  • Even thought it’s the middle of the night where I live, I’ll be watching it live, just because there’s D&D AND GRRM. I hope we get some interesting infos.

  • Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke, both stupendous entertainers! If I could have lunch with anyone it would be one of these two, and sorry Emilia, as pretty as you are, I think Peter would be my favored guest. It would be awesome to cook him a meal and drink a few beers with him! Thank you all for such a great show!! Cheers!

  • Not working for me :( .. I had sound and no picture for a while but now it all cut out and it is just showing the blue dragon and An Evening with Game of Thrones

  • Okay so I’m not alone then. Good. Glad I was wrong about the time, I came down 2-3 minutes late but I didn’t miss anything apparently :)

  • Oh no wait, it’s working now. NOT the livestream so sit tight folks!

Does anyone have a rough estimate of how long this is gonna be?

  • is this working for anybody? I just keep getting the ‘An Evening With Game of Thrones’ screen. Of course, maybe it hasn’t started yet?
edit – nevermind. OK, it hasn’t started yet. that’s a relief!!
I’m very excited! Before I forget, THANK you to all involved at WinterisComing.net for this awesomeness!

  • the message i see is “Red carpet arrivals wrapping up shortly. We hope to begin soon” so I imagine they will be starting momentarily.

  • i love how the first comments in this website are always from lost people who doesn’t know what they are talking about.

  • Hopefully this will be recorded and posted on youtube. I’m not sure how often it will buffer on my computer.

  • Yago:
I must be mad, getting out of bed for this at 3:40 AM…

Same here, except it’s 2:30 AM in good old England!

  • Guys… relax.

It hasn’t started yet because, as printed in bold right above the webcast, Red carpet arrivals wrapping up shortly. We hope to begin soon..

  • It is working.
Earlier it had some muzak and crowd noise as people arrived. Then the message chenged to ” We hope to begin shortly” and it went silent.

  • yay…they’re starting. no issues hear. i can see and hear the vice-chair of the academy of arts and sciences, Kevin Hamburger.

  • BrostavoFring:
So we don’t get to see special things :(

I thought that was only me. Bastards!

The sounds was playing for me, but then I refreshed the page. Now I have nothing. Damn. Could have heard the audio. God I need to see this season.

  • I guess they’re only showing the crowd in attendance the S1 and S2 recap and special look at S3.

  • Kaizer:
can you turn the volume up or the mics a bit maybe?

This. My volume is all the way up and if I forget that it is, the hell is going to be scared out of me the next time I play a video or video game.

  • So i guess they can’t show the actual footage on the stream. Hopefully this isn’t the 10 minute recap/

  • Ok it’s stopped for me, I heard the title theme then it descended into nothingness………..

  • Grijnwaald:
Ok it’s stopped for me, I heard the title theme then it descended into nothingness………..

Same. I refreshed my page, even though I was hearing some of the scenes they were playing. This kind of sucks.

  • Grijnwaald,

The online viewers don’t get to see the special video. It will be back up when they are through showing it to the crowd in attendance.

  • The mics are pretty low. I’ve got the stream volume up all the way and my computer volume up very high and it was still fairly soft.

They’ll come back on when they’re done with the footage or recap stuff. I’m curious to know if the originally posted panel lineup is the same. Isaac Hempstead-Wright and John Bradley were on the panel’s red carpet but they aren’t listed for the panel, so they just be in the audience.
edit to add: Nope, they must just be in the audience.

  • Yago:
Does anyone have an idea how long this will be? (I mean the panel, not the waiting)

Can anyone answer this? Please? :(

  • Actually it only says that on some browsers (I have it up on two computers, one doesn’t show the bold update)

  • Jen,

The guy did say it would be available on the website later. So even if there are buffering issues it should be available to watch later.

  • Ours is the Fury:

I think WiC posted yesterday (or whenever) that some scheduled to be there might not be, and others be making some unexpected appearances.

  • Sif they show the s1 and 2 recap and a season 3 video that could be 10 or 11 minutes?
    Ack pfft!!
    ETA:
Wehew! not so bad a wait…

  • Nice. They turned up the recording volume on their end.

