Huh. In the Julian Glover interview he mentions a scene in “episode 3 of series 4.” Are they filming seasons 3 & 4 back to back (first I heard of that) or is it more than likely he misspoke?

As someone old enough to remember Dance as a young cavalier in The Jewell in the Crown, I applaud an actor who invested in theatrical training early in his career and has aged gracefully as a result (cough Tom Cruise/Jack Reacher cough).

In season 1, Tywin demonstrated an animal flaying scene with Jaime, that was
switched from ASOIAF Randyll Tarley’s scene with his son, Samwell, it was
brilliant and no complaint. It was was a commonly done act, but Tywin /Charles
owned that scene with finesse. I knew then, that Benioff and Weiss chose wisely.
Charles Dance does bring a bit of elegance, similarly Ian Glen, to their character
portrayals. My only disappointment is that Dance never read the ASOIAF books,
not even a ” Cliff Note ” or synopsis. Obviously it ‘s not a requirement for source
material, he’s breathed life into lord Lannister with great elocution and style.

LOL, she would be quite unguarded and in for a shock :D, poor dear.
At least the street reporter isn’t one that has a sit down interview with the actor,
where their supposed to ask relevant questions from the source material. Many
have made fools of themselves as they never reviewed or read the material, only
going on sound bites or biased review articles. When that happens, it’s not funny,
just stupid and recorded for posterity. Happens a lot , really.
Charles Dance may drop a vague spoiler or two, but he guards his response with
the details hidden. Sometimes it creates a well received anxiety to stay tuned to
watch GoT. When I read the chapter in the book, I was shocked, had to re-read
before moving on to the next chapter.

I’m assuming that Glover is referring to the added scene in the finale of Season 1 with Ros when Pycelle is shown to be putting on more of an act as the doddering old man. This characterization is not part of the novels and it’s interesting to note that Glover himself made the suggestion that he wanted Pycelle to be a little more than just the old, political maester.
I’m wondering if this threadline (where Pycelle is shown to be much more aware and active in the political machinations around him) is going to be continued in Season 3 and if his favourite scene with Tywin is referencing any of this.

I understand quite well , m’lady. The dialogue here transitions at times and largely
due to lack of an outlet for it , but the congeniality remains constant among the
majority. Those that harass ( shit disturbers ), soon exhaust their effort and
disappear, or told to leave by “Winter is Coming”.
Sadly, the ” True Blood ” franchise is off the radar for me as well, I quit watching
last year. I do miss the weekly reviews at our old haunt tho… anyway, on to book 13.
I never saw the film, Jewel in the Crown, with Charles Dance, I’ll look it up.
I will just ignore Kit Harrington’s latest, Silent Shrill.
I’m waiting for someone to write a screenplay about the ” Dos Equis ” man in
the commercials, Steve Carell for the lead actor :D

Charles Dance was great in Strike Back this year too. The show really grew on me last year and though it may not have been quite as a good a season this time around, Dance’s presence made up for it.

Charles Dance is the best. Read several posts which said that the stag he was skinning (in “You Win or You Die”) was an actual deer carcass (see below), and that it was starting to smell and there were flies buzzing around it, and …… eeuuw. It looked like Jaime/NCW was about to lose his lunch a couple of times during that scene, but Tywin/Charles just kept right on carving, skinning, and removing those intestines. Brave man and super cool actor!
BTW – speaking of Jaime/NCW – he is in the BEST 2011 Norwegian movie currently playing on Pay per View. It’s called “Hodejegerne” (“Headhunters”) – really good crime thriller. NCW cleans up nice and I want that dog! (Warning: Nudity in the Trailer :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFKM0ETjGjU

I presume that it was a deer that had originally been shot for its meat and they just paid for the whole carcass, unskinned and not gutted. There’s a pretty big market for venison here in the UK (I should know, I had some very tasty venison burgers last Sunday ) so it wouldn’t have been that hard to get hold of a carcass.
Still Game of Thrones is at the fore front of gore, with real guts.

Wildseed, Silent Hill is based on a video game. I never played it but it is apparently scary as hell. The first movie freaked me out a little and the end was incredibly violent (to me personally), but beyond that it wasn’t bad at all. I’ll see it for Kit and Sean and to get a few scares, not neccasssarily for the story line. But I’ve an ugly feeling that if the film turns out to be bad a lot of the blame will be laid on Kit’s shoulders, as per usual. He already mentioned that the Vincent Carter in the film (his character) differs greatly from the original character in the game. I’m actually more looking forward to 7th Son, out next year :)

I grew up up very near the ocean so, even thriller movies about surfing is off limits
to me. I heard much about a vintage movie called ” Jaws “, but I have never seen it,
or anything similar.
I have watched the “Walking Dead” with some help from my neighbor, I hit
her with my pillow or run into her kitchen. *_*

Jaws is a masterpiece. Speilberg’s best. Allay your fears and go watch the new blu ray remastered edition. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, the greatest monologue in film history.

Wildseed, shame, it sounds like scary films really scare you. What do you do if the white walkers come up? You probably then haven’t seen Paranormal activity either. The Shining is also another horror that’s good and Jaws is one of my favourite films.
Carrie-ann Moss and the guy who was in A Clock-Work Orange is also in Silent Hill 2, so it might be worth it.

