Season 3 Returning Cast Updates
By Ours is the Fury on in Filming.

Filming is in full swing now and news of returning cast members is trickling in. Actors we haven’t seen since the first season, but confirmed to be returning in season 3 include:

  • Josef Altin as Pyp. Pyp was left behind at Castle Black when the rangers traveled beyond the Wall in season 2.
  • Luke McEwan as Rast, the Night’s Watchman who antagonized Jon Snow and Samwell in the first season.
  • Ian McElhinney, as Ser Barristan Selmy, the dismissed Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

A Brazilian interview with Lino Facioli, the child actor who plays Robin Arryn, led some to conclude he was definitely returning in season 3. However, the article is unclear. It mentions Robin appearing in season 3, but the statement appears to be based on the character being in A Storm of Swords. Given that the novel is being split into two seasons, it’s not certain whether we’ll see him in next year or in season 4. Kate Dickie, who plays Lady Lysa Arryn, has not been confirmed yet as being in season 3, and we’re unlikely to see Robin without his mother.

UPDATE: SweetSigma was kind enough to let us know Kate Dickie‘s agent has confirmed that the actress will be returning in September to film scenes as Lysa Arryn. If Dickie is in, then Facioli most likely is, after all! Very interesting info, considering many thought we would not see the Eyrie again until season 4.

Clive Mantle, who plays the Greatjon, has been confirmed as not returning to the show for the third season.

It is not yet known whether David Bradley will be returning as Lord Walder Frey, or if other first-season Night’s Watch characters such as Maester Aemon and Ser Alliser Thorne will be appearing.

Ours is the Fury: Altin mentioned on Twitter that he would start filming in September, but McEwan tweeted that he had already been filming, and so I believe Rast has been added to the Night’s Watch group led by Mormont, traveling beyond the Wall.

Nice! If they cut David Bradley would be a shame..a RW without Filch to clean all the blood

Sad about Clive, now I want to know about the actors of Rorge, Biter and Yara/Asha..does anyone have some update about them ?

And about Lino, I’m assuming the brazilian is not just a big ASOIAF fan and thinks that the series follow the books, and only said that he is in season 3 because he appears in aSoS

Having Rast as one of the mutineers makes sense actually, as he’s not really important at all later in the books. Using a character we’re already slightly familiar with is a good way to go.

    Michel,

As for Biter and Rorge; The actor playing Biter tweeted from the same location they were filming back in July, so this strongly hints that he is returning. I e-mailed Rorge’s agent, but he was not allowed to say anything, which makes me believe he is back as well. If he was not to come back then I assume the agent could have just told me so.

So glad that Ian McElhinney is returning to the roll, I loved his presence and voice in the first season, will be great to see him on screen again.

    Michel,

I asked the actor who plays Biter a month or so back (on Twitter) if he was going to be coming back and he didn’t know yet. So I get the feeling we may not see them again soon. He’s a local Belfast actor and the studios are used for multiple productions, and open for public tours after a renovation, so it’s not a confirmation he’s in S3.
I suspect we won’t see Yara this season, based on her lack of presence in ASoS, but anything’s possible.

    Carne,

Even better that’s it’s a character to was a bit of an asshole in season 1. It’ll help sell the mutiny at Crasters, rather than having a bunch of un-named watchmen do it.

I really hope Aemon and Thorne come back with the original actors; they were both really great in their roles. It’d suck if D&D were forced to recast them.

Interesting that Pyp will be returning. I figured they would hold off on Jon’s return to Castle Black until Season 4 and end his arc at Queenscrown, moving Ygritte’s death up to that point. Of course they may be reworking how all that goes down. And David Bradley will surely be back.

    Carne,
It’s hard to say with United Agents. They list some actor credits as simply “Game of Thrones” regardless of what season they’re in, and some listings, like Kit Harington’s, specifically say “Game of Thrones S1 & S2.” I think they just don’t have a consistent system.

