Mads as Euron and James Purefoy as Victarion, in an expanded role. The show has a chance to make the Ironborn more interesting than I think they came across in the novels, and strong, charismatic actors are the way to do it.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas and holiday cheer to the entire WIC family and the ASOIF community at large! Thank you for your hard work on behalf of us all! All the best to Joshua Taylor, Ms. H’ghar and Sunspear for always being kind and replying to my posts and questions!

    As for wishes:

    1. Seeing Ana Torv cast in GoT! Please, pretty please HBO give her a chance on the show! She would be great! Maybe as Val? We already got a taste of delicious Ms. Torv in a small, but quite eye openning role in “The Pacific”! So the HBO/Anna Torv combo is proven to work already!
    2. Seeing fellow aussie John Noble cast as well! Maybe as Mad King Aerys in a flashback sequence or even episode? He sure can play the part! He was Denethor in the LOTR movie trilogy after all!
3.Getting Conan Stevens back as The Mountain!!!!

PS As for James Purefoy, as much as I would like him on GoT, I think that for now he is quite out of reach for us, he’ll be starring in a new show next year alongside Kevin Bacon, it is titled “The Following”.

    See trailer below:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5cHX1MYRxc

    (Damn him…he is good!)

I was never a huge fan of the “Spartacus” series, especially since Andy Whitfield’s untimely death, but its pretty good eye candy at least, and it could help us with our GoT winter blues!

Here is the trailer for the last season of the series…WARNING…NSFW!

I have to ask – what role has Oded Fehr done that makes people think he’d be a good fit for the Red Vioer? Honestly, just about every movie I’ve seen him in has been awful, even if his performances weren’t. He’s a pretty mediocre actor, all in all. Alexander Siddig or Cliff Simon, all the way.

I’ve got some too. Mostly the obvious ones.

    1. An awesome season 3

    2. Increased or steady ratings from s2.

    3. For what we are all waiting for to turn out to be one of the very best scene(s) on a television show ever.

    4. Season 4 greenlight. Some say if we get season 3 with THE event, the rest is just gravy – I say if we get all the rest of ASOS with the fourth season, I’m content.

    5. For D&D to have found a fitting way to end s3. I’m not so sure this time around. The first season was easy peasy with the dragons. The second, not as obvious, post Blackwater, yet the all-out reveal of the Walkers at TFOTFM, was almost as satisfying. This time around? Meeh… not so sure what would match it.

I haven’t heard of the actors you suggested but googled them and Cliff Simon definitely looks the part! Do you reckon he has the acting chops to pull off a role as one of the biggest bad-asses in Westeros?

I am still one of many hoping for the return of Conan Stevens as the Mountain. Or at the very least someone with shoulders to compliment the height. (In fact, I’d take someone bulky and play camera tricks to make us believe he has the height if it came down to it.) For me, Ian Whyte just doesn’t fill the shoes. His Gregor was the least-menacing Mountain I could imagine.

If I could have Alexander Siddig as the Red Viper, I’d be extremely happy.

I always imagined Balon Greyjoy almost exactly like John Noble. I would much rather of seen him cast as him but he would still be a nice addition. As for my wishes: Dany needs to stop being annoying and should really start being a badass (God knows the series needs to make up for what some of the books lack on that front and no I’m not talking about weak plot twists like dragon theft). Secondly, season three surpasses anything the first or second have done thus far. Lastly, I want Jamie’s character to truly get the attention it deserves, being that it is not only my favorite but also one of the most compelling.

Re: the Spartacus trailer looks awesome, but I am somewhat taken aback that Julius Caesar has long barbarian hair….what? But I saw another featurette where he had short hair and was in Roman uniform. So I’m thinking they may be acknowledging Caesar’s captivity by the pirates before he served under Crassus. I hope so.

Crassus is going to be awesome though. We will see how this actor tackles a role that Lawrence Olivier made famous.

    1) Season 3 sticking closer to the book than Season 2. The material is so good, why deviate from it too much? If they can pull it off, they’ll be back to being nominated as one of the best dramas again.
    2) Good casting news – Conan Stevens returns as The Mountain, Strong Belwas makes an appearance, and we get less Ros.

This is happening in late 2014. The first 4 stories will be published in one volume, likely called THE TALES OF DUNK AND EGG, VOLUME 1, or something similar.

Take heart, Mr. Martin has confirmed in a comment of his December 3 NAB entry that he is well past the midway point.

    From that very post:

Unfortunately, that’s a misquote. I am working on WINDS, but it is nowhere near half done.

Did you see the Homeland finale? It seems Morena B. might have a smaller role in Season 3. She would be SO COOL as a sand snake. So pretty. My b/f and I were BLOWN AWAY by the Homeland finale. We weren’t expecting that at all.

If Oded Fehr, Alexander Siddiq, and Eric Bana are not available for the Red Viper – what about Amir Arison? He’s the actor who played Saudi Prince Farid bin Abbud in Homeland – remember the bedroom scene with the CIA undercover agent Lynne Reed and the diamond necklace? He’s 6’1″ – kind of looks like Oded Fehr.
TBH – I would LOVE Jason Momoa to come back as the Red Viper! The make-up people on GoT are so good they could make him look totally different than he looked as Khal Drogo, and that way, we would get to see him again!

Parminder Nagra is beautiful but in her late 30s, maybe a little old to be Arianne Martell, I think. How about Anjli Mohindra for Arianne?

