This week’s category for the WiCnet Awards is a new one: best scene stealer. There are so many great small roles played by fantastic actors in this show, that we felt it would be a shame not to recognize them in some way. So here is a list of five “scene stealer” nominees, they may have had a limited amount of screen but they made a big impact. Vote for your favorite and discuss your choice in the comments!

Conleth Hill as Varys was included in our best supporting actor category. This category is really for those roles that only appear in a handful of scenes/episodes, yet manage to make an impact. Jerome Flynn as Bronn is borderline here, since he does get a good bit of screentime compared to the rest of these, but we decided to include him because he’s a huge fan favorite and we knew we’d have a mutiny on our hands if we didn’t.

Went with Jerome Flynn’s Bronn over Francis Magee’s Yoren. Yes, it’s partially because he gets so many more great lines, but his chemistry with Dinklage is fantastic and he’s made the TV Show Bronn much more enjoyable and interesting than Book Bronn.
As for Jaqen, while he was very good, I though Maisie generally ran away with those scenes, not Tom. It could be the cuteness factor, though.

One Thousand and One Nights with Jaqen H’ghar
Tom Wlaschiha = Jaqen H’ghar = the ultimate scene stealer. Mesmerizing, captivating and tantalizing ….. a Lorathi Assassin whose eyes alone could launch a thousand ships.
But we fan girls want what is ours. One scene they must give us – perhaps more, but no less, and we’ll be done. The Red God demands it, and so do we. We deserve to see Jaqen H’ghar bathing in the Turkish Baths of Braavos ….. with serving girls pouring water over his body and belly dancers performing for his pleasure – isolations, undulations, serpentine hips, snake arms and shimmies – all to the music of “Valar Morghulis” and “Tabla Toy” by Beats Antique.
They stole Jaqen’s Hot Tub scene at Harrenhal from us —– they have to give it back!
We are belly dancers, we are ready to dance, and we are on our way to Braavos to try and find our favorite Faceless Man. Braavos is said to look like Venice. Braavos is also said to have Turkish Baths located in many parts of the city. The figure of a man, in a hooded red robe, is often seen in the backstreets and alleyways near the Baths of Ragman’s Harbour – the darker, seedier and more dangerous side of town. That man is said to be Jaqen H’ghar.
p.s. To Mrs. H’ghar – we have a huge crush on your gorgeous husband! We had hoped that the “new” Faceless Man would be played by the same actor – wearing exotic eye makeup, long black hair with platinum streaks down one side, a golden tooth, etc. Nothing against the new actor – it’s just that we had already fallen in love with the original version. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the original Jaqen will reappear someday – hopefully, in the Turkish Baths of Braavos.

Had to go with Magee simply because the awesomeness of his character was so unexpected. His one-on-one scene with Arya was one of the best monologues in the season. A very plausible non-canon backstory and was delivered brilliantly.
Everyone else on this list was great too, although I’m not sure I would call Pree a scene stealer. No fault of the actor’s on that one though.

You know, we should name these awards, probably call them the “WiCies” or something else more clever. You guys and gals should make up a paper certificate or something to give to the winners. I say even a cheap trophy or something. And we also need to have some WiC specific categories, like Best Supporter of The Bottom (would be the person who interacts the most with the fans, say whoever interacts the most on Twitter or the boards here)
Then have a Daily Raven episode devoted to reading the categories and announcing the winners, and then get responses from the winners if they’ll participate, they can just send a youtube video with their response so there is no access issue, or just an email response if they want to do that. You should make these as prestigious as you can, and get the cast bragging about their WiCies to each other! I mean look at the Golden Globes, who the heck is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association? We’re more important than they are! LOL..

I was expecting Jaqen to be a slick character, but Yoren really came out of nowhere. Perhaps it’s unfair to view the show in light of the books, rather than letting it stand alone as its own product, but it’s pretty much an inevitability book-readers will have certain expectations going in.
And that’s just the thing. I had absolutely no expectations whatsoever for Yoren’s character. I didn’t really think about him one way or the other. I remembered him, and didn’t dislike his character, but he didn’t really stand out one way or the other, like a Jaqen, or a Pyatt Pree did. He walked, he talked, he died. And that was about it.
But, he really made his mark on the show, in what little time he had on screen. And that’s a credit to the actor. Francis McGee made an afterthought of a character 3 dimensional, and that’s not so easy to do.