Almost watched the Shining movie on cable, but no, I “chickened out “.
I have never watched or sought out a Horror or senseless violence movie,
my imagination is enough. I’d rather read a book or fly a kite.
I’m quite surprised at my interest in the Walking Dead, but my neighbor helps
me through it, and a tightly held pillow. With the followup show, Talking Dead,
I get to examine the plot and diffuse the anxiety.
As for the Wights or Others, my handy Obsidian Glass will aide me, same as
cowardly Sam. People will refer to me as ” Slayer “, Buffy might call to
congratulate me. There is no honour in being a Nerd, if you don’t study up
for the best defence ( especially if brawn isn’t a requirement ).

When I swam in the warm waters of the Atlantic, and it’s tributaries, my greatest
fear was Man O’ Wars and Jelly Fish. I was never stupid enough to get caught
by a Crocodile, or wander into a pond of leeches. Now located adjacent to the
freezing Pacific Ocean, Great Whites wander close to swimmers. My motto
remains gaining insight, and avoid places that others fear. I find safer beaches
to swim, avoid Horror movies, keep it simple.
I really liked Roy Schneider, watched a few of his films. I have no clue, however,
of sequels or related films, they went ignored.
I watched a Pauly Shore movie once, does that count as Horror ? Oh it was :D

I like thrillers and horrors largely for the thrill of it. Sometimes they are brilliantly made and other times just scary as hell. How about psychological thrillers?
The Fourth Kind was unbelievably scary to me. A bit far-fetched, but who would have believed that Sumerian-gods-as-aliens would be so frightening? And then I love M. Night Shyamalan movies, but mentioning this will probably start a debate. I recently sceptically watched the new Cabin in the Woods and actually liked it. The second adjacent story line made it very interesting.

Ever fly a large kite at the beach, and get swept away by a gust of wind , kite off
course and feet dangling above ground ? Get to yell ,Fuck Yeah!, from a guest rental
window ( Cinque Terre, Italy) that took 92 stairs to reach ( with heavy luggage in
hand )? Nearly lost my balance hiking a steep trail at Yosemite NP ? These were
thrills ( almost near horrors ) for me, still can’t get them out of my mind , years
later.
Psycho dramas might be interesting, depending on the director and intriguing
story ( sans extensive brutal scenes). I was quite surprised I watched , Girl with
the Dragon Tatoo , on cable. That one was interesting and unusual for me to
like.
Every now and then tho, I need to believe I’m a descendant of the {COTF }
Children of the Forest. That’s where George Martin and ASOIAF comes in.

If you liked the Fincher version of DRAGON, check out the original with the remarkable Noomi Rapace, who was robbed of the Oscar IMHO. She didn’t even receiving a nomination, perhaps because the Academy wanted to save a potential nod for one of its darlings, Fincher’s, choice. (Rooney Mara received the nomination.) Rapace, who was Fincher’s first choice, delivers a stunning performance. I don’t think the snub was just because the orig was in Swedish; it was released here, so I believe it was eligible.

I heard that because the Swedish Millenium films were a tv miniseries before they were edited down into feature film length or released as feature films (I’m not sure) is the main reason why the Swedish films were ineligible for Oscar consideration. If anything they may have qualified for Emmys, but the Emmys don’t give a rat’s ass about foreign shows unless its from BBC by way of PBS.
Personally I thought Mara did a fantastic job as Salander. I thought her interpretation was closest to the book. But Rapace was fantastic in the role there is no doubt. I suppose Mara’s youth is closer to that of the novels is why I prefer the Fincher version, that and Craig’s Blomquist was miles above Lindquist (?)’s bland Blomquist. He was good in MI4 though!
Rapace has her name out now though so if she gets a meaty role away from box office fare like Sherlock Holmes and Prometheus, she will get her due.

Thanks for that clarification— if that’s the case, it’s some comfort. The Swedish version was eligible for the BAFTAs, which typically follows the rules of the Academy, where Rapace lost to Portman, who, rumor had it, did very little of her own dancing (despite getting a lot of mileage from how “authentic” her performance was).
I agree that Rapace has reaped the benefit from her star turn as the Swedish Salander, but a role like that comes along for actresses only once in a career, sadly, given the current state of Hollywood film making.
Edit to add: I believe the first Swedish film was an original feature but the two sequels were TV movies. Fincher is having tough going getting the second U.S. film greenlit, despite his mojo.

On a different note, I’ve just re-watched Melacholia for the 3rd time, after swearing
that I hated it at first. Director Lars von Trier’s work always affect me that way, the
same happened with Dogville and Manderlay. I seem to have a love-hate thing going
on there. Stellan Skarsgard was his finest in GWTDT.

I found the swedish versions to be the best IMO, although loved what David Fincher did.
Wildseed, try Shutter Island, Leonardo DiCaprio is great in it. Greenseers are awesome. I can’t wait to see the Reeds. And your thrills definitely sound better than mine. I think I just need to get out more.

Stellan would have made the perfect Blomquist; Fincher needed the box office draw of Craig to get the film made, however. I agree about Melancholia; Alex has played so many “perfect bridegrooms” (Om Sara, anyone?) that soon he will be typecast. Von Trier is his own worst enemy.
