Emilia Clarke was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. A few other Game of Thrones actors have had a chance to go on late night talk shows and talk up the show, but this is, I believe, Emilia Clarke’s first time. Watch her appearance in two parts below.
Part two is after the break.
Winter Is Coming: Emilia did a smashing job, she was charming and lovely as usual. Who else from the cast would you like to see on a late night talk show?

I imagine it would be pretty tough to have to deal with family when one’s job involves numerous scenes of extended nudity, lol. I was glad to hear her not denying any such scenes for next season as well, I think ‘no-nudity’ clauses when it’s called for are unfortunate, and it’s cool she is apparently willing to still do a bit though she’s now a breakout star.
Also I should probably watch Kimmel more often.

Yeah, but… it’s going to be bittersweet for Dany’s fanboys because of Daario. Judging by the forums over at Westeros, he’s probably the most hated character in the entire series, other than perhaps Joffrey, and he doesn’t even do anything particularly wrong… other than eat his beef wit gold teef, of course.

Indeed so. He could have been the most interesting man in the world (he’s clearly not though), but if the POV chapter is Dany’s and all she can do is pine for him for endless pages then I would have hated him just the same. It’s all on Dany’s lack of a presence (but not page numbers) for much of that book.

I always felt like some of the Daario hate came from people who were upset someone was fucking Dany. Daario is a swaggerish guy, like the captain of the football team in highschool, and the words people throw around make me think it’s almost jealousy, that Danny is serving for whatever girl they liked and Daario is the douchebag fucking her.
Eor75Quote Reply
Steven Swanson,
Ha! I’ve never really thought about it along those lines, but it makes perfect sense. Maybe that’s why I was never bothered by his character. Once I realized that being the nice guy kept getting me boxed into the friend zone, I ditched that approach for a more Darioesque approach to women. Eventually I grew out of that, but there is no denying that it’s a lot easier to avoid dry spells being the “bad boy” than actually being a stand up guy. It’s a shame, but that’s the way it is.
DanQuote Reply
Dan,
Um, no. The key is to neither be a whingeing, resentful, liar who pretends to be friends with women to get in their pants OR an asshole who fucks and runs. Try actually being a decent person and treating women like human beings. You’ll be surprised how well it works.
Only “nice guys” finish last. Actually decent people who happen to be men finish first, and stay for the long haul.
P.S. the friend zone doesn’t exist.

I love Jorah (especially show-Jorah) and I worship Dany but I really don’t think that Daario is “in the way” of a realizable Jorah/Dany romance. This is Dany’s story, and she needs to be given the agency to choose to be with someone she’s actually attracted to (and not only physically, she also sees Jorah as a father/brother figure). She can’t help that she doesn’t feel the same way about Jorah as he does about her (in fact she feels really badly about it).
I actually think that one of the few things they did well in Season 2 with Dany’s storyline was how clear it was that Dany was not receptive to Jorah’s increasingly obvious mooning… That it was just complicating things for her and interfering with their otherwise mutually beneficial friendship. I imagine that endgame for Dany (if she has one) is neither of these guys. They are hardly suitable husband material for Queen of Westeros.
All that said I’m totally looking forward to “the kiss” because I love the DRAMA, plus the actors are both super sexy, mmm.
Yeah it would be super wrong, since Missandei is supposed to be like 9 years old and they have this maternal relationship… I hope that the reason they aged up Missandei was to make filming easier, not so they could have gratuitous lesbian sex. It would have made some sense with Doreah or Irri, but the show runners put a stop to that.
queenofthornsQuote Reply
Nope. Quaithe warned Dany about pretty much everyone in the universe except Daario (including at least Jorah, Tyrion, Aegon, Victarion, and Quentyn). Maybe you’re thinking about how Dany is constantly worried that he’s not really suitable for her and obviously isn’t a very good person. Which is why she keeps him at arms length even while fucking him with gusto whenever possible. :p
Ya know, I kind of think GRRM is setting us up to be surprised, and for Daario to actually remain loyal to the (probably his) end. Dany might end up betraying him, in fact. If there’s anythign GRRM likes to do, it’s mess with ASOIAF nerds’ expectations. ;)
It’s not exactly fair to single her out. You could make a VERY similar list about Tyrion and Shae from book two and three. He thinks about fuking Shae or actually does it in every single chapter (Dany and Daario are shown to have sex in only one chapter). Or Jon and Ygritte for that matter. For the life of me I don’t know why readers are so much more sensitive to the Dany/Daario thing. Maybe it’s the young male demo at work.