But he gets so much screen time I don’t know that he counts as a scene stealer…and I love Joe Dempsie as Gendry but in my mind he’s too much of a main character (I recognize this may be my own bias). Bronn and Yoren were perfectly cast and completely believable and well-written. But the vote has to go to Pyat Pree who was strange and creepy and scary, above and beyond expectations.

The actor that played Jaqen was really good. So good in fact, I really hope D&D write him back in the TV series in future episodes when Arya’s storyline progresses. His body language, the way his facial expressions were, his voice and how he spoke really was amazing. The only one who didn’t make that list was Osha, because the show has lots of great supporting actresses. I am sorry to disappoint the Mrs., but Jaqen didn’t “steal” any scenes for me. I felt that he was owned by Arya in every scene except the last one. Bronn was great, but I wouldn’t say he stole anything away from Tyrion either as the both were great in their scenes together.
Thats why I picked Yoren once again. Loved the scene where he pulls the sword out on the guards leg. No one else mattered in that scene.
I must admit that Edd would have been my second choice if he was on this poll.

I’m going to pick Francis McGee. He stood out in season one with that scene involving him Joseph Mawle and Peter Dinklage, but this season he stole just about every scene that he was in. That one sequence where he tells Arya about the boy Wilhem and his dead brother was charged with emotion.

I would have picked Joe Dempsie, but he had that one scene with Arya where he figured out that she was girl and that was about it. You see him pop up again in Harrenhal as eye candy but he didn’t do too much afterwards.
Tom Whatever His Name Is was good as Jacqen, but like with Arya’s storyline this season, it lacked so kind of bite. I was hoping for a bit more from the story that he was in, so I guess its an issue of the material he was given. Though I think that alot of folks will vote for him because he’s estrogen bait. Nothing wrong with that, its just in terms of acting who stole the show for me was Yoren. A small role made into a three dimensional character. Jacqen didn’t do nothin’ but cement his badassery, nothing wrong with that either (see Bronn), but I guess my large compliant resides with the whole Harrenhal story in the first place.
To me, Arya’s story started out interesting with Goldcloaks and Gendry and Yoren’s death, then when it got to Harrenhal it got kinda silly. I know people love the Tywin and Arya scenes but they got somewhat repetitive after the first time. I dunno guess Im in a ranting mood today.

Also, if I may continue forth in my bitching, I would like to talk about something that’s been bugging the hell out of me since the casting for season 3 started. How exactly is Robert’s Rebellion going to makes its return into series? I mean in the first season they made the Rebellion in to an expository exercise, mentioning the Kingslayer, Ned’s father, Trident, and all that stuff every now and again during the season, but it was hardly mentioned in season 2.
Even more upsetting now characters like the Reeds and the Martells will play a crucial roles these upcoming season but how will their introduction be made? Will we see some exposition like we did in season 1?

I am here to avenge my family on behalf of an event that takes place offscreen. I will repeatedly refer to this event a least several times before my untimely death. Hopefully my repetitive and lengthy exposition will fill in non readers of Game of Thrones.
Viewers: What the fuck?!
You see, I am not some book purist who thinks that every detail of the novels ought to crammed into 10 hours of screen time, but I don’t think that the writers are wisely setting up the future characters to be introduced. I don’t need a Battle of Trident flashback, but a quick flashback at the Tower of Joy or even the murder of Targaryen king would be nice. Something…..I can only imagine that the exposition will get worse when a character like Jon Connington or Aegeon Targaryen is introduced. I don’t mean to come off as a snob or book purist, but I think just few flashbacks this season could certainly help. Devoting time to a character like Ros is something that infuriates me, as that time could be used to talk about something else.