Okay the mod already has me laughing
“I have no idea why they asked me to do this…”

  • Kaizer:
Please turn the volume up, and next time you host a livestream, how about streaming something eh? theres no reason we viewers on the web shouldnt be able to watch the clips your showing right now.

    Who are you talking to???

  • Buffering issues here :s I might go back to my warm bed and watch it online tomorrow if it stays that way :(

  • I love how George asked D&D, “who is Jon Snow’s mother?.” Great interview question!

    EDIT:
To be clear…it was the question asked to determine if GRRM should go with D&D to do the show.

  • my volume settings are max’d out and I’m leaning into my laptop to listen in my quiet living room, might have to switch to headphones….

  • Sorry about my excitement earlier, but they most definitely just confirmed who Jon Snow’s mother is. Dan (I think) said that the answer they gave to the question was a crazy one and that they got the answer correct. Clearly was a question to see if they picked up on the intricate and deep hints to his ancestry. Wow, I’m shocked he would say that.

  • i don’t look at it as confirmation of anything, and i don’t think it was asked to see if they would have the right answer. i think GRRM asked this question to D&D to see how much knowledge they had of the books and wanted to hear their genuine theories on that subject.

  • Lea,

It COULD be that. But they gave off the vibe that they had gotten the answer correct. They even hesitated to repeat the question. I’m considering it confirmation.

  • The cast of this show is so charismatic and well-spoken. Seriously, all of them. And I’m loving Mac as the host!

  • Lea,

Very much so! I think this is why people are so invested into Arya because they love Maise’s performance.

  • I feel so sorry for Joffrey… NO ONE wants to interview him or have him on any panel… He plays the part SOOO well he deserves recognition, more than the nothing he’s getting…

  • So sad I wont be able to watch this tonight as im on my mobile. I suggest someone record it and post a video tomorrow!

  • So I’m guessing Sophie has not read Storm of Swords? XD
Maybe she’s just ignoring the realities and spoilers…..

  • “there will be a few people on the throne before the end.” GRRM I wonder if meant after Joffrey or after Tommen…hmmm

  • Darquemode: at 11:48 pm | Permalink

whoa…“there will be a few people on the throne before the end.” GRRM’s words not mine! :) awesome. ;)

Spoilers :P…Plus I’m guessing she knows. She filmed the season after all.

  • Kind of offended Peter Dinklage didn’t say that the time I literally ran into him in Washington Square Park as his best fan encounter.

  • Lea,

    That was interesting to hear!

I guess he cuuld have meant ‘as the SERIES continues there will be multiple butts on the Throne’…. Or perhaps just the expected changes like the Lannister downfall followed by one ursurper and a final ruler?

Between that and the “Who is Jon’s mother?” test (if taken as many interpret it) this has been one of GRRMs more forthcoming interviews I think! XD

  • jax:
Interesting question about “Jon’s mother!”I believe they just confirmed R+L=J!

    I’ve always been against R + L = J because it just seems so…simple…so easy…Especially if R + L = J = J + D = <3 4EVA. It just seems too tidy especially since i don't want J + D AT ALL

  • Does anyone know how much longer this will be going on for roughly?

Michelle, stop breaking in and out of an American accent!

  • Not to diminish anyone’s appreciation of this interview, but the bit about David and Dan guessing Jon’s mother has been out there for quite a while, actually, maybe before the show ever aired. I know that I’ve heard the story from both Martin’s perspective and B&W, before season 2 was over at least and I think before it started.

I also take it as basically confirmation of R+L, but clearly the three of them don’t see it that way, because they keep on saying it. So, maybe not. But I don’t see what else it could mean, really.

  • Josh,

To be fair we just do not know the name D&D said to GRRM… o we?
They could have guessed Aashara Dayne or Elia Martell for all we know.

I can picture GRRM smiling at any creative answer that has even remote possibilities.

  • This is so friggin funny. I hope they post this online because I’m going to want to watch it again.

  • Peter Dinklage is absolutely hysterical, and Lena despite not reading the books made one of the best observations of Cercei I’ve heard. This cast is ridiculously likable…

  • is this gonna be up somewhere,I missed a big chunk of the first half! What I saw was great! Very hilarious!

  • Well once it started to work properly I was really happy I stuck around and watched it. I hope someone made a copy though because I would love to watch it without all the glitches. Brilliant though.

