Saturday’s GoT Laughs: Lightsabers cut like Valyrian Steel

You may remember the climactic Jaime vs. Ned duel got the lightsaber treatment a couple months back. Well, now the epic battle of the Clegane brothers has been “lightsaberafied”.

Last weekend, the 2012 college football season kicked off here in the States. A critical play in the Western Michigan-Illinois game provided one of the more unexpected Game of Thrones pop culture references…

Winter Is Coming: The play-by-play announcer for that game was Anish Shroff. He became a fan of the series after watching the show. His brother convinced him to read the books and he is up to A Feast for Crows now. Anish will be calling the Michigan State-Central Michigan game today at 3:30 PM ET on ESPNU. Will he be able to work another GoT reference into his coverage?

If that were a real lightsaber Ser Loras would’ve been dead at the first strike.

However it would explain how The Mountain was able to cut that horse’s head so easily.

“That one cuts like Valyrian steel.” That is strong. I also liked the clueless commentator, who was like “Is that sharp?” “It’s very sharp.” I’ve been a fan of Anish Shroff since he dominated ESPN’s “Dream Job,” only to get screwed because he was so much better than everyone else that he was judged by a much higher standard. But he worked hard and ended up at ESPN anyway. And I’m glad to see that he’s also a fan of Game of Thrones and is reading the books.

A woman observes that we have a new being in the world of Westeros, not the grumkin, but Claudiu the Grump-kin. Sorry man, couldn’t help myself. I am on my 3rd reading of the books now, it seems you notice different things on repeated readings, why not read the series again or read a new series of books while waiting for March? No need to get all GRUMPY. With the internet and numerous films and books available at your local library, there’s not need for a person to be bored anymore. So chill Mr. Grump-kin, time will go by quickly enough. It is known.

And if you prefer not to buy into our friendly atmosphere then maybe the site isn’t for you. We respect opinion on this site greatly, we just don’t care to be attacked for our opinions or to be told that those same opinions are idiotic in an angry first strike manner.

I hope you don’t leave as I would like to see your insights used for the forces of good instead of evil. :-)

If you don’t like what you’re seeing here, and has lost interest in the series, what the hell are you even doing here? I think that’s what Aegon tried to tell you.

It doesn’t make any sense. You are on a website about a specific TV show based on a specific series of books and you aren’t interested in it anymore? Can you really not think of anything else to do? Don’t you have any friends? Why don’t you go out with them or find some other source of entertainment without ruining everyone else’s enjoyment of this site?

So let me get this straight, I’m not allowed to tell you to stop complaining, but it’s perfectly allright for you to call me a self righteous arrogant prick? Your standars do not make sense. I do not have a problem with your opinions, only the way you deliver them. I find it quite amusing that you say this place is becoming westeros.org and yet you are the one who most represents this change in my mind. Most of the people are very friendly and open here, all accept you. Your negativity and prickly nature is quite off putting.
I think you are overly paranoid as you read insults in little jests like the one made my the very friendly Mr’s H’ghar and respond with cold and mean insults.
As for your so called courage, I have revealed my name several times on this site as well as given my facebook profile and email adress. Do not make the mistake to think I hide behind my pseudonym.
I hope you see this, but I will cry no tears if you never post on this site again, don’t think anyone will and that’s no one’s fault but your own.

A man does not realize that a woman was jesting in an attempt to lighten the mood? Apologies, as insult was not the intent. Just joking on the term “grumkin” which reminded a woman of the word “grumpy,” a slang term for “moody and surly” which is what many of us are while waiting for the next season. Please accept a woman’s apologies and realize that most of us are trying to have some fun here.

-The Detroit Lions are working on improving this year, the Lions are saying HEAR ME ROAR!

-The NY Giants have no help from mammoths this year, but Lord Commander Eli Manning has the team well in hand.

    Winter Is Coming,

“… the crowd is roaring like the Titan of Braavos

“After that hit, they’re going to need a time out to check the field for rubies.”

“…sacked him like Robert taking down Rhaegar.”

Multiple opportunities to have a double entendre between sacking a city and sacking a quarterback, ” XX looks like [city] after [relevant attacker] came through.”

“The offense is advancing like a Dothraki khalassar!”

“…XX is tossing off defenders like Joffrey’s Hound.”

“[The offense] didn’t get anywhere with that play; [the defense] was readier than Robb Stark in the Whispering Wood.”

“…XX is cutting through defenders like Syrio Forel.”

“Talk about a goal-line stance.Inside the 15, this defence is tougher than The Wall.”

    A woman loves these!

Are these fans of the books/show trying to be funny? Or are they trolling? Not good for the books or the show!

I’m assuming it was fans, (or else, why bother?) but I thought it just summed up a lot of readers’ attitudes that I’ve been hearing about lately. I agree with it on some levels, but certainly not others. To be honest, I likely wouldn’t have shared it, except for the “Dorne in bullshit!” line, which was well-delivered and rang so true that it literally had me laughing out loud. As YvyB said, it’s really the picture that is more likely to do the cheering, as opposed to the video.

I am Rangers fan and we have a lot of Hype to live up to. A lockout will be the demise of the NHL.

    Joshua Taylor:
    Rygar,

Amen, as a proud Ottawan I am of course a Senators fan, I hope we have actually have a season! The last big strike I remember was when the big baseball strike. Even with all that awesomeness with two World Series under their belt The Blue Jays never recovered from that. I don’t want the same to happen to the Sens!