OMG! If Kate is back and Lino too..WTF..Eyrie in this Season ???? Any suggestions ?? Even if the PW is this season, it would be at least in 3×09 or 3×10, so Petyr and Sansa doesn’t have time to arrive at the Eyre

It seems SO early to be having Lysa back. I’m wondering if they are creating a new scene perhaps to actually show Lysa and Petyr getting married instead of people just hearing about it later.

I think the speculation here about Lysa is on target. Because Littlefinger is offscreen in the first half of the book, and because last season shows D&D love adding scenes for him, they’ll probably show him journeying to the Eyrie and proposing to Lysa. Maybe it will be a public “for show” scene like Joff and Marg’s proposal, to postpone the reveal of their schemes until later.

A wedding makes a lot of sense (the season can be subtitled Four Weddings and a Funeral). Plus I think they could show Lysa ignoring Ravens from Robb and Catelyn. Maybe mention a few lords in the Vale to get names in the viewer’s mind for Season 4 too..

Is it just me or does it seem like if every gleened bit of information is right that D&D are putting a lot fo material into Season 3?

It does look like there may be a lot going into Season 3, but let’s not forget that while ASoS is longer than either of the first two books, it’s not twice as long, and they’re not going to significantly ratchet down the show’s pace. So you can expect that Seasons 3 and 4 won’t *just* be the third book. That might mean (and certainly will to some extent) that they’re adding in some material to fill in the gaps, but I also think it’s quite likely we’ll get some AFfC material in Season 4. Long story short, judging by the pace of storytelling so far, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make serious headway through ASoS by the time Season 3 is done.

I think Kate Dickie is too noble appearing to portray Lysa the witch Arryn. In S1 she
did add that neurotic air permeating Lysa’s character but that too seemed more
shrewd than cray cray and Lysa is cray cray x 100. Just as the weak attempts to
Cersei a pity poor me performance complete with tears I hope the same isn’t
applied for Lysa. It’s a bit like putting on too much makeup where it makes for worse.
Catelyn’s storyline is possibly wrecked but if it’s possible to tweak for a positive fix
there is where the effort needs be.

WARNING: can’t figure out how to add spoiler tags on my phone.

I wonder if they will show Balon’s death. If they do, I think it would make more sense to possibly imply that he was murdered. It’s a common theory from the books, and it might make his death and Joff’s seem like less of a coincedence. I think they could do the same with the PW: make it clear that the gem from Sansas net is poisoning him.

    WildSeed,

I really really have to disagree. I think Lysa’s cray crayness was conveyed very well when Tyrion and Cat walked in and she was breast-feeding an eight year old. Her acting over the top wacky would’ve been overkill. Lysa does run the Eyrie, and she has covered her plotting with LF well up to a point, so she does have some cunning.

    Watson,

That’s true, but they still could add in some Bran scenes to make up for Bran content from Clash that was left out due to pushing back the Reeds. Also some Riverlands material that was left out of Season 2 if I recall correctly…

    Arbot,

    WildSeed,

Yep I’ve read most I think.

I guess I always assumed D&D were handcuffed and forced to go at the fast pace to fit each book into a 10-episode season and I hoped that now they would slow things down a bit. From the sounds of things they will be putting just about the same amount of material from from the books into Season 3 as other seasons.

I don’t think they will be filming much if anything past Season 3 though. D&D are on record saying that they don’t have time to adapt scripts, finish the pre-production, film and do post-production for more than 10 episodes a year. Even with actors possibly being unavailable in the future I’m not sure they would film ahead….. I guess anything is possible though.

That’s true, not a rational thing to do with royal breastfeeding for the guards to view.
When I watched that spectacle I felt that it was one of the truest moments from ASOIAF.
Lysa is indeed cray cray but she does exhibit some cunning and shrewdness as a
character or a major plot would not have taken place. It is perhaps wrong to condense
her to a simpleton but she does reek of madness.