My wishlist? A fitting end to season 3, that leaves some balance or at least hope of payback for the Red Wedding. My preference would be a season written around the major events of Hoster’s funeral and the three weddings – Sansa/Tyrion, Red and Purple with Joffrey’s death and Sansa’s escape from Kings Landing to leave the audience feeling there’s at least some light at the end of the tunnel leading into season 4. I don’t expect that, but I do expect and wish for a phenomenal finale.

Bring Ned back? Oh my sweet summer child think your missing the point of A Song of Ice and Fire. It’s not traditional fantasy where the good guys win and the bad guys lose. No one is truly good and no one is truly evil. It’s humanity at its worst/at its best. To hope for good things to happen will only heighten your dissapointment. Just enjoy the characters and how each struggles to survive in Martin ‘s hyper realistic fantasy world. You win or you die.

And yes I have seen the Homeland finale. It was very good although I never seem to find Homeland to be quoite as good as most people seem to find it. I thought season 1 was very good but season 2 was very average with only a few really good episodes. But yes, now that Brody’s on the run, I imagine we won’t be seeing as much of his family anymore which might free up Morena Baccarin (although she’s very good in Homeland I always preferred her in Firefly).

A show that I’ve always found far superior to Homeland is Breaking Bad. It’s shooting its final episodes right now so the actors will be freed up for other things. I would love to see literally anyone from BB in Game of Thrones. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Jonathan Banks, Dean Norris. All amazing.

Also the BBC’s new Sherlock series is really good. The leads that are Sherlock and Watson (Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) are wayyy too busy now with Star Trek and The Hobbit but the guy that plays Moriarty – Andrew Scott would be amazing in Thrones. Not sure who though… maybe a Frey?

His Crixus is fantastic. The first 4 episodes of Spartacus are forgettable but after that…fantastic series. It is what it is and proud of it yet manages to transcend itself. This is mostly through the performances of Bennett, Lucy Lawless, Viva Bianca, John Hannah and the late Andy Whitfield who gave it heart and soul even after his passing.

    Quowala,

My b/f (the Stargate SG-1 expert) said yes – Cliff Simon would be a good choice for the Red Viper. Still – the more I think about it – I would love to see Eric Bana get the role. He hasn’t had a good part in a while and he’s such a good actor and sword-fighter (Prince Hector in “Troy”).

I think Homeland is so popular because it feels so current – like watching CNN Breaking News with good-looking people. It kind of reminds me of “Syriana” – one of my favorite movies of all time (once I understood everything that was going on). Have only watched a few episodes of BB – but the acting is excellent. That actor that you mentioned – Andrew Scott – would be good in GoT. He was in The Hour – everyone is in The Hour – Dominic, Ben, Burn, Oona, Romola – that one is good too.

    Tereeza777,

Haha on first name terms with a lot of actors there!
Oh yeah haven’t seen the Hour but heard its very good.
Eric Bana would be cool but I think thats pretty unlikely…
And would recommend Breaking Bad so so so so so much. Its up there with GOT. GOT, BB and The Sopranos… dont think I could choose between them…

“If Oded Fehr, Alexander Siddiq, and Eric Bana are not available for the Red Viper”
Eric Bana as the Red Viper?Ooohhhh…..and guess who he is friends with? After doing “Black Hawk Down”?Yep…you got it…NCW.(And, no, I am not a NCW stalker…I promise)

    Gatorfisch,

It’s OK – LOVE NCW. (In my fangirl fantasies, he comes in a very close 2nd to Jaqen H’ghar.) Didn’t know he and Eric Bana were good friends. Wow – NCW and Eric Bana in King’s Landing at the same time – time to plan a trip to Dubrovnik! These clips have been out for a long time but in case you haven’t seen them – 1st one is NCW at a Copenhagen Fitness Center as part of a Danish TV show called “This Is Your Life” (like Candid Camera). NCW doesn’t realize the “flash mob” is for him. He’s so cute and so tall. 2nd clip is a trailer from the movie “Headhunters” – it’s in Norwegian with subtitles – it’s a really good movie and NCW is great in it.

Wow. Eric Bana as the Viper would be amazing. And he’s not as high profile as he used to be. We need to get NCW to talk to HBO and Bana about the role. He would only have to be in a couple of episodes.

Don’t forget David Benioff wrote Troy. So there’s another connection there.

    I’m an optimist.

‘Nowhere near half done’ means he is nowhere near to being half done, i.e. substantially less than being half-done.

How do you know? This is the American Tolkien you’re talking about. I admit, I am not privy to what goes on in GRRM’s head. But, “nowhere near half done” could mean anything. He could be wallowing in the depths of Dany’s storyline, crushed beneath the depths of the halfway point. Or soaring about it, like warged pigeon freed from the shackles of editorial control. I have been accused of living in the fourth, sometimes fifth, dimension, but your pessimistic outlook speaks of a people unwilling to open their consciousness to the Great Pink Wink of the cosmos that spreads itself above mortal humans inviting them to lap up total awareness. You need a good foot rub and some cucumber water.

I admire your tenacity about a Autumn 2013 release date for TWOW :D

Martin’s writing progress, especially amid holiday slowdowns is anyone’s
guess, but for there are many dates ( 2013 included ) speculated upon.
US publishers , Bantam Spectra , lists a tentative date of 2015, and a
mid October interview with Martin quoted him as stating possibly 2014.
I’m holding onto some optimism of a fourth installment of ” Dunk and Egg ”
bound selection ( Novellas 1-4 ) by 2014, from GRRM’s last mention of it,
perhaps before ” The Winds of Winter “. To be sure, the release dates will
likely updated forward, until the publishers are satisfied. It’s all worth the
wait, sip some chamomile tea and relax. It is not known…..yet .
