Have you heard? Arya got adopted into the BAMF Girls Club (a sure thing after winning those badass awards). I did not know about this webseries before, but here is the episode that attracted our attention:
A Game of Thrones Parody continues with another instalment, part 1 of the take on episode 10. Littlefinger reports:

That was one of the best parodies Seanzoz has made. So if you’re reading this, good ser, hat’s off to you. Can’t wait for the next and (sadly for us) last one. But where are my Lannister soldiers??? ;-)

It’s been too long for that parody! He should make great ones next season!

Mispronunciation of Tyrell aside, LOVE that. Daenerys really was pretty pathetic this season.

BAMF girls club wins. Although Arya should have actually killed someone.

Both vids pretty good. About the BAMFgirlsclub-thing: It’s still a bit weird to me that “other people” know about our characters and the whole asoiaf-story and use it in parodies, talk about it, whatever. Cool, though!

Here’s a cool article about the influence GoT has had on various comedy show writers:

Parody in re Greyjoys – so true, so true! One has often wondered why Robert didn’t impose a Carthaginian peace on the Iron Islands a la Twyin Lannister and Castamere. The core values of the Iron Islanders are irretrievably and proudly sociopathic and to paraphrase the wonderful quote the world hasn’t had much trouble with Carthage for 2,000 years.

It is so good to hear that opening guitar riff again. “Political correctness isn’t half as important as politics itself.” One of many great lines.
I liked the BAMF video too. All in all, this was a great Saturday post, thank you as always!

The whole BAMF series is amazing if you’re a fan of pop culture ladies — they mock every character equally, subtly and with love (except for Bella Swan, but come now).

Eleanor,
Mispronunciation of Tyrell? They pronounce it in two distinct ways on the show itself (tie-RELL and TEE-rul), and the parody video chooses one of those pronunciations. Why are we assuming that one is correct and the other isn’t?

I can’t wait till the GOT fans here start attacking the Emmys because GOT didn’t win any tonight. It seems not too long ago, we were praising them because GOT won big at the creative Emmy awards.

The main image on the New Yorker homepage right now is Game of Thrones-oriented. It’s the image accompanying the “Liveblogging the Emmys” feature.

ETA: Oopsie–the image is actually associated with a Thrones article/review called “The Aristocrats.” (http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/television/2012/05/07/120507crte_television_nussbaum) If it’s been mentioned here before, my apologies.

I’m a big GoT fan and I didn’t expect it to get either award. Although I was surprised by both winners, I have heard mixed reviews of Homeland and I think Giancarlo Esposito did a much better job than Aaron Paul for Best Supporting.
Cary StormQuote Reply
In the show Tyrell has been pronounced both as “tih-rell” and “tie-rell”
Tom O’ SevensQuote Reply
They really shouldn’t because season 2 wasn’t as strong as season 1.
I didn’t think Dinklage would win two years in a row but I didn’t expect him to lose out to Jessie, I expected Gus to win.
Homeland’s debut season was exceptional but I honestly felt both Mad Men and Breaking Bad were superior. I also feel Homeland missed the mark with not following through in the finale.
Al SwearengenQuote Reply
Eric the amazing,
I’m not gonna start complaining since I don’t watch the other shows, but allow me to find it a pity nonetheless, or is that wrong in your superior view?
Tar KidhoQuote Reply
Aaron Paul was really good, much better than Giancarlo Exposito (who speaks awful, awful spanish btw) and Homeland was as strong, if not better, than Breaking Bad, so it’s a well deserved victory imo )I think the finale was the only reasonable way to go btw)
I agree the second season of GoT wasn’t as strong as the first…there’s nothing to worry about though, Mad Men got 0 out of 17, as long as we keep getting nominated is allright
Pau SorianoQuote Reply
Really? Because all I heard from critics about Homeland is they can’t stop kissing its ass.
I would respond to your comment, but someone as superior as myself shouldn’t mingle with peasants… that was joke. You hate me now do you?
Season 2 isn’t as good as season 1? Should I expect a shitstorm? I’m new to this website, but I heard that GoT tend to be really defensive towards the show.
Anyway, I loved season 2 more than the first. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the show is better when they divert away from the books. Okay, I’m ready for an ass kicking… just not in the face, please.