It is a large undertaking when you digest all those factors. I knew of a condensed
streamlined adaptation but was ignorant about the yearly filming protocol. I thought
the 10 episodes pertained to the given season not how much can actually be filmed
saved/ rationed out later. Even if I try to comprehend and second guess I haven’t a
clue really. I have such high hopes to get a visual of ASOIAF and a fascination
for the creative wisdom it takes to artfully streamline a mammoth of a story. We
shall see or continue to speculate with the tasty morsels dropped here and Westeros.
I’ll also say that I hold an agenda as well to see certain characters get their due on

My theory why Pyp and Lysa appear in season 3:

Pyp will show what happens to the Nights watch why Jon and Mormont are gone, maybe even introduce new wall members that will join Jon once he escapes the Wildlings (Please let Donal Noye be there!

Lysa might appear to see littlefinger teleport there and set things in motion that will fit in Sansa’s storyline.

    Omar Brown,

I’ve been wondering if we will get a non-POV scene of the Wall while Jon and the NW are north of the Wall too. Maybe some of the ravens Sam releases during the Battle at the Fist returning to Castle Black and we get to see how the NW still at Castle Black like Pyp (and I agree Donal Noye needs to be there!) take the news and/or ravens with no notes attached..

  48. Andrew
    Posted August 15, 2012 at 10:43 pm | Permalink

Perhaps the confirmation of Lysa means that we will get the Purple Wedding, and the season will end with Sansa’s arrival at the Vale? Seems a bit rushed but anything is a possibility. Petyr getting his own scenes to plot with her seems a deal more likely and time-line concious, though.

  49. Watson
    Posted August 15, 2012 at 10:45 pm | Permalink

Does anyone know the state of the Castle Black set? My understanding is that the Winterfell set – and presumably therefore any other outdoor set – needed to be largely rebuilt for season 2. I wouldn’t think they would bother doing this unless they plan to something major there.

PS It was reported a year ago the the Eyrie set had been standing unused in Paint Hall since season 1 as it was too complicated to disassemble.

    Omar Brown,

Pyp, Grenn and Samwell are a bit of comic relief at the Wall but I hope it’s possible
to portray them as ASOIAF has. Littlefinger , the teleport is a chameleon for certain
but GoT gives him wings too. LF may be useful in the streamlined version but I
hope it ‘s not at the expense of eliminating another character or a need for further
explanation later. Funny I had a conditional respect for him in the books, on GoT
he is an annoyance ( at least for now ).

I’m sure Lysa‘s just showing up for a short chat, or some off-page wooing, to remind us she’s still around – I can’t imagine her main story’s being moved up, it’s too tied into other surely-season-4 events.

  60. Pastor_of_Muppets

Apologize for the spoilers; I’m on my phone and I’m having problems marking spoilers correctly, so I’ll try to be vague.

That said, I don’t think we’ll be seeing the P.W. for a number of reasons. It’s more likely that we’ll be seeing Lysa again to remind the audience of who she is, and to keep Littlefinger active in the story line (new scenes between the two, possibly). That, and there’s sure to be delayed Tully material occurring early in the season.

Which is the same for the late introductions of the Reed siblings and Ramsay. There will be plenty of “new material” taking place early in the season, actually.

I’d go further into it, but I don’t think D&D will be foolish enough to rush through what is almost undisputedly the best book in the series. It also doesn’t make sense for them to forego the natural conclusion of ASoS (and the natural beginning of AFfC) that G.R.R.M. wrote. They were written that way for good reason.

It might seem like a bad idea for a certain event not to get any “pay back” in the season, but as Dany and Jon have their absolute best material coming up, victories for the two of them can go a long way to reducing the audiences’ anger. That leaves season four, as a thematic whole, to “pay back” what happened. Plus, why waste such a great character as the Red Viper by minimizing his role? My guess is that D&D will be looking to maximize that role, so having the P.W. this season makes even less sense.

I’d get further into it, but don’t want to spoil it for anybody.