  • Poor Kit has only read up to S4, oh and I wonder who the three actors were who GRRM was speaking to that he said he killed, one of them “her” I think he said begged not to go. Must have been Robb, Ygritte, and the third I haven’t a clue.

  • OMG Dinklage is as hilarious as Tyrion lol. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see our Master Whisperer Conleth Hill in action at this panel, I bet they would have rioted :P Aside from a few cricket moments this panel was much better than the Comic Con one.

PS: Seriously no Emmy love for it’s sunny in philadelphia? What @$@# joke! Hahaha

  • I think I was crying from laughter a couple of times during that panel.

Can’t wait for it to be online so I can download it and watch it over and over for the next year.

  • This was hilarious. I love all of them. Each one of them.

Between Nikolaj saying his mother read the books and summarized them to him and Michelle’s laughing every second, I couldn’t stop smiling.

  • “You’re soooo cute”

    “I’m only one year younger”

    maisie/sophie friendship for the win.

Also, Kit’s fan mail non-story. And Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s troll answer on reading the books, just like Maisie, mum read them for me. :)

  • Brilliant, worth every second and I tried to absorb it all. I am in awe, every one is so involved with the show, their characters. HBO get on with it, you’ve got to be kidding right?

  • Man I feel really bad for Michelle, seems like she really enjoyed herself and knew this was her last time to be up there.

  • Yeah, that was awesome….way better than the comic-con panels, I’d say. Would love to see this as a feature on the s3 DVDs :)

George did a nice little dance around answer there at the end when asked about his progress on TWoW :)

And if people haven’t watched Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you really should check it out – one of the funniest shows out there.

  • That was just fantastic. I don’t Twitter or do other things while I’m trying to watch a show, I like to devote my attention, but yeah that was just a fantastic time and it really helped satiate me during these last painful days. D&D seem like great people to have in charge and the whole panel was just full of laughs and fun.

I liked learning that Conleth Hill is apparently hilarious on-set. Somehow that’s not really surprising.

And it was fun to see the answers to the questions of who each of them would prefer to see on the throne at the show’s conclusion, as well as if they could play any other character (I loved Peter’s response)

Speaking of Peter, his speech re: the fan-photo of ‘himself’ from the 70s was gold as well.

    So, yeah. Thanks to everyone.

  • Hilda,

It just might be up somewhere in… about…. Um….30 minutes or to crop and edit…figure another 30 or more for a big upload…. In an hour or so maybe. : )

  • That was one of the best panels ever! Peter Dinklage is hilarious. It was much longer than I expected it to be, which was awesome as well. Rob McElhenney was really funny, too. You also got a sense of how close Peter and Lena are, just like in their S2 commentary track.

  • Loved this all-around. I’d like to see Rob host the panel for Comic-Con, as well, actually. Not that I don’t like Martin doing it, I just think the whole thing works better if he’s a part of the panel instead of moderating it. Hopefully this will show up on the DVD for the third season, because it really was hilarious, insightful, and very fun to watch.

  • That was entertaining.

Peter, Dan, Dave, Nikolaj were hilarious. We need Peter and Nikolaj at Comic Con this year; their snarky sense of humor is so much fun. Sophie and Maisie are charming, poised young ladies. I love Michelle Fairley’s laugh.

Some advice to all future interviewers: please stop asking the cast if they have read the books. It clearly makes the non-readers uncomfortable, especially when George is there. It long ago stopped being an insightful question.

  • I literally had a friend text me mid-way and I sent her back a reply of “shh!”

That was brilliant–I love how real all of them are. Kit is so shy, bless him–and so obviously bemused over the fascination with his hair! David and Dan should star in their own sitcom, or put together dinner outings where we can hang out with them. With any of them, really–that was great fun to watch.

  • Winter:
Poor Kit has only read up to S4, oh and I wonder who the three actors were who GRRM was speaking to that he said he killed, one of them “her” I think he said begged not to go. Must have been Robb, Ygritte, and the third I haven’t a clue.

Shae or Catelyn, I can only assume.

  • Khal-A-Bunga,

    Agreed.

There is something fun about GRRM’s pointed questions and setting up things he already knows the answers for, but it feels more natural to have GRRM on the panel and not moderatin!

