My favorite line in the books made it to the show but it wasn’t used half as well (sorry GRRM, you wrote the episode but it lacked something for me).
Still, I love the line and the context in which it is used in. Tyrion’s “those are brave men, now let’s go kill them” gets my vote.
I predict that there is going to a lot of people voting for lines not on this poll

Um, where is Cersei’s line, “If the city falls, these fine women should be in for a bit of a rape.” Fantastic line, and my favorite scene from the entire season.

Yara’s line about “The Sea Bitch”.
I liked how they managed to get it in, but in kind of the reverse of the books…

The selection is horrid, none of these lines are the best. Whoever picked these obviously forgot about the Tyrion scene where he sends Janos Slynt to the wall, cause it is hilarious.
“I’m not questioning your honor, Lord Janos. I’m denying its very existence.”

Too many great lines to count. WiC has done a nice job but I wonder if there is room for a category of just comic lines.
The only miss I see is the line from Ser Rodrik: “Gods help you, Theon Greyjoy. Now you are truly lost.”
There are plenty of other greats. But that one ia devastating.

Voted for Varys. Though that was not my favorite. My favorite (also from Varys) is “Power is a curious thing…” etc. Gives me chills every time. The way he says it… the actor is perfect.
Cersei with “If the city falls, these fine women should be in for a bit of a rape.” is also great.
And so much more… it’s really difficult to pick. You should have given us more choices!

I love the knights of summer line but I really didn’t think it was done justice. Not Ms Fairley’s fault at all, there wasn’t much she could actually do with it in the given context. My favourite line of the season:
“HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN ME SIR? I AM THE WIDOW OF YOUR LIEGE LORD EDDARD STARK AND THE MOTHER OF YOUR KING!”
DraigQuote Reply
Of those, had to go with Tyrion, but a few honorable mentions:
“Is he a ham?” -Renly Baratheon
“Is that a woman?” -Jaime Lannister
“Come with me and take this city!” -Stannis Baratheon
“I’m not joking, a man can go kill himself.” -Arya Stark

I only see one poll with 5 lines. Where is the comedic line poll?
BrickleberryQuote Reply
These can’t really count, I realise, since they are not stand-alone lines, but, to my mind, they are the two most affecting ones spoken this season:
(“Some of those boys will never come back.”)
“Joffrey will. THE WORST ONES ALWAYS LIVE.”
(“What killed him?”)
“LOYALTY.”
LanaQuote Reply
Come with me and take this city! Too bad Stannis’ well thought but lengthy speech hasn’t made it in. :D
Voted for Varys’ which is also awesome.
PepiQuote Reply
“And whoever kills that fucking hornblower, will stand in bronze above the shores of Pyke!” – Theon Greyjoy. Perfectly delivered at the height of a scene that was full of emotion, a bit of gallows humor, and I thought true to Theon’s character at this point in the story. I loved Theon so much this season it’s not even funny. Seriously Jon who? Theon stole the show this year.
However, seeing as how this is not an option, I went with “Fuck the King”. It had a lot of impact and broke some barriers for next season. Earlier this year, Joff’s own mother was frightened of his power. Now his “dog”, basically the hired help and his main source of personal protection, was able to tell him off and walk away unscathed.

TopdeckerQuote Reply
Those are all great lines, a woman will have to ponder to decide between those choices. Of course there were too many to choose from and many of my favorites aren’t there. Since we’re all discussing those omitted that we loved as well, I have to mention mine. Particularly favored are those that show the evolution of a character’s thoughts in addition to the reflection of their current reality.
Bran: “Did you hate us the whole time?” (to Theon, showing Bran understands what’s going on and the reasons for the actions, much deeper thoughts than you would have expected for his age)
Sansa: “Will you be in the vanguard in the battle? I hear my brother Robb’s always in the vanguard with his men” (Pushing the envelope, knowing all she has left to fight with are her words, nobody can fault her for asking a stupid question since they all think she’s stupid anyway, she can goad him into getting killed)
Jaqen: “Why is this acceptable for you but not for me?” (paraphrasing, after Arya stated “I should have killed you, you’re one of them now”…don’t judge me as a traitor when you’re doing the same thing to survive)
Jaqen: “The gods are not to be mocked. Un-name me. Please. A girl has no honor.” (That whole encounter is priceless, Arya’s shrug after he says she has no honor is priceless, reflecting how she realizes honor has less value in the world after Ned’s beheading)
Jaqen: “Valar Morghulis” (he knows Arya will be curious to find out what it means someday, he could have told her what it meant but didn’t, leaving her another lesson)
Yoren: (Pure badassery) “Get up, you sons of whores, there’s men out there that want to f**k your corpses.”
Yoren: “I always hated crossbows. Take too long to load.”
The Hound: “They’re all killers, your father was a killer, your brother’s a killer, all knights are killers.” (Paraphrasing, trying to awaken Sansa to the reality of their world).
The Hound: “Take the little bird back to her cage.” (after the riot)
Tyrion: “Tell Lancel to tell the King I’m busy.” Later, “Then I’d be the Quarterman, it doesn’t have the same ring to it as Halfman.” (Tyrion trying to defuse the tension of the battle situation with his humor, which is not always understood by those around him.
Seconding:
Arya: “Anyone can be killed” (to Tywin, you see the evolution of Arya’s relationship with reality here, but she’s always pushing the envelope)
Arya: Loyalty (answer to “what killed your father” by Tywin)
So many greats, will probably go with Catelyn, love her and she gets only a few great lines between all the expository ones. That’s one of her best, and her face when she says it shows the depth of her pain.