Queenofthorns,
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the key to getting women is to pretend to be friends with them or to be an asshole. I’m saying that being preceived as the “bad boy” is a lot more effective than being preceived as the “nice guy”.
I’ll give you an example of what I mean. When I was 18 I used to be a bit of a romantic. There was this one girl that I had a huge crush on, and my way of winning her over was to give her anything she wanted. When she wanted to learn to drive a stick shift, I taught her. When she said she liked a particular song, I went and bought her the CD. When she said she liked when men wore a certain type of cologne, I started wearing it. And on and on. I would write her love letters, buy her flowers, and take her to all the awful romantic comedies she wanted to see. But every time I tried to get us to become more than just friends I would get shot down. She would always say she didn’t see me that way, and that she didn’t want to ruin our friendship.
Then I went a few years without seeing this girl, and I had started dealing in less than legal activities, dropped the romantic gestures with women, and stopped putting women on a pedestal. So I run into her at a party, and we briefly got caught up, but for the rest of the night I completely ignored her. Every bone in my body wanted to spend the entire night talking to her, but I had learned that was a death knell when it came to most girls. Then about a week later she started calling me, but I just ignored her calls. I let this go on for a while and then eventually invited her to a party. Still, I didn’t want her to think I was still in to her, so I also asked for one of her girlfriends numbers to invite her. The night of the party I talked to virtually every girl there but her. By the end of the night she was throwing herself at me. She kept talking about how different I was, and how I was so “bad” now. In reality I was the same guy, but her perception of me had changed because I was simply playing games with her head.
Now, I didn’t tell her any lies, pretend to be her friend, or act like an asshole. The whole reason I went from being “just a friend” to sleeping with her was because I acted like I wasn’t interested in her anymore, and she thought my lifestyle was “dangerous”. Unfortunately, these kind of games are a lot more successful than being a nice guy. I stopped playing them a while ago, but that doesn’t mean I can’t acknowledge that they are effective.
One last thing, I don’t think guys are the only ones who play games. I’ve known plenty of girls who were masters at manipulating guys to get what they want. I messed around with a stripper for a while who would have guys take her shopping and then drop her off at MY place. It was really fascinating to watch this girl work dudes. Again, I’m not saying it is the right thing to do, but it is effective. The majority of people, guys and girls, want what they can’t have, and are attracted to what they perceive as dangerous.
DanQuote Reply
Dan,
Morally questionable how you manipulated the girl to sleep with you but I agree with your assessment 100%.

No Dan. You weren’t the same guy. You went from being the whining resentful liar to being a lying prick. You’re probably right though that guys who fake being tough or bad boys get more booty than guys who fake being a nice guy.
Hopefully, you’ve figured out how to just be yourself and have gained enough confidence in yourself that you have other priorities than just trying to convince women to have sex.
DemeQuote Reply
Dan,
I actually think what you wrote proves my point. When you say “my way of winning her over was to give her anything she wanted,” that shows that you were indeed faking friendship to get her into your bed. Women don’t like to be treated in this manipulative way – it’s super transparent and downright suffocating. Being on a pedestal isn’t fun. Most importantly, your behavior bears no resemblance to actually “being nice”.
So why did she decide to sleep with you later? Probably because she was relieved that you were no longer so suffocating, cloying, and manipulative. It doesn’t sound like you were actually being a cruel to her at that party, just treating her like you would any other casual acquaintance. Maybe she thought you’d really changed (she was wrong, since you were still faking, just in the other direction).
I don’t disagree. However, it really is the guy’s behavior that facilitates this (or more clearly, they facilitate each other). She sees these guys as manipulative, so she’s returning the favor. Honestly, it seems mutually beneficial if distasteful.
I disagree. It’s a small minority of insecure and immature people who engage in this type of behavior, on either side. This kind of tactic is “effective” for a certain minority, not the majority. And honestly the only people I’ve heard of who act this way are on the internet or in bad sitcoms/romcoms. Those of us who live in the real world are happily coupled, happily single, or happily having casual relationships with other mature people.
MTE…