Showing the Vale in advance in season 3 was pretty obvious since a few weeks ; we had a few clues :
    1) the enigmatic casting of Charlotte Hope as “Myranda”, later confirmed (by EW if I remember correctly ?) as the actual Myranda Royce from the books, a character who only appears in the fourth book, and, interestingly for this topic, IN THE VALE.
    2) producers seem to love Littlefinger’s character and his portratal by Aidan Gillen. They already have expanded his screentime his season 2, in comparison to aCoK, “filling the gaps”, showing his off-narrative deeds, for example the marriage arrangement between Joffrey and Margaery in Harrenhal with Tywin, or slightly modifying the chronology in order to meet Catelyn at Stom-Bitter’s End-Bridge. Since he’d got even fewer screentime in a season 3 strictly based on the first half of aSoS -he went to THE VALE in the first quarter of the book to arrange his own marriage to Lysa and he came back in King’s Landing just after Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding (I don’t think I need spoiler tags here, given it’s been annouced in ep.20), so he’s roughly off POV narrative the whole season-, showrunners have to eventually show him where is : in THE VALE. So the come back of Lysa and Robin (plus Myranda Royce), the main characters he’s be supposed to interact with, isn’t really a surprise.
    3) showing a location (namely The Eyrie) three years after viewers (especially non-book-readers ; and by that, I don’t call them stupids) had first seen it, before never seing it again, don’t seem the most clever move.
    4) I will end with and technical argument : The Eyrie is a huge set, wonderfully crafted, it needs maintenance, like every set, and maybe a little more. Not using if for two entire seasons can be uselessly costly…

Pastor of Muppets, agreed. It would be the ideal way to do things. Jon/Dany action would more than make up for the bad stuff that goes down in S3. I was also thinking some special interaction between two brothers who meet under interesting circumstances toward the end of aSoS P1 that could be extended and also possibly be used as some form of consoling for RW.

    Whoa, D&D, whoa!

From the way one is reading the tea leaves, you seem to be rushing into the classic irresistible force/immovable object conundrum, and most certainly Mr. Martin is an immovable object. To shift the metaphor, you are like greedy boys gobbling up your sweets before your chief confectioner even has his pots boiling for the next batch. While all those weddings would make for a delicious S3, at this rate when you come to the end of DwD, Mr. Martin may be finishing his first rough draft of WoW. One hopes you are good at stalling.

    Currer Bell,

This is the reason why GRRM has already told D&D what happens after A Dance with Dragons – they know full well there’s a good chance they’ll overtake the books. They’ve probably only got 3-4 more seasons worth of material published in book form to date, and it’ll take GRRM longer than that to write Winds and Dream!

Yes he’s my favourite character too and although we knew his return was nailed on, it’s fantastic to have it confirmed.

I don’t see Belwas being included. Someone (can’t remember who, sorry) postulated that Varys’s plan for Ros may be to relay Dany’s whereabouts to Barristan, and accompany him to her. It’s bonkers, but I could see it happening. There needs to be a clear rationale why Barristan suddenly turns up – showing Varys as the driver behind this (rather than the probably forgotten Illyrio who I don’t believe has been confirmed for season 3?) would make sense.

Ser Barristen was sorely missed in season 2, sure he wasn’t suppose to appear until Dany’s last chapter but frankly he should have been introduced earlier.

I don’t understand why The Great John has been excluded, IMO he stole alot of Rob’s scenes in season 1 and I do recall him making be chuckle in ASOS.

I don’t mind Lysa returning earlier than usual and I’ll be interested to see how they use her character this season.

Hope Ser Allister is in, I found it quite strange that his scene with Tyrion was not included in season 2, being replaced by a letter from the Night’s Watch when in season 1 Jeor Mormont clearly states that he’s sent Ser Allister to Kings Landing with the severed wight’s hand.

For a moment I thought the PW would happen this season with Lysa being confirmed in S3, but you guys are probably right and it’s just to “reintroduce” the Eyrie back in the map for the casual viewers. They can probably do a short update with the political situation Lysa is in (with a bunch of redneck suitors harassing her for marriage) while showing her Sexning (lol couldn’t come up with anything else for sexting) with LF about her troubles. This way viewers will still be fresh about that area of Westeros when her big arc happens next season.

