  • Ooooh, Osha looking fiiiine. Imagine they’ll keep them together through the point when they reach the Wall and Coldhands. By then wouldn’t be surprised to see Osha and Rickon split off; maybe some kind of excuse will be made: “Only one Stark can go,” or Coldhands will just make a demand. “Just him.” Or something. It may have the effect of reducing Natalia Tena’s role in Season 4, but that’s ok. She’ll be around at some point; we do hear that Rickon makes his way to Skagos, and presumably with Osha. GRRM said he’s excited to write her part, wonder if she’ll become a POV character in WoW.

  • GreatJon of Slumber,

I think this is likely but I have a weird feeling about the scene with Jojen approaching them seemingly for the first time in the extended trailer. They seem to be playing it off like Bran is the first person to wake but you’d think that would be Osha were she still there. But the again it would seem irresponsible of her to leave Bran with just Hodor haha. But no Osha POV, we’ll see her through Davos.

  • The Dear Hunter,

I think it’s likely she’s off hunting somewhere or something. I think it’s likely they keep them together as long as they can. (And sorry, yeah, no POV, but show can easily expand on her role detailing how she goes from the north to Skagos.)

  • Reverse Nielsen:
These are nice. Joffrey actually looks pretty innocent in that 3rd one!

Only because they cropped out the bag of puppies he is holding over the hearth.

  • hey i’ve just read some rumors about season 3. there will be a lot of changes from the book, but one change really pisses me off Stannis will seriously contemplate giving Shireen to the flames WTF??
also big spoiler Tallisa will be at the RW and she died. this means that Robb don’t have a heir and Jeyne Westerling is not pregnant in the books. it is rumors, but i think they may be right

  • GreatJon of Slumber,

Yeah, this sounds about right. All in all, I have faith that the show will do it well regardless, just so long as they aren’t together and never split up:0 one shudders at the thought…

  • I was rereading bits of Storm of Swords: Part 2 and saw what Joffrey’s line in the trailer “Everyone is mine to torment” must be in response to! The shape of S3 is getting clearer, especially with the final episode title.

  • Reverse Nielsen: Joffrey actually looks pretty innocent in that 3rd one!

Joff is one pretty pretty kinglet in his flashy royal garments. Also a sadistic little psycho but still.

Even if true, why would either of those piss you off?

There’s no Edric Storm, at least that we know of, so Shireen seems a nice replacement for that storyline and a much more dramatic one. Stannis assassinated his own brother and despite Stannis-lovers’ constant arguments, has been willing to do quite a bit in pursuit of his rights. He’s not going to do it, but I think that’s a nice simplification and change.

This is a no brainer and doesn’t mean ANYTHING about the books. Whether or not Robb has a heir by Jeyne has absolutely no bearing on 99% of the ending of ASOIF. The kid isn’t going to grow up and fight the others. They can cut any of that storyline they want and not change the story in any material way. An easy simplification.

  • wait, there was a boy who was cast without a character attached, who people thought to be either Edric Storm or Edric Dayne. Edric Dayne has (maybe) one important thing to do in book 3. Tell Arya that he and Jon are milk brothers. I think they boy they cast is Edric Storm, his role is more important.

  • Alan: Even if true, why would either of those piss you off?

It would mean that they are straying more from the Stannis of the books. Stannis never knowingly killed Renly in the books: he didn’t know what Melisandre would do. And he would never hurt Shireen, who is his only heir. Even the kinslaying aside, what kind of an idiot king would take out his only heir?

  • The Kingslayer,

I honestly never believed in that (Robb getting a heir). And, even if this plot can be considered open in the books, I don’t think closing it on the TV would imply it won’t happen in the book. Robb can still get a heir in the book, it’s just he won’t get a very large role (afterall, he will be just a baby).

The only problem I see in putting Talisa in the RW is that it would be a silly mistake from Robb to do that, since the whole point of Edmure’s wedding was to get back the support of House Frey – which he lost exactly for marrying Talisa!

“Book Robb” is not much a favorite character for me, but I do think he came to be quite a responsible man (given the circumstances), and made only one (big) mistake, whereas “TV Robb” makes foolish decisions a little more often.

  • Eleanor: The shape of S3 is getting clearer, especially with the final episode title.

I agree! I was speculating about themes for various episodes, and the last one stood out to me…

the Episode title is Myhsa (sp?) which means “mother”:

The most obvious interpretation would be Dany doing her mothery thing with the slaves .
    But also:
UnCat ieturns as angry dead mother ,
Lady Oleanna is the pre-emptive strike protective mother and
Cersei is the angry alive mother (I STILL think PW will happen in S03)

    voila bad (ass?) mothers .

  • Virtus: It would mean that they are straying more from the Stannis of the books. Stannis never knowingly killed Renly in the books: he didn’t know what Melisandre would do. And he would never hurt Shireen, who is his only heir. Even the kinslaying aside, what kind of an idiot king would take out his only heir?