Absolute crime that this wasn’t included. Why even bother having a category like this without having a nomination process? If you truly want this to be this website’s specific awards voted on by the fans of the site, let the fans nominate the nominees. Or else you might as well leave the fans out because they’re only able to pick what’s offered.

Went with Varys, but it was close.
More lines that easily deserved this recognition:
Tragic lines:
“Did you hate us the whole time?” – Bran, to Theon.
“Gods help you, Theon Greyjoy; now you are well and truly lost.” – Ser Rodrik, before his beheading.
“You’re not the man you’re pretending to be.”
“Maybe, but I’ve come to far to pretend to be anything else”
- Luwin and Theon
Jaime’s speech on vows in ep. 7 to Cat.
Badass lines:
“I always hated crossbows…take to long to reLOAD!” – Yoren, in his final act of heroism.
Almost everything said by Stannis in Blackwater.
“It must be strange, to be the disappointing child” – Tyrion to Cersei
Humorous lines:
“I like to keep me hands clean.” – Bronn to Tyrion.
“Where did you find this beast!?” – Jaime, to Catelyn, about Brienne.
And of course, Varys’ riddle on power in ep. 3.
Frost NocturneQuote Reply

Got to with The Hound on this one! To see the man who at times personifies fear, a walking, talking nightmare, be undone by the sight of wildfire…was disconcerting and fascinating at the same time!
While his line might not have been the most high minded or witty, the raw and brutally honest manner in which it was delivered, made it the winner in my mind! For a close second I would go with Varys and Cercei, and third Catlyn!

Varys: I’ve always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.

Hear Me RoarQuote Reply
Varys without a doubt.
GorreanQuote Reply
Agonizingly went for Tyrion, with the Hound nipping at his heels and Cat brining up the rear. The other two quotes did not have the same emotional resonance for me (though I love Varys and every word he says).
Cat’s quote is very sad and poetic, just like the moments she witnesses at Renly’s camp; also, every time I hear it, I get “Boys of Summer” by Don Henley as an earbug. (I even have a filk son version of it dedicated to Renly, must post it on my Tumblr.)
The Hound is pure Hound. Seeing how much I love the character, that quote should have been at the top. And yet I felt that in the narrative of the Blackwater episode Sandor’s growing panic was not conveyed very effectively. On one hand it’s understandable, because the episode was awesome and contained so many details that I could not expect everything to be explored fully. On the other hand, however, this falls into the larger issue of the “blandness” of this Hound, who, apart from that phrase, did not go completely bonkers as I expected. See the scene with Sansa, which I loved but which was not as scary as the book version.
So, Tyrion. I’m a bit worried that this will simply be filed under “Tyrion has all the best lines.” But I loved the speech that built up to that line, because of the acting. Dinklage has fully earned his top billing by turning into a true action hero, handsome, humorous, complex and conflicted. This might not be what GRRM had in mind for the Imp, but among all the changes it’s probably the most pleasant for me (despite it detracting from Cersei). Tyrion’s “St. Crispin’s day” speech was a compendium of how he has slowly grown into his role of Hand and now of protector of the city; you can see he’s talking to himself as well as to his followers, slowly turning his own fear into determination. The way that final appeal was delivered, it was more than a war cry, it was a challenge in the face of terror. As such, I could not but cheer.

Blackfish Blues,
Oh well struck ser. But I must add that I found it quite true to the books that Tyrion the action hero is still quite useless in a fight and there was no evidence of a stormtrooper effect when he went into battle. He was flipping close to getting his ass kicked before that guy saved him. Oh wait that was when Ser Mandon chopped his head in half never mind.

Elaine, sorry to hear that. We deliberated long and hard over these selections. It’s a very hard category to narrow down. There are many worthy contenders. I disagree that the selection is “dreadful” though. All five lines are quite good, even if they aren’t your personal favorites.