  • For those asking about it being uploaded, the Emmys’ website has previous “An Evening with…” videos hosted on their site, so I assume this will end up there eventually.

I’m really glad everyone seemed to like it, I love Its Always Sunny almost as much as GoT so the mash-up of Mac and Martin on stage at the same time seemed too good to be true. Can’t wait to watch it.

  • Winter,

I was thinking Shea, she’s the only woman I can think of who’s unlikely to know her fate. Though it could always be a TWOW death.

  • Winter:

    It was ROS!

  • This was waaayy much better than the Comic-Con panel with George as a moderator. I didn´t know this guy Rob but he was good. And when G. Martin said that several characters will sit on the Iron Throne i got reall excited. Maybe the Lannisters will fall from power…maybe with some help from Varys…who knows

  • After this, Peter, Lena and the other members of the Ice and Fire Brat Pack will be at
the San Diego Comedy Shop and the Improve in Los Vegas!

  • This is totally off-topic, but does anyone know how many episodes Margaery will be featured in this season? I want to see a lot more of her….

  • Chris S.:
Man I feel really bad for Michelle, seems like she really enjoyed herself and knew this was her last time to be up there.

Unless they change the plot from the books, she’ll soon return to the show as “Lady Stoneheart,” won’t she?

It was a great interview. Was surprised to see Rob moderating and he did a great job. Love Sunny in Philly.

Interesting response from George with regards to Winds of Winter. So he’s definitely feeling the pressure and laying the tracks are quickly as he can so he doesn’t get hit by the train. Quite interesting that he suggested the combined Feast and Dance could potentially be split over three seasons; they’d certainly be long enough (taken together, the books nearly twice as long as Storm of Swords).

  • ACK! Couldn’t access it at all (typical for living Down Under where so many things get blocked), so hope someone posts it quickly on YouTube .

  • Tomás:

I have theorized that Stanis will take the throne only to quickly lose it to some other character, who then loses it to Daenerys… who then loses it to the person who has it when the series ends.

It just makes sense from GRRM’s story telling style for a bunch of people to hold the throne before the end of the game. And that some of them hold it for a very short time.

  • I still can’t believe David challenged Khal Drogo lol, I know he was drunk but man if only I was there to witness it haha. There is also a lot of truth about “real strength and hollywood strength”, it’s not always about who has the biggest muscle but how they train.

  • Suzaku,

    True.
I know some people want those books edited so much that they picture one season with the 2 combined books… or maybe like 12 to 15 episodes.

Personally I think there is easily 2 full seasons, but three might be stretching it just because of the lack of “finale-esque moments” to make episodes intersting.

  • Darquemode,

Yeah I’m with this. Three would just be Filler Town, but 2…easy. Especially if they add good scenes. They wouldn’t suddenly stop inventing new scenes. They could get two solid(ish) seasons from those two books.

  • GeekFurious,

I think there’s no time left for 4 people to sit on the Iron Throne after Tommen. I’m guessing Tommy, then Griff (with the support of Dorne), then the winner/ultimate ruler: Dany or Stannis.

  • Darquemode,

Teo sounds perfect. Ending with Dany being found by a Khalasar, then the final scene of Jon being “murdered”. HUGE cliffhanger right there for non-book readers

  • Hi-Fi:

I feel that George will have a true all out war for the throne. The first five books were just a setup to the final two where everything goes to hell. So some people will take the throne and be killed a day later. It is going to be madness.

Return here in 6 years to see if I was right. :)

  • Zack,

My hope is that tWoW is long enough, detailed enough, and action-filled enough to provide two seasons like SoS did. Then I think GRRM has a chance of not falling behind the show.

  • Mac was great as the moderator. I loved that he was more interested in Kit and Nicolaj’s hair than any of the females. That’s the Mac I know from ‘It’s Always Sunny’. I thought he kept a very funny atmosphere but asked some good/tough questions too. The cast was great, and it comes as no surprise that Peter stole the show. I can’t wait to watch this again.