That’s quite naive view of Stannis. He doesn’t know, and doesn’t want to know all the details in order to maintain plausible deniability, but he surely must have known Melissandre’s general intentions. If Renly didn’t die, Stannis forces would have been crushed in the battle, and he wasn’t in suicidal mood back then

  • On Stannis:

I’d be very surprised if Stannis arc would reach the sacrifice plot in season 3. Think about it, if Davos prevents Stannis from sacrificing his daughter or Edric Storm in season 3, they will leave for the Wall in the end of season 4. That would mean Stannis has to disappear for a complete season or the Battle against Mance Rayder and the wildlings would have to be in the middle of season 4.

Thus I think it’s still possible that Edric Storm and perhaps Storm’s End will be introduced in season 4. They could downplay Stannis and Dragonstone in season 3 a bit. Introduce Shireen and Selyse, imprison Davos, introduce fake Lightbringer (directly opposed to Beric’s burning sword), the leech ritual subplot. They could also focus more on Davos development. Showing us how he becomes a follower of the Seven, make him not try to murder Melisandre upon his return to Dragonstone but a few episodes later after he comes to the conclusion that Mel is going to lead Stannis astray.

At least that’s what I hope. Stannis can’t consider to sacrifice his own daughter. That would completely destroy Stannis, Selyse, and Shireen as characters. Shireen is Stannis’ heir. She will succeed him. What’s the point in being king if you murder your only child.

  • Virtus,

Technically Shireen can’t be his heir, for being a girl. That’s why he tried to offer Renly to be his heir, and so support his cause.

But, I do agree with you, that change (if true), will distance Stannis’ personality from the books. Usually I don’t mind changes from the books, as long as the story remains cohesive. But, on TV, Stannis is also shown (or said to be) a man of great moral, and, for him to to even consider doing that would be very debatable

  • Lord Varys,

I agree with you, but I don’t understand why people are so worried about that Reddit thread. It’s all speculation there. He doesn’t know about season 3 any more than we do. Most of what he says make sense, but it’s still just speculation.

  • It never ceases to amaze me how many people like Stannis.
To me, he has always been an uptight, cold-hearted power monger.

Then again, some people also love Jaime in spite of his willingness to kill a little boy, whereas I think I’ll only open up to Jaime after he suffers a lot more. Go figure…

  • Shireen replacing Edric makes no sense, as she is a plot device for Val to freak out at the wall. If they can’t produce Edric, they’ll have to leave out the feeding king’s blood to the flames thing. Otherwise Davos will have to pull a Jedi mind trick to keep Shireen safe.

  • Renata Riveri,

Not sure about that: I believe you are putting a modern spin on this, whereas from a medieval perspective, if a god demands something that would otherwise seem immoral, what is the moral action? It ties in with Jamie’s speech about oaths. And this was an issue in the book, just with a nephew rather than a daughter. Plus, Stannis really wants the throne that everyone else is improperly denying him.

  • What ‘s with the sleeveless dresses? There is one of Marg with a sleeveless dress. too.

WINTER IS COMING, don’t they know?

  • czechgirl,

I had completely dismissed the PW happening this season, but that shot of Cersei running down the steps in what is probably the red keep has me worried. I don’t think the PW should feature this season, I, like many others think that it should be the story driving event in the fourth season. But now I don’t know what to expect

  • Off-Topic:
According to denofgeek six scripts of season 4 are already written. I guess the greenlight for season 4 is a shure thing than. ;-)

  • MX,

That’s because some people like characters in terms of applying their morality. For others me included I don’t have to “like” a character, I just want them be interesting. Jaime threw a boy out a window? Oh well he’s a great character? Cat hates Jon Snow? Oh well she’s a great character.

That’s all that matters to me.

  • MX,

many men, many minds. for me Jaime is the best character and i think Stannis will be the best king from all of them. even better than Tommen.
for example i don’t understand why Imp and Dany have so many fans

  • Abyss,

Well, I think everyone has been reasonably sure we’re getting another season already. That doesn’t mean HBO has made it official, though. With the schedule they have to work with, I’d be far from surprised if the scripts started being written before the season they’re for has actually been greenlit.

  • Joshua Taylor,

it’s funny how people love for example Drogo and hate Jaime. because of Drogo villages burnt, women were raped, children were take in slavery, but they like him better than Jaime

  • I find this Shireen replacing Edric very plausible. At this point, I don’t like it, but am keeping some space in case I change my mind after seeing it play out. They might give Selyse (who’s a bigger fanatic than Stan) a bigger role in this … Also due to the fact that she’s being played by a pretty prominent actress. Who knows.

  • Delta1212,

I agree with all what you said. Of cause season 4 is going to happen, that’s why I put the smilely at the end. However, I find it interesting that six scripts are already written, with season 3 one month away, seems quite a lot to me, even considering the fact that they are most likely first drafts.