So in light of all the NW people coming back, are we going to get the Blackwater at the wall this season as the “big battle” and have the “RW” as the hope crusher?

I’m hoping like hell that they visually show Ser Barristan’s full arc in s3. I’ve said this before, viewers need to understand the KG were the original Seal Team Six before being reduced as “glorified bodyguards” as Tywin put it. To show him going all Jack Bauer back into the Castle and escaping like a pimp to Illyrio with a non visual cameo “I’ll send you to her with my best fighter” then introduce the Fat pimp in S4 would be AWESOME!

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding you but are you suggesting that ALL of Brienne’s chapters from AFFC can be cut?

That’s somewhat preposterous. Certianly they won’t have time to adapt every detail of her picaresque journey with Podrick Payne, Meribald, Hyle Hunt, Dick Crabb et al. However, we do know that the producers of the show like to wax poetic about the effects of the “game of the thrones” on the smallfolk and other innocent victims. And that is the entire crux of Brienne’s journey through the ravaged countryside. Also, we get to see the Hound who has been reborn as a religious gravedigger. I hardly think they will omit ALL of that content. Plus Gwendoline Christie is just too wonderful to cut for an entire season.

I don’t think it would be impossible to pull off. Bears are actually fairly easy to train, for large super-predators, that is, and plenty of animal trainers work in Hollywood, so I’m sure they could arrange something. It would be a mistake to cut that scene out, IMO, and an even bigger mistake to use CGI. But I’m not one to complain. D&D will do what they think is best, and I’ll be happy to watch whatever they come up with. Still would be cool to see, though.

I would LOVE Balon’s death to be onscreen! Especially if they did a quick cut to the guy throwing him off the bridge, and it looked like the dude that Jaqen H’gar morphed into. How great would that be?

Some of my friends who have not read the books were confused by the new actor who played The Mountain. I am still partial to Conan Stevens’s Mountain. One’s last posting expressed concern at the breakneck speed with which D&D seem to be plowing through Mr. Martin’s published material. One then sought repose for the night, but, alas, that was not to be. Sleep proved elusive and when obtained brought only disturbing dreams. One awoke unrefreshed but with the certainty of why the unseemly haste. Without Mr. Martin’s published canon to rein them in, D&D plan to devote the second half of S6 to extensive readings by the author herself from her collected works including A Political History of the Three Cities: Astapor, Yunkai, and Meereen, Volumes I and II and especially her five volume magnum opus A Candid Memoir: Spying and Whoring in Kings Landing during the War of Ascension by Her Royal Highness Ros of the House of Baelish, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protectoress of the Realm.

Really bad news that Kate Dickie is coming back in Season 3 instead of Season 4. It’s bad news because it should mean that Sansa will get to the Eyrie in Season 3, which can’t happen until after Joffrey’s death (which if happens anytime before the last episode will be too soon, imo.)

Having two seasons to cover Storm of Swords, and probably a bit of FfC and DwD, they have the opportunity to let the show breathe, rather than having it rushed, like it happened in Season 2.

Besides, to have Joffrey die in the last scenes of the season, and see Sansa making a run for it just after, not only would it be an awesome way to end the season but it would get the speculation of who killed Joffrey going for the next show-less months.

Angels and ministers of grace defend us!

One’s last posting expressed concern at the breakneck speed with which D&D seem to beplowing through Mr. Martin’s published material. One then sought repose for the night, but, alas, that was not to be.Sleep proved elusive and when obtained brought only disturbing dreams. One awoke unrefreshed but with the certainty of why the unseemly haste.Without Mr.

The perceived haste has been discussed in varying detail in this thread and previous.
Read through, especially the wished for episode outlines posted by Alan,et.al
Season 3 and possible #4 will have some explosive details and meaty subjects to
    digest. Happy reading.

Tyrion4Lyfe: should mean that Sansa will get to the Eyrie in Season 3, which can’t happen until after Joffrey’s death (which if happens anytime before the last episode will be too soon, imo.)