  • Hi-Fi,

My theory was that somehow in the end littlefinger wins.. But i do agree that a few changes even if they are from within the same family or camp would be very interesting. As in stannis followed by John

  • Hi-Fi,

I agree about fake Aegon taking the throne next and then the final ruler will be whoever survives the battle with the Others(Dany,Stannis, or Jon)

  • the Lannisters will eventually lose the iron throne. i’m sure of it, but i don’t want cute, little Tommen to die! i hope he and his cats can fake their death and live out peacefully somewhere in Essos…maybe Braavos. :(

  • Lea,

This. I’m dreading that particular change, although it’s probably inevitable. I don’t want to see either him or Margaery lose their spot. Tommen’s such a good kid, it’s a nice change of pace for the Throne, heh.

    Darquemode,

And I think there’s a strong possibility of that wish coming to pass. If they can take the first 6 books to 2018…the last one will probably not be out by then, but it should at least be far enough along for the purposes of producing one full season from it from the notes George provides.

  • I really hope that the series ends with the Iron Throne destroyed, both physically and as a symbol or seat of power.

If it ends with Ruler #17 sitting on it, it won’t really feel like an end….only a matter of time before some shit goes down and they’re replaced one way or another. I know history repeats itself, and cycles and all that, but I’d love to see the pattern broken somehow.

  • Meshing two of my favorite shows It’s Always Sunny and Game of Thrones worked real well. I laughed when Kit said he had only read through book 4. I can only assume he has to know what happens to Jon in book 5

Peter Dinklage and Rob McElhenney had great chemistry and they were both really funny.

    Didn’t know Maisie had a step-dad.

Sophie wanting to be Joffrey was pretty funny too.

All in all that was a great panel, it just needs Daenarys and Robb next time

  • Chris S.:
Man I feel really bad for Michelle, seems like she really enjoyed herself and knew this was her last time to be up there.

Wait a minute, if she only read the Catelyn chapters, then she got to the RW, but she never read the epilogue…..

  • This was great. Dinklage was on fire and very relaxed, where at Comic Con I thought he looked a bit overwhelmed or nervous or maybe just tired. They definitely need to get Varys to one of these group sessions. Lena’s description of Cersei was spot on. Sounds like Momoa can squish some hands. Ouch.

  • Watching the edited trailer n ESPN.
Nice to see it on other channels!

For those that wanted a YT link….
Here is the link for my YT upload until they upload it to their official YT page later today/ tomorrow sometime.

    http://youtu.be/5pLPN53qhYQ

It seems to be stuck at 99% processing so it may be a minute or two.

  • Wow, amazing interviews. Only problem were the silences that the interviewer created, like NCW said, ”…not at all uncomfortable…”

  • Damn sorry, it exceeded the max length for my account I guess. Never uplaoded a long video.

If they do not upload it tomorrow and someone wants it I will split the file, but I do not feel like it tonight.

  • Selmy,

Cut Mac some slack. It’s difficult to tell when someone is finished giving their answer and when to move on to another question. I thought he was great.

  • This was hilarious. Dinklage stole the show once again. The tasty bit about a few characters sitting atop he irone throne is intriguing. I tend to think Stannis will take it from the Lannisters as forseen by the lord of light only for the lands to be overtaken by the darkness(winter is coming) the white walkers. And then Danny coming back to claim the throne by fire with aide from the lord commander John Snow(Ice) of (the only group with the true interests of the realm) the nights watch. Daenerys reddeming the reign of the mad king by through her journey and growth as the one true ruler of Westeros that can again bring peace and prosperity. Then again they might all be dead in the end.

  • Just watched the whole thing and that was great. Thanks so much for posting this! Really some great info in here, about Winds of Winter and a possible confirmation of R+L=J

  • That was great! Big fun seeing the whole crew-or most of them anyway. Sophie and Maisie were top notch! Michelle’s laughter is perfection! They all were! Lena is just a dream! No Lena, they’re not going to kill Cersei …. *smiles knowingly*….

    For Winterfell!

  • Emilia Clarke was noticeably absent; she ususally appears at these sorts of events but her Broadway premiere is today, I believe, so I’m sure she had to go straight back to NYC after the GoT premiere. I’m wishing her luck!

  • It takes like ten minutes to load 5 seconds of streaming for some reason, the rest of my net is great but this is taking forever. Might have to wait for the youtube version :(

  • What a great panel, I laughed so hard :) I need to show this to all my friends interested in the show.

