Game of Thrones writer and executive producer David Benioff appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson a couple nights ago. He was there to talk about his novel, City of Thieves, but of course they mixed in some Thrones as well. Check out the video below, Benioff comes on at the 27:15 mark.
Winter Is Coming: A funny and engaging interview! It’s pretty cool any time your showrunner ends up on a late night talk show. He must have flown into LA from Morocco specifically for this appearance. Oh, and if you haven’t yet, be sure to check out City of Thieves. I agree with Craig, it is a fantastic book.

OMG! Susan Sarandan as …. hmm. What’s a good S4 role for her?
Cary StormQuote Reply
Cary Storm,
Susan Sarandon as anything.
Joshua TaylorQuote Reply
Ellaria Sand, possibly? … Though she might be a little old for the role.

I swear Susan Sarandon gets hotter with age she’s like a fine wine.
Al SwearengenQuote Reply
She could play oh god what’s the name of that lady who claimed Brandon Stark was her lover ?
Al SwearengenQuote Reply
Lady Dustin is probably only remaining role for her or Green Grace, but for this role she is to young… But absolutely no chance to hire her for the series…
bonQuote Reply
Al Swearengen,
Lady Barbrey Dustin. But in my mind’s eye Gillian Anderson is playing that role.
Sarandon could be the Green Grace or the lady of Volantis…Septa Lemore?
Joshua TaylorQuote Reply
Joshua Taylor,
Thank you kind sir. I would love to see Gillian Anderson in GOT.
Sarandon in a tv show isn’t that crazy an idea as she did appear in Rescue Me.

Maggie the Frog, fools

Joshua Taylor,
Gillian as Miss Havisham was great. I can totally see it.

Al Swearengen,
Not to mention she played Wensicia Corrino in the Children of Dune mini-series.
I’ve wanted GA on this show since the beginning. She was my pick for Catelyn Stark. I was hoping she would get Selyse Baratheon, but Lady Dustin would be perfect. I believe Dustin will be an important figure in the books to come, of all the Northern Houses, the Dustins have been mentioned several times in season 2. Coincidence? We shall see. But Anderson with Alfie Allen in that particular scene would be epic. Also she’s a Bleak House alumni like Dance and has been cast several times by Nina Gold. All in all though, I hope her new series the Fall is good she deserves to be in the spotlight. As much as I like David Duchovny, who I think plays himself very well and has his own kind of charisma, he’s the one who has all the connections. Yet Anderson was the beating heart of the X Files and the show would have gone nowhere without her. Not to put down DD’s work (Especially in the first five seasons) but even at its worst, she made the later seasons of the X Files better. I think it’s why I like season 8 because she was the focal point.

You know, I am inclined to agree with this.

I like how this was supposed to be a Benioff discussion but because the Youtube image clearly features a fetching Susan Sarandon, the intent purpose of this post has quickly derailed!
Boys will be boys.
Sarandon does age like fine wine, but her early vintage was good too…Rocky Horror, Atlantic City, Pretty Baby anyone? Or her daughter Eva Amurri who- segue from my previous post-who was on Californication.

Very little GOT stuff, but the book sounds good. Susan is still sexy as ever. I can totally see her doing a Maggie the Frog haha.

I’ve been doing my reread of ASOS and have been trying to get an idea of how much of the book will be included in Season three. My rough outline looks like this:
-All of the first 737 pages (paperback), ending with Davos’s chapter after the Red Wedding.
-Bran’s final chapter in the book (19 pages), so that he and Sam can have a full plot arc.
-A few pages of Jaime’s and Arya’s later chapters showing them react to the Wedding (4 pages).
That’s 760 pages of ASOS, leaving just 368 left for season 4. They’ll probably get decently far into Feast and Dance then.
What do you guys think?

LOL, the post was a bit interesting, but watched the Sarandon and Benioff interviews.
Ferguson does demonstrate equal doses of wit and thoughtfulness, I’ve never
watched the show before this. I did learn something, Benioff has an interesting
perspective on Russian history, and he wrote the screenplay to ” Troy “.
I fell in love with Susan Sarandon , watching ” White Castles “. The other films you mentioned were great also. I hope I age as fine as she does.

2) I didn’t remember her with Harold and Kumar?

WildSeed,
By the way have you heard of this theory(s)? 1. Varys is actually a woman. 2. Varys is Lyanna Stark.
Thoughts?

I highly recommend City of Thieves! Before I even read the ASOIAF books I had read David’s books, and it was seeing him in the credits for the show that got me interested in the first place, that is how good his book is!

Joshua Taylor,
1. seems unlikely, and 2 is impossible. Varys was at King’s Landing before the rebellion.

“White Palace ” was the film’s name, sorry . I was made aware, just now, that
White Castles is some kind of hamburger ( popular in the States ), I’ve never had
one. I am not a fan of hamburgers . I suppose the people you named are in the
movie, of which I’ve not seen.

I have always imagined Lady Dustin a little like an older Sean Young.
Just sayin’.
I also imagined Stannis like Sean Connery.
And Mel still looks like a redhead “dragon lady” in my head.
My imagination just makes the weirdest castings.

David B seemed really honest in there. The regular guy with good taste. Im curious to read A City of Thiefs. I also think Eric Bana was good in Troy though the movie was tacky.

A woman saw the interview, and quite enjoyed it, perhaps will get the book after reading a few good reviews here. How about Susan Sarandon for Septa Lemore (isn’t that the Septa on the boat with Young Griff?)???

On a side note, if anyone is interested in a non-fictional account of Russian misery, check out Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin by Timothy D Snyder. It’s pretty insane. Hard to even imagine.

Susan Sarandon might be too old, but how about that fine lady of the night that a brother meets on that high northern structure?

I never realized David wrote the script for Troy. Awesome! Loved Eric Bana in that film too. Unfortunately my perspective was clouded then by Orly’s presence. I still love him as Legolas, but I realized much later there are tons better young actors out there.
mags giantsbabeQuote Reply
He’s been through it. Granted, he was the screenwriter as well as the novelist for The 25th Hour, but I’m sure he made some choices he wished he didn’t have to and I guarantee Spike Lee did some things that deviate from the book.

The name of the film in question was “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle”. The film that Susan Sarandon was NOT in.

Alan,
Indeed sir. He’s doing the best he can given the politics of the ‘grinding machine’. Nice of him to adapt the series at all. Otherwise it would be just us nerds. For me they capture the essence of Martin’s work and that is all that is needed for an adaptation in my eyes.

Anderson was 39 when they were casting Catelyn Stark. Jennifer Ehle was a year older I believe when she was cast for the pilot. This is Anderson today at 44…
