Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Collector’s Edition coming in Nov
By Winter Is Coming on in Merchandise.

The companion book Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones released today, but now HBO has announced a limited-edition version, entitled Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Collector’s Edition, slated to release on November 13. Here is the official description:

This spectacular collector’s edition includes a lavishly illustrated book on the making of the show, scrolled maps, plus an artist’s portfolio featuring never-before-seen storyboards, all housed in a handsome gold-stamped case.

The book reveals how the best-selling fantasy series was translated into a series that has captivated millions of viewers. It includes hundreds of unpublished set photos, production and costume designs, plus family trees, a dissection of the Dothraki language, and histories of the realms. Interviews with actors and crew members, as well as a foreword by George R.R. Martin, make this an exclusive window into the show.

The storyboards portfolio shows how comic book artist Will Simpson singlehandedly storyboarded seasons one and two and features deleted scenes and alternate scenes. Storyboards are seldom made public, so this collection is as rare as it is fascinating.

Completing the package are maps of Westeros and Esos. Fans will recognize the maps from the HBO Go bonus material for Season 2. Printed on archival, acid-free paper, and ready for framing, these maps bring the world of Game of Thrones to life.

Product Features:
• A deluxe foil-stamped clamshell case
• Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: Hardcover, 192 pages, fully illustrated with padded case and foil stamping
• The Storyboards: hardcover, 192 pages, fully illustrated with emboss and ribbon marker
• Two 11 x 22 inch scrolled color maps printed on archival, acid-free paper

You can pre-order the Collector’s Edition on Amazon or at the HBO Shop, where if you are one of the first 200 to order you can receive an exclusive signed book plate.

Ok, seriously? That is such crap. Anyone who was interested in the book in the first place pre-ordered it months ago. Their money is already spent. Now HBO is going to pull a fast one and release this super extra-special version and expect everyone to shell out even more money? That really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We’re already subscribing to your channel, buying all your merchandise and collecting your blu-rays. At least be straight with us, don’t pull a bait and switch at the last minute.

Lol, sorry for the angry first comment, guys. Ooops.

I’m kind of pissed also! Mine shipped today, I pre-ordered it, but if I’d have known about this, I would have went with this.

Wow, you’re kidding me. I guess getting anything Game of Thrones-related will have to wait now if they’re going to pull this kind of crap on us.

Just pre-ordered mine! Bit pricy for a book, but eh, it’s close enough to christmas so it’s justified!

Well, birthdays and holidays are approaching, a woman could justify a purchase just this ONCE…..but no more GoT stuff, really, no more. Maybe.

Do you think they will eventually release the Storyboard book separately? I’ve already placed my order for Inside Game of Thrones, but would love to look at the storyboard artwork without shelling out $90.

I am really, really starting to loathe the word deluxe.

There is a possible solution to your dilemmas. Gift your vanilla books to the fellow Thronies in your life and purchase this collector’s edition for yourselves. Call the vanilla books early holiday presents. HBO may have lost some karma with this tricky Dick maneuver, but you may reap some for yourselves in the giving. :]

An excellent point. But let me earn a wee bit more disposable income first :-)

It is sad that they chose to bait and switch on the “Inside the Game of Thrones” book, but not exactly surprising. LOTR fans went through this on a routine basis!

I’m in the same boat as many of the others. My pre-ordered copy will arrive today, the money is already gone. Even though I would probably not have shelled out 83 pounds (it’s really a bit excessive for what is included imo..), it would have been nice to at least have had the choice. Might have made a smashing Christmas gift.

Agree with above statements! So annoyed!! Pre-ordered this months ago and it has been shipped this morning i think. This should have been released at the same time as the normal edition at least then we would have had a choice! i’m definatly not buying it again!!

I pre-ordered the original, back in July. It arrived yesterday from Amazon and wasn’t even shrink-wrapped–just loose in the box. It has a scuff on it, and I debated whether or not to annoy Amazon with it, but decided I couldn’t be bothered. It’s a lovely book with lots of photos, but lots to read, as well, and I’m looking forward to going through it, soon.

But, this collector’s edition crap is why we still haven’t bought the BDs…

Use the promo code “halloween” to get it for $120 instead of $150 !

It makes me angry when “collector’s edition” items are only announced after the release of the vanilla version. This effectively means that dedicated fans have to pay out more than casual fans to get the collector’s edition because they’d have to get it in addition to the vanilla version they already bought. Fans should be rewarded for pre-ordering early, not punished.

Well, if this is HBO’s new Game of Merch, I think we should send them a message and refrain from buying anything on its release date. This is a snub for a lot of hardcore fans but the last message any consumer should be sending is “yes, you got me hook line and sinker, so I guess I’ll just buy the nicer one too.”

I wouldn’t mind Extended Editions of the series itself, though. I’ll just refuse to buy the vanilla releases if such a thing were to happen.

You gotta be kidding me – this is sleazy beyond belief. We know damn well that this thing has been planned for months and purposefully hidden from the fans for fear they might ONLY buy one or the other, not both like many are going to now do (although none are happy about it).

So HBO hear this – I fortunately have not ordered the vanilla edition b/c I was waiting to put it on my birthday wish list. Now I’m not ordering EITHER because of your actions.

    Florentine,

don’t know, I looked it up and the amazon UK is more expensive even with free delivery, I use euros and if I buy it in the USA it costs 80 euros, if I buy it in the UK is 110, but the delivery is way faster in the UK.
If you want it fast and have the money then I’d use UK amazon, if you can wait then use the other one.
I don’t mind waiting, it would be like a Christmas present for myself.

I just made the math, and even with fastest delivery the amazon store is cheaper the amazon UK

Really pissed about thi! My copy came yestrrday – very nice book – but wont be pre-ordering anything else. Like someone above sed – why are the real fans being screwed like this? Anyone else would value fans who pre-order instead of putting together something more to squeeze money out of us.

Typical commercial thinking. I wish it would backfire on them in the longrun
