for
search of S***a . I believe she stayed at a funky Inn. I’ll cover that again during my
re-read of the books. Anyway, did Westeros Wiki ASOIAF get that wrong about the
re-painted sigil bearing no likeness to ser Dunk’s?

    WildSeed,

No I don’t think they got it wrong.

Honestly, I don’t recall EXACTLY what Dunk’s shield looked like., but I do recall that there were striking similarities between what Brienne described and Duncan the Tall’s Sigil. I’m not sure they were exactly the same from the details I recall, but I am sure that readers were supposed to catch on to the fact that the sigil on the shield in her father’s armory that the girl painted was inspired by Dunk’s. Well assuming the reader has read Dunk and Egg that is ! XD

I know some people have theorized that Brienne is descended from Duncan the Tall, but I never really looked for supporting evidence to the theory so I’m not sure if it is possible or not honestly. The shield alone is not too convincing, but if history repeats itself and BRienne ends up being Captain of the King’s Gaurd for the new King/Queen at the end of the saga I will believe the theory! XD

I couldn’t wait so I reviewed AFFC for the passage and got lucky with the confirmation.
I think I confused you earlier by asking if she did this before Renly’s death. From the
” Hedge Knight ” Ser Duncan the Tall ‘s shield was painted with the scene of a tall
elm tree near a brook and a night sky with a shooting star in the background. I just
finished reading the book last week and the image and the inspiration for it hasn’t
left me yet. I have so much gladness for Egg, prince Baelor and the young girl that
painted ser Dunk’s shield. I hope they meet again. The entire town saluted him in
his chivalric act and reinforced his confidence and sense of duty. I also learned the
reason why the Fossoway’s have 2 apple colour patterns. These books simply must
be read by all. Unless otherwise prompted I’m gonna stay away from specifics from
now on. Have a good night, it’s still PM over here.

    jkb,

ha I don’t think I understand your reply. Sounds like you’re trying to mock me but I don’t get it I guess

I’ve never seen this burn Gorman act so I found some YouTube video of him in what seemed like a sitcom. Still don’t see him playing an evil bastard, but I guess he’s versatile from what people are saying…

So I didn’t know this beforehand, but the actors have to be European because of licensing/citizenship issues???? That kinda sucks, there’s a lot of good American actors…

Read ab Jesse Williams being cast for Daario on a Random google search so I can’t verify any truth. As far as Greys Anatomy goes, jeez when is that show getting cancelled???? It would be a shame to have to pass this show up for that one because that show crashed and burned a long time ago. I used to love it early on but it’s gotten repetitive and ridiculous, and the horridly unrealistic way they portray the world of medicine became too much to take for me. According to Greys Anatomy, doctors do ALL the work required of patient care, from sitting w patients for long hours to nursing tasks such as starting IVs and transporting patients throughout the hospital (and every other nursing task). As an RN myself, this show has become almost insulting to nurses.

  268. The Sand Snake
    Posted August 14, 2012 at 3:33 am | Permalink

One of the most ridiculously unrealistic aspects of Greys Anatomy: That the attending surgeon apparently is able to attend every single time his patients code. They are almost NEVER present, they show up afterward or hear about it over the phone

Oh and apparently there’s always a gaggle of surgeons in the ER just hoping a patient requiring emergent surgery will be brought in. Also, this same gaggle of surgeons run the ER simultaneously every day. Nurses?? Who needs em!!!? Apparently a surgeon functions as every possible specialty of medicine as needed. Pure horsesh*t

At Olympus this year he indicated that the publication date is likely mid 2013 – I suppose that’s so as not to hurt sales of the anthology Dangerous Women that will hold the first publication of the fourth story when it comes out this autumn.

It will be very interesting to see what is going on in Winterfell when Dunk and Egg visit! How old will Old Nan be? Does she go by a different name, Young Nan or Nymeria like some think? Will we get some information that connects Hodor to Dunk’s descendancy?

    I think a re-read of D&E is in order……

    WildSeed,

There’s not too much evidence as I have seen, but there’s enough to make you wonder. GRRM stated some of Dunk’s descendants were featured in AFFC, there’s the shield she remembers from her father’s armory and off course there’s her freakishly large size, strenght and skill at arms.

Yep. I can’t imagine they’d cannibalize sales of the anthology. I don’t know about outside the us, but it’s pretty easy to find the right books in the US. If I have a moment, I’ll link to the right ones on Amazon.

brienne is almost certainly a descendant of Dunk, IMO, the size nd the shield being he hints. But even if she’s not that shield found its way from dunk to the armory of Tarth.

WHell I’ll tell you a story of disappointment…. in the UK book 3 and 5 are split in two parts . Bare in mind I got my books from several locations all separately. I think it was book 3 part 1 had missing chapters at the end ( from Amazon) AND THEN as if I hadn’t been unlucky enough book 5 part 1 had repeated chapters at the end. That’s frustrating. All sorted now though :)

Bought the boxset from amazon, but bought my ADWD in two seperate copies the same as you. Busy with the re-read (just started ASOS) so hopefully when I get to ADWD nothing will be wrong with it.