Re: Lady’s death and the Mountain dispatching his horse, let me draw a distinction between “violence toward animals” and “cruelty toward animals”

I definitely think there’s a growing taboo toward the latter. In TV shows and movies you might see someone shoot an animal or cut the animal’s throat (e.g., Lady or Drogo’s horse in Season 1) but these days you’re not going to see prolonged beatings, torture of animals, extended cockfighting/dogfighting/bear-baiting scenes, etc. I think viewers are too sensitive to see stuff like that, but that’s just my opinion.

    Watson:

If you go by page count, Clash is the same length as Storm through to the end of Joff’s wedding.

Page count is deceptive. A STORM OF SWORDS is 425,000 words long compared to AGoT’s 298,000 and ACoK’s 326,000. In terms of manuscript pages – the only format where all five books exist in the same font, size, spacing etc – ASoS is 1,530 pages to AGoT’s 1,088 and ACoK’s 1,200.

So it’s about 50% longer than AGoT, a bit less than that compared to ACoK.

    Royboy:
You people do know the WINDS OF WINTER book cover has been released right?? C’mon wic.net I know your slow but
Come on!!!! Google it! Has a horn on the cover.

That’s not the official cover art. It’s a mock-up someone’s made up and attached to the book entry. Not too bad, but with the book probably 4 years from release, there’s no way they’d be bothering with the cover art this early (they did for Book 5, but they thought it would be out much faster and they changed it anyway).

I think this season will be the season that may break the great track record of keeping to the story as closely as possible… In the books you remember people by their names, but in the series most people remember them by their face. This whole series just gets larger, more characters are introduced that change the playing field, and quite drastically at some points. If the man who played Frey doesn’t come back, or any of the other characters like the Greatjon, Maester Aemon or Alliser, those actors will miss out of lengthy memorable roles…

Still very excited to see Ser Barristan again and very dissapointed that there will be no Greatjon.

Yes, true. Remember there was a lot going on , in ASOIAF and GoT . We viewers
saw very little of lord Mormont except for the journey north and Craster’s keep.
I recall that see Allister Thorne’s parlay with the king or anyone in charge at KL
was derailed for a time. When he is given audience or makes that dreaded
return to the wall I’d wish he never existed all over again. The story needs a
    character like him so
we’ll be hearing from him sooner or later. Janos
Slynt needs a flunky and the audience needs someone else to hate.

Yes! I wasn’t going to mention that but it’s totally true. In R-rated entertainment you will see depictions of horrible rape and torture to grown men and women characters that we would never be allowed to see inflicted on, say, a dog. It’s odd that we’re wired that way. Also, we can’t watch prolonged suffering of small children. We saw babies get quickly stabbed off camera and heard the mother scream but we get watch adults being tortured in exquisite detail as in the Tickler scene and the Joffrey’s birthday present scene.

Dostoevsky once wrote something about this. He had a character who collected newspaper clippings about gut-churning cases of child abuse. The character said that while it’s difficult to read about horrible things happening to adults, all of us have committed great crimes and sins and deserve to be punished to a certain extent, whereas children are innocent, so their suffering is always so much worse for us to think about. I think that’s also why we hate seeing animals suffer more than we hate watching adult humans suffer. Interesting stuff to think about.

    Rygar,

Thanks man, but unfortunately trying to publish a Sci-Fi novel in SA is like telling Robert to stop drinking and whoring, time consuming and quite pointless.