When we are getting 10 hours per book, and LotR films got 3, I would expect things to be handled much as you do. 10 hours is a lot of time, and we’re still seeing insane amounts of material be ignored in the adaptation because of some aversion to flashbacks for some reason that doesn’t seem all that logical to me. I think we’d still be subjected to Ros even if this were to change, because as uninteresting as the character is she is there for more important people to monologue at, and until they can figure out a less clumsy way to fit those expository bits in there I think we will just have to be used to her.

And casual viewers will get frakked over but loyal non-reader viewers have picked up Dorne, Dornish Ale, the Martell words, Rhaegar, Lyanna, Maester Aemon, Tywin “butchering them”, “the Martells loathe us” add in “Arstan” moments and Robert’s rebellion is more than just hinted at.

I have read the books but for people that haven’t read them and want to keep all the excitement for the tv series these kind of spoilers are really horrible! Saying that you’ve been seriously disturbed by “a certain reddish feast” is like hinting at a beheading at the end of book 1 without telling it’s about Ned. And of course saying “Freylor Morghulis” is even worse! Non-readers reading your comments are not stupid you know, they will deduce that something bloody will happen during a feast in season 3. When the series reaches the marriage at the Twins they will be expecting something “cruel and tragic, so disturbing, so evil” and hence spoil a big part of the shock. SO PLEASE PUT SPOILER TAGS WITH POSTS LIKE THIS!!!

I never really got all the fuz about Tom Wlaschiha as Jaqen (in the books he was far more captivating in my mind’s eye) and although I love Jerome Flynn I think Bronn is out of place here since his part is too large in comparison to the others (with the history of season 1 added to his character development). Since Joe dempsie’s part wasn’t very memorable this year, that leaves Hanmore and Magee.
Yoren’s story arc this year was epic, and Magee did a great job with it. At first I thought I’d vote for him, but upon reflection I went for Hanmore, since Pyat Pree was a completely new small character that managed to make a huge impact. From the first time you saw Hanmore in make-up and costume, you just knew he would BE Pyat Pree, and his acting complemented the image perfectly.

Aside from Gendry being bastard born… he’s the son of a rebel king. We also still don’t know how Jon Snow fits in the the whole scheme of things, as far as I’m concerned he is very likely Rheagar’s bastard, not Ned’s. Prentending that Jon is Ned’s bastard protects both his sister’s reputation and Jon’s very existence. Can’t wait for the next book!!!!!!!!! I’m just going to be very angry with Mr.Martin if he decides to let Jon’s parentage remain a mystery, because really, predictability is not his strong suit! p.s. could the not have found a better actor to play Jon Snow, at least one that’s not so pouty with big confused eyes? UGH…

I had to go with Bronn, simply for the way Jerome Flynn plays the character. British viewres will remember Jerome playing Paddy Garvy in the nineties hit Brithish show Soldier, soldier. A very very different character to Bronn. And he came up with the classic line ‘there is no cure for been a c**t.

I’m surprised there really isn’t a lot of Julian Glover love here or in other forums because he is Pycelle to the T! What a wonderfully rotten to the core, corrupt old man he portrays. The way he convinces us with his frailty and doting air but he is a monster make no mistake. The scene in Valar Morghulis where he is gloating over Tyrion was perfection. General Fucking Veers for the win!

Yoren was awesome, a character who didn’t make that much of an impression on me when reading the books, but did in the show. Really will miss his character. Bronn was also great, but he was great in the books, and the show’s representation didn’t surprise me as much. Plus I think Bronn is more of a major character, I wouldn’t exactly call his a “small role”

Bronn’s casting is simply amazing. The chemistry between him and Peter is great and seems authentic. He brings both subtlety and brass to the role. So many of his scenes were very memorable. From pronouncing the maester’s name to “enhances really” scene to Hound scene(s) and even his expression changes after the arrow was loosed (great job of showing in character emotion changes for all those featured in that scene)
But Bronn is close to a major character due to screen time – I’d have gone Jaqen if Bronn wasn’t present and Conleth if he was on the list. I love his voice, delivery and mannerisms.
