Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi interviewed

Film, Music & Media recently had a chat with Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi. They talk specifically about Thrones quite a bit, but also touch on some of Djawadi’s other work.

Winter Is Coming: An interesting interview. It is nice to hear from Djawadi and get some insight into scoring the show.

Often the most under rated members of the crew but the music can set a scene as good as any props

Season 2 was even better than the first in terms of different themes (Lord of light, Greyjoy etc.) I’m really looking forward to the music connected to Dorne, and if the gods are good maybe we will get a Bolton theme to.

    glenn,

Agreed. Just ask Bear McCreary. The Battlestar soundtrack was amazing, and The Walking Dead isn’t far behind.

I’m really thankful for this interview. Ramin’s music is absolutely phenomenal, and yet – HBO gave us no bonus material about it on DVD and Blu-ray.

Next season, I so look forward for some new themes : Bolton, Brotherhood, maybe Queen of Thorns, Wildlings, Slaver’s Bay… maybe even a whole new theme for the Red Wedding…

“Pay the Iron Price” is definitly Ramin’s best achievment yet !

As a film score buff I personally thought the music he wrote prior to GoT was subpar Zimmerclone material. But I think he just needed to be inspired. His work on GoT has been excellent. Keep up the good work Ramin!

A Bolton theme will be awesome. I also can’t wait to hear more of the Tyrell theme briefly heard in season 2 ep 3.

I love this guy’s soundtrack so much, it’s perfect and nobody can deny the epicness of the Main Title theme.

BTW, if anyone remembers I created a quick remake version of the Rains of Castamere by Ramin and The National with some BOOM DOOM drums a while ago, I used to use the name “Conor”. I uploaded it to youtube with an echo effect and more realistic instruments to get an idea how it would sound in the Twins with a real band an no singer playing it. Give it a look to hopefully get an idea of how it might sound next year with Drums, at least I hope they add drums.

This man is a legend. I’ve had the GoT theme stuck in my head since I first saw the show. He does such a great job of tailoring the music to each of the different regions in the world, i.e.; Vaes Dothrak, Winterfell, Iron Islands, etc. Looking forward to Season 3 music!

An inspiration. The Season Two Soundtract was amazing. Warrior of Light and Pay the Iron Price are my favourites. And The Throne is Mine. And Valar Morghulis. And Don’t Die With a Clean Sword…

He does not get enough credit. I find myself humming the GOT theme to myself several times a week. Sometimes I’ve even done it in public.

Funny you would say that, I was thinking all the while of Hans Zimmer too.

Djawadi’s GoT score is worthy of purchase for a music collection. The piece
posted here earlier at WiC was very insightful about the individual character
music scores, I’ve been a fan ever since. The Pay Phone Parody and other
music Raps have been cute, but this one is a keeper. I’m looking forward to
the introduction of significant characters, and their thematic scores for S3,4.

    The mighty hodor,

I keep thinking the same thing. I’ve envisioned Billy Idol playing in the episode preview for a long time, as goofy as it’d be.

His soundtracks are beautiful! Dany’s dragon themes sound so Middle Eastern. King Robert’s theme sounded so medieval and kingly. Syrio Forel’s theme (The Pointy End/Waterdance) sounded a little bit like Jaqen’s theme (Valar Morghulis).

And for the RW – maybe he will use a variation of “I Am Hers, She Is Mine” – such a beautiful, but sad, song. He’s so handsome, and he sounds German ……. just like Jaqen.

Love the GoT music, and yes, S2 moved this woman to purchase the soundtrack! It’s going to be really fascinating to hear what he comes up with for new characters and situations in the new season. And yes, a cutie to boot.

The Red Wedding has a theme song and it’s called, “The Rains of Castamere.” Respecognize.

I am not “into” sound tracks much, but had to buy season 2.. and probably will buy season 1. Can’t believe how much I enjoy it!!! Really perfect and a very underrated part of the show. Very talented composer – and not bad looking either, he he…