My neighbor Zola ( who made a face when I mentioned I’m hooked on GoT ) was
over last week and may be stopping by when she returns from latest respite. Do you
mind if I also have her peak at it ? I was afraid to have her translate Afrikaans
language when it came to my nerdist preoccupations but she may like this. She
used to work for the Johannesburg Star and just today emailed a video of the
happenings with the Oil worker Strike in Ruttenberg ( ? ). Anyway, I’m psyched

You’re correct with the time reference for der Speigel version posted at WiC. I did
not clock the other but you’re probably correct there too. What played was about
the same and I really can’t remember if there was more talk of the promo for the
latter. The work is truly life like but I’m way too naive to believe anything other than
what I see on screen when the show is on. I can really appreciate the art and tech
science this is all about in retrospect . I’ve seen similar displays from WETA work-

Are you publishing in Afrikaans? If you already mentioned it, I didn’t catch it. I’m currently writing fantasy in Afrikaans. We’ll see if that works , since people are more critical of the fantasy genre (understandably). But also getting lots of inspiration from ser George and also from general literary discussion on these posts (:

I was also wondering why we didn’t see Alliser Thorne at KL. Maybe, if they show that in s3, it would be more ominous considering the WW have already attacked at the Fist. Also, it would be cool to see ser Alliser meet up somewhere on the why back with Janos Slynt or at Eastwatch even. Luckily they did clearly show Tyrion banishing him to the Wall.

Check the Dragon Video Thread… Siriano posted the three minute and 33 second
version and it entails more than version Bon linked here. It is indeed longer with

    Omar Brown,

Isn’t winteriscoming.net different from the one you listed ? No doubt a few sites may
be less attended to with the season on break. Ironic if true because the filming and
creative process is leaking information to be utilised all year. I’ve visited ” kissed by fire”
but the host rarely attends even during the season although I find her posts really spot
on. I’ve also perused ” westeros” for Wiki for ASOIAF factoids but keep a distance from
the forums. A newbie such as myself ( but wasn’t me ) apparently wandered in on a
discussion while I was searching for a particular thread and asked a ” dumb” question
and was literally cussed out by ALL. As I was only up to book 4 at the time and wanted
to review passages from book 3, I was intimidated by what had happened to that person
and decided from reading that exchange that it wasn’t the place for me . This is the
only site I contribute to. But you’re right, we need a forum here. Threads get easily
derailed ( I’ve contributed yes )and news pours in sometimes 2-3 at a time. It gets a
little crazy when one just wants to have a thorough exchange for serious discussion.
I’m fortunate that I’m mixing with fellow nerdist and long time fans of the series
admixed with folk involved in the industry.

Sorry, late to the party as I’m still recovering after a night of heavy feasting and I’m not fully-operational yet (btw, how come GRRM’s characters never get hangovers?!) so the Dwarf peasant bit still puzzles me, however if you put it in context then it’s pretty obvious. :)

Aegon, good luck with your writing, hope you’ll manage to publish it one day. I’ve become quite an avid Sci-Fi reader myself over the last couple of years, so I’d love to read it sometime.

On Topic: The inclusion of Eyrie characters doesn’t sound at all alarming to me, most likely we’ll see LF and Lysa planning their wedding – though I’m wondering if that wouldn’t also mean that Lysa will probably spill the beans much earlier than in the books – I hope not, as her last scene with Sansa in ASoS was insane! Or, as I’m pretty sure The Fingers will not feature as a location in the show, they could just have the wedding in S3 at the Eyrie, before he goes back to get Sansa.

    Aegon the Conqueror,

Reading your synopsis I was reminded a little of the Ender books, have you read them? Not suggesting you’ve copied or anything like that, just curious. Every author has their influences!

I have in the past reviewed work for other aspiring sci-fi authors (none have yet published- I may have been very harsh on them!), specifically from the science angle though I’m happy to do general literary review too. I’m a physicist.

Let me know if you’d like me to do so for you- some authors want the science to be completely plausible, or correct with a few plot-necessary exceptions. Some decide their universe has slightly different laws of physics but want it all to be consistent. Some couldn’t give a toss as long as it sounds cool. Your story, your choice!

Be warned that I won’t be able to do it for a month or two though. Deadlines are coming.