  • Phil: wait, there was a boy who was cast without a character attached, who people thought to be either Edric Storm or Edric Dayne. Edric Dayne has (maybe) one important thing to do in book 3. Pretty sure it was revealed that he was playing one of the Lannister squires killed by Lord Karstark.

  • The Kingslayer,

    I agree….
Jaime is the dark hero of the saga for me and has arguably had the biggest transformation (ie heroic redemption arc) of anyone in the saga.

For the life of me I cannot fathom why Dany has as many fans either. The most annoying of all the major players IMO. I do understand Tyrion-love though… He has a lot of great dialog and is one of the more active POV’s in the series that has taken us to many corners of the realms.

I never really thought Jaime or Drogo were bad men in all honesty. They are products of their environment and time, and frankly they were/ are what others aspire to in their cultures. Drogo the most fearsome and brutal warrior in a culture where stength in battle is the pinnacle and Jaime the most skilled blade of his generation.

  • OT: I think I just realized that The Bear and the Maiden Fair is actually a dirty song. >.>

  • Darquemode: The Kingslayer, I never really thought Jaime or Drogo were bad men in all honesty. They are products of their environment and time, and frankly they were/ are what others aspire to in their cultures. Probably the same reason people hate Tim Tebow. :P

  • The Kingslayer,

I understand the Dany divide when it comes to fans but seriously you can’t see why Tyrion is popular? I mean you don’t have to necessarily like the character but his appeal is obvious.

  • Joshua Taylor,

Meh…the way I see it, he does a damn good job of using his wit to cover up his terrible personality. I think people — some, certainly not all — just see the wit and the Tysha story and whitewash him as an abused little demon monkey from there. It’s debatable, I suppose.

I thought he was alright until the self-pitying shit started getting out of control. Then there’s the fact he’s likely part of the universe’s Super Special Bloodline, which is reaaaal annoying but you can’t escape every fantasy trope, I guess. And people are damn excited for the Tyrion Targ reveal, so who am I to tell ’em what to like.

  • Seriously though.

Let’s not pretend she’s not the “Unburnt” and has woken dragons from stone.

She’s a complex and nuanced character; people divided over her is testament to that. If everyone likes her, she’d be nothing more than a “cardboard character” as per George’s words.

  • Yah man, I don’t get the appeal either!!!1 Dany is soooo UNINTERESTING!!!!1 It’s so LAME how she’s the first person in YEARS to have hatched dragons from dragon eggs and how BORING that she went from meek captive princess to empowered queen, practically giving the title “khaleesi” a new meaning.

There’s that questionable fall to madness as well and her dual mother/dragon dynamic and how her whole arc is all about finding a home. SO NOT FASCINATING!!!!1 YAWN.

  • Joshua Taylor,

I suppose “liking” is too imprecise of a term.

Both actors are excellent, and I respect Stephene Dillane for his portrayal of Stannis. Nikolaj Koster-Waldau is also wonderful, I really like his interviews and the few pictures I’ve seen of him with his wife.

So to be clear, this is not about the actors’ portrayal or about interesting characters — my grief is about people who would vote for Stannis if he were a politician, or follow Jaime in war. They make my hair stand up.

I enjoy reading about Jaime, but do I like him or respect him before he gets really hit by fate? No, not at all. Stannis I find horrible, as I would if he were a real person — he is joyless and easy to manipulate. Ol’ king Robert was also a bloodthirsty swine, but there was joy and melancholy in him. As I woman, I’d much rather dally with him than with either Stannis or Jaime.

What’s there not to like about Tyrion? The best character in the show by far. Now, I’d probably vote for him if he were a politician.

  • Anyone noticed that in the links it says which episode each pic is from (except from Joffrey’s)? According to the last pic, Jon and the wildlings will be south of the Wall on episode 7 already. I’m now starting to think the first battle at the Wall will happen on episode 10, instead of being postponed to season 4. I hope I’m right, because Ygritte’s death is the perfect ending for Jon’s arc this season. I don’t know what Jon would do south of the Wall for three episodes.

  • Messyhair-demon has hopped from Osha to Jon. Somebody in this show has a fetish for loads of hairspray and then standing in front of windmachine on full speed.

  • I would be glad if there will be Osha’s POV in the books. She’s really interesting with all her knowledge about those old weird creepy stories.

  • Renata Riveri:

In the Theon chapter of Winds of Winter, that was released, Stannis expressly says that if he were to die, his forces should continue the war in the name of Shireen.

  • I heard there are gonna be some scenes with Littlefinger in the Eyre. how the fuck are they gonna do that? since joffrey’s wedding isn’t until season 4?????

  • MX,

Jaime is the probably the most grey character in the series. the most human, i would say. oneof my favourites