  • Can someone Please put this on Youtube. I am from South Asia and I can’t seem to watch this. :(

  • I don’t understand why there are still buffering issues? The live stream is over, why can’t I pause it at the beginning for a few minutes and then watch it all in one go. It seems their streaming player is one of those useless ones that only buffers a few seconds at a time and if you don’t have a 10Mbps line, or you live outside the US, you are basically screwed because there is no way you can watch it without pauses every 5 seconds. Painful.

  • Roger König,

    Anjana,

    AdrianAegon,

    Nick_Scryer,

Sorry about the deleted file I posted earlier. YT did not like the file size I guess… or maybe my account would not let me uplaod that large or long of a video….. Dunno.

I split it and it’s on SpTV here:
    http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/03/gameof-thrones-evening-with-game-of.html

I’m going to bed, but if that SpTV link does not work for you I will try again to get it on YT when I wake up in a few hours.

  • Brilliant panel! I must admit I found George’s comments about YouTube auditions at the end slightly disheartening; it’s all very well saying it’s not the way to go about getting cast, but on the one hand as actors we’re told to be proactive, and on the other we’re told not to do these things.
The advice we get is all very conflicting and personally I feel it’s better than sitting on your arse waiting for stuff to happen.
    Now I’m torn…

George brought out the rifle and started taking shots at people’s hopes and dreams there, lol.

  • WTF?? When was this posted. I’m checking the site all damn day but miss because I log out at ~5pm! ARGH!

  • Tyrion Pimpslap,

Yeah, it might have looked like I didn’t like him but as a matter of fact I did. He was charistmatic and funny, and wasn’t scared to do risky jokes. (American vs UK actors was a good one). Michelle’s laugh is oddly confortable. Peter and Lena seems like people I’d hang with in my everyday life, love their humour. My final word…. awesome panel. 9.0/10

  • Selmy,

I noticed the same the thing. He would create some awkward silences after a person answered a question by waiting a bit before he asked the next question as if he was expecting them to say more.

  • Interesting bits:

GRRM’s famous dinner with Dan and Dave happened when only 3 books were out, which seems to indicate that this was before the publication of A FEAST FOR CROWS (October 2005). This seems to track, more or less, with D&D then saying they pitched GAME OF THRONES to HBO and also Showtime in March 2006, ‘a few weeks later’. This puts the timeline for the show’s gestation a lot earlier than previously thought (we knew that HBO optioned GoT in January 2007, but not how long before that it had been in the works).

GRRM is filming a cameo for Season 4. Somehow, looking at a lot of other sites out there, people have taken this on board to mean he’ll be in Season 3, despite Benioff saying that they’re trying to get George to fly out to Dubrovnik this year for Season 4. But good to know that cameo is going to happen.

I couldn’t tell if they were being serious or not about the cameo thing.

  • Btw, Michelle Fairley knows exactly what happens to Cat:

She was interviewed by the BBC when the show first aired and she said she was looking forwards to coming back under makeup to play undead Cat.

New Interview with Gwendoline Christie. Haven’t looked at it yet, could have spoilers!

WIC: I have posted things like this in the comments for years now. Should I continue that way or is it actual better to send you guys a “private” massage over the contact link as well, so you don’t have to graze the comments?

  • Like it or not, R+L=J has been a foregone conclusion since book two. George wrote himself one too many blue winter roses on the Wall to be called anything less of a hack if he doesn’t follow through at this point. If it’s Ned and Wylla I’ll just spit, burn the books and wash my hands of the show. This isn’t a fakeout twilight zone episode and I can count about six major times where R+L is foreshadowed.

Either way is fine. I pretty much read all of the comments, so I will see it eventually. I guess if it is time-sensitive an email is better, but for stuff like interviews you can post them here, that way others can see them as well. :)

  • It was an awesome and hilarious panel.

It didn’t escape my eyes that while Maisie was explaning her best meeting with a fan that Sophie looked sad… made me remember that EW interview about how some rude people come up to her and be rude about her character. :p

Peter Dinklage had me laughing on the floor and Nikolaj’s “My mum read me the books” made me spurt my coffee.

  • That whole interview rocked. Dinkelage again just killed it as he always does. That line from GRRM about multiple people sitting on the throne tells me TWOW will most likely see a regime change. Aside from this, while some of the questions were cliche, there were also some excellent moments about casting and acting in general. This is one of the better panels I’ve seen.