queenofthorns,
No, I wasn’t faking friendship to get her into bed. In fact, at that point in my life if she would’ve said let’s get married, but not have sex until we are, then I would have done it in a heart beat. I was head over heels for this girl. The reason I was willing to do anything she wanted was because I desperately wanted her to be my girlfriend. We used to spend hours upon hours talking on the phone, and I loved every minute of it. I loved every second I hung out with her. I wasn’t doing it because I was trying to get her bed. Heck, if she would’ve slept with me, I would’ve only fell more deeply in love with her. So you are way off on the intentions you attribute to me. I was a romantic at heart back then, and I thought one day she would feel the same way about me and we would spend our lives together. My 18 year old self wouldn’t have even considered doing anything to hurt this girl, and if someone else hurt her I was there to defend her. I beat the crap out of a good friend of mine for pushing her, and I threatened to end her abusive father if he ever came near her again. I’m still friends with this girl today even though neither of us would ever think of getting together in a relationship. The fact that you see the behavior of my 18 year old self as manipulative just furthers my point that being a nice guy typically doesn’t work.
No, I’m still friends with her. She’s told me why. She slept with me because she was jealous of the attention I was giving other girls and not her, and she always had a thing for bad boys, which she preceived me to be at the time. Also, I wasn’t being manipulative in the beginning, as I’ve said above. I’m being pretty forthright with my behavior, so you can either believe me or not, it makes no difference to me. Although, I’ll fully admit I was suffocating in the beginning.
Ha! If you knew this girl you would see how funny that statement is. She didn’t see these guys as manipulative. She saw them as marks. Heck, she used to manipulate other women just as much as men. This girl was the most conniving person I’ve ever met in my life. You seem to attribute any act where a guy does things for girls to be manipulative. Maybe it is in certain situations, but not all guys that try to win a girls affections with gifts and romantic gestures is trying to trick her into bed. Sometimes the guy just actually likes the girl and chooses that method to express their feelings.
I think it’s way off to think that only a small minority want what they can’t have, and are attracted to what they preceive as dangerous. You may rarely come across people who behave this way, but I rarely come across people who don’t.
Oh yeah, the real world is just filled with happy happy people.
DanQuote Reply
Deme,
I’m not sure why you are directing such a snide comment towards me. I already stated that I don’t endorse the manipulative things I did in the past, and said I no longer do those kind of things. I was a young man who had messed up priorities. I cared more about getting laid than most other things at the time. I’m sorry if my being honest about my past ruffles your feathers, but I can’t change my previous actions. I instead try to be honest with myself and others about things I’ve done, and try to learn from my successes and failures. I was simply being honest about my past actions and admitting that they were effective, not endorsing the behavior.
Hopefully, you’ll figure out a more tactful way to have discussions with people, instead of making snide comments that contribute nothing but animosity.
Also I wasn’t being a fake tough guy or a fake nice guy. I was a nice guy to her in the beginning, and didn’t fake it. I also never faked being a tough guy. I simply did what I did and a lot of women perceived me as a bad boy because of my actions. I wasn’t going around making up stories to sound tough. The manipulative things I did were around making girls jealous and to make them think I wasn’t interested in them. I wasn’t manipulating them into thinking I was a tough guy. They thought that on their own, and it wasn’t how I perceived myself.

I think one of the reasons fan boys hate Daario is because he not only gets Dany, but that it is Dany who chooses to have a meaningless sexual relationship with him. Good girls can have sex if they’re married, in love or forced.
They aren’t supposed to have sexual ideas or feelings for their own gratification. Some have even posted on here about Dany’s character being damaged because she scratches a physical itch with Daario. I think many nerds object to ‘good’ women having sexual agency ( unless they are whores).
I agree there is also anger and frustration due to the sloth and pointlessness of the Mereen story thread. I think both get mixed up.