How did Bella get into the BAMFs?
TomQuote Reply
I also think S2, even with its problems, was better overall than S1. After the creative Emmys, I didn’t expected it to win anything else, but I’m glad for the nominations. As long as the show’s acknowledged and the ratings stay up, that’s all that matters for me.

To be honest it almost seemed as if GoT doesn’t even exist at this Year’s Emmys. ABC made sure it was the Modern Family High Five.

The problem with season 2 is it’s ACOK and that book didn’t blow my socks off, both the book and the season just didn’t really engross or excite me like the first did. They were still great though just not exceptional.
I’ve always felt GOT should win best drama during season 3 or 4 as ASOS is by far the best book.
Al SwearengenQuote Reply
At the end of the day though these awards don’t really matter, I mean wasn’t it The Wire who went season after season being ignored ? and that’s probably the best show ever to grace our tv screens.
Al SwearengenQuote Reply
Al Swearengen,
I like parts of CoK but its not as put together as GoT. Again like GoT CoK /season 2 is kind of a continuing transitional moment in the story. It lays the stage for ASOS. And if they do it right I see Emmy Gold in the future.
Joshua TaylorQuote Reply
Joshua Taylor,
I don’t think the Emmy’s will ever reward a fantasy show. The voters are too snobby.
Tyrion PimpslapQuote Reply
I tend to agree. There are just enough nerds to nominate it, but not enough to put it over the top.
Cary StormQuote Reply
Joshua Taylor,
I tend to think Season 1 was Game of Thrones best shot at an Emmy win. It had all the hype in the world and that season was arguably the only traditional Point A to Point B seasonal arc of the saga. I think the expanding narrative could make each season more difficult to accomplish in a way that grabs nomination committees attention…..
There are certainly some incredible moments to come, but will D&D’s writing and HBO’s 10-episode season allow those stories to really connect on all levels like the books? I sure hope so, but I do have my doubts. I think Game of Thrones will remain one of the better shows on TV, but I think the best hope for the series to win Best Drama was Season 1.
That said, it sounds like a cliche, but it really is true….. Being nominated for the awards is the reward itself. Being nominated is a sign of respect and acknowledgement that your show or performance was incredible…

Tír Airgid,
You’re quite welcome! I just love that the author wrote such a thoughtful review of the series after failing to warm up initially, actually sitting the first season out after “skimm[ing]” two episodes (thank goodness she finally saw the light!). Too many critics seem to dig their heels in and decide that if they aren’t going to review/like a series from the get-go, that’s it, no further discussion. I’m so pleased the author decided to give “Thrones” another go–as she found out, Westeros gives us rather a lot to think about!
I also love that she referred to Melisandre as “ketchup-haired.” XD
IsabelleQuote Reply
Aaron Paul deserved it, and Peter would have deserved it and I imagine a number of other actors would have as well. Acting isn’t so cut and dry like that. Kudos to Paul, who has been excellent.
I haven’t seen Homeland, but critics loved it — though I heard the beginning of the season was much better than the end and that’s where I think critical love (based on screeners) has melded with the mixed reviews (people who watched it).
I have no problem with it winning, or Mad Men or Breaking Bad. I am well behind on Mad Men and I’m caught up on Breaking Bad, and to be honest, I enjoyed GoT much more this year than either, but both are fantastic.
I would not have argued if Dinklage and GoTs won, and I wouldn’t argue with each of these.
The bigger travesty is that Modern Family is not, and has not been, anywhere near the best comedy on TV. The Drama category is stacked; Modern Family is some odd kinda good but still sanitized for generic tv that makes it perfect for the Emmys but leaves things like Louie or Parks and Rec on the sidelines despite being (to my mind) clearly superior shows.