  • Winter Is Coming,

I’m gonna be talking about it on my friend Ken’s Cripples, Bastards & Broken Things podcast (product placement, lame). But to me, the best thing about the Emmy Event was the pre-show video.

For ignorant reasons, I was hoping they’d show the pilot and while in line to get into the Chinese Theater… it slowly dawned on me that they weren’t going to, so I started getting depressed.

We get into the theater, an Emmy guy announces that they’re running late because Dan & Dave are “a couple of blocks away.” A few minutes later, he comes back and starts the show by showing a video which he announces “shows seasons 1 & 2 and a peek at we’ll be seeing in season 3.”

Naturally, I assume it’s just the trailers which we’ve already seen, so I don’t run my phone and capture it.

THE VIDEO began with a card which read something along the lines of “Coming this season on Game of Thrones” (so I’d guess it’s going to air after the season premiere)

So much of it was new, that I can’t remember everything, but here are the big things:
    PARAPHRASING, NOT A TRANSCRIPT:

Varys & Littlefinger in the Throne Room
Varys: This war is chaos… we’re in the pit of Chaos.
Littlefinger: Chaos isn’t a pit, it’s a ladder (rest of the speech from the promo)

Stannis, Melisandre & Davos in the Chamber of the Painted Table Dragonstone:
    Davos: There’s a better way.
Stannis: (mocking) Oh tell us of your better way.

Catelyn and some Freys in Riverrun (I assume)
Catelyn: Just tell us what Walder Frey wants.
    Frey: Not what, but whom.
NOTE: The video cuts to a shot of Talissa here in a feint for the audience.

Whitebeard & Jorah in Slaver’s Bay
Whitebeard: You believe she’s the one to lead us to victory.
    Jorah: With all my heart.

There was a lot more, in the relatively short video, including shots of Walder Frey, Balon Greyjoy and others. I’ll try to remember more.

  • Jay Sutherland,

    I took it slightly differently I think…

The way I interpretted GRRM was that no one gets hired from a YT audition ALONE. I personally would guess that the YT audition could lead to a face-to-face audition with a casting director on ocassion… maybe on rare occasion. Still, GRRM did say he passed on the worthwhile audition videos , so that is something in the end……

Who knows though, just my personal opinion and interpretaion.
    *shrug*

  • Chris S.:
Man I feel really bad for Michelle, seems like she really enjoyed herself and knew this was her last time to be up there.

Um…she isn’t dead in the books and will certainly continue to be part of the series

  • after that George’s words about several charcters on the IT, i don’t know how he can end the series with the two books. it seems that there will be the 8th book=(

  • having said that, he’ll then only have 2 years to finish A Dream of Spring, so that timetable is a bit off.

  • Laughed my ass off at times; loved the overall chemistry. One of the things that stuck was Lena Headeys insights into Cersei. Spot on, and concise to boot :)

I didn’t hear much news really, but maybe you’d want to put up a spoiler warning for Georges comments about the number of actors he’s making jobless?

While listening I thought the 3 people George mentioned, who will be dead at the end of this season, will be Robb, Catelyn and Mormont, with the ‘she’ who begged not to be killed off being Rose Leslie. I could just hear her say that! But then I read the comments here, and now I think the 3 jobless ones (mind the ‘jobless’) will be Robb, Mormont and Ygritte. Catelyn continuing with makeup…I always thought CGI? YAY! I LOVE Michelle Fairley, I’d be very happy if she’d stay with the show longer!..but that makes the ‘begger’ Shae. And it happened in the books already, so you can rule out Ros (she doesn’t happen in the books, after all) or Brienne (that is, if she dies, season 4 is probably too soon for that…).

  • Since D&D seemed to have guess Jon Snow’s mother correctly, it would mean all the clues that are needed are found within the first 3 books. Since at the time of their meeting with George, only 3 books had been written.

Also important to note, they said they gave a “Shocking name”, which would seem to eliminate the person whom George actually wrote and said was the mother in book 3. Not that too many people believed that person was really the mother anyway…but this is kind of confirmation she is not.