    Aegon the Conqueror:
    RE Sci-Fi novel
Here is the synopsis for any who might be interested

“My name is Gevan Vanderbijl, this is my story.”
Trained from birth to be the perfect super soldier Gevan Vanderbijl is unquestioningly loyal to humanity under the newly formed United Earth Presidency. However as war breaks out between two worlds Gevan will find his loyalty stretched to the limit as his enemy is not the alien monster he was once led to believe. The questions remain where did they come from? Who is behind it all? Who can be trusted? Who is behind the war? What is better, to live content in deceit, or to know the horrifying truth? Experience the life of history’s greatest freedom fighter as he evolves from patriotic soldier to the most wanted man in the galaxy. This is the story of Gevan Vanderbijl, this the story of the children of the Trojan Project.

I like Fantasy more then SiFi, but one thing I noticed “perfect super soldier”, I don’t know maybe it is irony or something, but if you are serious, not so good.
One of the things ASOIAF is so famous are the great characters, because they are not black or white and certainly not super perfect. People can connect better with not so perfect characters, they are a lot more sympathic.
Other then that the story sounds interesting. Wish you good luck with your novel.

  245. Aegon the Conqueror
    Posted August 17, 2012 at 8:36 am | Permalink

    Shinyteapot,

No I have not. Influences include GRRM, Tolkien, Star Wars specifically the clone wars, book of Revelation, etc.
Well the guy telling the story is not a scientist and does not pretend to understand the technology, just that it works. I try to keep the world as realistic as possible as it takes place in our universe in some 250 years from now. But I make no attempt to explain the science. Still it would be cool, let me know when you have time, thanks I appreciate it.

  246. Aegon the Conqueror
    Posted August 17, 2012 at 8:48 am | Permalink

    Abendstern,

That’s the thing, although physically he is a prodigy and trained to the very peak, he is far from perfect. He is an insecure 18year old with all the problems that comes with being a teenager. So yeah although he is the perfect soldier he is very far from perfect human. He’s got some shaky morals, doesnt deal well with personal problems and emotionally he becomes more and more unstable as the story continues. I’ll just post a quote from the book to help explain.

“The truth is we have no idea what is going to happen, how this will affect these children. But we have to ask, how will a child turn out knowing he has been raised for war? Will it produce the emotionally stunted horrors of the African child soldiers a couple hundred years ago? Will we raise a society of violent murderers? And what happens when they are discharged from the military? Will they be able to cope with civilian life? Will we be able to recondition them to fit in with society? Will they be accepted into society? What will an eighteen year old be like knowing the last five years of his life has been spent to make him the ultimate killing machine? How will parents react to having children who at the age of six are physically stronger than they are? How will that affect discipline? The truth is we just don’t know and we have to remember that although they are stronger and smarter, emotionally they are still children, with all the fears of a child…but if it’s a choice between this and extinction as a species…I say let’s make us some child super soldiers.” – Doctor Wehan Brehneman Behavioural Physiologist; interview done several days after the acceptance of the Trojan Act.

    WildSeed,

    darquemode,

Added scenes are: Robb camp, Red Waste (wide look), extended Harrenhall from ep. 17, Dragonstone, Gate of Qarth, dragons (ep. 20), shadowbaby birth, 4 scenes from Blackwater (Davos looking at fleet, Lannister ship passing by, look at Mud Gate and Red Keep, Tywin’s relief), Fist of the First Men (I never thought that they created itcompletely with a computer), Throne Room in the House of the Undying and White Walkers attack the Fist… It’s nothing new?

Hmmmm…….. I watched it and did not view those. Siriano posted a lengthy version
though. Perhaps there was something amiss w/ the site at that time. Alas, we do not
live in a perfect world . Since you didn’t create the video I wouldn’t hold you responsible
    so lighten up ser .

To all those saying aSoS is not that much longer than aCoK, let me just remind you that the aSoS is TWO books in every other region other than the US. I don’t know if the American version just has smaller text or there is actually less content but aSoS definitely has a lot more to cover than aCoK.

    Michel,

[SPOILER ALERT IF MY TAGGING DIDN'T WORK] I don’t know where I heard this but I’m fairly sure the Red Wedding happens in Episode 7(the episode GRRM writing). Therefore, if Joffrey bites it in episode 9/midway through episode 10, that gives Sansa plenty of time to reach the Eyrie