  • Winter,

Hardly. They asked him this at the premiere yesterday and whatever about Ygritte, Robb dies in s3 so there would be no point in begging for their fictional lives. They already know they’re dead. And besides, begging to stay around doesn’t sound like something Rose Leslie would do.

  • Romaer,

Well of course they haven’t. Their job is to play the characters D&D put on the sheet for them. If that character diverges from the books, they don’t need to the book version of themselves interfering with the TV version. It would be silly for Richard & Michelle to read SoS & start playing book C&R’s relationship when it is so clearly different to the one they have on the show.

  • Darquemode,

No really true. George said he cut several key chapters out of DwD, resulting in quite a few cliffhangers for the characters. They could either leave those in place or bring in a small bit of material from WoW to resolve them.

  • SerCountryFriedSteak,

Yes! I was surprised by the S3 video as well. Including what appeared to be Bran climbing a tree, which probably was a dream. I couldn’t tell if Jojen was in the dream or not or if it was just a cut to Jojen. The funny ending with Hodor was perfect.

  • I spoke to the Westeros.org guys and they told me that Selyse and Shireen are not appearing in the first four episodes. Well, actually, they are not even mentioned, according to them. I wonder if they are going to appear late in the season, like Tywin did in season 1, or if they have been cut from the show in the last minute. I find the last option very unlikely, but the possibility still scares the hell out of me.

  • Nezzer,

I doubt Stannis appeared in every one of the four episodes. I wouldn’t be too concerned. Tara Fitzgerald is too established as an actress to be cut out of the show, IMO. Also, in one of the trailers there was a shot of the back of a young girl’s head next to Stannis.

  • GG:

How was it Ros? She’s not in the books. GRRM has no control over her character’s fate.

It was a joke. A rather terrible one. : )

  • Tyrion Pimpslap,

    I hope you’re right!

I’m now remembering that Melisandre said last season that Selyse is sick, shut away in a tower. Maybe she’ll appear feeling much better by the season’s end, surprising (and scaring) Stannis. But Shireen not appearing by now is weird.

    Also,

    Nezzer

Did they say anything about Kovarro’s absence? Or is he there?

    Thanks!

  • !!Some very interesting overarching SoIaF info revealed here: GRRM asked the producers at their very first meeting (circa book3), who is Jon Snow’s mom & they guessed right L+R=J most likely–really the clues are all there if you read right. Also, at 103 min. when all are asked who should sit the ironthrone at the end GRRM abstains, saying he knows & “there’ll be a few people sitting on it before the end.” Hmmm…let’s be honest, King Tommen is not long for that seat. I can def see Melisandre’s long time prophecies coming true and Stannis being King briefly, maybe Dany for a time, but ultimately it is Jon’s seat–he is Rhagar’s 3rd child & his is the song of ice & fire.

  • Man I’m glad I chose to watch that whole panel video. Not that I wouldn’t of course. (I loved that Comic Con panel after s1 with Momoa doing Drogo.) This one was surprisingly humorous. NCW saying, “Well, like Maisie, my mum read the books…” had me rolling.

I don’t know if Peter is becoming more comfortable in this sort of public setting or if in the past he just wasn’t feeling it sometimes, but he is really starting to seemingly enjoy the attention and grab hold of it. It’s great to see this many of the main cast and hear them all say they just love working on it and are so worried about their character’s future that they won’t or are scared to read ahead to find out. Although, it sounded like perhaps Lena, Peter and in some part, Michelle, are the only ones on this panel that don’t have a general idea. Oh, Kit did say he’s reading book to season didn’t he. It was interesting to watch Michelle’s expressions when she stated she’s read book three. I don’t know how she’s kept herself from reading beyond that since it ends for her so confusingly. Okay, maybe I do know. Perhaps she’s angry like all of the normal readers were after they read the RW. You know, the throw the book at the wall while screaming “that’s bullshit!!” type of reaction. It was also interesting that all of them on the panel are still alive (in a fashion) in the book series so far. Yes, Cat is in her “condition” and Jon is rather unknown, but most readers assume something or other besides being dead.

I’d heard the story of Maisie’s casting before but it’s still fun to hear again. It has to make her feel pretty good to hear they were having such a hard time finding the right girl and after over 300 “eh’s” they saw her and knew she is Arya.
